Finally stopped in here after YEARS of overlooking it. The prices here are incredible, the staff super friendly, and tons of cool Middle Eastern grocery items to peruse. The best part is their deli counter, where you can order sandwiches, grape leaves, hand pies, spreads, etc. We loved the baba ganoush, spinach pie, and chicken shawarma sandwich (more curry-forward than other shawarma I've had in the area). Their falafel is also very good. We're excited to try more of their offerings. Drop by when you're in the area, you won't regret it! read more

I come here regularly for Greek/Mediterranean/Arabic food and it never disappoints! A great family-owned business with very reasonable prices. This past week, we ordered a larger volume of food a few days ahead of time from the deli counter for my son's graduation party and people kept complimenting the food and asking who catered it. People especially loved the falafel (they recently improved the recipe and the falafel was great--crisp on the outside and perfectly soft on the inside), chicken shawarma, stuffed grape leaves and baba ganoush, but really, everything's so tasty! Probably the best place to shop if you're looking strictly for Middle Eastern goods. I replenish my supply of Turkish coffee here. They also have a great deli counter with meat and spinach pies, samosas, soft cheeses, deserts, and salads (e.g. tabouli and baba ganoush) Aladdin's Market is near the corner of Packard and Platt, which I guess is the epicenter of ethnic grocery shopping in Ann Arbor. There are other shops nearby that have produce and halal meat. If you are cooking Middle-Eastern-style, you should be able to get everything in one trip. read more

Loved it here! Came here for tahini (basically half the price here vs. what they sell at Kroger), stocked up on some kabsa spice, rosewater, and basmati. Left happy. Have you always wanted to find a place that offered more than 2 kinds of lame supermarket pita bread? This is the place! They have at least half a dozen varieties, from small rounds to big whole wheat ones. I love Aladdin's market. In addition to the pita breads, they also sell spices in bulk at great prices, along with other supplies for making Middle Eastern fare. The best part for me, though, is the deli food. It's good and inexpensive. I love their spinach pies, the hummus and baba ganoush, and the choice of half a dozen different kinds of feta cheese. They also offer baklava and other sweets, including a rich, moist chocolate cake that is to die for. read more

Aladdin's is a good mid-size grocery with clean, organized shelves full of quality products that are very fairly priced. You know that fig spread at Whole Foods that sells for like $5/jar and tastes heavenly paired with blue cheese or stirred into yogurt? Aladdin's has about half a dozen different brands on the shelf and most of them cost half as much. There's also a great selection of teas, candies, ghee, halva, canned goods, etc. There's also a few ibriks on the shelf for Turkish coffee lovers. It's a shame that this place only has 4 (now 5) reviews, because it is seriously the best and best kept secret of the area. Items here aren't dirt cheap, but they aren't expensive or over-priced and they are for the most part high-quality imports that are better and cheaper than their Whole Foods counterparts. If you're cooking middle eastern or mediterranian, there is nothing this place doesn't have for you, and if you want some european food there is a decent selection of goods as well. After five or so visits, I'm still not sure if the people there speak english or not, but I don't care, because this place is amazing. The best kalamata olives in the city - nice wine flavor. Bulgarian feta - very creamy. Baba Ganouj - smoky and light textured. Grape leaves - firm and lemony. Special spices here, loomi (smoked dried limes) and kabseh spice mix. So many good things to eat and well priced. The owners are friendly and help you learn about the exotic items they carry. Simply fill your basket from the deli and you do not have to make any appetizers for a party. There is even Turkish Delight for C.S. Lewis fans. read more

Not the biggest middle eastern grocery in town, but my favorite to shop at nonetheless. You'll find most of the essential ingredients for mediterranean cooking here at very good prices. There is a very small meat counter whose offerings include cubed chicken breast--saves a step when making shawarma at home. One look at the deli counter makes you want to taste everything in it, which I actually hope to do eventually. The fatoush is excellent, as are the tabouli and the tahini salad. Hummus isn't bad, though we thought it would be improved by squirting on a little extra lemon. The baba ganoush is the one thing of Aladdin's really I didn't like--very little flavor aside from the eggplant. But their "Turkish salad" (ezme) is itself enough to redeem any other culinary lapses. It's a piquant, herb-ey tomato based mash that's wonderful stirred into hummus, spread on sandwiches, or as a nibble on an appetizer plate. Despite it's name, I wouldn't eat a bowl of it as a main-course salad or large side dish--the flavor is just too intense. We also really liked their housemade "mixed pickle," which amounts to a mild giardiniera, but with more zing than any version in a jar. You'll pucker like you bit into a lemon, but you won't want to stop with one bite. Service is always very good here. If you have trouble finding something, it's not hard to find someone to help, though often as not they find me first. The people there are always friendly, always determined to get you what you need. Which I suppose is why it's one of my favorite ethnic markets. read more

This was the first market I visited when my family moved to Ann Arbor when I was 6. It has expanded since then and I believe the owner has changed but the smell of the store is still the same blend of spices and prepared baked goods. The meat counter here is awesome for lamb. They have lamb legs and ribs and things for about $5 something a pound. The only thing is that their ground beef and chicken is considerably more expensive than the competitors in the area(Golam). The butcher is very nice and will give you exactly what you want, and will cut the meat however you want it cut which is really nice. I also like the spices, and it's the only place in Ann Arbor that I have found dried Gormeh Sabzi (persian herb mixture), they also sell dried lemons and all sorts of other yummy things. They have a nice selection of teas as well as kitchen wares, dishes, glasses and even things like hookah charcoal. read more

Amazing prepared food section and the best middle eastern grocer in the area (halal meat included). I must say, the vegetable samosa gets me every time, it is so wonderful, especially to take home, reheat at 350F for 7min and broil to crispness. The hummus and baklava are also really fantastic. To top it off, they get fresh Yasmeen Bakery pita delivered daily - which is by far the best pita in the area. The owner is incredibly nice and the shopping experience wonderful. I live in California but grew up in Ann Arbor. I go here on my trips to Michigan. What a wonder you guys have, to be able to shop here regularly. I got Shwarma a few other items from the deli case. They were FANTASTIC! MMM. The place is well stocked with a variety of things, and when I lived in Michigan I shopped there regularly for middle eastern groceries. I met the new owner on this trip and he was a super nice, and very helpful. His deli food was way better then the last guys food, and the last guys food was not bad, so that is saying something. I've been shopping here for over 10 years, with at least 2 owners, and keep returning. My wife just stopped there tonight for lunch for her coworkers at U of M Hospital. Baba Ganoush is on the smoky side, and it has grown on us, and the tabouli is always fresh. Our family loves both of those. Samples are available, so you never have to buy by sight alone. Love the Imjidra, baked kibbe and spinach pies. Very fair prices, consistent quality, and very friendly, always welcoming even a 60 something white male like me. I have not found the owners to be particularly friendly or helpful. Since they helped to drive out the owners of Sunshine Produce next door, I no longer shop at their store. They complained that Sunshine Produce sold similar products - mostly baked goods at a lower price. Isn't that what running a business is all about? You offer a better deal and the people will come. Apparently that did not suit the owner of Aladin's and he complained loudly to the landlord. Now we have lost a great shopping resource. I shopped at Sunshine Produce at least three times a week and miss them very much. read more

Great place for middle eastern products. I've been going to this place for years and its come a long way. The hummus and tabolli are the best. First time I was introduced to their samosa I was hooked. Weather it's feta cheese, olive oil, or fruit preserves this place is worth stopping by even if your not on Packard.
