Last night was absolutely the greatest experience we've had at a restaurant in a LONG time! The staff, including our fantastic waitress, Stephanie, were above and beyond top-notch! She made sure we didn't order too many sides, came back at all the appropriate moments throughout our dinning experience. My waitress just made this day just so special. She was so incredible to our 9 month old and it was just so amazing. I wish I got her name. What a great ! After traveling all Over for work I ended up at this restaurant ! The service was great and I got the ahi tuna (I know it's a steakhouse but I don't eat steaks often)! It was the best ahi tuna. Tender. Fresh. Cooked lightly to perfection. On top of lovely veggies and a washabi sauce that was lovely. The bread and butter is heavenly Too. The soup of red pepper crab was delicious ! The creamed spinach on the side was a delight. I feel this restaurant is worth every penny. With W&HS being around since 2018, you'd think that they would have their act together, especially with The Virginian's reputation. FOH seemed to struggle with timing, quality and balance, but BOH saved the visit. Food was well prepared, delicious and memorable. Unfortunately, the wine list is monopolized by domestics, with French being a distant second. Food prices are reasonable considering their quality, but could easily be blamed as premium hotel rates. Beverages, particularly the wines, lean towards insane markups. The swanky atmosphere can be thoroughly enjoyed more when tacky customers don't bring their children and treat the visit as a Chuck E. Cheese. Perhaps what allows me to feel better about assigning W&HS with four stars is the live entertainment during our visit & the option to experience the rooftop bar. read more

The food was delicious, our group had everything from lobster to salmon to steak. We ate appetizers of calamari, shrimp cocktail. Delicious and prepared to perfection. Desserts were amazing. The service is top notch at this restaurant. The staff were very attentive and timed their interactions well. Their old fashioned was superb, mixed with port wine and a candied orange made it a step above any old fashioned I've had before. Their salad was excellent with house made dressing. The steaks were cooked to perfection and proportioned perfectly. I chose a side of Brussel sprouts which were oversized and topped with a nice balsamic glaze. My SO had a jumbo baked potato which definitely lived up to its name. Dessert was great as well. I had the chocolate flourless tort. It was topped with fresh blueberries and whipped cream. My SO's dessert, however, was the cheesecake with a raspberry glaze. It was phenomenal. It a had a thick crunchy crust we believe was infused with some nut (perhaps almonds?). It was amazing and truly helped conclude the meal with a delightful taste. The William and Henry steakhouse is located in the Virginian Hotel in lovely downtown Lynchburg. Without a doubt, this is the top quality restaurant in the area. Everything is made with fine procession, and attention to detail. I am very pleased to see that they are open, even with the restricted hours. I usually stay at the Virginian for only one reason, and that is to go to this steakhouse. I enjoy the convenience of being able to walk downstairs and have a fantastic meal. So why, may you ask, is this review only getting four stars? While I clearly feel the food quality is exceptional, and rates five stars, the service, at least during my last visit, is very much below standard. It is hard to give an overall rating of five for a steakhouse experience when the service is lacking. As for the food, there is nothing to complain about. I had a filet mignon which was cooked perfectly with an accompanying béarnaise sauce, which again, was prepared perfectly. This was accompanied by silky smooth mashed potatoes and a wonderful salad. The food is five stars ... no doubt. Now for the service. While our food was delivered on time, every interaction with the waitstaff left my guest and I just staring at each other amazed. He interrupted numerous conversations and also appeared dismissive at times. I don't know if it was just a bad night, but the William and Henry steakhouse is a special occasion steakhouse. Ambience and service are part of the package. I would not be presumptive to suggest that this is everyone's experience or this is routinely occurring. But I can only report on what I experienced. I will absolutely return for another meal. Hopefully I will have an opportunity to update this review with a more favorable comment on the service. In my opinion, this is without a doubt the premier dining option in the Lynchburg area. With some small adjustments, I am quite certain that they will continue to flourish. I said I would the next time, but my business travel to Lynchburg has ended and, while I spent my teenage summers at Lynchburg College, I'll probably never go back to Lynchburg again. So take my review lightly, as fish is not their specialty. I had the sea bass. This was my third time having sea bass and it was exactly how I've had it every time. In conclusion, I am not a fan. It's translucent. And my sea bass was borderline bland. My friend loved the salmon. I didn't try it. It's convenient if you don't want to leave the hotel for dinner. But other restaurants with bigger more interesting menus are in walking distance from the Virginian, which serves as home to this beyond beautiful ala carte restaurant. read more

