We used AJ's Tree Services in the past and we recently hired them again. First time, we thought the service price was fair. This time, Chase came to give us a quote. When I learned the quote, he told me that they can't bring their truck/crane to the driveway (you can park 4 cars next to each other in this driveway/that's how wide it is), because it is "too narrow." He justified the price saying tree is "too high." The tree is three story high. Eventually we agreed and hired them. They were able to put their truck/crane and bins easily without absolutely no problem as he had told us. They finished the work less than 1.5 hours. Also, I am not happy that they did not cut the branches where we were told they would. They only trimmed some branches. The branches will grow next year to the same position, no doubt about it. The bill was $2000. I feel that it was a complete rip off. read more

We bought a house, in the winter, and when spring came it was pretty apparent that some of the trees on our property had suffered bore beetle damage. The trees were VERY large and near power lines and a main road. My husband researched this company and 2 others for quotes. AJ's sent an arborist who helped us triage the needs of our yard, and helped us determine trees that we could possibly save. They also gave us advice on where to start when re-planting. The other 2 companies sent, guys who do quotes. AJ's price was great and we decided to go with them. The day they came, the crew rolled in with 3-4 huge trucks full of people & equipment, they made quick work of the trees & a stump, cleaned up and were gone, painless. We had a tree in a precarious location between 3 houses. We got several quotes and most said it would have to be done by a climber and it would be an all day job. AJs had the equipment that could reach over the fence and shed and they did the job in an hour and a half. They had a crane and actually cut the whole tree from the base and craned the whole darn tree over everything and cut it up in the street. It was amazing. very professional and friendly. Would highly recommend. Not cheap but because of the equipment they had it was far less than the ones that would have had to do it manually. read more

When we moved into our house in 2004, there was some type of ash tree that was so huge it overshadowed the whole yard. Some friends chopped it down, leaving an ugly stump in the middle of our front yard. Then last summer a box elder tree at the edge of our property, collapsed, missing the house by a few inches! I had seen a billboard advertising AJ's Tree Service so I called them to remove the fallen tree and the old stump. An estimator came by when he said he would, advised us to also have a second box elder that was about to fall taken down, & gave us a price to remove all three, which I won't say was exactly cheap, but I wanted to go ahead & have the work done by a company that seemed professional. AJ's came by as scheduled, with four trucks, six men, a portable wood chipper, a cherry picker, & other kinds of equipment I can't identify. They got right on it & did the whole entire job in only 50 minutes! Unfortunately I don't have a good photo of how the yard looked when they were done. 10 stars for an impressive operation! Just used them yesterday! I can't say enough nice things about AJ's Tree Service. I bought my home in Tonawanda knowing it had a lot of old, large trees. One of them was a box elder that was leaning at an angle over the garage. Another tree had power lines down the middle. Both had grown into neighbor fences. In 2022, I collected 7 quotes. Chase from AJ's Tree Service was the only one who spoke to my neighbors. That told me he really thought about the job - everything that could happen, who would be affected. Then the earthquake happened in February 2023 and my husband noticed the box elder had moved and we could see uprooting. It had to go, as soon as possible. They bumped up our job by 2 days because the tree was about to crush my garage - shout out to Jeremy who had to listen to my anxiety. AJ's crew came with 5 guys and all kinds of vehicles. The plan was to go through a neighbor's backyard, but, big shout out to Steve who somehow squeezed the crane around the tight corner of our garage into our backyard. All the guys had headsets and ear protection. The ground was squishy from rain so they put down mats, which really saved my lawn. Everyone was focused on the work, and safety conscious of their surroundings (we had forgotten to take down the fire pit in the middle of the yard). Watching them work was absolutely fascinating! Branches came down continuously and were dragged or carted to the wood chipper. Larger branches swung down on ropes controlled by the ground crew. Big pieces were lifted into their giant hauler. The stump grinder got very close to the neighbor's fence with no damage. Clean up was speedy. It was a miserable, drizzly day in April 2023 and these guys seemed to enjoy the work - without coffee?! Just non-stop working for almost 4 hours by a great group of guys. I was very impressed by everyone and everything they did. I highly recommend them and will be using them again. read more

