Interior is pretty nice with a couple tables available for small to medium size groups. Staff is pretty friendly and orders came in on time. Food I'll be honest, I'm not exactly sure how their ramen is different from other chains - but I do like the fact that they have a lot of different seasonal menu items to try. A little while back they had their gyudon ramen and matcha ramen - which was very unique from anything I've experienced. The gyudon was literally like the rice version, but they have it with noodles. It's a little oily after a while cause the way you make it. But quite comforting and heavy for big eaters. Matcha ramen was alright - didn't feel it was anything specialy, but they use duck pieces rather than pork cha siu. It had a better balance that way and didn't felt too heavy. Pricing wise is pretty standard now with inflation. Nice place that it's close to me, but I don't see myself coming too often though. read more

There were a lot of options to choose from and I wish I had the stomach strength to down at least 3 bowls because I wanted to try several. I ended up with just the one and I enjoyed it but wished there was more garlic flavour and other items. This is probably the most expensive ramen I've ever had (I didn't order additional toppings but went with kale noodles). I also ordered the vegetarian app platter (tofu nuggets, edamame, and purple yam fries were good and simple). The bowl comes with 5 slices of duck, nori, a small naruto fish cake, 2 small slices of crunch lotus, and green onion. When I first walked in, it gave a very cozy relaxing vibe. The restaurant had quite a bit of seating available which was great. They don't accept cash or American express I got the original tori paitan without onions and the favourites flight for appetizer. The broth was thick and creamy, it was very flavorful and delicious. Delicious and wonderful dining experience tonight at Midori. Great service provided as all my drinks and cutlery, table was refilled and taken care of throughout the evening. I ordered the Black garlic ramen with extra pork charsiu and thick noodles. Order was presented to be hot, looked appetizing and tasted delicious. I was meeting with a friend who told me of this ramen place. Toronto has plentiful ramen places so it was good to try places I haven't been yet. The unique thing about this ramen place is they have speciality, unique flavors of ramen with a rotating menu every 2 weeks. I also like that they have a kale noodle based ramen. So happy that they opened up a location in Scarborough! Took my dad here and he enjoyed the ramen. I like how they serve both chicken and pork in the ramen bowls. Underneath the chairs there was a basket to put your purse or small items. The chairs have a low curved backing. Came during their soft launch. Not all dishes were available but got some of their staples, tori paitan shoyu and black garlic ramen. Both were flavourful as you would expect of most decent ramen restaurants. The chicken was extremely soft due to their method of cooking, perhaps a bit unnaturally so. The paitan broth was very rich and delicious. This is a good alternative if you want something other than pork based ramen (ie tonkotsu ramen). They have a good beverage menu and also offer some delicious choices from Godspeed brewery as well. Interestingly, this chain is owned by a pair of Japanese chefs who have brought their cuisine to Canada which adds authenticity to the flair. The wait time was a bit long and was asked to wait for a table despite the location being half full. This is understandable given it was the soft launch but hope this will improve going forward. The staff were friendly and polite. Though the food was good, the ramen didn't stand out from other similar ramen restaurants, other than having tori paitan. Though I would consider coming back for the variety, I think there are many other places which offer comparable ramen at similar or better prices. read more

Midori Ramen's signature tori paitan ramen ($17.49) seemingly was developed for me... the broth wasn't overly salty, yet it was still creamy and hearty enough to satisfy. It didn't leave me with an overwhelming need to drink tons of water after the meal and given was less oily, my stomach didn't have an adverse reaction either. I can see how some diners find their broth bland as it's not as powerful as some competitors, but I found it was flavourful enough without being too much. If you're in the mood for a punch of flavour, their spicy ramen ($15.49) could work. I liked that they offer a scale of spiciness as we found the "mild" already had a sufficient kick. The noodles were cooked perfectly, the thick version springy enough with bite. I just wasn't overly fond of the ingredients included in the signature ramen: the red onions were too raw and needed ample time in the broth before the stingy acid subsided; the finely shredded aosa sea lettuce was lost in the soup not adding any flavour or texture; and the fried bogo (burdock root) was too hard and made me feel like I was eating hay. Moo.... I would have liked the two pieces of cha shu (pork and chicken) to be hotter. At Midori, they don't seem to blowtorch the meat before it's presented so they are also pale and pasty. Their onsen egg was just bordering on becoming overcooked, the edges solidifying against the molten texture, yet still ice cold in the centre, despite sitting in the broth. If anything, the chicken karaage ($6.99) was probably the best part of the meal and I would have happily had it with a bowl of plain ramen with scallions. Left in three palm-sized pieces, the larger cuts meant the chicken was juicy. The breading also included an ideal amount of spices for flavour. Maybe my experience will encourage ramen restaurants to offer a "build your own bowl" menu item. Because as much as I enjoyed Midori's noodles and broth, the ingredients included in a bowl of ramen is still an integral part of the meal. And unfortunately, these all fell flat. read more

