Did we get scammed? Weekend price

My sister and I with three little kids under 8. Cost $140. Definitely got scammed. No longer coming here.

We've been going to this place ever since it opened and the sushi never disappoints! It is so good and fresh. The bento boxes and set course meals however are not as delicious. The flavour of the short ribs were great but a little bit dry and tough to chew. The shrimps were on the smaller size than desired but sauce flavour was on point. The accompanying items in the bento boxes were okay. The rice was too dry and rolls were nothing special. I've always liked the salad with the dressing and sushi rolls are always yummy. ALLERGY INFO: My child has a peanut allergy and was told there are no peanuts in the restaurant. We ordered the salmon set course meal. The salmon was dry and need to eat it with the flavourful sauce they add to it. She liked it and was fine. No reactions :) We ordered for pick up on Saturday night. There was a table at the entrance as you walk in for curbside pick up. Service was great and organized. Sushi rolls is the way to go here at Shogi Sushi!

I will probably not return. Pretty mediocre sushi. The only roll that I enjoyed was the spider roll. We ordered a tuna roll and there seemed to be barely any fish in it. At least once we notified the waiting staff of this, a new one was brought to us. They seem to use a lot of filler in their rolls to mask the lack of fish. Would pass on all rolls besides spider roll.

Overall the price is the most attractive reason to go. Variety is not much but not little either. If you are very very hungry and looking for cheap ayce, this is a good choice. Food I will rate 3 stars but because the price is cheaper than other ayce, I will give it a 4. In terms of the food, the sushi has more rice than other sushi place. The roll has less rice than other places. The sashimi is super thin compare to other places. The seaweed is not crispy on sushi. In general, I would recommend this place for people who likes "rolls (dragon rolls), tampura, and beef". Do not recommend for people looking for "sashimi, sushi, and dessert".

Fresh and cheap! Came here for lunch and that is really the main take away. All You Can Eat Lunch is only like $13.99 and everything I got was really fresh and tasty. The place was a bit drab but the service was friendly. One strange thing: I finished my meal, paid with visa, put my pin into the machine and it was approved. It prints out receipt and I tell waitress I dont need a copy. She thanks me and about 4-5 mins later I leave. As Im getting into car to drive away she runs out of the restaurant and comes up to me telling me I have to sign the paper. What? I put in my pin and it was all approved ... so strange. So ok I signed the bill and away she went. I'm confused. But hey, fresh and cheap!

Fantastic prices and incredibly fresh takeout. Shogi never disappoints and in my opinion is by far the best sushi in the area. Their customizable party trays are a great value as well and an awesome way to try a bit of everything.

So we were in the Vaughan Mills area in search for a quick bite to eat. Since I didn't want to eat in the food court, decided to do a quick Yelp to see what was in the area. So I found Shogi Sushi -- and their AYCE lunch menu for the weekend. For just 15 bucks each, you can't really ask for more than what Shogi Sushi has on their menu. The items were decent (for the price point), however, I did wish they had some type of udon (noodles in soup) of some sort. As for service, there was one who was super friendly and quick on her feet; whereas the other, she clearly looked like she did not want to be at work. Nevertheless, it didn't damper our experience. So, would I trek all the way to Vaughan to eat here? Probably not. If I was in the area and craving for a few sushi rolls at a good price, I would definitely return.

I can't even explain how disgusting this place was. The food was beyond gross and the sushi was sour. Why is my shrimp sushi sour ?? While they mop the floors beside us I wonder this. That picture of Beef is 3 orders of beef. And ice cream 3 scoops?? Honestly 13.99 but trust me I rather eat McDonald's than this. They're so rude they Litterally pushed around this student and she almost fell. So rude they yell at people. YOU EAT OR U GO BYE Disgusting place

We came to Shogi Sushi for lunch today after seeing an advertisement in the local paper. The restaurant is located where the Kazuki Sushi used to be, across from Canada's Wonderland. Most of the parking spots were taken, but inside the restaurant there's a sign that says that customers can use parking in the back. The restaurant has 9 tables (6 of which can hold a group of 4). The decor was pretty much the same as Kazuki. Shogi offers AYCE sushi for $13 for lunch, but is an extra $2 for Friday through Sunday. The sushi was really good. We had salmon, butterfish, fish roe, clam, and spicy salmon sushi. I thought the salmon sushi was really good. It was warm, which I like (no ice-cold fish for me please!). The shrimp tempura was tasty and light. It's not over-fried and hard like some other places. We really liked the beef teriyaki. The beef was tender, again unlike other places that might serve overcooked beef. We also tried the happy hour roll and the spicy butterfish roll, both were very tasty. I also tried the red bean ice cream, which was tasty. One of the owners came by and asked if we'd like to try the sesame ball, which has red bean inside. It's not on the menu. It was super nice to ask, but we were stuffed! The wait service was very prompt and attentive. In an area where there are a number of competing AYCE sushi restaurants, Shogi is definitely a strong contender. We'll definitely be back.

