Not bad, but far from being the best AYCE places I've been to. The salmon oshizushi is the best dish here (and it's quite refreshing and tasty). I did not like most of the other snacks/appetizers. The soy sauce they give out is quite nice doe - I wonder if it's home made. It has a very in depth flavour of bonito/dashi. I'd come back not for the AYCE, but cheaper alternatives for rolls to pair it with their soy sauce. Service was very mid. Vibe was meh, like other big ayce restaurants.

My partner and I like to go to the downtown location a lot and when my friend told me how good this location was, we were down to try it out. As opposed to the downtown location, here you can order through iPad instead of pencil and paper which I appreciated. We ordered the usual items we would get from the other location. I would say that everything was comparable such as the tataki, sashimi and ice cream. Service was standard and the food came out much faster than we expected. Presentation of some of the items were good, I enjoyed the layout of the wooden board for the sushi which elevated our experience. The food here definitely satisfied our sushi craving 100%. I would come here if I was in the area but now I will stick with the dt location as I am closer there!

An amazing AYCE sushi restaurant with a huge assortment of selections to choose from! I love this place so much, and would highly expect anyone living in the Markham region. Love their hand rolls, and their appetizer selections. When you're craving some good food, I definitely recommend you come check this place out! 9/10 recommend!

Yknow what? I liked this place even though it was a bit pricy for all you can eat because they had a good premium selection of sushi and the fish was fresh. Portion sizes were very small and controlled but they didn't skimp out on flavour and it also meant we could order more if we wanted to. Initially I was concerned because when I walked in it was extremely quiet (there was a very big table and even they were quiet)... but now I understand... it's because the food was good thát everyone kept their mouth shut to enjoy it. I recommend getting the monk fish and Kaka special roll off the premium orders but bear in mind you can only select 1 item per person. My favourite menu items were the tataki and torched sushi. I would've given this place 5 stars but the servers were a bit rude and stand off ish so that wasn't a great experience. And even though the interior was very bougie you could at least come in casual wear and be fine.

Been here a few times and decided to finally do a review. This place can get very busy so it's better to make a reservation. The service and food has always been great. The food is fresh and it's always a satisfying meal. Their all you can eat menu has many items to choose from. The price is decent. Would definitely return the next time I'm craving for AYCE.

Torched sushi & their specialty rolls

I came on a Monday late afternoon, early evening, ~5-6pm with a friend. There was no one inside when we came in. A few tables started to fill over the course of dinner, but never got more than half full. I can't do AYCE sushi like I used to, but this one was good because: 1. At most places, when you order, you never get the full amount: they always "forget" to serve it to you. It took quite a bit of time for them to serve everything but they definitely served everything. When we realized we probably ordered too much, we were kind of eyeing the servers praying it wasn't for our table. 2. Quality of fish: I feel like a great indicator is when you order squid nigiri. Many places, it tastes really fishy or when they blanch it, they overcook it so it ends up as a rubbery texture. The one here was easy to chew and swallow, no ocean flavours. 3. Small pieces: for AYCE, I actually prefer smaller pieces, because they're easier to go through. Serving in large portions, especially with a bad rice:fish ratio just means I order less. My favourite orders of the evening were the baked mussels (it had a clam chowder cream to it), the squid (Ika) + butterfish + torched beef + salmon nigiri, the beef wrapped vegetables. Service was direct, to-the-point. Nothing outstanding or over the top. Music selection was so good. I always really love when restaurants play music I like. Overall, I recommend this place as a solid option for reliable AYCE sushi.

This sushi place is the worst restaurant I've ever been to. Anything that could go wrong with a restaurant, is going wrong here. First of all, it's located in the worst plaza. Lots of traffic getting into the plaza and even if you do, good luck with finding a parking soot less than 1-minutes walk away. Secondly, they have the worst customer service. And why should their staff even try to be nice? Cause mandatory 15% tip included in the bill, whether you were satisfied with the service or not. The staff are very rude; they yell at you; they don't pick up the empty plates from your table and even when they do, they throw the plates in the bin with a very loud noise that hurts your ears! The lunch menu options are very limited and when the food is served, it's very cold. The shrimp tempuras in the maki rolls were very cold. The ingredients weren't fresh and very oily. I would recommend everyone to stay as far away from this place as possible. It's not worth it at all!

