Akram is great when I bring in an item that I know doesn't fit well, but I can't figure out what needs to be fixed. He's tailored pants, skirts, dresses, suits, and jackets and all come out looking and feeling custom made. He's a bit pricey and only takes cash, but has been worth the cost and seems on par with the area. Turnaround is always two weeks. I've only had one hem come undone after he did it and he re-hemmed at no charge. read more

Had two pairs of jeans altered for length, charged $35 apiece - while I think this is pretty steep, I guess my recommendation would be to just come here for more complex alterations. Not going to knock the rating for it being expensive - that's what the $$$s are for read more

After using the same tailor for years whose shop had grown too large and inconsistent for my taste, I was introduced to Akram by the staff at Blake. Knowing that Blake wouldn't trust their clien'ts purchases to anyone subpar, I went without hesitation. For over a year now, I have received consistently excellent tailoring and alterations for my fine purchases. As an example of my trust in his work, I decided to purchase a very boxy velvet Gucci blazer which was VERY unflattering when I bought it. But, I took it in to Akram and it was made far more shapely than it was intended to be. Had I not had confidence in Akram, I would never have made the hefty purchase of an unflattering jacket. From pants, to dresses to nips and tucks of jackets, blazers and blouses, I have never been disappointed. Fine alterations and tailoring seems increasingly difficult to find these days (for women in particular), but at Akram the art is alive and well. read more

Akram tailor DESTROYED my bridesmaid dress. Extremely noticeable uneven hem I am convinced these other reviews are fake. Unfortunately I only have two days until the wedding and just got the dress back so hopefully I can find another tailor to do some last minute work, but even then this "tailor" made one side incredibly too short. It is approx. 2 inches shorter than the other side, such that the lining of the dress is longer than the chiffon fabric on only one side. As a tailor, how do you miss that!?!? I am going to come back to demand the $45 it took to destroy my dress as soon as I get back from the wedding. What a scam. read more

I just returned with 2 full suitcases of clothes I brought to Chicago for a week of client meetings. One suitcase for the meetings and the other filled with clothes to be altered! I brought them to Akram on Monday and received a text that they were all done while at dinner on Thursday night! I mean, a suit, 7 pairs of jeans, 5 pairs of dress pants and all done like they were custom made! I will NEVER take my clothes to anyone else...ever! I came here with a smoking jacket I wanted re-lined. This was meant to be an anniversary gift. When I went to them and told them specifically what I wanted he said it was doable and set the price at $250. I asked them to re-line the jacket with velvet on the inside and fix 2 rips on the out side. I told him I didn't care what fabric they used on the outside of the jacket as long as it looked nice and matched the print, but that the inside needed to be velvet or some type of warm fabric like that. When I came to pick it up the inside was not what I asked for at all. I wish they called me to clarify what I wanted because now I'm out of $250 and I have something I didn't want. His excuse was that we never talked about velvet, and only talked about re lining the jacket with what ever fabric. He said if I even mentioned velvet he wouldn't have taken it at all. He clearly just wasn't listening to me because that was the main thing I wanted done. In the end I wish I didn't come here, and now I'm out of money, as well as an anniversary gift. read more
