I got takeaway from here - I really want to come back to eat in-person with my family or friends to try more dishes though. It looked like a good place to share food at in terms of atmosphere. I got the Mantarli (Mushroom) Pide and Sutlac (Rice Pudding). The pide was good, but it wasn't as hot as I would've liked to have been :( I think this was because of the delivery service, so it's not any fault of the restaurant. The crust was really nice and crunchy. The pudding was excellent - it was light and rich at the same time and hit the spot perfectly. I think that this place would be best eaten at in-person, so for a truly fair review I'd need to come back for that. Very good food and solid pricing! read more

When we planned to visit Rochester, I asked a local friend in NJ to get some recommendations for 'interesting' food. He recommended As Evi. Being a bit new to Turkish cuisine, I looked up the dishes and wanted to get Adana Kebab. The Kebab was wonderful. The rice that came with it went well. And, Lebni, which went well. I meant to order Yogurtlu Adana, which sounded very unique. The friendly person at the counter, when asked, said it will be great, but take some time. As they prepare every dish. A real hidden gem in a crusty plaza. I'm so glad I tried As Evi. My husband and I ordered the potato pide, the mushroom pide, hummus (which came with delicious flatbread for dipping), and Turkish hot tea. The pides (pronounced pitas) are similar to pizzas or calzones, big and filling with lots of fresh veggies - peppers, tomatoes, onions. I generally don't even like peppers, but the flavors really worked. Service with a smile and all of the food is made fresh to order. There is calm instrumental music playing and a relaxing vibe, families dining in and people picking up to go orders. We ordered baklava and rice pudding to take home and they were great. I don't know much about Turkish cuisine but I will be coming here again to try other things! read more

As Evi had an amazing selection of Turkish food that you can't get at a typical kebab place! I thoroughly enjoyed everything that I ordered there and would order everything again! Here's what we ordered: 1. Baba ganoush- could have been thicker and more smoky but still delicious! 2. Coban salatsi - refreshing salad that I couldn't get enough of! I could probably have eaten the whole plate of salad by myself. The vinaigrette was amazing! 3. Manti- dumplings were filled with meat and covered in a yogurt sauce. Really good but I wish the yogurt was on the side because it made the dumplings pretty cold 4. Pide - I loved how cheesy this was! The egg on top was also great, because you could dip the bread in the yolk! 5. Chicken with yogurt dish - the chicken was well marinaded and cooked and the yogurt was nice and tangy! Located in a strip mall, this is a very authentic Turkish restaurant that is a gem. Came here on a weekday evening with a small group and snagged a booth. Unassuming restaurant and we had to wait for a specific waitress since unfortunately none of us could speak Turkish. We tried lamb chops, iskender kebab, and karisik pide. The lamb chops were beautifully cooked (though a bit pricey; 4 pieces for over $25) and my favorite entree. The iskender kebab was alright, though a bit heavy for me personally (oily meat on top of bread). The karisik pide reminded me of the equivalent of a Turkish pizza. I have a lot to write about As Evi. Some good and some not so good. We went there on a Tuesday evening before 6. No body was there but very very soon three other tables got filled up. A young man who was clearly a fine student but not a professional or experienced waiter helped us. He began by listing what they didn't have that night and what they can substitute - not a good start! I ordered three dishes for the three of us to share: Beyti kabob, Iskandar kabob and Lamb Chops, as well as a side of yogurt with cucumbers and garlic. It took what felt like lifetime for the food to come ... and by lifetime I mean more than an hour! I could see two people working back in the kitchen. Soon a lady joined them. Beyti kabob was pretty good. It was meat wrapped in bread with tomato sauce arranged like a circle on a hot dish. In the middle of the circle, they put plain yogurt. Iskandar kabob was similar with a bed of bread and meat on top and plenty of tomato sauce over the whole thing and with plain yogurt on its side. They were similar in ingredients and taste but also somehow different. Lamb Chops were kind of tough. It came with four lamb chops over a bed of rice and with salad on the the side. More expensive and least in quality and taste. In general, the food was okay especially Beyti kabob but I would say over priced. Portions were good. Service and serving time needs a lot of help. The young waiter left and the owner took over. A very nice man who works very hard. Clearly, they were making everything fresh in the kitchen including the bread. But with only four tables and ten customers sitting at those tables, they cannot take more than one hour to bring the food to the tables. Somehow they need to improve their process. One of the dishes they didn't have on a Tuesday evening was their Döner Kabob, which is a favorite in Turkish cuisine. Apparently, they serve that only on weekends, which is unfortunate. As Evi is a hidden gem! It was pretty empty when we went in for dinner around 8pm on a Saturday, but several families trickled in to eat in the time that we were there. The waiter was attentive and kind, and he even let us order half hummus and half babaganush, which they usually don't allow! We also ordered the mixed platter, one piece of lahmacun, manti, and a small akdeniz salatasi