The office is small, quiet, clean. The front desk person has always been fantastic: friendly, engaged, and helpful. Both hygienists I have seen were good at what they do, not peachy about my lack of consistent flossing, and made for a good visit. Yes, yes, I know flossing is important. Dr. Takenishi is super personable. He's efficient while also providing entertaining conversation. I leave feeling good about the care I've received and my plan for keeping my teeth. Dr. Wade is the best dentist and has restored a lot of my teeth! He is super gentle and I can never feel when he anesthetizes the area of my tooth. Becca does a great job in reminding and scheduling appts for myself and children. I recently came in for a same day crown. I was welcomed by very sweet assistant Aurora who explained the crown procedure every step of the way and was very efficient. This office is great in keeping up with digital dentistry - my crown was perfect and ready in 2 hours. No temporary or 2nd appointment to come back. Also my teenager is almost done with his clear aligner treatment and my toddler loves coming to his routine check up. The office staff is all very friendly and caring. I am literally so happy I got referred to Dr. Takenishi! The staff is always so welcoming and happily answers any of my questions. The building is in a good area and parking is never a hassle. Their offices are really clean and I always feel comfortable when I am there for an appointment (the TVs are a plus too). They make their crowns in-house so getting one only takes one appointment! I hadn't been to the dentist in a really long time and after my first appointment two weeks ago, a lot of my anxiety went away because they didn't make me feel bad about anything. Excellent experience at Dr Wade Takenishi's office today! I was referred here as a new patient by my fellow pharmacist colleagues and I am absolutely glad I made the decision. They have two offices in the Interstate Building on King Street with ample parking which they do validation. Great central town location. The intake process (done via online forms) was at my convenience with easy and clear instructions. When I entered the hygiene office, Junko was absolutely sweet, welcoming, and I appreciate their COVID precautions which helps protect everyone! Xiao completed my X-rays/exam and cleaning and she was so thorough, professional, and kept me engaged throughout the whole process! Dr Wade reviewed my plan and he was kind, engaging, and very knowledgeable. Lastly, they were able to squeeze me in for a mouth scan for Invisalign work up in their partner office down the hall. RANT: I was about to write a review about Dr. Wade when I came upon this review by Victoria S. and felt compelled to respond to her review of Dr. Wade and his staff. It's unfortunate that Yelp allows reviews from people like Victoria S's on 6/19/19. You would expect that when you need a medical procedure, the doctor would do a thorough examination and then tell you what needs to be done and the cost. I for one would be terrified if I could phone in a self diagnosis and a doctor offered a price for the procedure. I would venture to guess that no two mouths or their conditions are the same. Why would you want a range when you can get a free examination and the exact cost for your specific situation? You can get a range off the internet, why would you call for a range? By your own admission you said costs are pretty set. When it comes to medical issues, self diagnosis is a tenuous road to travel. How do you know your damaged tooth may not have required some other treatment? What I don't understand, if you go to a dentist regularly, why didn't your dentist give you referrals? That would have saved you sometime, since you have a rigorous work schedule. In case you didn't know, anyone that does an honest day of work has a rigorous schedule. Reviews should used as a tool to help others to make an informed decision to acquire the goods and services they seek. Not to bash businesses when you never patronized the establishment. You never even set foot through the front door FOR FREE to get the answer to your price question. Yet you cry foul and a 1 Star review that has absolutely nothing to do with Dr. Wade's skill or his staff as medical professionals. You remind me of restaurant reviewers that leave 1 Star reviews when they couldn't get a reservation on the day they want. It's disingenuous to accuse Dr. Wade of not being transparent and malign his practice when you were offered FREE consultative services to assess your situation. REVIEW: If you are looking for quality cosmetic procedures done to yourself, I wouldn't be price shopping like people do at Walmart or Sam's Club to find a doctor. Look at all the botched celebrity dental work, botox, facelifts on the internet. You can be sure they paid a lot and still didn't get the results they wanted. The point being, price shouldn't be the determinant for good cosmetic work. Skill should be. Skill is what Dr. Wade has, excellent skills to be exact. Dr. Wade possesses a whole slew of them. His whole office is a fist class practice. From checking in, to the first consultation, to the final procedure, to bill payment, smooth as silk. I remember on my first visit, Dr. Wade took the time to explain all the different options available and