When we first stopped in Baker City, I had my eye on Sweet Wife Baking but it wasn't meant to be then. On our way back from our trip, I made it a point to swing by on our way out. The cafe was charming and was bustling! I ordered an iced vanilla latte and cortado at the counter and picked up a few pastries to go: blueberry scone, bacon and egg brioche bun, and a maple bun. Our coffees were great! My vanilla latte wasn't too sweet and I liked the taste of the espresso beans they used. As for the pastries, my favorite was the scone while my husband liked the brioche bun. Our least favorite was the maple bun since it was a little too dense for us. We'll definitely be back! read more

Wow! When through a small town you never know what you're going to get and you it can even be tough to trust the ratings. We grabbed breakfast driving from Boise to seattle. Not to sound dramatic but the chorizo breakfast hash was one of the best breakfasts I've ever eaten! My husband had 3 breakfast burritos this road trip and he said this one was by far the best. The place is super cute and the people working were friendly! The wait time for a to go order was not short but I would not count it against them, just prepare for it to take a few minutes. The cardamom twist was lovely with enough freshly ground cardamom to make it perfect and the raspberry cream cheese bun was PERFECTLY balanced! It retained the freshness of the raspberries and the cream cheese was not over sweetened, paired with a lovely brioche it was the perfect light end to our sweet stop! There was no dryness in any of our treats ~ just a nice moist bread perfectly balanced with all the wonderful flavors!! Every time we come through Baker city we make a point of stopping at this amazing little restaurant. It's on the very cute main street of Baker's city. The food is homemade and delicious! There are cookies and pastries, and they even make their own bread. I keep hoping to arrive on a day that they have extra loaves, but we keep missing it. That said, the Cheesemaggedon was tasty, but didn't wow me. It was well complemented by their tangy tomato soup. The salted chocolate chip cookie was wonderful. The edges that are usually a little crunchy we're not. It had just the right amount of frosting. The scone was a little crunchy on the outside, but moist and good on the inside. My husband and I split a mufaletta sandwich (on homemade bread) and a bowl of chowder. They did a kitchen split for us. From the adorable entrance to the mouth watering food and baked goods to the super clean a cute bathrooms in the back this place is a must!! We had a raspberry cream roll while waiting for our food (couldn't control ourselves). My BLTA salad was fresh with homemade balsamic. Hubby had a perfectly cooked waffle, and our daughter had spinach artichoke grilled cheese with the best tomato soup I've ever tasted! We are already planning our stop on our way back home lol.