Overall I would say this is a solid option for ramen. We opted for the classic & spicy ramen and enjoyed them both. The broth is quite rich so it can feel a bit heavy and hard to finish but it is very tasty. The noodles were well cooked - nice and chewy, not overcooked. 3.5 stars Chicken broth ramen! As not many places offer chicken broth or even specialise in it, we were quite excited to try. They also have another location in downtown Toronto. They were not too busy on a weeknight around 6:30pm and we got a table for four easily. There was a constant steam of patrons in and out the entire time though. I ordered the original ramen with thick noodles, no scallions, and added corn for an extra charge. A friend did recommend their spicy version. We also shared a side of chicken karaage (note it is only 3pcs). The staff were very friendly and recommended the thin noodles. I got thick haha. The noodles came pretty quickly. Visually it was a bit difficult to see the difference between the thin and thick but I enjoyed my thick noodles. They were definitely a lot thinner than most places they offer a thick noodle alternative. The soup base was surprisingly quite creamy but not super rich or heavy. I did feel a slight need to drink more water after the meal though! The pork slice in the ramen was quite average but the chicken slice was so good. Super tender and soft! The chicken karaage was fried nicely and was juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside. It was served with a small plop of mayo. Came here during the soft opening and had a decent experience. We had reservations and were seated on time. The restaurant is nice with modern organic decor. Service was good. We were checked up on quite frequently and our water was always topped up. Since it was their soft opening, they didn't have their liquor license yet and we couldn't order any alcohol. They also didn't have the spicy tan tan ramen, which we wanted to try. We ended up getting the duck shoyu and the red spicy ramen. Both very quite good. If you're anything like me, I always taste the broth first. Both broths were very tasty. The duck shoyu was very flavourful and you could really taste the duck. We got mild spice for the spicy ramen, but if you like spicy I would say to do the full spice level - it wasn't really spicy imo. We got the thick noodles and it was exactly how we liked it. Adding the egg was also a must. Portion wise, I would say it's average. I was content but not super full. Definitely had room for dessert. Chicken-based ramen! Midori Ramen opened a new location in Scarborough; don't hold high expectations. We were the first table as they opened for Saturday lunch service. Unfortunately, we weren't impressed with the food - maybe we ordered the wrong items or we're not fans of creamy chicken broths. Something that immediately took us aback was when the waiter mentioned they didn't have hot water readily available, and could only provide a glass of warm water at the time. It's definitely shocking for a restaurant not to have hot water readily available (though, where did the warm water come from if the restaurant didn't have hot water?). All ramen orders get the choice between thin/thick noodles. Our waiter suggested the thin noodles (chef's choice), but mentioned if you wanted to slurp the soup alongside noodle strands, thick was the better option. Taking that into consideration, we ordered the Black Garlic and Duck Shoyu with thin noodles, Red Spicy with thick noodles. Overall, there was a surprisingly bland broth across the 3 dishes. The Duck Shoyu was the worst of three, with a large amount of oil coating the broth and tough duck with unrendered fat. My girlfriend could only finish the Duck Shoyu by masking the flavour with the Red Spicy broth (which disappointingly, wasn't really spicy). The Red Spicy came with both pork chashu and chicken breast - however, the latter was a bit too dry for my preference. The saving grace? Both thin and thick noodles, respectively, had a great firmness to them. However, the semi-bland broth ruined the experience for us. I'm not sure if we'll be going back anytime soon, but if we do, you'll see us there maybe a year down the road. read more

The broth is creamy and rich, will warm you up if you are feeling cold. The pork chashu was tender, a little chewy at first bite but still flavorful. The chicken chashu was very tender and juicy, not as flavorful as the pork but still very good. The rest of the ingredients contributed to the ramen in harmony with one another, nothing was too powerful, nothing was overkill it was very well balanced. They weren't able to make a 4 person table for whatever reason so we were asked to put our names down on a digital waitlist. They said they would text us when ready. We didn't have to wait too long. The restaurant itself is very clean and comfortable. The seats are pretty clever as they have compartments for your bags or jackets. I liked my duck ramen a lot! I got mine with thick noodles upon recommendation from my friends who have been to Midori before. The thick noodles aren't excessively thick, still much smaller than an udon noodle. After a lot of hype involving long waits during opening, I was excited to finally try this place out. Midori specializes in a healthier alternative to other ramen places, but unfortunately I found the taste lacking as well. Firstly, I don't often eat chicken based ramen broths normally, and I prefer my broths rich and not milky, so maybe this was just an issue of my palette not matching a restaurant. Nevertheless, I ordered the signature ramen in hopes of getting an idea for what this place specializes in and left feeling underwhelmed. Gave Midori a try after learning about them through the Insta and drooling over what they got. Don't know about their other locations but the Scarborough one at Midland/McNicoll is a bit on the small side capacity-wise--perhaps fitting at most 25-ish diners. They all though have custom made chairs with a large purse basket, but I am not the only one who find the chairs to be very big, heavy and bulky, borderline comfortable, hard to move around and with low backs. You can for whatever ramen you pick have it with thin, thick (always thick for me), or for a bit extra go for kale noodles. The kale noodles however I didn't find to be any more different flavour-wise, but hey it's green. And chewy, and medium thick. I find their broths creamy and not so salty, and they even have chicken based broth. While I wasn't too fond of their tan tan ramen as it seemed more broth than ground pork and light on the spicy side, the killer so far has got to be their truffle ramen.
