Greasy oily food, dirty restaurant, very unprofessional staff. I was starving so I figured I'd give them a try. The place itself is not clean at all and I should've walked out right then. The gentlemen working have no business handling food. Wearing gloves and touching everything in sight then touching food is not ok. The guy that was making someone's order was literally taking hits off his vape at the same time then cutting chicken as he's blowing vape smoke on the poor guy's food. When I got my food, I took one bite, spit it out and threw the whole thing in the trash. Look at the pics. Do not be fooled by the influencers, just look around and observe before you order. It was a waste of time and money for us and like I said, even though I was starving I couldn't eat it. If I were the owner I'd fire everyone there, get a cleaning crew for some deep cleaning then hire a new staff. The food was easily the best Arab food I've had. Ever. The owners were super nice and actually invited us to sit instead of take out, and we got complimentary toum (also best toum I've ever had), peppers, pickles, and some sort of Arab bread. The bread was nice and crackly and there was a LOT of it. The toum, unlike other Arab places with toum, was actually light and had that whipped texture that is desired. The garlic flavor was on point and not too overpowering. The star of the show was easily the crispy chicken shawarma, though. It looks small in some videos, but it was wider than my mouth. I had to do some talking to find out myself, but to get the fries, toum, and pickles next to the shawarma, you need to ask for the crispy chicken shawarma combo. It was super crispy, and the breading was very nicely toasted. I kept finding myself layering the top with some pickles, fries, and more toum. They also drizzled some pomegranate molasses on the chicken shawarma, which gave it a tangy but also fruity aftertaste. We also ordered the charcoal chicken and kebab. The kebab, instead of normal beef on a stick, actually came with some yellow rice and some REALLY GOOD spicy seasoned bread that was very soft and moist on some parts and crispy on the others. You could literally see the spice particles on it. The charcoal chicken was juicy, tender, and had that charcoal roasted flavoring. It even came with a bunch of complimentary fries. The fries on both the shawarma and the charcoal chicken was nicely battered, and the shawarma fries were very well seasoned. The only thing is that the bathroom is through a door that leads upstairs, and you have to open two doors. If you're someone like me and don't like the feeling of putting grip on things with sticky stuff on your hands, you won't like that. It's one of those turn knobs. Finally, the music made me feel like I was actually back in Abu Dhabi watching fire shows while eating falafel. Please visit, they are amazing people who make amazing food! read more