makes recommendations but ultimately let you make the choice. No high pressure, no up selling of unnecessary procedures. The cosmetic work that i had done was virtually painless. He and his assistant Momi were always cognizant of your comfort throughout the procedure. During the procedure they would explain what they were doing and asked if there were questions. Dr. Wade also has an in house lab, so any adjustments can be done on site. I would be remiss, if I didn't mention the other staff, Junko, Whitney, Karen, Moana should make this practice your go to place for dentistry. These are genuinely caring and wonderful people. For the two years Dr. Wade's been my dentist, the level of service I have received from his practice has never been less that excellent. I called Dr. Takenishi's office to get a ball-park estimate of composite vs. porcelain verneers a to fix a damaged tooth to see if either would be anything I could afford. His staff refused to give me any kind of estimate and insisted I come in for a consultation. I have a pretty rigorous work schedule, so before I take leave I just want to ensure it's in the range I can even consider the procedure. The procedure is not covered by insurance, so the cost range is pretty set, yet Dr. Takenishi runs his office policies with a lack of transparency and prefers to play games with potential clients. Not interested. Dr. Takenishi, an estimate is an approximate value of the work, and generally comes in the form of a price range since procedures are custom and can vary. Additionally, it is an estimate, not a promise of cost. Many industries can provide estimates of the work they perform to help people budget and plan. Other dentists on Oahu and in other parts of the U.S. are able to provide estimates, so your inability to is simply an unwillingness to be transparent. You are not the only dentist, so no loss to me. I recommend you reconsider your policies for your own sake. read more

I love everyone in this office! I don't know of anyone who would say that they don't mind seeing their dentist, even for a check up. However, if you need to see a dentist I would wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Takenishi. He is very professional and thorough with his explanations of any procedure that he recommends. I've had several procedures done and have been very satisfied. They will always go over any charges and insurance coverage before scheduling a procedure. His staff are all so friendly, always so welcoming. I always look forward to catching up with them. His hygienist, Abby, is the greatest! I've been avoiding the dentist for years out of fear and anxiety due to some not so great experiences. In fact, before today, I'd only been to the dentist twice in the last 6-7 years. BUT, my experience at Dr. Takenishi's office today changed everything. My hygenist was very warm, always checked-in with me to see how I was doing, and actually took the time to speak with me about what she was seeing/doing. Dr. Takenishi was the same way. And even though I have some issues we'll be working to address in the coming weeks, they always shared with me the positives and it made a huge difference. I recently went in to get my teeth cleaned. I like to get them cleaned every quarter because of my dental implant. My hygienist, Moana(sp?) was very thorough and did an excellent job in a timely manner. What I thought was great is that she let me know everything she was going to do prior to her doing it. As a new patient, I feel that Dr. Wade and staff did awesome with my visits. Pretty smooth sailing the whole way through. For my deep cleaning, my hygienist was informative and it was easy to get through. I'm leaving two stars because his staff is friendly and his services are appropriate. You'll get quality dental work here. That being said, I believe Dr. Takenishi to be narrow-minded and frankly unprofessional. Unfortunately I needed a lot of dental work done, including the major procedures of root canals and crown placements. The cost was a big shock to me, as I cared about my health but could hardly afford it. I needed a second opinion. With COVID and everything going on the last two years, it's surprising that he could be so insensitive to a situation like mine. After seeing him for his opinion on a tooth that had gotten worse, he informed me that getting multiple opinions was frowned upon and highly discouraged in his practice. He encouraged me to find someone I would be satisfied with both with cost and performance. While I respect Dr. Takenishi's point, I disagree and felt completely invalidated. I did trust his work, and like everyone else, doing the best I could to take care of myself in the situation I was in. A second opinion, or even a third or fourth opinion, should not be frowned upon by an informed professional. Additionally, I've witnessed unprovoked and unnecessary passive-aggression toward his staff. In one instance, his assistant was having trouble finding the correct image file. Just before she clicked the correct one he snapped and yelped "Right there!" He got frustrated on another occasion for an assistant handing him the wrong tools. Everyone makes mistakes and no one was hurt, but I guess that's another thing this dentist doesn't understand. The way he spoke to not only his staff, but also me as a