a plate of sushi on a table
    Jeff P.

AYCE sushi. I used to love these places but have realized there is much better sushi out there. I also find I over eat at these places and feel lazy and tired afterwards. This was pretty much my first AYCE sushi I went to and have been to this establishment multiple times. Of all the AYCE sushi places I've been to I do find this place to be my favorite and my family feels the same. The restaurant is run by Chinese and most of the waitresses are also Chinese. Dealsies if you can speak Cantonese with them! The service here is good for the most part but I think they need a new organizational system as almost immediately after I order, another waitress is at my table asking me for my order. Another thing that prevents me from giving this place a higher rating is that they sometimes forget my order or part of my order and after a large order, the staff seems to slow down with the attention they give you. This is generally not an issue with 2-3 people but becomes especially annoying when you come with a larger group. Location: Bradford........ Akita is close to the Wal-Mart. Not a bad location I guess. The food: They are quick. The rice is always cooked well and the amount to fish you get is usually a fair amount. I say usually because again, after a large order, if you order another piece of say, teriyaki salmon, I've found my next piece is generally a bit thinner. Fish is fresh. As far as tuna goes, they only have white tuna. Their soba is filled with noodles (too much) and it tastes like the same broth for every type of bowl you get. Yummy though. As for me, I usually get the cold rolls or sushi: California, B.C., avocado, salmon and then salmon sushi or sashimi if I'm there for dinner. And then spicy seafood soba. I've eaten other stuff that family or friends usually get and the taste is delicious with almost anything I've eaten there except the tempura. Something about it I just don't like. 4 flavours of ice cream: red bean, green tea, mango and vanilla. Pricing: Don't know the exact prices but I was there for lunch today and for 2 people without any alcohol it was about $35. Anyway, will I come there again? Of course but just not often. Like I said, there are far better places but as far as AYCE, this place is great.

Take-out: Salmon sashimi, salmon & avocado roll. The 5 pieces of salmon sashimi is usually pretty small and thin.

The order taking and service itself was quite longer than we would've thought it would be. We probably waited for our order for at least 15 min. We ordered the Chirashu Ramen, Tonkotsu Miso and Agedashi Tofu. However, Sapporo Miso Ramen was mistakenly served to us instead of the Tonkotsu Miso which was quite disappointing. The food were great. The broths were light and nicely balanced with flavour, not too salty. The shrimps in the Sapporo Miso Ramen were cooked perfectly but the pork in the Chirashu Ramen was a bit chewy. The soy sauce served with the Agedashi Tofu had a hint of sweetness which was quite refreshing to the palate. Overall, the food satisfied our cravings but the promptness and accuracy of the service could be improved.

Service was very attentive, with staff clearing bowls and refilling water frequently. It's quite a small restaurant with very little seating (we saw lots of people turned away during peak dinner hours), so a reservation is recommended on Fridays or weekends. Overall a nice spot and would visit again.

We were also informed it would take about 20 minutes, but it ended up being closer to 40-45 minutes due to the lunchtime rush. Totally understandable though, and the manager was very apologetic and even gave us a $5 coupon for our next visit along with our box. When the food arrived, the presentation of the tasting box was absolutely WOW.. it was so beautifully done. We were honestly just too hungry at that point to admire it for long. Unfortunately, I noticed the first roll I picked still had cucumber in it, and when we flagged it, the staff immediately looked into it. It turned out there was a miscommunication about the substitution, and most of the rolls in the box had cucumber. The manager personally came over, apologized, explained everything, and immediately took care of it by offering to remake the box without cucumber and providing a full refund, which really went above and beyond. Despite the hiccup, the service and care from the team really stood out. Mistakes happen, especially during busy lunch hours, but the way the team responded made a big difference. I'd definitely come back again.

