Einen italienischen Freund hatte ich um eine Empfehlung gebeten und es nicht bereut. Zwar war ich zunächst etwas irritiert ob des unauffälligen Äußeren des Restaurants - so ganz anders als die zahlreichen Touristenlokale der Umgebung - es sollte sich jedoch als Garant erweisen für eine unverfälschte venezianische Essenskultur. Schon das Probe-Essen zwei Tage zuvor war ein Erlebnis der besonderen Art, zumindest für ein deutsches Touristenpaar, das nur wenig Italienisch spricht. Gigi, der Maestro und die Seele des Ganzen, hat uns mit Freude und Geduld zugehört und wertvolle Menü-Tipps gegeben, einschließlich überzeugender Weinempfehlungen. Am Geburtstagsabend übertraf das Menü dann alle unsere Erwartungen. Ein unerwarteter Gruß aus der Küche eröffnete den Abend und machte Lust auf mehr, auf mehr Meer. Dann der Frutti di Mare-Teller! Er war schon rein optisch ein kleines Kunstwerk und vom Geschmack her erst recht. Was für eine Vielfalt an Genüssen, fürs Auge und den Gaumen. Wie gut, dass wir Gigis Rat gefolgt sind und den Pasta-Gang ausgelassen haben. Der Secondo war nämlich die Krönung des Ganzen. Herrlich bunte Gemüsekörbchen um einen butterweichen Wolfsbarsch herum drapiert. Ein Gedicht... dazu ein perfekt passender Wein - und Brot und Wasser sowieso. Die Bedienung aufmerksam und zugewandt - der Maestro immer in Blickweite, um rechtzeitig eigenhändig Wein nachzuschenken. Wir fühlten uns richtig angenommen in diesem doch eher von Einheimischen besuchten kleinen Lokal. Eine schöne Auswahl an Desserts rundete das Ganze ab und Gigi entließ uns rundum zufrieden in die venezianische Volllmond-Nacht. Danke, Gigi, für dieses schöne Erlebnis. Wir kommen gerne wieder. The salad with Buffalo mozzarella was wonderful! Cheese so milky and perfectly paired with the tomatoes. My husband loved his pasta (but wish the pasta was homemade). I ordered the liver because I heard it's a famous Venice dish. I honestly don't like liver much but with the addition of grilled onions, polenta and bread, it was pretty good. The tiramisu was light and delicious way to end the meal. If you can stand the tight space, definitely check this place out!

It's a dim and classy setting with lots of ornate details, a sharp contrast from the busy touristy area downstairs. I was struggling to pick between the 4 acts (16 dishes) and the truffle menu, but it was a good truffle season, and a white truffle tasting back at home would have cost significantly more, plus the server recommended the truffle menu, so we went with that. We started with a blanc de noir and then moved onto a bottle. Markups were higher than we expected for the Italian wines, but a 2015 Barolo, a classic pairing for the white truffle. Amuses: - Roasted artichoke - Sweet cream and herb fried gougere - Vegetable tartare with soy cream The truffle menu - 1. Broccoli raab soup with red onion sorbetto, a parmigiano fundutta, and white truffle. The broccoli raab leaves sort of overpowered the truffle, but without the leaves, you could taste the truffle with just the soup 2. Soft corn bruschetta with beef tartare and white truffle and white truffle mayo. This was a lot of beef (which I love) and a great way to bring out the truffle 3. Fettuccini with white hare sauce, mushrooms, and white truffle, brodo on the side - a classic fall white truffle pasta dish 4. Venetian "murrina" poached egg with white truffle, with colorful sauces of pumpkin, parmigiano, spinach, beet root. It was rich but light at the same time. There was a ribeye option, but I wanted the classic pairing with the soft egg 5. Pomegranate jelly, hibiscus and ginger juice, rose sorbetto 6. Tarte tatin with white truffle gelato - straight up truffle ice cream with shaved white truffle on top. It came with an apple tart with and an apple caramel cream with truffle jus, but the ice cream was the true highlight for me. Honestly, after seeing the 4 acts of 16-course that many other tables near us opted for, I had a bit of regret because I think I would have preferred smaller portions if more dishes. I mean you never really regret white truffle, but it would have been nice to try more variety. I didn't have high expectations for fancy meals in Venice since it's so tourist heavy, but no regrets on Ristorante Quadri, but I don't regret the choice. Prices are definitely up there compared to other parts of Italy.

We chose this restaurant walking by and looked at the menu displayed outside. No photos on the menu so it's not a tourist trap! You start with a complimentary aperitif of local cuttlefish and a puff. Both very light and refreshing even on a rainy damp day. Appeetizer we picked the egg yolk with asparagus and chicken giblets with brioche. I don't remember the name of it. But it was lovely. Rich and yolky, but not runny and drippy. The chicken giblets were perfectly cooked and paired very well with the scoop of the sauce and yolk. The homemade taglioni with black truffle pasta is worth the 30 minute walk from the train station. My friend and I split the dish and they were so kind to bring 2 plates with half portions! The pasta is so flavorful with the clean and dreamy butter sauce that perfectly complement the oo's and ahh's of the black truffle shaved tableside. I want that flavor to linger for days! The octopus with yellow foie mousse hit the spot as well. Octopus was tender, and then tentacles grilled i think to give it a second texture. Either way, it was delicious. I heard the other table get dessert and was able to ask about the dessert called "idea of tiramisu 2.0" It gets served tableside with espresso freshly poured onto the pastry and it floofs right in front of you. fresh cold mascarpone cheese gets placed on and you need a little bit of everything on the spoon for the perfect bite.