We had an issue with (absentee landlord) neighbor's partially fallen tree. It was being held up by another tree close to my fence line (tree is over 3 stories high-potentially very dangerous) I called very honestly to say although we wouldn't be getting the tree removed, we would happily pay a "consultant fee" to let us know if it was imminently dangerous for us. The lady (very nice) who answered the phone said it was understandable, she'd call her husband (the owner). Someone (the owner's son) called (very nice) said it was a reasonable to be concerned & meet me after I got out of work (4:15pm). Five minutes later another man called & said they would not be coming. It was the end of the day & not worth their time unless I wanted to pay for emergency removal. I explained I can't it's not my property (I could get sued) but would pay for them to come out & let me know if we were safe. He said straight up said no, if it falls my insurance will pay. I told him thanks, hope it doesn't fall on one of my loved ones. That's pretty crappy since many people die or are severely injured from this kind of situation. I hope the son inherits the business; he seems like a decent human being. read more

One of the most professional crews i have ever seen. I had high Cottonwood type trees on one side of my house where there was not enough room to get in with a high lift tractor . But their high lift is so huge that they were able to park completely on the other side of my house and move the bucket over the top of my two-story house to top these trees off . These were not small trees and maybe 60 ft high or more . All of them close to the house . They were able to top them off and then cut them further working from the ground with no damage to anything on the property . The cleanup was massive with all of the cut trees and vines and they did a magnificent job here .It was great to watch them work with the incredible machines that they have I feel that the cost was fair at $4,730.63 . ( I had to laugh a little when he read the price with the .63 cents at the end because that number has a certain significance in my life and keeps turning up and it seems to be always when something good is happening LOL .) I also would like to mention that they arrived when expected and they were very polite and friendly people to deal with . I intend to recommend them to everyone that I know that needs tree work ! Had Jeremy come to my house for an estimate. My backyard needed a good pruning and tree cutting. Agreed on a price which is very reasonable. As I looked around I wanted more done.Told crew chief Chase. His crew was very methodical and professional, their equipment excellent. My yard is everything I wanted and more. I have a large lot in Amherst and have used AJ's a number of times to remove standing and fallen trees. The last time I used AJ's was to remove trees that fell in the December blizzard. I dealt with Jeremy then and every other time. Service was always prompt and satisfactory. When I called recently for a quote for removal of several trees that I'm concerned will fall in the next storm, I was told that Jeremy is no longer with the company. It's been over two weeks since I called and I still do not have a quote or any idea when I will get one. In the past, when I dealt with Jeremy, I had a reasonable quote within a day or two of my call. I don't know what may have happened at AJ's but, sad to say, it is not a change for the better. read more

Wow we called Jeremy and he was over within the hour to provide an honest quote. You could tell all he wanted to do was help. So Professional so honest. His team was over that evening to begin setup and the tree removal started at 7am the next day and completely done and cleaned up by 2:00. These trees were no joke. At least 100 year old willows. I met with Jeremy from AJ's when I noticed leaves dying and burls appearing on my linden tree. He assured me that a trim and periodic fertilization would correct the problem. I agreed to his plan paying $775 initially with $175 for quarterly fertilization. Over the next few weeks, additional leaves died and multiple burls appeared on the tree trunk. AJ did send a tech within 2 weeks of initial service, who determined that the tree could not be saved. After calling AJ's 3 times, for a tree removal, with no response, I contacted several other arborists. I learned though those contacts and research online, that the presence of burls clearly indicated that the tree was infected beyond repair. This is something a tree professional should have immediately noticed. I feel as though AJ purposely scammed me and clearly demonstrated no professionalism at any point. I would beware of accepting their opinion. read more

A picture is worth a thousand words. Wish I could post a picture with this review...We had Jeremy from A.J's come to our house and we discussed having our curly willow trimmed so that it wasn't hanging over the house anymore. We also wanted the top trimmed. We agreed on a time of service: they would arrive sometime between 2 - 4pm. We made it clear that we wanted to be home when it was done so we could monitor how much they cut. I made arrangements to have a relative be there at 1:30pm and I left work early and was home by 2pm. However, AJ's had decided to show up at 10:30am without prior notice, and completely butchered our tree! They basically cut the entire right side of the tree off and chopped the top off. They didn't touch the left side of the tree at all and decimated the right side. To make it worse, they left dead branches hanging in the tree, as well as on my neighbors shrubs. They also left wood chips on my other neighbors property, and killed my dogwood bush with the exhaust from their chipper mulcher. The whole thing was a disaster. Jeremy came out after we complained and offered to have them come out again to try to fix it, but you can't put the limbs back on, so we declined. He also said they would "obviously not charge us for this", so I agreed and was going to just chalk it up as a bad experience. But now Jeremy calls my husband back (not me) and asks for payment for this debacle. My husband agreed to pay half of what they quoted us, but basically we have to pay $200.00 for the mess they left of our beautiful tree. Learn from our mistake. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY FOR TREE TRIMMING. THEY ARE LUMBERJACKS, NOT ARBORISTS. They leave a mess, and you pay dearly for it. read more