Steakhouse I'm going to buck the trend here and bring the rating to where I believe it ought to be. Five star anything in Central Virginia has to be taken with a grain of salt - five stars compared to what? The William & Henry steakhouse is, like the Virginian hotel which houses it, brand new. In the culinary desert that is Lynchburg, a modern steakhouse was desperately needed. With that in mind, I was looking forward to the William & Henry opening. Visually appealing when you first walk in and overall a very nice atmosphere for a night out with the significant other or even a business dinner. Done in darker shades, it sets a nice mood. Bar area on the left is mid-sized and manned by very good help - definitely a place to grab a cocktail with friends or while waiting for your group to arrive. Waitstaff is probably the best you will get in the area - there are certainly a few restaurants that have good wait staff but by and large you get untrained temporary help in most places. W&H staff are pretty on the ball and upbeat to be sure. That being said, I was surprised when there was no offers of nightly specials- not sure if they do not have them or just not mentioned. The menu is pretty comprehensive with about a 50-50 split between meat and seafood entrees and apps. There are some salads in there for good measure but beyond that, if you have a member of your party who is not into meats or seafood, you are pretty much out of luck. The meat side of the house has all the standard steak house offerings and to be completely frank, they were just ok. Steaks appears to be cooked maybe one done-ness higher than what was order, so if you asked for medium rare, it came out closer to medium. This seemed to be across all types of meat at our table (we had a larger party) Beyond the done-ness, no one really thought much of the meat overall. To be fair, no one ordered the porterhouse for two or the dry aged steak, so I will have to try those in order to get a better read. Prices were higher than the rest of the area and frankly, I do not care so much about the cost so long as the meal is memorable. The sides are all à la carte, as expected in this type of establishment. The difference here was that the sides could handle maybe three people if sharing so you would have to double up if say you had 6 people. Side themselves were absolutely nothing special at all. Gnocchi with bacon and cheese was meh, creamed spinach was odd and even the whipped potatoes looked processed... not what I would expect for $8 - $9 a pop, and certainly not worthy of a steakhouse. Drinks were adequately sized and priced a little higher than what you would expect. A Manhattan up was $15 for example. Again, I like to drink, and do not mind paying for said drinks, but give then me a $15 drink. Wine list was below average with all the usual suspects. Again, to be fair, this is Lynchburg and I would think you wouldn't want a wine cellar supporting 250 different wines. Essentially a "safe" list of wines that they expect to turn. I did not see nor did I ask if they have a sommelier available. Desserts seemed to be out of the box - one member ordered the Crème brûlée' and another ordered the coconut cow (I think) cake and both looked like they were factory made. I did not try either, so not idea on taste. All in all a very nice place to take a date but it serves middle of the road food. For Lynchburg it is on the higher-end scale of things, but it would never stand a chance against a full-on steakhouse in other parts of the country. I will try it again just to see if the actual steak cuts make the difference and if the cooking was just off on all the steaks we tried that night. Parking is on the street or valet. For dinner you may have to walk a block but it shouldn't be a big deal. read more

Staff is friendly but limited in skills or handling challenges. Ordered quiche, English muffin and some fancy name for potatoes. Everything but the $2.75 toast was old. Sent potatoes back once, they brought out the same potatoes which were cooked days ago and heated up. Quiche was very dry with hard crust on top. Could not eat either. Cannot believe no one checked the quality or freshness of this over priced menu. The wait person was attentive and she tried. Heard her tell the manager and he did nothing. If you're crazy enough to go here be careful not to order pre made items. It cost them one additional night of my stay. Switched hotels. read more

For dinner, we had filets and shared an order of brussel sprouts and they were cooked perfectly. We really enjoyed the atmosphere, service. and the food. Second stop in Lynchburg and loved it. The steak (filet 8oz) is in my top three all time. Phenomenal. Tons of flavor, cooked to perfection and true to size. We opted for two sides to split. We went with corn and whipped potatoes. The corn would have been great, but it was baked with onions and bell peppers. This wasn't on the menu and neither of us are fans of onions. They ended up removing this from the tab since we really didn't eat any of it and, as I said, wasn't listed that way on the menu. The potatoes weren't anything to write home about. Need a lot more flavor and texture wasn't truly "whipped". Ambience and service were on point.