Loved this place! Huge fan of the eel, smoked salmon, tuna, and beef enoki. Service was a little slow but the Saturday dinner crowd was huge. We luckily did not need to wait for a table. Ambiance seemed fun and casual - saw lots of families and couples dining out here. Even the dessserts were fun and varies - highly recommend the passionfruit yogurt. Would go again

This Markham location used to be very good. Kaka AYCE Japanese cuisine was one of the first buffet-style restaurants to offer aburi nigiri, torch pressed sushi which was generally reserved for upscale Japanese à la carte restaurants and not usually included in buffets. With an Izakaya-like menu to supplement the sushi, sashimi, udon soup and tempura menu, they became known for serving skewers and desserts. The best part was their dessert selection. Our table sampled mango, red bean and matcha ice cream, crème brûlée, panna cotta, and dark chocolate custard. For this reason my family would dine here for birthdays and family celebrations. But food and service this time was not the same as it used to be. One server was very curt in responding to customers and was yelling off to the side, which was tacky considering the cost of the meal was about $50 per person not including drinks. Other servers were more courteous and polite. We were served the wrong orders due to a mix-up and when it was brought to their attention, staff tried telling us that we ordered it and would not take the food away. Not wanting to waste good food we ate it anyway, consider it bonus sushi? With the items we did order, some items never arrived. Maybe the mix-up allowed another table to be served our order as bonus sushi too? We laughed and were good about it.

When this place opened up, it was raved and reviewed as the best AYCE sushi you can get. I think it's because they offered "Aburi" style sushi, and the quality was pretty decent. Now that the quality of options in Markham has gone up, it's more on the average side of things but I think it's still pretty good all things considered. Plus, they recently had a health code violation and when things get bad, places usually overcompensate afterwards to get back in the public's good graces, right?? Firstly, I'm still a huge fan of the Aburi style sushi. This is what I'm here for. The torched stuff on rice. So simple, but so good. Maybe I'm just old now and don't like my things completely raw, but I really like the way they do it. The squid one with the yuzu sauce on top is supreme. Things do tend to be on the saucier side which is delicious at first but gets heavy quickly. Same thing with their special rolls. Otherwise, the menu is pretty standard all-you-can-eat. On weekends, they have specialty menu items that all guests can order one of. There's some good stuff on there like salmon roe and monkfish liver. I'm not sure if they are as busy as when they first opened but when I went during the weekend, it was packed. And when I went on a Tuesday at 4PM, there were at least 3-4 tables eating early dinner with me. Still pretty popular, I'd say.

    Alex L.

I came during lunch hours and it wasnt that busy. The service was quick and they came to clean the table every now and then. The food was good. The special roles were butterfish and salmon. I recommend thecsalmon it was good. The takoyaki is meh but the food overall was contentful and for a reasonable price. It was a nice chill place to eat.

This is an all you can eat sushi restaurant, with no option to choose a la carte menu. This is right in the Markham Place and one of the most busiest parking in the area. I do not necessarily choose a restaurant because of parking, but because of food quality and reputation. I will only complain about parking when I am dissatisfied with the food or the service. Or both. You get a tablet to choose from a variety of sushi, appetizer and desert items. It seems that the selection has shrunk from what I would normally have expected. I think that the fish and sushi items on the menu are well within acceptable minimum, but there seem to be a limited selection for beef. This does not really bother me today as I was just craving for Sushi. Tomorrow might be a different story. I am more than happy with the quality and freshness. By freshness, I mean the degree of excellence in terms of appearance, texture, odour and flavour. Totally acceptable. The orders seems to flow well, and not everything dumped on your table all at once. It looks like all items we ordered were fulfilled at the work order line item, leaving nothing on back order. Desserts came exceptionally fast. Atmosphere was casual, just a tad loud. I normally drive around with a driving licence, a credit card and my phone. Fortunately, today I had my debit card on me, as they only accept cash or debits. Otherwise, I might have ended in the kitchen washing dishes to pay back. Will come back again.

    Angela L.

I remember when Kaka first open in the downtown location, I really enjoyed it as the quality was decent and food was good. I came to the Markham location recently, and I feel like the quality has gone down over the years. The sushi is honestly just mediocre at best. But I'm surprise to see it is still quite busy! I do like their range of selections though!! But I don't know if it's a place I'll frequent.

