I will start this as I always do by saying I do not give out five stars unless I am really blown away. This is a very nice place to come and eat outside on the deck overlooking the Erie Canal. Had a great atmosphere. There was some live music playing in the common area along the canal, which I got to listen to. The view was nice. Staff was quick and friendly. The food was pretty good. I thought the hummus was very good. The falafel was just OK. But the Mediterranean salad was delicious. They're dressing was excellent. Could've used a few more olives other than that no complaints. I didn't get any of the dessert, but it looked awesome. Maybe next time. I strongly recommend coming here if your looking for some outdoor seating on a nice summer day. read more

I have mixed feelings about Aladdin's Natural Eatery in Schoen Place (Pittsford). Pros: Vegan options exist. Outside seating by the canal is nice when the weather cooperates. Our server was reasonably friendly and efficient. Cons: They make it difficult to wait for a table. Pita bread is low quality. Chili was disappointing. They were out of falafel when we last visited. The setting is the best thing going for this place. Our table was outside near the canal, the weather was warm, and sitting by the water was quite pleasant. The problem is that the restaurant doesn't make it easy to wait for a table. They won't serve you a drink while you wait, and they won't call or text you when your table opens up, so you can't slip next door to the bar for a drink without risking your spot. The vegan options are limited but real. The veggie combo plate lets you pick either three or four items from falafel, hummus, baba ganoush, tourlu, sautéed spinach, and tabulee, and there's also a falafel pita pocket. I've sampled all these items before, and they all taste good, but most of it isn't very filling. The falafel is the exception, which made it a problem that they were out of it the last time I visited. We didn't find out until well after we'd ordered. Four of us at a table of six had ordered items with falafel, so we had to scramble for replacements. It seems unusual for a Middle Eastern restaurant to run out of falafel. The pita bread is a real letdown. It comes from a commercial bakery, and it's so soft that it doesn't have the firmness to scoop up hummus or baba. It also just doesn't taste very good. A restaurant like this should really be baking its own. I ordered a bowl of chili along with my combo plate. The chili arrived a few minutes after the combo (I was hoping it would come out first), and it was disappointing. It was very liquidy without many kidney beans, the portion was small for a bowl, and the flavor was mediocre at best. Our server was friendly and attentive, though he didn't know whether the tahini sauce was vegan. It turned out not to matter, since the tahini was meant to accompany the falafel we never got. We chose Aladdin's to have a special birthday celebration. When we were seated, our eventual server (who never introduced himself but we later found his name on the receipt) waked past our table half a dozen times while making eye contact with us each time. It seemed as though our table was an inconvenience to his evening. It was about 15min into us sitting down before we were asked about ordering which he rushed us through. We did however get water right away, and later on the same woman was very prompt with bussing our table. My friends enjoyed their meals, but we waited almost 10min for my meal to come out of the kitchen (falafel pita) after my friends all received their meals. The server walked past and looked at me three times before my friend addressed that my food was not out yet. No apology, just telling us it's on the way out in as few words as possible. When it arrived, it was cold and the falafel was over-fried but at that point I was so hungry I didn't care to complain. When we were finishing our meals, the server reached across the table with a stack of napkins, no words exiting his mouth, but direct eye contact made until we took the napkins from his hand. It was an unpleasant experience and we will not be returning. The saving grace of the evening was our ice cream treat at Pittsford Dairy! read more

What an awesome location! Got there early before the rest of my party, so they do not seat you until everyone in your group is present. After waiting 1/2 hour we got a fabulous seat overlooking the canal. There is plenty of seating upstairs and down. Greeted first with water and a warm welcome. Then a fantastic waitress took our drink orders and gave us information about what choices might suit us given our palates. The food was fantastic! What a find this place was! I was with a group and we were on a barge trip up the Erie Canal, which stopped in Pittsford. Our party included a vegan and two vegetarians, and Aladdin's happened to be right there at the dock. The food was fantastic, including an assortment of their delicious desserts. Saturday night was date night. We decided that Aladdin's in Pittsford was the chosen destination. So we were able to get a decent parking spot across from Aladdin's and then we walked across the street and went into Aladdin's and then from there the hostess sat us downstairs right across from the canal. Which was nice and there was a band playing next door in the Pavilion. The hostess also provided us with our place settings & drink and food menu. Then our waitress came to the table a few minutes later and we got two ice waters with lemon and I got a glass of moscato. I also got the Lentil soup which was delicious I ate that up right quick. And I also got the Dolmades which were also quite good I had 1. I was full by this time with the soup and having some of his Tabouleh which was also really good. He ordered the Pita with chicken/ steak/ shrimp in it and he was also quite happy with his meal. And then we got dessert I got the Baklava (Delicious) I love me my Baklava lol! And he got the chocolate cake & 2 coffees. The waitress & waitstaff were all pleasant knowledgeable and helpful. Plus it was a nice night. So we will be back soon. read more

