I have been a very loyal customer and have supported this store for many many years. Over the past thirty years, I have spent thousands of dollars with Akin's. Two recent "incidents" changed my mind and my 30 years of loyalty. 1. Fontana Shopping Center management recently hired a new security guard service, PHD Security, phdsecurityservices.com. I was visiting this store one afternoon. I had made my purchases at Akin's and then walked out to my car. I was surprised to see a PHD Security officer parked behind my car. He asked me if it was my car to which I replied that it was. He then threatened me repeatedly with putting a parking "boot" on my car. I mentioned that I am a regular Akin's customer and park in the designated Fontana Shopping Center parking center when I visit the store. That didn't make a hill of different to the rent-a-cop who continued with his threats. This past friday I noticed this so-called PHD "Security" service patrolling the Fontana Parking Lot again so I turned my little self around and went home. I don't need the hassle of a rent-a-cop threatening to steal CUSTOMER'S cars/SUVs/trucks for fun and profit. There are too many other shopping centers in Tulsa that roll out the red carpet for their customers and their customer's money. 2. Day before yesterday I purchased a Pumpkin Spice Smoothie which had a posted price of $5.99. I have the Akin's cash register receipts to show that they had previously honored this price for their customers. Two days ago, however, the store manager said the correct price was $7.99 because it was "Smoothie of the Month". I raised my concerns concerning the pricing discrepancy, however she would not be moved and continued with the $7.99 so I ultimately paid the $7.99 and left the store. Today, I wanted to purchase a Pumpkin Spice Smoothie because I like the flavor. When I went to the smoothie bar, I saw that management had posted a price for another smoothie on the board but had not posted any pricing for the Pumpkin Spice Smoothie. So I then took the menu board to show Debbie, the store manager the pricing problem. She agreed that I had previously been overcharged and said they would NOW honor the $5.99 price if I ordered it again. She did not offer to refund the $2.00 from the previous overcharged smoothie. Debbie then began to raise her voice and became angry with me and said, "I told you THREE TIMES I would fix this just for you". She grew angrier and more hostile with me by the second. All she had to do was reach into her cash register and give me two dollars and I would have been a happy camper. Instead all I got was an increasingly hostile attitude. Enough is enough, if this is how Akin's Natural Foods store managers choose to treat their 30++ year LOYAL customers, I will take my money and shop elsewhere. read more

My mom has been coming here for years so I was introduced to natural pathetic remedies at a young age. AKiN'S has literally everything you need along with things you didn't know you needed! From vitamins, remedies, snacks and essential oils! The staff is so friendly and knowledgable! The store is always clean and there's always an abundance of samples to try! They also have a nice juice bar in the back with some seating! So you can connect to WiFi and enjoy your juice/lunch! This AKiN'S is a nice gem and continues to get better as it's been our staple go-to place for all our natural care needs! read more

In the Fontana shopping Center horrible customer service. So what I have going on right now is several things and I was planning on going in and taking about $200 and spending it towards my health. I have several things going on with my digestive help my hormonal imbalance, overall Women's Health but I really wanted to get some information about several things and not only was I not greeted when I came in the door I was looked at several times and totally ignored. I'm not one to raise a big stink about things but in Aiken's defense they need to work on their customer service they missed out on a good customer today and it was all because they didn't take the time to even acknowledge me or even offer to help. If it's that they were busy then they need more people on the floor. If it's that she didn't like the way that I look well that's not my business but if it's that there was some other judgment I don't know what to say about that other than now I'm in search of another health food store. Super friendly people work here. It's pricey as all get out but and they don't have some of the products that most work-out magazines advertise but they do carry a boatload full of stuff here. They also have small workshops, a magazine (free) and informational flyers. I could spend a good hour just looking around and researching in their, uh, well, research aisle complete with an encyclopedia of herbs/supplements to cure whatever you might have. The produce section is small but nice and their grocery section has just about everything good for you that you can imagine, including powdered peanut butter. Word of advice: research a product prior to going in the store. Sometimes it's cheaper online but often I've found that the same product at Akin's is a lower price. read more

This is one of my favorite places. Been a little sick so while in the area thought I would stop in a see if they have what I need. And of course they always do. The staff here is very knowledgeable and they're awesome people there always willing to help with anything. They have a wide variety of products for everything you need and plus some. This is one of the most uptight places I ever had to work in. I got the job and was going ho to start, once the saw a tiny piece of a covered tattoo they automatically regretted hiring me. Gave me a hard time since then not letting me move up and fired me after the probationary period for no reason other than to avoid a discrimination suit. I stopped by here one day while I was at work to get a drink they normally have at all organic markets. I always pass by this place but was never too sure what it really was, so I decided to finally go in. The lady at a salon I know says she goes here all the time and they have a large selection of vitamins and things you would normally buy anywhere else. I am always up for a going to an organic store! When I walked in I was shocked to see that they also sell more than just vitamins. The sign is kind of confusing because it comes off like they do not sell groceries, so that may be also another reason why I may not have stopped in earlier. Walking in there was like a strong smell of something citrusy, I am not sure how I felt about it but it caught me off guard. Walking around I saw that they as well had signs and a place where you can get food. Apparently they have cooking classes here as well you can attend which is cool. The store overall was unique. They had a lot of common things you would find anywhere else and I guess had its own personal spin. Not my favorite spot in the world, but since it is close to work I would stop y here more often to get those chia drinks I like. If you are wanting to see something new it wouldn't be a bad place to go to, I just don't think this would be somewhere I like to go to regularly. read more

Akin's is not bad, although I struggled to choose between a 3 star and 4 star rating primarily because of price. I am used to shopping at several other similar stores (in Missouri around KC and in Joplin & Springfield) where prices are way lower. If it was just Joplin/Springfield with lower prices, I'd attribute it to Tulsa being a larger city - but KC metro has lower prices, so that theory is not so great. Anyway, it's a good yet small store with a decent selection. I found a lot of brands and products that I would have expected Akin's to have, were not in stock, but they had some pleasantly surprising finds of less common products so it was a mixed bag for us. On our visit there was a very friendly and helpful older lady who seemed to be working alone but wasn't at all overwhelmed. It was Valentine's weekend and they had a lot of free samples of organic chocolate which made our stop even more fun. If this was my only choice and/or I lived and worked nearby I would come here often I'm sure. For me it's probably not worth another stop since I visit Tulsa just occasionally. read more

Wow... the Akin's I grew up knowing is gone. The manager, Tim, at the 51st Street store has proven to me to be a person who couldn't care less about problems I encounter as a customer there. Yesterday, I asked him questions concerning a certain refrigerated probiotic that I use which had not been stocked in his store for a while. It is now back. My question was why there are now a total of 13 bottles of the product, and ALL 13 BOTTLES HAVE AN EXPIRATION DATE THAT IS 1 MONTH AWAY. Those 13 bottles could not have been in Tim's store longer than 4 or 5 weeks. ( Last month, I bought this product at a small health food store in Broken Arrow, and the expiration date on that bottle is Aug 2017.) Mind you, not one time did Tim thank me for bringing to his attention that a large quantity of newly stocked merchandise was almost beyond the expiration date. As a matter of fact, he got very arrogant and condescending in defending the fact that he recently stocked his shelf with a refrigerated product so near expiration.