patient, was extremely uncomfortable. I'll take his advice and find someone more patient and considerate. This dentist office is the BEST. In the past, I've had really bad experiences with dentists. I even lost a tooth because of a dentist's mistake. So it was hard for me to trust another one. Dr. Takenishi's staff was so accommodating from the start. Being a new patient, I thought I'd have wait for a month or two before I could get an appointment. But I was wrong! They were able to take me in that week because of a cancellation. Within two weeks I had my teeth cleaned and had a temporary filing replaced (a procedure that I had put off for two years). All pain free! Plus the staff and Dr. Takenishi makes you feel like you're part of their family. They're really genuinely nice people. So hard to find nowadays. I'm actually looking forward to my next appointment! Parking is easy and validated. Wait time once you walk in the office is five minutes or less. My procedures were proffesionally done and to my satisfaction (and did I mention pain free?). After going to what must be the worst dentist on the island (I used a "Best Of" list in Honolulu Magazine - and didn't also check Yelp - big mistake) we found Dr Wade. From worst to best! Dr Wade is great. I had some gnarly work to do and didn't relish the prospect of pain. Dr Wade said there would be none, and he kept the promise. On several occasions he asked if I was feeling any pain, and reminded me I shouldn't feel anything. He made my crowns on-site, so there was no temporary crown stage. He explained everything he planned to do and why, and involved me in the process. Just got back from my visit to Dr. Takenishi. I unfortunately cracked my front tooth and needed it fixed ASAP! A front tooth is incredibly important! I looked extensively online and through yelp came across Dr. Takenishi. I decided to send an email to them to inquire about and appointment because they were closed. Surprisingly he called me back on his day off a couple hours after I sent the email. Even offering to come in the next day on his day off when his practice is closed! I decided it could wait a day and he told me his receptionist would contact me the next day. She called very promptly, but I missed the call and called her back. They got me in the next day (which was perfect), but I'm sure they could have gotten me in that day if I answered the phone... They sent me all the new patient paperwork online so I didn't have to waste time when I got there. I get to my appointment and they were all ready for me. No wait. Doc takes a look and they tell me the plan, cost, and get to numbing me up. It was the best shot I've had. No pain! I couldn't even feel it. They get to work and before I know it it's done. No more broken tooth! I can smile again! The work was excellent! Thank you Doctor Wayde Takenishi and staff! All of you were incredible! I am seriously thInking about switching my dentist. What can I say, It's been an absolute blessing to have found this office. Moving, especially temporarily, anywhere is downright exhausting. Having to re-find your doctors are just a pain. Nonetheless, when you are able to make those genuine connections with those that are honestly there to take care of you, that unfolds to an everlasting relationship. Dr Wade and his ever caring team have been the epitome of professionalism. They have my teeth leaving squeaky clean along with recommendations that are truthful and with genuine concern, and not there just to take away my money. Sometimes dentists always jump to the very worst outcome from the get-go making for quite large expenses and perhaps decisions that need more thought. My favorite dentist office and best dental experiences I have ever had. Dr. Takenishi and his staff always make my dental visits pleasant and enjoyable. Very professional, caring and friendly staff that I am always happy to see. Appointments are easy to make and are confirmed by phone and text messages. The front desk staff are friendly and help me with all of my questions and needs before, after and during my visits. Parking is very convenient in the Easy Music Center/Interstate building with validation, just remember to give them your ticket for stamps. The office is very clean,bright and hygienic. With massage chairs, personal TVs and the awesome music playing in the background, you sometimes forget you're at the dentist. I visit the office every six months or so for a cleaning and every experience is always amazing. The hygienists are very thorough, caring and accommodating. X-rays are quick and efficient, cleaning is as pain free as it can get and they keep me informed of any possible problems I may have. Dr. Takenishi is an exceptional dentist, he is very detail oriented, friendly and professional. My two front teeth were chipped and he fixed that with ease, I couldn't be happier with the results. People don't normally enjoy visits to the dentist, but I certainly do! Dr Takenishi and his staff are so awesome! They're friendly and caring, always asking about my family, any future trips, etc. Recently the office under went some renovations. There is a TV you can watch in the exam rooms and they give you tinted eye protection to avoid any debris or awkward eye contact. Dr. Takenishi explains everything in a way where it's easy to understand