Met a friend for lunch today, place is kind of easy to find in Pittsford, parking is a little tight and finding the front entrance tricky. Hostess was great, kind, seated right away, waitress was also spot on with recommendations. Food was quick, fresh, and hot, we both had lunches and hot tea, price was $47.00 so fair. While we were Rochester playing golf, a local who played with us recommended us here for a great value meal. He said to go to this location over the other to enjoy the views. It doesn't hurt that Trader Joe's is nearby (for all the Canadian tourists). When we arrived we were surprised to see a bit of wait to get in. Rochester isn't a busy, so this is definitely one of the few poppin' spots around this area. When we requested to sit at the rooftop (recommended to us from a local) and said we can wait. One of the servers seemed very short with us and gave us ambiguity that it could be an undetermined wait time but the other was nice and noted the wait shouldn't be too long and she was right it was just 10-15mins. View is decent and the covered patio is a great to cover from potential flies or elements. We also enjoyed some live music from a band playing across the canal. As for food, we ordered the mix grill (main) and the vegetarian combo under the appetizer section (more like a main). The portions were massive! Definitely right about the value. I don't think I can get used to these American portion sizes at all... Could feed 3-4 people. We were not a fan of the mixed grill because the meat was all dry. However there is plenty of meat! It feeds two alone. The vegetarian combo was an easy winner for us. We chose the tourlou, Spanakopita and falafel for our options and enjoyed it the most. Can confirm from the other reviewer that it's our first time having our cucumbers chopped so thick in our dish like 1cm. It didn't bother us too much though. My favorite Lebanese spot on the East Coast. I can't visit Rochester without visiting Aladdin's, right at the Erie Canal. Just like my previous visits, I was not disappointed: great service, cool ambiance sitting near the canal, and wonderful food, healthy food, and of course their baklava and other baked goods. I was cold and wanted a Hot tea and a Dessert. What better sweet than Baklava in a Greek restaurant. As I sat sipping tea and eating the sweets, I decided to order a Falafel Pita Roll. The roll was warm, the Falafel was cold, as was the rest of the green leafy stuffing. The Falafel was not fried to order. I have eaten better ones. The food is very good as usual and we enjoy the setting by the water. I am dry disappointed that they continue to use single use plastic containers for leftovers though. There are multiple environmentally friendly options, using non-recyclable plastic is just irresponsible in this day and age. Our primary waiter was quite unfriendly and aloof. I only started eating at Aladdin about three weeks ago and the first time I was there I got the pasta, specifically the ravioli with marinara sauce and the chicken pita burrito. They were both great items however, I did end up liking the pasta more. After that, I proceeded to go at least once a week, sometimes twice. Everything has always been delicious and the consistency has been perfect. Except today, which is also why I am writing this review... my marinara sauce was kind of soupy, and I will give credit to me as well because I did show up at least an hour before closing, but the marinara fell right off the ravioli which left the it dry. I brought this up to the waiter and proceeded to ask for just a cup of marinara sauce, he told me that the kitchen had already closed, which is completely understandable. However, 15 minutes later, he came out with a brand new plate of pasta, and they even comped it from my check , I feel like this is the type of service that makes a good place! I thought they were just gonna strike it from my check. I did not know that they were going to come out with a full plate of pasta on top of it. They have a modest collection of drinks, including wine, my favorite being a Muscato, I like something that's a little more sweet ;) As for the atmosphere I haven't been here during the winter time but in the summertime it's absolutely lovely! Its so nice! On some days after 5pm you can hear Pete play his guitar down below on the canal with his dog Francis. The view of the canal is absolutely stunning especially when the boats are floating by, and it is quite literally a breath of fresh air. Was at Aladdin's today for lunch. They were busy, with most people sitting on the second floor deck. They had limited seating indoors. The deck has temporary "walls" to keep out the elements. We were told that they had the heat on, but I'm not sure if that was true. Yes, the food and service were good. My biggest complaint is that they charge $2.25 for tea, which is actually a cup of hot water and a tea bag from Lipton. That doesn't make sense. read more

