I've come in over the last few years for routine cleanings and I appreciate how quick and easy it is to book online, their availability and how quick and efficient everything is! They take my insurance (Delta Dental) and parking is in the building and they validate. I've had Marilyn clean my teeth a few times and they're alway squeaky clean after. Last night I had accidentally flossed out an old filling so I had to make an appointment to get it fixed. Dr Chen was my dentist and even though I was running late, they were still able to get me in and complete the filling and I was on my way! It had to be the fastest filling I ever had with the x-rays and filling done within 45 minutes! I got there at 2:20pm and was out before 3pm! The numbing wore off after a few hours and I don't feel any discomfort. I also only paid about $118 for the filling and x-rays after my insurance. Dr Chen was really nice and checked to make sure I was doing okay and again was extremely quick and efficient. Some people don't like the clinical nature of this office but I love it! I recommend all of my friends, coworkers and family to come here! read more

I called your office because I received a statement requesting payment of a balance that I do not understand. I have not been to your office for a long time, so I was simply trying to find out what this balance was for and why I am now being asked to pay it. I spoke with a representative named Arjun. Unfortunately, while I was still explaining my concern and had not finished speaking, he disconnected the call. This happened **twice** during my attempts to get an explanation regarding my account. I found this behavior extremely frustrating and unprofessional. As a patient/customer, I believe I deserve to be treated with courtesy and respect, especially when I am calling to ask a legitimate question about a bill. I respectfully ask management to review this interaction and address the matter appropriately. I also strongly recommend that the representative receive additional **customer-service and communication training**. If someone is working directly with patients and customers, they should understand the importance of listening, allowing the customer to finish explaining their concern, and communicating respectfully. If appropriate, management should also evaluate whether this type of customer-service position is suitable for him. My concern is not only about my personal experience. Patients and customers should be treated with professionalism, patience, and respect whenever they contact your office. I would appreciate having a manager or billing representative contact me directly regarding both the billing issue and my complaint about the customer-service experience. We were in vacation in Hawaii and I woke up one morning and realized a temporary filling I had gotten was gone! I was really worried as we were leaving g in a cruise in two days, so I looked up emergency dentists and Ala Moana Dental Care showed close to us. I called and the receptionist was very caring and got me in within a couple hours! I arrived and checked in and everyone from the reception to the staff and dentist were so nice! I really hate to have to write this review but I feel it's important to warn others. I have been a patient here for over 10 years. I have always enjoyed my experiences as well. However, I was having some gum issues which prompted me to make an appointment about it. I seen the Dr twice about my bleeding gums and not once did they recommend me see a specialist. It wasn't until I told them that I was having pain in the back of my gum that they finally referred me to a periodontist. When I seen the periodontist, within 10 mins he told me I have periodontist disease! He said it's not something that happens over night, it takes years to develop and somehow my dentist missed it! Mind you I go every 6 months for cleanings and was showing signs of bleeding gums and not one dr I seen noticed it. I am now having to pay almost 4K out of pocket to get a deep cleaning done. This is something that could have been prevented but because of the negligence I will not be returning here. read more

The silver lining: they did their job. I came here for a routine cleaning and was treated very much like a number in line. It's not that the front staff were particularly unpleasant or rude, it was just a lack of being treated like a person. Im sure patient fatigue sets in from time to time because they cycle through so many people in one day, and front desk people are still people so I didn't pay too much mind to the lack of eye contact or general pleasantries. Name called, time to go back. The dental assistant guiding me was lovely, a very sweet girl. She made me feel comfortable despite my lifelong disdain for dentist offices and constant discomfort of presently being in one. She instructed me where to place my things and had me sit in the chair to wait for the dentist. The actual dentist was... awfully awkward and judgmental upon first impression. He questioned my piercings, and didn't hide his disgust at my tongue ring. He had the nerve to mumble, "how do you even clean this?" I felt embarrassed and couldn't answer due to the fact he was literally cleaning my teeth at the time of asking. So yeah I was in a vulnerable state. It made me feel gross? I take pretty good care of my piercings and change my jewelry periodically. Yes I brush my tongue piercing when I brush my teeth and I know the hygienic risks before I got the piercing. I have had it for years and no other dentist ever made me feel... judged for it. Anyway, my teeth were in good shape. Very clean. Still, very bad experience. 10/10 not going back there. I just got my teeth cleaned today and the staff is always so nice and efficient! They communicate with eachother well and with the patient too! I had a cleaning today by a very happy and kind lady, I think her name was Shannon or Sharon. She made me feel very safe and not nervous before, during and after the cleaning. We were joking around about me getting a sticky hand after the appointment due to my teeth being well kept. I went home and opened the bag with the toothbrush and toothpaste in it to find a cute cow toy that I had no clue she had put in there! It was a surprise and a small gesture but it made my day! I left this dentist office due to the lack of care I received from my last dental cleaning. My last scheduled visit was over a year ago and it was one of the worst visits in my entire adult life. I usually like this place since they have super early time slots available. Unfortunately, I had the worst luck of the draw and had the girl staff member with the worst attitude and bedside manners. Not only did she not ask if I was okay during my visit - she kept digging into my gums to the point where they were so inflamed and bloody that my teeth were still covered in blood (still bleeding) after my final rinse. Gums were definitely pulsating/ aching the entire day. She then had the audacity to tell me all the negative things that I don't do to take care of my teeth. I hope the office let her go because her and her attitude definitely does not belong in this industry. I was researching different dental cleaning options and Ala Moana Dental Care offers to do a dental cleaning, X-rays, and an exam for $125. The receptionist was patient and kind over the phone when I asked different questions, and was able to book an appointment for me the next day (originally a slot was open the same day I called but I was not able to make it). They have a parking garage with validated parking, and if you have an early appointment like mine at 6am, they said that you can call them to open the garage and the building door for you. The check-in and overall process moved pretty efficiently, and the dental hygienist Rachel, took good care of my teeth. My one note is that when it came time for me to ask the dentist questions, I didn't feel like we got to go in-depth and some of the answers were still unclear to me. I'm not sure if it's because the office receives a high volume of patients or how many dentists there are per shift, but I do prefer a more thorough review of the health of my teeth and gums by going over the X-rays and being able to sit down and talk through the exam with the dentist. Overall, my experience was that this is one of the more affordable options for the services I had an appointment for, the overall customer service was pretty good, and the dental exam review was very brief. read more

