Delicious! We stopped here on a road trip with our 4 kids (aged 7-15). They have a kids menu, complete with crayons and activities. They got the spaghetti (fat corkscrew noodles instead of skinny, he gave it 2 thumbs up!) and pizza (it was huge! 12 inch, thin crust). Several decent options for our vegetarian 15 year old (she got the alfredo pasta and was delighted). Hubs got the spicy Thai sandwich (he says "meh. Okay.") It was large and juicy and a bit tricky to eat. 13 year old and I shared the French dip. The meat had a lovely, smoky flavor and we both really enjoyed it. Staff were friendly and attentive. The service here is superb and no matter what dish you order you will not be disappointed! Love that you get a "real" salad here. No iceberg lettuce salads here! We visit Baker City occasionally & had never eaten here. A great place, in an old building. My husband & I shared the Hawaiian Burger. And it was a good thing we did: it was HUGE! And just wonderful. The wife & I went here for dinner while on a trip. I ordered a regular Cheese Burger & a side, the Wife ordered the Alfredo Pasta. The burger, 1/2 lb. Of Beef, done your way, & your choice of Cheese, with a side of French Fries. The burger was as ordered, & well worth ordering. The Fries? Great! Hot, & wonderfully Crisp on the outside & just right on the inside. However, the burger is served Sans Condiments. So, if you like Ketchup, Mayo, Etc. On you have to ask for them. The Wifes Pasta dish, although I did not sample it was according to her, "Very Good", & filling. I trust her taste in food implicitly so I also re commend that dish. The Service is Good, & as far as the Ambiance is concerned, well it's a Bar & Grill. A little Loud, but that didn't bother the Full House of Patrons at all. Would I recommend this eatery? My family and I stopped in Baker City on our family road trip to the PNW and had supper at AJs. This small and delicious bar and restaurant was charming, friendly, and delicious. Our server was friendly and we chatted about the recent Oregon heat wave. She checked on us just the right amount of times. We ordered a couple of burgers, a 1/2 Caesar salad and Mac and cheese. My husband's signature burger is was a double patty with bacon and bbq sauce was delicious, well-seasoned and perfectly cooked. The beef they use at AJs is from a a local grass fed beef producer, and you can tell the difference. My eldest kid's mushroom Swiss burger was equally good with a generous true 1/2 pound burger patty. My youngest ordered a Caesar salad as that's the new dish she recently discovered and wants to eat it now every time we go out. The dressing was perfectly proportional to there salad and the lettuce was fresh and crisp. For me there were too many homemade croutons that were slightly over-toasted, but my daughter liked it. My max and cheese was decadent and super cheesy. I wish it would have come out a bit hotter in temperature, but it also wasn't too cold. As you can tell, we all liked the food and shared portions with each other to try. We also needed to share to make sure it was all eaten up as we didn't want leftovers as road trippers! The ambiance in the restaurant is casual, relaxed, but also charming as it has all the original exposed brick of the building. After supper we strolled down Main Street and enjoyed all the bronze art statues. Overall, AJs is a solid place if you want a hearty meal after a day of driving or hiking. We loved it! read more

Cute place with outside seating! First... we tried a place down the street that weren't that friendly...opted for here and were pleasantly surprised how friendly everyone was. Next, PLENTY of choices on this menu! On top of that, when you order a pasta dish they make the pasta fresh so it's nice and tender & why we tried the Mac & Cheese as an appetizer. It was creamy delicious...not oven baked so it wasn't dried out. Home made pizza dough, freshly made breads & partnered with local beef supplier so some pretty good options. So we started with the Garlic Parmesan bites....perfectly described as "fried dough of goodness"...yes, we drug these through the remaining cheese sauce from the Mac & Cheese (my people-sooo good!) Then our table had the Pesto Hawaiian Pizza, The Italian Sandwich on delicious focaccia bread, Salmon with Side salad that had a good selection of fresh mushrooms, olives, cucumbers, tomatoes & an iceberg mix. All was pretty tasty, service was good despite being very busy. Had to ask for a few basics & salmon a bit over done but honestly we were so full from the other goodies and his sized portions it didn't matter. We stopped in last night to see the live music Ben Wright and the PDX Hustle and that music and the setting was outstanding. When we arrived there wasn't a seat to be had but almost right away a table opened up. Our ordered were taken and the food came out reasonably quickly. My wife had the French dip and I ordered a pizza and the pizza was probably the best pizza I've had in town in the last few years. My wife was very happy with her French dip! Oh my goodness. We are on a road trip from Mississippi to California and we stopped here for dinner. The food was amazing and with good prices too. The service was great- our server's name was Jolenne. She needs a raise, keys to the building, make her mayor.. she was so sweet. She asked about our travels and we told her that it was our honeymoon. when it came to paying the bill, she gave us our card back and said "dinner is on me, congratulations." And walked away without anything else. I am genuinely in shock at our experience. But back to the food- I got the French dip and my husband got the chicken basket and the apple cider ale? Had girls' night here last night. We both ordered the AJs Signature Burger, not realizing it had two burger patties. As you can see from the picture it is a massive burger! I am almost embarrassed to admit I ate nearly all of it. The bartender, whose name I did not catch, was also able to suggest some great cocktails incorporating the locally distilled Glacier 45 vodka. I had a huckleberry vodka lemon drop (actually I had two because it was delicious) and my friend had a Moscow mule with cucumber vodka. Prices are on par with the quality and it definitely seems like a popular place as the place was full when we got there (almost 7 pm on a Sunday). Tonight the service was horrible. We have spent lots of money at this restaurant. We have eaten here a lot. My son ordered pasta with a rare steak. The first one came out well, next one looked like the same as the one before and then finally 3rd one was correct after him waiting an extra 45 min to get it. Asked if they could take a little off the bill and was told that we didn't know the difference between rare and blue rare. Then when I asked again about some type of compensation she said the meal was eaten wasn't it? Very unprofessional. Don't think we will be back! read more

Sigh. We came here because The Lone Pine had a wait and I had hungry teenage girls. It should have been fine. It looked like a typical pizza/burger bar and could have suited us just fine as we passed through. We were seated right away. Order taken right away. Drinks were often refilled. All good. Then we waited. And waited. And waited. I was about to say something, but then the food arrived: two small pepperoni pizzas and a shared AJ's chicken sandwich with tots. Sandwich was fine. Pizza was totally burnt. The underside was black. The girls were hungry so they tried to power through. Still deciding how to handle the situation, I opened the catsup bottle on the table for the tater tots and it exploded; all over my plate, all over my arm, my purse, my phone. We left. They did apologize and gave me half off for the burnt pizza. I probably should have insisted a complete write off, but the delayed service made us delayed on our trip. Go to The Lone Pine.