I ordered the dream platter and aburi Syaki oshi. I wasn't expecting it to be nicely packaged and it was a damn shame we threw them out but I almost felt like I paid for the extra nice packaging only to have it be tossed... but it does make an excellent gift for someone who really loves sushi! I wasn't expecting the gold leaf OR edible flower garnish at all. It was a very cute touch on this very snowy day. The oshi sort of fell apart everytime I picked it up which was a shame because it was nicely charred and sweet from the mango. Bit of a personal peeve but I don't think sushi should fall apart when you pick it up with a chopstick. I think it should stay in tact. Next time I'm gonna order takeout and have it delivered so I can feel like I had a nice package of sushi delivered

The restaurant is super quiet and they offer great quality of food with great service, and the price is expensive if you choose to order sukiyaki set (expect $80+ per person). You can choose between sushi sets at different price level or sukiyaki from the menu. This suits the need of our group given some people prefer sushi but some couldn't eat raw food. They also offer a couple of limited appetizer dishes such as tempuras and unagi don. If you booked the sukiyaki table and want to order sushi, you need to call them in advance to notify which sushi sets you want. We tried the sashimi and sushi courses at $55, which included miso soup, 5 pieces of sashimi, 8 pieces of sushi (squid, toros, salmon, scallop etc.), handroll and matcha or black sesame icecream at your choice. The sushi is smaller than average, suitable for small eaters. The course is totally worth the money. I love every piece of sashimi and my favourite sushi include the scallop and the squid. Everything was super fresh. The dessert was also having the perfect sweetness level for me. In addition, we also tried the sukiyaki for two ($110), which includes mushrooms, cabbages, great quality of Angus beef, yummy tofu and udon. Again, all the material was with great quality and super fresh. I especially liked the sweet sukiyaki soup, the tofu and the udon. We also ordered some shareable dishes including chawanmushi, unagi don and cod. Cod was cooked to perfect (soft and flavourful), and unagi don had quite decent portion. It would be better if the unagi could be softer from my personal opinion. Chawanmushi was mediocre. Overall, I strongly recommend this restaurant to fan of Japanese cuisine. It meets different people's needs by offering both cooked and raw food options, and the sushi set definitely has great value for money.

That's because every other guest was a well-known "regular" -- a very good sign. We were ushered through the tranquil restaurant and seated at the sushi bar, a zen ambience. We chose the $55 sushi+sashimi omakase lunch course, and it didn't disappoint. The eight pieces of nigiri featured a somewhat typical selection of fish (and hotate/scallop), but slightly edgy and unique in the choice of seasoning and flavours, prepared by Chef Takinami with all the pomp and ceremony and you would expect from fine omakase. The pacing was excellent, we never felt rushed from piece to piece; the wait staff were attentive as would be expected from a high-end Japanese restaurant, on par with omakases that cost three times as much. Overall, incredible value on the meal, for both the food and experience. We couldn't help but look around at what the regulars were enjoying (in addition to their omakase nigiri) -- botan ebi nigiri with deep fried shrimp heads, chawanmushi, cooked dishes featuring monk fish livers, tempura appetizers and more... some great ideas for our next visit!

Ambiance was cute and the tables were a great size to do some damage. Let me explain to you that a smaller all you can eat menu is way smarter as the restaurant can then focus on quality rather than quantity. A lot of other places don't have fresh fish and rice. The other thing I loved as that this place had smaller rolls. I can't stand when there are huge rolls that you can barely fit your mouth around. It's more impressive to pack a lot of flavour in one small bite. I would say focus more on the rolls and nigiri and sashimi rather than the hot appetizers. They were still good but just not as good as the rolls. The chicken karrage could have been a little more crispy. Stand outs include: -Miso soup (it just tasted better than ones I've had and really hit the spot) -All nigiri and the torched sushi -Snow White Roll and the Feza roll -All sashimi -Takoyaki -ALL of the desserts We also split a sake flight which was so good as well. Great service and everything was soo satisfying. Just go and tell your friends. The one bad thing I would say is now I'm craving it again. I wanna go again..and again..and again.