and he gives you solid advice on whats best for your dental needs without upselling anything. Every procedure has been painless and, unlike some other dentists I've previously encountered, the equipment they use appear to be modern and top notch. The parking situation can sometimes be a pain but if you schedule your appointment at the right time, there will be plenty. Moved back on island and so glad to be back here! I have been going to Dr. Wade for more than a decade now and have referred all my friends and family. The office is extremely hygienic, staff is always professional, and Dr. Wade has a comfortable demeanor plus really gentle hands, so when it comes to getting any work done, he makes you feel at ease. Recently, I went for a visit post covid and they came out in literal space suits for covid safety precautions, including having special filters installed at every station for the patients safety. They also have appointments staggered so that there are minimal patients at one time in the office. As far as standard cleanings and dental work like fillings, I've always been impressed with the work and service here but I just had my first cosmetic work done for a couple of chipped teeth in the front and I thought I was doomed for life. Without any major work having to be done Dr.Wade worked his crazy magic and I am beyond amazed with the outcome! Everytime I look in the mirror I still can't believe how good of a job Dr.Wade did. Comfortable chairs (very important to me). The chairs have a gentle massage going on that helps ease any dental anxiety. You're able to enjoy watching TV while in the chair or in the waiting area. Don't hesitate to ask if you can change the channel, if they haven't already asked you (they usually ask). From the front desk to the hygienist, staff members are very personable and helpful. It's obvious that all of them enjoy working there. Dr. Wade has a good sense of humor and can put up with terrible patients like myself. Can tell he is a very competent dentist. The staff here were super friendly and extremely helpful. I wanted an early morning appointment but they couldn't fit me in. So I reluctantly booked the later time. When a cancellation occurred Tatiana called me asking if I'd wanted to come in earlier which worked out for my schedule perfectly. She did not have to call I was already coming in later but the fact that she did made my day. Not to mention I had no idea who my dental insurance company was, but all Tatiana needed was my name and information and she found everything for me, I was good to go. I'm not good about going to the dentist, and it didn't help that I went to a bad one a year ago after several years "off." My experience today at Dr. Takenishi's office was such a relief. Total professionals. The dental hygenists took their time and did the work, but I don't feel all sore after. They also do an oral cancer screening that I never knew was even a thing. Dr. Takenishi is very friendly, and he also took time to go over my x-rays with me. I went to see Dr. Wade Takenishi for a veneer consultation. During this visit, I was disappointed to hear that I was not a good candidate for this procedure. Even though this wasn't the news I was hoping for, I had a wonderful and informative visit. Dr. Wade explained in great detail to me why veneers were not the best choice for me, informed me that I was welcome to get a second opinion, and answered fully several questions I had about further options and treatment for my particular case. I was told that seeing an orthodontist may be the best option for me to explore. A referral to an orthodontist Dr. Wade recommended was submitted on my behalf and the receptionist even offered to call and schedule an appointment for me. I was seen initially about 20-25 minutes after my appointment time which contributed to my rating of 4-stars but both Dr. Wade and the receptionist both apologized for this which was nice. Some places don't even acknowledge when you are seen late. Also, the location was easy to find and parking is validated in the garage attached to the building. I would love to see Dr. Wade again at some point in the future. read more

I've been a patient of Dr. Takenishi for awhile now, although I'll admit, not a good one. I have a super busy schedule and haven't been good at doing regular cleanings, etc. The whole staff is very nice and the office has a really friendly vibe. Years ago I had a really painful toothache, I think the week of Christmas, and Dr. Takenishi saw me right away. I needed a root canal :(. The root canal went as good as a root canal could go, considering it's the LAST thing anyone wants to do! Dr. Wade is really gentle with the novocaine shot, which is the worst part of having dental work, am I right? More recently, I went for a cleaning and the office had been renovated since my last visit. They've added updated equipment and TVs to watch while they work on you now (to keep you distracted, I'm sure). My hygienist was Bri - super cute and sweet. She explained everything she was doing and makes you feel very comfortable. At that visit they also found a crack in my tooth :( and they recommended a crown. When I went back to take care of it, it was fast and "easy" and they make the crown there in the office now so you don't have to make a return visit.
