The bartender was on point all night (Kels) quick, attentive, and somehow still made it feel personal even when things got busy. You can tell they actually care about their craft, not just pouring drinks but creating an experience. Every recommendation hit. Drinks were balanced, creative, and consistent--no shortcuts, no guesswork. On top of that, the energy they brought completely changed the vibe of the place. Friendly without being overbearing, professional without being stiff... just the right mix. It's rare to come across someone who can run a bar and make everyone feel like a regular at the same time. It was THAT bad. The tables around us were just as equally neglected, so I do at least know that the waitress/bartender wasn't leaving us unattended anymore than anybody else. We started off with drinks which we ordered at the bar after entering. We paid for them and sat at at a table near the bar. After 15 minutes or so, I mouthed to the young female waitress/bartender that we'd like a menu. She sat it on the bar, and I also had to go back up to the bar to order our food. The bar wasn't packed, it wasn't even 1/4 full. There were FOUR customers sitting at the bar, and four tables with people in the bar watching the game....and a waitress/bartender sitting on a stool at the corner end of the bar not doing a datburn thing! I ordered (being hungry, and a KY fan) some wings, which were delicious, and for my husband, the onion rings and a homewrecker (1/4 lb hot dog with chili cheese and onions). The onion rings were good, but the chili on the dog tasted like the meat was spoiled, old, burnt and was not edible. When my husband let the lazy girl know, she said, "Sorry 'bout that." That's that. Not so much as an offer to get him a hot dog without chili. The icing on the cake was that I looked around at the few other tables in the bar. Glasses were all empty and dirty plates were on the tables, and they just stayed there. The waitress/bartender also just stayed put behind the bar, on her corner stool, watching, doing nothing. As she watched me, I picked up a clean ashtray from a table next to me and placed it on my table. I put the dirty ashtray from my table on the bar, and our empty glasses, and waited to order another drink. O'Neal's has been a nice stop in the past when my husband and I were on the motorcycle and wanted to sit on their patio and have a snack, or even listen to music occasionally. That was years ago, and it's really gone downhill. It most definitely doesn't feel like it's on the South side of Clarksville.