salad. My favorites were the mixed platter, which had such flavorful meats and veggies, and the hummus and babaganush dips with pita. The pita was soo good and fluffy that we ordered a second round of it! The manti was good as well, especially if you like yogurt as a sauce. The salad was a little heavy on the cheese for me, but otherwise tasted very refreshing. Everything we ordered was honestly so delicious! We also got Turkish coffee to end the meal, and it came with a small yummy dessert covered in powdered sugar that went well with the coffee. Overall, As Evi Turkish Cuisine is a very good restaurant. I would rate it 3.0 on Atmosphere, 4.5 on Food and 5+ on service. Be prepared, this is somewhat of a dive, so don't let the looks fool you, you should try it. The service/managment was over-the-top and I'd give it a 5+. Super friendly and made our first visit special. My sister really liked the Lahmacun, however I didn't try as I don't eat meat. We also started with the Babaganush which was delicious. And then we ordered two different Pides (which was way too much food). I had the Mantra (with mushrooms) and my sister had the Dönerli (stuffed with Gyro Meat). Of the food she didn't care for the Dönerli. It has a flavor she didn't care for. And for a little sweet at the end, we were treated to a little Baklava. The Turkish food here is literally so fresh and delicious you'll be adding their restaurant to your take out routine. Tips: 1. Call at least 30-40 minutes ahead of time of when you want to eat because their Turkish pies take at least 30 minutes to cook. All their salads are so delicious. 2. Often times they run out of a lot of their staple/popular dishes. So keep that in mind! Especially their lentil soup. It sells out fast, so if you're craving a warm soup as the weather gets chillier you gotta go there well before the dinner rush. Their dips are all fresh and homemade with lots of love, you can taste it. 3. Because I live 20 minutes away, I also pop into the market next door to get my Arabic spices and beans when I run low for a great price. I know the plaza may look a little run down, but I swear you'll be glad you checked this place out. Everyone is friendly and the food never disappoints. I always order vegetarian, and I am stuffed due to the hearty portions. If you have a sweet tooth they import their baklava! read more

After watching an episode on Turkish breads on a Hulu series titled World Eats Bread, I had to try what As Evi had to offer in their bakery. Never having been there nor ever trying Turkish bread/ baked goods I wasn't sure what to expect. Let me tell you it was well worth visiting. The Simit was outstanding as well as the other 6 items we tried. Everything was fresh and delicious and I can't wait to go back and try their other offerings. Excellent Turkish food! I personally tried the chicken kebab entree which was perfection. The meat was so tender and well seasoned and a good amount. The rice was so well flavored and cooked. The salad was in a vinaigrette and was a wonderful complement to the rest of the dish! Food took about 30 min to come out but everything was so fresh including the bread! Of note: if you ask for water they will charge $1 per bottled water. I tried the peach juice which was a canned drink and rly refreshing! Went to West Henrietta location Strange experience. Server kept walking away. I asked if chicken in the sandwich is the same as kebab chicken or a full breast he didn't understand just kept saying chicken. I asked what is white sauce... mayo,yogurt? he just put it on there. Walked away before we could ask for drinks. Had to catch him so we can add humus to order. Asked if they give pita or bread. Just blank stare . Asked for water and he said he only had two child... there were three of us. Asked for cup to share walked away... my friend said I need a drink he offered her mineral water. Then got up to go to dessert case. Had questions no prices. Tiny little square of pistachio green cake $2. Larger piece $4 a small cake $8. I asked are they the same he said yes. Got home and it was chocolate. My other friend got 3 pieces and he told her on the house. She paid with cash he left out the front door without explanation we assume to get change from neighboring place. Couldn't get change so she offered credit card. While he was serving us he would just leave...we were asking questions people came in at 830 he was telling them they were going to close at 840. They asked if they get something to go and asked for kebabs and they were out so they left and he packed up like 8 pieces of bread in a bag and ran out side to give to them. I asked for receipt and he looked at me walked away came back took care of my friend we were both charged for dessert by the way.... I again asked for receipt and he printed out the order but not credit card receipt. We both noticed the suggested to was not 20% on 25 is $5. It said $8 for 18% tip and all the prices were strange. Hummus on menu said 5.49 but charges 5.71. that cake was $8 charges 8.32 9.99 sandwich charged 10.39 so are we getting double taxes? The others didn't add up. 1.56 for water??? Very strange. This is seriously the most delicious Halal Turkish cuisine I have ever had. The 4 marinated baby lamb chops were tender and grilled perfectly with lots of meat on each chop. The rice was perfect and the tomato salad with peppers was exquisite. this is family owned and every member works there. This is totally a hidden gem in an unsuspecting strip mall in Rochester! I can't speak to the Turkish authenticity, but I can tell you we weren't unhappy with anything we ordered. Much of the menu had pictures to accompany the descriptions and if you have questions the employees are friendly and willing to help you. The homemade lebni was a stand out for us with chopped walnuts and fresh herbs mixed in it was cold and creamy and refreshing. The Lahmacun (very flat pizza type bread) was awesome; very thin and crispy at the edges but flavorful and chewy in the middle. Delicious! The feta pide was also a favorite of the table, just perfectly soft, crispy, buttery, and salty. 