Dr Deveraux checked my problem tooth he is a nice doctor, explained to me the issue and plan. Dr Madich did the tooth extraction and made sure that I dont feel any pain. I've been coming here for years, but I was recently notified of a policy change that feels truly shocking. If you cancel more than 24 hours in advance, they'll still charge you if they can't fill the appointment with someone else. What happens if you sick and take make the appointment? I'm guessing you get charged... On top of that, the front office staff seems to change constantly, and with every visit there's a noticeable loss of empathy and consistency. I've been coming here for several years now as my work insurance covers cleanings and x-rays here. It's easy to get to as it's at Ala Moana basically next to the mall so plenty of parking all over the place or there's paid parking at their building which you can validate. For the most part my experiences have been as pleasant as they can be for a dentist's office. I never have any serious teeth issues so routine cleanings and go. The staff have always been really nice to me and everyone is very professional. Overall, I recommend this place. I don't know what other people are doing that they've had such negative experiences, but I've always had good service here. read more

I've been here about 5 times for check up/cleanings. The prices have continuously gone up but the quality of service has not. Only ONE time did I feel the service was adequate, the hygienist actually did well. It's a little embarrassing to admit, but I do have a bit of plaque in one small section. But all of my visits except for the one, left plaque. The one hygienist got everything. However, I was too lazy to find a new dental office even though my insurance doesn't cover this one. I'm writing a review now, because I just went today and it was by far the worst visit I've ever had. The hygienist was a man around 30-45 (I'm not too good at estimating ages). He was rushing, he scraped towards my gums, he water flossed ON my gums, he scraped about 3 teeth and didn't even TOUCH the area that has plaque. He also roughly flossed BEFORE brushing, and his "flossing" is pushing the floss between all my teeth and not the gums. Even the brushing, was so sloppy. He missed SO many areas and it was just so lazy. It seems he just wanted to be done faster. Absolutely the worst experience I've ever had at the dentist, and the receptionist just said she won't assign that hygienist to me next time. I wish I asked if there was a different one available at that moment to actually do the job the other one couldn't. Instead, I paid $124 for some man to bruise my gums and pretend to clean my teeth. I have been going to this dental clinic (and taking my elderly parents there) for about 4 years now. I am very happy with the care we receive. The clinic is a bit "assembly line" but that's okay, I'm not looking to hang out and chat about the weather anyway. The pricing is reasonable, a bit less than I was paying previously. And in my experience they don't try to sell you dental work you don't need - in fact, they told me I didn't need some of the work another dentist insisted I had to have! I appreciate the honesty. Staff is very helpful and courteous and convenient appointments are always available if you're not insistent about a specific doctor. They do a great job with the cleanings and you get a free toothbrush, small dental floss and toothpaste. Staff is nice, the patient rooms for cleanings could definitely use color or graphics. I'm in a market for a more chemical free dentist but this was a great place to get caught up on my cleanings. Do not go here unless you want your tooth extracted! Over the last year I had 2 root canals done here by 2 different dentists. Unfortunately both root canals failed! I ended up having one tooth extracted because I did not have the money at the time to have a retreatment by an endodontist. The second one I decided to have it retreated by an endodontist since I did not want to have 2 missing molars. I told the dentist at Ala Moana Dental Care that I am worried about the additional cost and he told me not to worry, if I get it retreated, by one of their recommended specialists, they will refund me my $500 I had to pay out of pocket so I won't have this financial burden on me. Well, I got the tooth retreated which was another $700 out of pocket, but I was only refunded $135. When I called, one person told me, yes I should get the entire copay refunded and another one told me the $135 is the out of pocket for the root canal and the rest was for the crown but they will forward this to billing who will take a look at it. This very misleading since it sounded like they would refund my entire copay which would be a financial relief compared to only a $135 refund. I called the office now 5 times over the last 2 months and everytime I am being told that billing will call me back and needless to say I have not received a call back! This is extremely disappointing and stressful because now I have a missing tooth and am dealing with this financial burden. I really regret going here and wonder if i would've went to a different office if I still would have my one tooth and wouldn't needed a retreatment on the other one. I want to add that everyone is super nice in this office but this will not relief my financial worries I have now or give me my tooth back. read more

