Based on the many good reviews, I was able to find reputable businesses to efficiently repair them at reasonable costs. Now, there's this 30-ft tall tree that has been growing at my mother-in-law's house, w/ the crawling roots growing 20 feet into the neighbor's yard w/ potential damage to their retaining wall. Yes, I needed a tree remover but didn't know anyone. Who do I call? Checked on Yelp, & w/ some 58 reviews & 4 1/2 stars, A.L. Best Tree Service stands out. Yes, he did the job, & I couldn't be happier! My hubby & sister-in-law wanted a licensed/insured tree removal service to remove the tree. Based on referrals from friends, they logged onto the State Department of Commerce & Consumer Affairs website to check whether these referrals were licensed and insured. Those that were legitimate were called, & some of them went to the home & provided estimates; whereas, some didn't even return calls after leaving messages. When my hubby asked me if I knew of any tree removal services, I quickly told him to check Yelp. Yes, Yelp had a number of them listed, & one in specifically, A.L. Best Tree Services had some 58 reviews with a 4 1/2 star rating. We checked if it was licensed & insured, & it was. My sister-in-law called A.L. Best Tree Services to get an estimate. Its owner, Andy Liaina, came to the house two days later. He was very friendly & was knowledgeable, as he explained that it was an African tulip tree (which we didn't know what it was) & what he would be doing to remove the tree. He said it was a "soft" tree, so its removal could be done quickly. His price was very reasonable, much less than estimates given by other competitors for this job. You got the job, Andy! An appointment was made two days later for Andy & his crew to cut down the tree. Initially, he was a couple of hours late, as he explained that they had a big job earlier, & w/ the sun, heat, & humidity, it took longer due to the need for his workers to rest & be hydrated. Okay, I thought, as I hoped that there would not be any further disappointment. Andy & his crew of four people, dressed in fluorescent orange & green safety long sleeved shirts, came w/ their tree branch/stump shredder & grinder equipment. One of his workers quickly climbed the tree & whacked off branches, then hauled them & fed them through the shredder/grinder, which became pieces of wood chips that were automatically shoved into their covered truck. The other workers did the same to the remaining branches, the tree stump, & its roots, as they grinded these into small pieces. They cleaned up the area so that it was spotless. The whole process took no longer than 15 to 20 minutes! It was hard to believe that the tree & the roots in the neighbor's yard were entirely gone. Our neighbor thanked us & was very satisfied that the roots were gone; now, he could plant his own things in the spot where he previously couldn't due to the huge roots crawling across his yard. We were also highly satisfied w/ the removal of the tree. Despite the delay in getting to our home, the excellent service provided outweighed the delay glitch. I could not believe how quickly the whole process took! Andy & his workers were hard-working, fast, & efficient, as they knew exactly what needed to be done. Andy & his workers were very friendly, as we had some "talk story" moments. His price was so reasonable! When I asked Andy how he was able to do the job at a cost much lower than his competitors, his reply was, "It's better to have (jobs) than not have." Makes sense, doesn't it? The owner Andy answered the phone, visited my house, and gave me a quote for the job. He arrived early at the appointed time and 5 hours later, my forest of trees were trimmed and now the sunshine fills my front yard and home. I love that his employees are skilled and efficient. Above and beyond service with Aloha!!! I found Andy (A.L. Best Tree Services) on Yelp and contacted him and a few other companies for pruning of my very large, very old Lychee tree. Andy was the first to respond and remained consistently in contact via text and phone calls (others said they would call or come and flaked out). Andy came as planned to give me my free estimate, he was personable, funny and honest. Here is where it gets good....I started getting second thoughts and doubts after reading some of the negative comments and especially because I wouldn't be home on the day we scheduled (the very next day). I tried to cancel and reschedule for another day when I would be there, but got the reassuring response from Andy "no worry sis, I going take care for you". That was all I needed and I am so glad I trusted him. Long story short, my family kept sending me progress pics as I was at work; however, nothing compared to coming home in amazement and happiness at the end results!!!! Scheduled an appointment for my 81 year old uncle and Andy was very responsive and took great care in taking care of him. He also gained another job at the same time for my uncles next door neighbor. They were also very satisfied and happy with the job they did. They removed a large mango tree as well as trimmed a bunch of other trees. For my uncles home, they removed a large guave tree, lychee tree, and trimmed about 3 mango trees around the home. Wish I took before and after pictures but missed my opportunity. I didn't want to write a bad review, but if I had known before I called them what I know now, it would have been helpful. So I hope this van help someone else make an educated decision. They are not professional. It was very difficult to get them to commit to a time and honor it. He gave me a quote via text exchanges. I sent him photos and a detailed explanation of what I wanted done. The quote came in high, but I was desperate at this