MAKE RESERVATIONS!!! Get help from your hotel/airbnb accommodation to get reservations! It's one of my dinner highlights for my trip! My lamb chop was SO JUICY AND MELT in my mouth! It was so good! Please get the tiramisu if they have it on their menu!

Aside from the food poisoning, it was a lovely experience. The host and waiters were so kind and helpful. Every course was beautifully presented on the plate, from decorative fruits to edible butterfly accents. Unfortunately, the lake fish ragú gave me food poisoning (yes, I'm sure it was the fish ragú as it was the only thing that I ate that the rest of my family didn't that whole day. I was the only one that got sick). I thought it was strange that they added salmon in addition to the lake fish to the ragú--I'm not sure which one was contaminated, but one of them definitely made me quite sick. It was a very bad end to an overall enjoyable night.

We enjoyed Al Prato! Wonderful atmosphere and Delicious food. The chef is walking around checking on things. You need a reservation -- it is small and off the beaten path!

Incredible dining on an adorable cobblestone, quiet road in beautiful Varenna! Our favorite dish was the steak tartar, but we loved the tomato soup, sea bass, and the dessert! Make reservations! They fill up quickly and do not take walk in usually as there is one seating per night.

Wow. If you're in Varenna for lunch or dinner, you HAVE to come! This was one of five restaurants we tried in town and it was so obviously the BEST! AMBIANCE: The location is set back from the main drag, which is honestly a relief. The crowds get so thick and noisy on the water it's just not pleasant. But here, Al Prato is tucked away on a little quiet corner and it feels much more private. You can still hear the waves on the water. FOOD: Delicious. Anything you order will be delicious. In fact, it was so good that my husband and I came two nights in a row (and we noticed another couple who literally did the same ). Our first night, we got: - eggplant parmesan appetizer: the best thing I've eaten during my week on Lake Como! Not too cheesy, perfectly cooked eggplant, tasty and beautiful plate garnishes - risotto (must order at least 2 portions): it came with some raw shrimp in the middle that was fresh and tasty. some kind of pink element in the sauce. cheese, perhaps ricotta? in all to die for. - redfin tuna special: sesame crusted tuna served with orange basil sauce, roasted veggies, and a delightful bit of potatoes au gratin. everything on the plate was just right. i ate it all! On our second night, we just got dessert (we didn't have room the first time!). We got: - homemade tiramisu: comes in a jar and has generous layers of cream and cake with beautiful fruit and chocolate garnishes on top - warm chocolate cake: it came with a heavenly gooey center, lots of fruit garnish, a scoop of gelato, and tart red berry sauce. SERVICE: beyond the incredible ambiance and food, the service is really the hallmark of this place. The staff is exceedingly kind and helpful. They show their personality and really seem to enjoy where they work. The owners, a married couple, are ever present and show a lot of passion. They take great care to only accept the amount of guests that allows them to really take their time with each table so nothing ever feels rushed. We were even encouraged to take our time and please enjoy the timing. We adjusted to that philosophy quite nicely.

Omg this is the best Italian food I've had while in so this is a Verenna! The place is small and intimate so best to make a reservation in advance. Highly recommended. delizioso!!!

Found this restaurant on Yelp and TripAdvisor and it did not disappoint. The food and wine were delicious. We were in town in September and tried to make a reservation the same day and it was booked up so I highly recommend calling ahead. Luckily we were able to get a table the following night. The restaurant is located away from the other restaurants. It was such a nice private setting with their own courtyard. Wine selection was great- be aware only you can only talk to one guy about the wine. We started with the octopus and it was beautiful and so tender. I ordered the lamb chops bc of the yelp raves and it was so tender you don't need a knife. My husband got the fish wrapped in cellophane. While it was tasty, he was not a fan of that cooking method. Dessert was yummy, we wanted to try their version of tiramisu. We would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone coming to Varenna.

    1) food 6 out of 5, best food by Como lake hands down 2) owner is the one who will seat you and will take order, he admits he must be called "Rude stuff" he claims that he must be like this, because it helps run the business, let it be, 4/5 on this one 3) atmosphere is super cozy, you have huge pine tree that will cover the sunlight 5/5 Overall experience is amazing, do not call to try to do reservation, they are not taking any, we tried and we were told they fully booked, but we came right after 12:00 pm (which is the time when they open) we got seated right away!

A most pleasing dinner at AlPrato in Varenna! We enjoyed a surprisingly light Buffalo Mozzarella and Tomato appetizer followed by perfectly seasoned Beef Tar Tar & Breast of Duck all' arancia dinners. As for dessert, the Cheese cake ciocco e lamponi cannot be missed either. Everything was perfectly prepared and presented. The prices were extremely fair (if not underpriced). At dinner, there was one seating, so there was no rush and you got to enjoy the experience. Caution! Reservations for lunch and dinner are a must! Multiple disappointed diners were turned away as this is a must experience.