Tbh, I was annoyed on this business coz they keep sending us junk mails. Like, give us a break people! And I am still annoyed on that part even until now... But on the other hand, I am grateful and satisfied on their service. Came here for the first time for my prophylaxis cleaning appointment. Damon from the front desk welcomed me in an efficient way. Love the professionalism! Fill-up the form using the tablet and t'was serviceable. After waiting for 10mins. Angela came out and guided me to the room where she did my x-rays. She's the most adorable and friendly young lady. She made sure that I won't feel awkward. Love her presence. Then Dr. Mandich did a swift checkup on my teeth ask me any questions and etc. it only took him a minute then he's out (full house I guess). The I was handed to the hygienist, Lorie, I love her the most coz she is so friendly and caring at the same time a socialite person when she talks. Love her humor and love how she explain things to me. I would definitely love her to clean my teeth next time. My experience was warmth. After the procedure Lorie gave me the kit and answered few of my questions diligently. Fast and great customer service - recommended for sure. Dr Christine was great ... along w all the staff. I needed help asap and they had 14 people waiting on January 1st - 1st yes they were open and kind on the phone but I had to wait. However they offered to see me at 6am on the January 2nd I was in horrible pain as we all know dental pain is the worst!!! They saw me and unfortunately my tooth was not repairable but it's in the back so no loss ! She said they could try to and let me know costs etc. I appreciated honesty & no BS. She did extraction which was professional/ clean quick! Clear directions on my care & I am healing well. The only criticism is that the floors need a good cleaning----the rest of the place is super sanitary I went to another dentist 2 weeks earlier and he told me I had tmj- when in fact this tooth was cracked . I'm very disappointed with the way Ala Moana Dental Care handles scheduling. A week ago, they asked me to reschedule my appointment. I agreed and showed up at the newly scheduled time, only to be told--without any prior notice--that my appointment had been moved another 2.5 hours later due to a "system error." This is the second time I've experienced such a system issue with them. What's especially frustrating is that they enforce a strict 24-hour cancellation policy for patients, with penalties, but don't hold themselves to the same standard. Instead of taking responsibility, they told me they couldn't "squeeze me in"--as if the problem was mine. Very poor communication and accountability. Patients deserve better. read more

My wife recently received a certified letter from Ala Moana Dental Care informing her that they would no longer provide services to her -- a clear act of retaliation after she left an honest review describing her experience. That review wasn't unsolicited; it was submitted in response to an email from the clinic itself requesting feedback. Here's what actually happened: A root canal performed at this clinic was done incorrectly, and my wife was referred to a nearby endodontist to correct it. While suffering from significant swelling and radiating pain, she requested pain medication. Instead of showing empathy, Justin, a staff member, made inappropriate and humiliating comments in the lobby -- in front of other patients -- implying that she might be drug-seeking. The dentist ultimately prescribed the medication, which clearly showed that Justin was not qualified to make such a judgment. Initially, the complaint about Justin's behavior was brought to Chad, but it was brushed off. After the endodontist corrected the failed procedure, we made a verbal complaint again -- this time directly to another office manager, Crystal, who we believed would take the issue seriously. We were told it would be handled. However, nothing was resolved -- and instead, we later received a certified letter terminating her care. This clinic appears to be focused only on maintaining positive online reviews and is unwilling to tolerate honest feedback about negative experiences. Patients who speak up -- even when prompted to do so -- may find themselves cut off from care. We are currently awaiting a response from Chad, as we've seen him reply to other reviews here. We welcome an apology and a genuine effort to right this wrong. If Chad chooses not to respond, that silence will only further validate and solidify our concerns. HORRIBLE! Would not recommend. We went there today and the dentist DR. Komenaka was rushing, didn't wait for my son's mouth to be numbed to extract an adult tooth and was very rough and aggressive! My son has had a lot of dental work done the last few weeks due to some unfortunate situations but has not once cried getting numbed. He balled his eyes out and then as the doctor was yanking the tooth yet the doctor didn't stop at all. Gave the shots VERY FAST and was very rough. No sympathy. And if you had known what we had been through the last few weeks (this doc did) you would understand. They also had a staff meeting and were running behind so they almost didn't see us. But my son needed this procedure so the infection that he's been dealing with for 3 weeks would finally go away. I am highly disappointed. **edit no one has yet to call and check on my son after the procedure. It's been 3 weeks. Not standard practice for any dentist. After many years coming to this clinic, its services turned to worse. My last visit was so bad that dental hygienists only skimmed through my teeth and wasn't thorough at all. After hygiene, a female doctor came and talked to hygienist behind my head, didn't even sit next me and take look at my teeth nor even talked to me face to face, and left. By the time after hygienist removed the bib and I got up in bed, dentist was gone. I really felt like just another number.