5/5 FOOD-everything we got was fresh and delicious. 4/5 SERVICE- so friendly but the language barrier and counter service created a few issues. We didn't get the lamb chops we ordered and instead of 1 each of 3 apps (lebni, humus, and babanganush), we got 3 orders of lebni- which didn't end up being an issue at all but still a miscommunication. 3/5 ENVIRONMENT- people in and out on phones or playing music, employees going next door to the shop, people outside smoking, etc. was distracting and took away from the overall experience. 4/5 VALUE- I think prices are pretty fair for the quality and amount of food you get. read more

I'm going to an Argentinian fancy dress party... "As Eva" Peron. What to get: Adana/Kofte Kebab in Turkish Bread, or Doner Kebab. What else: Turk these broken wings and learn to fly again. And what else: Some people like boobs or butts. I prefer girls' backs. I'm a Baklava. So there was a volcanic explosion. There was "Ash Every" where. As Evi is an absolute gem that everyone in Rochester should come and try. The service is lovely, the food is outstanding, it's extremely unique and unusual for this region, and the prices are absolutely bargain basement. It's also clean and spacious and a great place to stop in for lunch or dinner. Ants used to be friendly. No more. I guess, like every other species, "Ants Evolve." It used to be the same business as the Turkish butcher and grocery store next door, with no wall dividing the restaurant from the store. But they built the wall, and sold the business to a local Turkish restaurant, who moved in just a few weeks ago, and are already cooking up some of the best Turkish food in the whole state. It's amazing to find this little gem in the quiet burbs north of Rochester. It absolutely must stay in business. For that to happen, all of you in the 585 must try it. If you do, many of you will inevitably love it. Your boyfriend is jealous of my deodorant. He has "Axe Envy." As it says in the recs at the top, I'd go for either the Adana or the Doner, always in the homemade Turkish bread, with lots of sauce added. The Doner isn't the wettest or most flavourful Doner meat I've ever had, but it's certainly got a good taste and all of the additions to the sandwich make it even better. However the Adana is my hands down favourite. Made fresh on the spot, they'll ask you 1 skewer or 2. You only really need 1 unless you're in a meat mood. And the 1 skewer keeps the price very low too. The meat is absolutely heavenly. It's like Kofte Kebab or Iraqi Kebab if you know what those are. Long skewers of minced spiced ground meat. It's phenomenal. The authentic Turkish "Pita" makes it even better. I think it's called "Pyza." You won't need a leaning tower to tell you that this meal will have you falling over sideways, it's that good. I need a place to stay when I visit New Jersey. Maybe I should "Ask Eva." And of course one of the best things other than the lovely service and the fact that you're supporting a local and delicious and unique business, is that these huge, filling, generous and dreamy Turkish Pita sandwiches will set you back all of $6. Yes, six dollars. That price can't last forever with food this good and this generous, so come and eat some of them before everyone finds out about it. And please, "as ever", bring friends. I called yesterday and placed my order for pickup. The restaurant estimated my food to be ready at 4:30 pm. I was there at 4:30, and the food was ready between 4:35 and 4:40. Considering that I saw two other customers receive their order also, I conclude that this establishment is working as fast as they can to get the orders out as soon as they can. Now, on to the food. The food is a little bit pricey for what you get. That being said, in this pandemic, paying a bit higher at restaurants helps them stay afloat; since many metrics will affect their bottom dollar (so the offset has to come from somewhere). As for the food itself, it was tasty and the quality was great. The lebni was fresh and made from scratch. Actually, everything was made from scratch based on my inference. The gyro sandwich was a bit dry, but it was tasty. I loved the chicken sandwich, and in general, all of their meats were well prepared. One point to note though: If you like heavily seasoned, salty foods, Turkish cuisine is not for you. The foods are generally lightly seasoned, but if they are combined with the salads, then you'll unlock the full flavors as intended by the chef. For dessert, try the Kunefe/Kunafa. Take it home and heat it up to melt the core. The crispy exterior and gooey interior combined with the sweet honey leaves little to be desired. It is an awesome culmination to an overall delicious meal. Be careful with how much you eat though. It's so sweet that a relatively small portion goes a long way on the road to satisfaction. Enjoyed a lovely meal here with family and friends. The name of the restaurant loosely translates to "house of food",; we were truly welcomed guests to this "kitchen". Started with hummus and Kiymali (ground beef ) pides. Then we enjoyed shish kabobs and a mixed grill platter. We couldn't truly express the tastiness of the meal, especially the flavor of chicken and meats. The rice, bread and all ingredients were delicious and fresh.