The establishment has a casual dine-in setup, offering a relaxed atmosphere suitable for a quick meal or a short break during the day. Despite being a dine-in restaurant, all food is served in takeout boxes, which, while convenient for those on the go, slightly diminishes the overall dining experience for those choosing to eat on the premises. The food quality itself was acceptable. Reasonably portioned, adequately seasoned, and prepared in a timely manner. While it may not stand out as exceptional, it fulfills the expectations for a casual meal. However, the main issue that significantly impacted my experience was the cleanliness of the tables. The first table I sat at had a noticeably sticky surface, which immediately raised concerns about hygiene and maintenance. Assuming it was an isolated case, I moved to a second table, only to encounter the same problem. A third attempt produced similar results, suggesting that this is not an isolated incident but rather a recurring issue throughout the dining area. A sticky table surface not only detracts from comfort but also gives the impression that cleaning practices are not being properly observed between guests. This, unfortunately, overshadowed what could have been a satisfactory meal. In summary, while the restaurant offers decent food at a fair value, the overall dining environment requires improvement, particularly in the table cleanliness and food presentation. Until this concern is addressed, I would recommend opting for takeout instead of dining in, as the food quality is adequate, but the in-house dining conditions fall short of acceptable standards.

The restaurant is super quiet and they offer great quality of food with great service, and the price is expensive if you choose to order sukiyaki set (expect $80+ per person). You can choose between sushi sets at different price level or sukiyaki from the menu. This suits the need of our group given some people prefer sushi but some couldn't eat raw food. They also offer a couple of limited appetizer dishes such as tempuras and unagi don. If you booked the sukiyaki table and want to order sushi, you need to call them in advance to notify which sushi sets you want. We tried the sashimi and sushi courses at $55, which included miso soup, 5 pieces of sashimi, 8 pieces of sushi (squid, toros, salmon, scallop etc.), handroll and matcha or black sesame icecream at your choice. The sushi is smaller than average, suitable for small eaters. The course is totally worth the money. I love every piece of sashimi and my favourite sushi include the scallop and the squid. Everything was super fresh. The dessert was also having the perfect sweetness level for me. In addition, we also tried the sukiyaki for two ($110), which includes mushrooms, cabbages, great quality of Angus beef, yummy tofu and udon. Again, all the material was with great quality and super fresh. I especially liked the sweet sukiyaki soup, the tofu and the udon. We also ordered some shareable dishes including chawanmushi, unagi don and cod. Cod was cooked to perfect (soft and flavourful), and unagi don had quite decent portion. It would be better if the unagi could be softer from my personal opinion. Chawanmushi was mediocre. Overall, I strongly recommend this restaurant to fan of Japanese cuisine. The eight pieces of nigiri featured a somewhat typical selection of fish (and hotate/scallop), but slightly edgy and unique in the choice of seasoning and flavours, prepared by Chef Takinami with all the pomp and ceremony and you would expect from fine omakase. The pacing was excellent, we never felt rushed from piece to piece; the wait staff were attentive as would be expected from a high-end Japanese restaurant, on par with omakases that cost three times as much. The space is bright, spacious, and finally offers something I've always wished for -- a proper sit‑in area where you can enjoy your food on the spot or order takeout to go. Beyond the dine‑in option, the selection here is fantastic. The Japanese grocery section is impressively stocked, with everything from pantry staples to harder‑to-find items. They even carry a wide range of sake, plus other Japanese alcoholic and non‑alcoholic beverages, which makes it easy to pick up something special for dinner at home. My personal highlight is the sashimi‑grade fish. The quality is consistently excellent, and I love packing up a few pieces to make my own donburi at home. It's fresh, clean, and honestly rivals what you'd get at many restaurants. If you're a fan of Japanese food -- whether you're cooking, snacking, or dining in -- this new Taro's Fish location is absolutely worth the visit.

A cozy Japanese spot in Unionville for Toronto's in-between weather…read more With Toronto's weather going back and forth lately, it's one of those times where you just want something warm and comforting. Miki Sushi feels like the kind of place you can casually stop by and settle into a simple, satisfying meal. Spicy Seafood Udon This is exactly what suits the weather right now. Loaded with shrimp, mussels, scallops, mushrooms, and other toppings, the broth has a Korean-style spicy kick that's both warming and comforting. Salmon Pressed Sushi Generously sauced and rich in flavor, each piece feels indulgent but easy to enjoy in one bite. BBQ Ika (Grilled Squid) Despite the chili on top, it's only mildly spicy. The squid is tender with a slight chew, served with bean sprouts and vegetables, and finished with a savory glaze. It comes out on a hot plate, so just be a little careful. Overall, it's a relaxed, comforting spot that works perfectly for days when you just want something warm without overthinking it
