The food is amazing, authentic and fresh. The service is great, and perfect for a relaxing meal with friends. The chai tea is to die for-- worth every penny. I definitely recommend the sampler platter or any of the components of it (hummus, babaganoosh, tabouli and falafel). Also the lamb is wonderfully marinated and perfectly tender. This place is so amazing! Nayef, the owner, is the kindest soul and he truly cares for all his customers, treating them as friends. The food is incredible and I have never had an experience here that wasn't pleasant. My entire family came here for my brothers graduation, and despite his initial plans to close the restaurant to allow time for the catering he was also doing, Nayef offered to keep the restaurant open for our party of 12. My experience did not match the other positive reviews. The waiter was great almost as if he was trying to make up for the place. We were gracious enough to continue with our order as take out instead of dining there after we realized the place smelled like an old ash tray. This is probably not their fault because the place shares a wall with a cigar lounge. Two items we wanted from the menu were not available and there were a few others mentioned. We were told it was the end of their week. It was Saturday night! I realize that old town Lynchburg is a bit of a ghost town but if I had a restaurant I would not have things run out on Friday or Saturday night. After we left with the food I found that my Kibbeh was completely burnt. I mean almost black in color, too hard to bite and very dry. I realize accidental burning of food may happen but it was still served. I almost never complain even when disappointed. This experience went too far. read more

The food is amazing!!!! Their chai is the best in Lynchburg, it's very flavorful and the consistency is perfect! My boyfriend tried the Turkish cardamom coffee which he loved. I shouldn't have done this, but I went to Al Ryan Mediterranean today to give it a try. It is run by the same guy who ran "All My Favorite Things." That place was in the wrong place but it was also poorly managed. I thought I would give it a chance. We were seated upstairs. After waiting for 45 minutes, and getting up to leave at least once, we were told our sandwiches were ready and we would be getting them in two minutes. All of the tables downstairs that were empty when we came in had people eating already. Needless to say 10 minutes later we were still staring at an empty table. We went down to pay for the drinks. He apologized to us and said the drinks were on the house. Not sure why we were left high and dry for close to an hour. Gave it a try, won't do it again. read more

Al-Ryan provides a wonderful Mediterranean dining experience in downtown Lynchburg. The restaurant has many Middle Eastern favorites, like hummus, baba ghanoush, falafel, shawarma, and baklava. It also has a distinctive Jordanian flare, both in the presence of Mansaf (the national dish of Jordan) on the menu and in its Jordanian section (where diners remove their shoes and enter a carpeted section where they eat while sitting on cushions. I have tried every dish they have to offer and can recommend them all. If you have never had mansaf, you need to try it here. Also the Makloubi Upside Down is fantastic. My daughter loves lentil soup and says that Al-Ryan has the best she's ever had. My favorite way to dine here is to bring family and friends, order a bunch of dishes, and share. read more

Horrible service!!! Will never go back again. The owner is SO rude!! So my friend ordered for me and got mountain dew on accident. When we got there we asked to change it to Pepsi...he said, "no, because I lose money". I ordered the shawarma sandwich with chicken. Well they gave me lamb instead. So that was the first mess up. Today I ordered the same thing and the kebab sandwich with no tomato. We get back open our lunch up and it's both the same thing. They gave us both the shawarma sandwich...but charged me $10.11 and my friend $8.95...so we go back and they are Co fused and don't understand they charged us wrong and the orders were wrong too. He refunds me $1.00 and 10 cents. They he tried to tell us that the kebab is the same as the shawarma sandwich but the chicken is cut differently. Um..NO!! Not true!! Lies!! And I bit down on a piece of chicken bone to top it off. WILL NEVER EAT THERE AGAIN!! read more

I had to decide hard whether to give two stars which can potentially hurt a local business, but in the end, I decided that I need to point out the glaring deficiencies which this establishment is suffering from and thereby giving them a chance to improve. In here, the chef is the owner and he is really not a good cook when it comes to delicate middle eastern dishes which I am very aware of. There is too much oil, bad quality lamb, and overall lack of taste in two entrees my wife and I tried out. The tabbouleh I had for appetizer was sticky from the gluten that came from improperly washed cracked wheat. Only the Turkish coffee was somewhat made well, and the two stars are solely for those reasons. One word of advice if the owner is reading this: please make your menu simpler and do not try to cook something you can't. And focus on fresh ingredients too instead of getting everything from Sam's club's canned food. You shop doesn't even carry a piece a fresh piece of lime. I know it because I asked for it and all I got was some stale juice from some bottle. read more