Can't get enough of this place. I've dined here a few times for their AYCE which for their price is really worth it. $21.99 for weekday Dinner AYCE, add $2 for weekends. Quality and service is top notch. Rolls are not over filled with rice. I've ordered the roll party trays many times and it's always been a hit at my family parties. When I tell them how much it costs they're amazed and ask how is that possible and from where?!? The great thing about the roll trays are you get to select which rolls you want. 48pc is about $25, 70pc is around $40 (cash payment - takeout only) . This is my go to takeout sushi restaurant. Even though it's a little bit far for me I'm still willing to make the trek for it!

I'm currently trying to discover new AYCE sushi joints near me as I just moved into the area and I actually enjoyed my first time at Shogi Sushi. The shop itself is quite small but very cozy and I was seated quickly. The way you order is on paper which didn't surprise me as how small the place is. The sushi and sashimi was good, I loved the display they did for our food because you wouldn't have expected something so beautiful from such a small shop. The sushi rice was a little loose and fell off my rolls or broke with my sushi pieces so my plate looked like a mess. But the sashimi was nice and fresh! (Canadian Clam is actually surf clam) The service was great, the waitress was really sweet and always made sure things were okay with us and there was one waiter helping them out and he was so sweet too. Loved this experience thanks to staff, will be returning again!

My brother and I stumbled into Shogi Sushi as we were looking for a quick sushi dinner to satisfy his cravings - "Sushi is life" he says. While quickly glancing at reviews I had assumed Shogi would have a-la-carte selections but then was handed an AYCE card the moment we were seated. Pricing was very reasonable so we did the AYCE. I'm not sure if they have a-la-carte options. We selected a variety of fried items, miso soup, seaweed salad, maki rolls, sushi, and dessert. I would say the quality is very good for the price so you're really getting a good bang for your buck - I paid $15.99 adult and $9.98 for a child for weekend lunch AYCE. The quantity is small enough that there's no waste. The makis came out in 6 rolls and all fried items came out in either 1-2 pieces per order. They had an interesting maki roll that had fried banana, cream cheese and shrimp tempura (I forget the name). It sounded interesting so we got it and were pleasantly surprised at how good it was. The food came out very quickly and service was the most attentive I've ever received at an AYCE restaurant! The moment one of the plates were empty, a waitress came swooping in to grab it and rearrange everything else on the table. They even periodically emptied the plate for empty edamame shells! They did forget one item we ordered (the tuna sushi pizza) but quickly made it and brought it out to us when I asked about it. It's in a small plaza so parking is limited but usually available right outside since it's not exactly a high traffic area. I'm definitely adding Shogi Sushi to my sushi go-to list in Vaughan!

Went for lunch, 4 stars for the food. Sushi Rolls were great, small amount of rice, good quality. Beef teriyaki really tender, one of the best from many ayce lunch sushi I have tried. Can't comment on their sashimi thou since I'm not a fan of raw fish. Small place, but definitely deserve a try if you are looking for ayce sushi in the area. Plus, they are offering a 15% off grand opening special, call to check thou.

The moment you walk in, one detail that stood out to me was the Mahayana Buddhist altar blessing the owner and visitors with health and prosperity. As a Taiwanese person, that instantly felt relatable and oddly comforting--like being welcomed into someone's home. Although the restaurant is Vietnamese-owned, the Japanese food here is absolutely top-notch. I've visited three times so far, and the quality of their bento boxes has been impressively consistent every single time. My personal favorite is the chicken katsu bento. The chicken is incredibly fresh and flavorful. Unlike many places where chicken katsu can end up greasy or heavy, Ikigai's version is perfectly crispy and airy on the outside while staying juicy and tender inside. Paired with their tangy, addictive katsu sauce, every bite just makes you want the next one immediately. I'm also a big fan of their maki rolls and tempura. You can genuinely taste the care and quality in the food--even the side salad and miso soup feel thoughtfully prepared. Considering the quality, the prices are very reasonable, and the portions are generous. The bento box is around $20 if you pay cash, which feels like a great deal. The space itself is cozy, spotless, and welcoming, and the service has always been excellent. I genuinely love this place and will definitely keep coming back.

We ordered this time the Yorokobi set for 2 and upgraded the sushi to brown rice for $5 extra and upgraded the green dragon roll that came with the meal to volcano salmon roll (which is one of their popular special rolls) and paid the difference. We also added a hamachi carpaccio just for more more protein for my SO because he thinks it might not be enough, but we were left super full. I love that the sushi wasn't loaded with rice and it was thinly included, we did mention that we usually don't like that much and the server said they can even adjust the rice content in the sushi.... We didn't confirm to adjust it but perhaps they went with it because rice is perfectly thin in the maki and less than usual for a nigiri, which is great because otherwise I don't know if we would have finished the meal. $5 to upgrade to brown rice for the sushi set that didn't have that much rice is still IMO a bit steep. Other that, the sushi is fresh, the special rolls are eye catching and tasty and the hamachi carpaccio was good too, LOVE the presentation. I think the best thing here is still their special rolls though! Server is so personable and made sure we were well taken care of. Only feedback I have here is the miso soup that with the Yorokobi set is way too salty I couldn't finish mine after a sip. Ambiance was clean with little Japanese decor throughout.