I don't ever make reviews, but I got the worst experience here. Got falafel ($5, remember these prices, it will be important later), hummus ($7), grilled chicken over fries ($16) 2 crispy shawarma ($20, but one didn't come, so let's count this as $10) and 2 crispy shawarma combos ($32). Ended up getting 3 crispy shawarmas on one plate over a bed of fries. Guy working there said that's how BOTH COMBOS come and reassured me that my second sandwich will be out shortly; which for $42 is ridiculous. As aforementioned, the last sandwich didn't come. I ended up sharing the grilled chicken with my wife. After eating, I went to wash my hands in the bathroom, which was on the second floor next to the prayer room. No issue there, until I found out the soap was refilled with water and little soap as the solute. There were also bug traps on the floor. I ended up being told the cost would be $85; however if you add everything up; it turns out to be $70 not including tax. I asked for an explanation, and the dude explained that using an Amex credit card is $5 extra, the falafel was billed as $8, the hummus was billed as $8 as well. (in what world is falafel + hummus $16??) I was also charged for 2 drinks since the combo apparently doesn't come with drinks, each CAN was $2.50. This adds up to $85. I was charged $90, meaning the $5 credit card surcharge was applied afterwards, I don't know what the extra $5 was billed for. No receipt and no itemization on the terminal (terminal showed $90.00 flat, no tax?). To be clear, I am an Arab Muslim. I don't like to make bad reviews about ANY place, much less a halal one on Palestine Way, but I'm pretty sure I was overcharged because I have an American Express card and was dressed in a Burberry jacket. The reason I'm writing this review is because I didn't grow up rich and Muslims (or rather anyone) shouldn't judge one for their appearances, or even worse, make a profit off it. He tells me again they're out while persisting to make for others. I threw a fit and he agreed to make them. Only 5 at that.... These guys pick and choose who they serve. I also asked for babaghanoush repeatedly at least 8 times within 15min while eating and I had to get up out of my seat and ask in his face. Even then he just tossed it in a platter and threw a full cup of oil on top. During those 15 minutes of me waiting to get my appetizer dish. The guy was running back-and-forth opening and closing the front door with gloves that he would be making the food with to watch a car parade. Being raised right outside Ironbound Newark... we know our Portuguese bread and desserts. When we were visiting P-Town we had to see how it compared with our bakeries back home. It did not disappoint. As authentic as it gets! The workers were extremely welcoming, the entire place is spotless, and best off all the bread/desserts are super fresh. I ordered the beef shawarma sandwich. The bread was perfectly crispy and the shawarma was juicy, fresh and full of flavor. It has tahini, tomatoes and pickles. Best shawarma sandwich in Paterson. If you are hungry and walking on Main street just follow your nose! This place grabbed my attention by the smell of their grill. I've never visited here since I have my own spots to grab Middle Eastern kabobs/shawarma's, and boy have I been missing out! This restaurant has been around for decades, and the foot traffic was non-stop...not overly crowded, but they do have a good flow of customers. This is very good, because it means it has good food, and the food is consistently being made fresh. I just love when I see fresh coal used to grill meats. This is old school, and gives it a unique grill flavor that is mouth watering. At this point I was sold, I needed to try a mixture of everything. I was soooo happy I did! I went with the Mixed Platter and added beef and chicken shawarma to it. The meat was grilled to perfection. Even the grilled onions were on point! The spicy seasoned bread had that grill taste as well. The falafel were good, and the tahini sauce was money! The best part was this platter and falafel order didn't break the bank. Al Kumah is hands-down my favorite spot in Paterson for Arabic/Syrian food. It's not fancy, but the food, service and prices can't be beaten. The first thing you notice upon entering the restaurant is two enormous sizzling shawarmas (chicken and beef) rotating on their spits as they get crispy and delicious. You're also hit by the wonderful, enticing smell of roasting meat. I promise you, even if you just finished a five-course meal, you'll suddenly be hungry again. It's this beef shawarma, that makes me drive 30 minutes and spend another 30 minutes searching for an elusive parking spot nearby. It's that good, and incredibly inexpensive. At just $6 for a shawarma wrap, I always get two (and you should too. Trust me!) You get a choice of pita or lavash bread for the wrap. Go with the lavash. It's fresh and soft and holds up to the extremely juicy ingredients very well. They slice the shawarma of your choice off the spit freshly for each order (no hot trays here!), add sliced onions, pickles and tahini (and hot sauce if you ask for it), and then wrap it tightly. Then after a quick dip in the drippings from the spit, they give the wrap a quick bit of flame from the rotisserie and crisp it all up on the griddle. The combination of the simple ingredients, the incredibly flavorful shawarma meat with those crispy charred bits, and the freshly grilled bread make it one of the truly great sandwiches you will eat. I should also mention that the two brothers running the store are a couple of the nicest guys you will ever meet. They're clearly proud of their family restaurant and the food they make, and they should be. Definitely try Al Kumah if you're in the area, but remember... get two! read more

One of my clients wanted halal food and I decided to pick up something for myself as well. I called in my ordered for an 11:45 pick up. When I arrived I parked on the street nearby. I walked in and waited for the man to get to me. I ordered the falafel sandwich and he didn't catch that part, he only gave me falafel only with an order of fries. He had to make it a sandwich real fast. When he was done I paid and left. When I got in I ate and the meal was just ok. The falafel sandwich while filling wasn't great. The fries were just ok. Fresh delicious food! My girlfriend and I were walking around trying to pick where and what we wanted to eat. We are so happy we stumbled in here. The staff were so welcoming and efficient. We learned it's the oldest family owned restaurant on the block. The food was so fresh and delicious. We ordered the Alkumah platter, fattoush and salad. The salad was my favorite; an amazing mix of cucumbers, tomato's, parsley and a citrusy dressing. The meat was cooked to the perfection with much flavor. Their tea is quite yummy as well. We devoured our food before we could snag a picture. I will be revisiting and I recommend this place. 10/10 read more

Felt like trying a new spot for Arabic food so I walked in here. It doesn't look like much, but you can see the meats grilling directly behind the counter. The service was pretty bad and the restaurant looks pretty dirty, but I like the falafel here more than over at Al-Basha. The falafel balls are more moist on the inside. The tahini sauce served with the falafel reminded me greatly of grape leaves. Shawarma was also very good, with a nice char. The portions are a bit smaller for the same price though. read more