point to get the job done, so I just agreed. He changed the first appointment. Moved it back by a week. When they day finally came, I texted him early in the morning to remind him of our 1:00 pm appointment. I rushed hom at 1:00 to meet him, and waited until 2:30 to text him. He responded, "on my way". An hour later, (!), he called and asked what time i had to leave. Then he was honest and said he was still on a job and needed another hour. Again, being desperate, I agreed, and made rearranged my schedule for the rest of the day to accommodate him. When they finally showed up, they did a very sloppy job. Tried to cover it up, but burying it in mulch. Then he tried to leave. I pointed out that only half the job was done. He claimed to not know I wanted the whole thing done. (Language barrier?) I showed him the text, and he also checked on his phone and clearly saw that I was correct. He acted inconvenienced, and said, "But it's already 5:00!" He came late! So that's not my problem. Then he had the nerve to lean in and whisper to me, "You can give us more money?" Long story short, I did, to get the job done, and get them off my property. I called Andy on a Tuesday to get an estimate after reading all the reviews on Yelp. Moving into a new home is exciting but, also very costly. You have to take on whatever condition the home is in and the land that it is on. Our home is very nice though it was covered by... a hot mess. We needed something done at a reasonable price. Andy came the evening I asked to get a quote. He checked out the area... front of the porch, my hibiscus hedges, and a tree removal in the back. As I'm sitting out front listening to him go over everything with my husband, I was extremely scared as all I was thinking how it was adding up. When he gave my husband the quote I was like "yeah! Let's do it!" Lol. Andy explained the cost and how the extra was to rent the stump grinder. Understandable. Andy said he was available to do it the next day. We told him our daughter was going to have surgery and we weren't going to be home. He suggested that it would be the perfect time since it would be loud and make it uncomfortable if my baby were home after surgery. That was nice of him. We asked how we would be able to pay as we wouldnt be home and he said not to worry as he also lives in Ewa and we could make arrangements after. After my daughters surgery, we came home and caught them right before they left. Andy had to leave to do another estimate so, we left one of the men with the money and texted Andy to let him know we did. Might I just say that they worked their butt off. Our house feels more welcoming! We paid them to remove our trees and shrubs. That's it. We didn't care for perfection or whatever anyone else could complain about. The job is done. That was all I could ask for. Right after it was done, we told our friends about Andy and to contact him for the trees they wanted removed. These guys are tree hackers. Their pruning skills are mediocre. Their price is good, but you get what you pay for. The boss comes out, gives you a price (cash), and doesn't supervise the job. Asked me for half in the beginning because he needs the money to buy something(?). His workers used cinder blocks on my property (without asking) to block the wheels on their truck, broke it before they left. Another worker asked to use my pruning stick (they don't have tools?). I asked to trim back one tree (reduce the height) and thin out another (remove dead branches). They did the opposite. The boss says why didn't I watch and tell them. I told him that's what he's for. When I moved into my new house, it came with a 25 foot coconut tree that was in desperate need of trimming. I called to schedule an appointment. When the time came, they were about an hour late, then I called them to make sure they were coming. They had forgot about it and would be able to come the next day. The next day, they were about 30 minutes late, then I called. They arrived about 30 minutes later. When the job was completed (they did do a good job), I was going to pay by check. But they refused, requesting it to be in cash. I told them I don't carry cash on hand and would have to go to the ATM. But they still requested cash. I'm not one to write reviews, but knowing this beforehand would have really helped me choose. I called Andy for an estimate and although we had a snag on Thursday, he showed up exactly on time on Friday the 15th (Sept). Walked around my mom's back yard and gave me 2 options. I could let it go and save the money (he was honest because it was a huge job) or he could do the job on Monday. I decided it needed to be done. All I can say is Amazing! I had scheduled a Sunday appointment to remove of a large, ratty, 60+ foot palm tree from my tiny yard. Saturday morning Andy, the owner called to see if we could do it Saturday instead, which I immediately agreed to. The crew of 4 showed up, worked efficiently, safely, and quietly. The tree was about 4' from my house on one side, 4' from my neighbor's fence, and about 15 ' feet from the concrete neighborhood wall. Anything could go wrong with the small amount of space and obstacles to deal with. I was definitely a nervous Nelly walking around, thinking the worst! My worst fears were a tree through my roof, a stump through the bedroom, a 9' palm frond through the bedroom window, or someone's fence being crushed. None of which happened! The giant eye sore was completely removed from my yard, without any incident in about 2 1/2 - 3 hours. They all worked so proficiently. Everyone had a job and did it well, in my opinion, to perfection. When they were finished they cleaned up my yard and didn't leave a trace. I would recommend these guys to anyone... big job or small.