Dined here last night and had a very enjoyable time. Our party of four started with the humus appetizer, and for appetizers we had two mixed grill, a gyro special, and raviolis. The appetizer was more than enough for four guys to share, and none of us finished our entrees- the mixed grill especially was piled high with fresh cooked meats, and all around no complaints were made. The desserts were absolutely wonderful, there was 6-7 fresh made to choose from, and we absolutely devoured them. Pricing was very reasonable, and the wait staff were super friendly and on top of anything we needed. What can I say about the location other than quaint, charming, perfect for a date night- this was my first time at the little village-esque area and I was blown away. I've been coming here happily for years, but my most recent experience was disappointing. During a Wednesday lunch rush, we were served babaganoush instead of the hummus we ordered, it was good but not what we were craving. The bigger issue was how rushed we were by the wait staff. We were still eating our salads (actively eating, chewing) when we were asked if we wanted dessert or coffee. With mouths full of food we shook our heads no and within minutes we were given a bill. We probably would have wanted some dessert and coffee if we had been given the chance to finish our meal first. read more

Aladdins certainly delivered again on this warm sunny autumn afternoon. Always a great experience at Schoen Place Aladdins Eatery. The food is prepared fresh, tasty, with a great presentation. One cannot go wrong with any menu item. Service is always good. During regular meal hours there can be a wait. The wait is totally worth it. I was craving comfort food this afternoon for a late lunch/early dinner after a stressful weekend. The moussaka with a side caesar salad certainly accomplished today's comfort food craving - delicious, perfectly seasoned. I typically order the Mediterranean salad when dining here - also delicious. Finishing my meal with a nice leisurely cup of coffee, taking in the lovely fall foliage, before I take a stroll on the paved walkway of the Erie Canal. Two days ago we had a middle eastern culinary autopsy. To clear our heads and palates we went yesterday to Cedar for lunch and it was as good as my Lebanese grandmother made (its my go-to place for stuffed grape leaves, especially). Today we went to Aladdin along the barge canal in Pittsford. Glad we did. I love Gazpacho. Their Gazpacho was incredible. Perfectly balanced flavors, fresh vegetables. I could have enjoyed three bowls instead of one. Next time. The appetizer plate of three choices was excellent, too. Babaghanouj needs to have texture (little clumps of eggplant) and not too much garlic or seasoning to let the eggplant subtlety come through. Yes on all counts. Falafel that hold together and is a good balance of spice and texture/flavor of the chickpeas. Check. Not-too-strong tahini sauce? Absolutely. Flavorful with appropriate flavors of tahini and lemon combined. Sautéed spinach with a powerful dose of garlic. Sure, it was a lot of garlic, but surprisingly, it wasn't overpowering. Just strong. Spinach still had texture so it wasn't at all overcooked. My wife's fruit salad ("fruit and nuts" I think it was called) was generously filled with fruit, walnuts and a heavenly sauce of yogurt and honey. My moussaka was wonderfully flavorful, although the meat spicing was a bit strong. The included Greek salad, however, was enough for two people. I loved the amount of Feta included and such a generous helping of banana peppers, too! Very fresh lettuce and the dressing was a perfect balance of oregano, oil/vinegar and whatever else their clever and creative kitchen included. We took a little of everything home. Oh - another thing - they are GENEROUS with their bread ("khoobz" in Arabic, "pita" to most folks) and it is always a good idea to give your diners more bread than they need, because authentic middle easterners use torn off pieces of bread like scoops for things like hummus, babaghanouj, tabbouleh and the like. So we need a lot of it. They gave a lot in the basket, and enough to take home. Thank you! Yay Aladdin!! Perfect spot for dinner or lunch by the canal! They don't take reservations but I had no wait as a party of 2 on a summer Friday. My beef pita roll was amazing and we got the baklava for dessert (a little small but that was ok since the entree was so filling). Only note is I wish the beef chunks were smaller as they were sometimes too tough to bite through. Free parking nearby and easy to get to on the canal path by walking or biking. read more

Enjoyed a great lunch on the upper covered patio. A lovely spot to watch the canal boats float by. Had the souvlaki plate--the steak was delicious--came medium rare (I had asked for rare), but it was flavorful and everything was fresh & portion was more than generous. Unfortunately, I sat on a bench outside while waiting for a table to open up and didn't realize the benches where you wait were covered in greasy black soot. So please be careful--my white pants are completely ruined, which definitely put a damper on the experience. They should clean their benches or put a sign up to warn you! read more

The tuna pocket was pretty awful, bland, fell apart upon the first bite and had to be eaten as a salad. Also, it was weird that there was a centimeter thick slice of cucumber in there.
