They have always helped me here. I came here because clearly the surgery I had on Wednesday knocked me off my bippy. I used the chair to sit in and it worked quite well with the arm cushions. I had no problem at all. I also used a cushion behind my back for support and that helped me a lot in the chair. I got only acupuncture here today. The needles go in many times I don't feel it at all. After about 30 minutes my eyes opened and I felt plumped up with energy and felt less contracted than when I arrived. The music is very soothing and I got a heat lamp for my feet to keep me cozy and warm. Excellent. read more

I have to state openly when I am asked about Kasier acupuncture session in downtown Oakland in comparison to ACA. After waiting for a month to get a Kaiser appointment as referred by my physician is a long time interval. After my scheduled session on a Saturday at Kaiser from a few weeks ago, and compared to today at ACA. I found that the difference between acupuncture sites are very different in terms of needle placement for the same affected portion of my spinal pain. The overall difference is recovery time as my pain recovery from ACA is shorter and longer lasting (more effective) while Kaiser treatment was not as long as I hoped and their needle placement is different than ACA. The pain recovery time from KP was longer. My therapist at ACA is Eliza, who I swear by my past experiences will be my only acupuncturist who can touch me, other than Donna (who unfortunately left the practice). However Eliza is my go to acupuncturist since she works on the weekend as this is suitable for my work schedule. I know how pain works and I hope the treatments at ACA won't be interrupted any time soon. read more

I came in because my daughter asked to try acupuncture to treat an intermittent facial tic. Since I am unfamiliar with acupuncture, I decided to try it, too, to understand better what it's about. The practitioner asked about our symptoms and then said she would treat them without explaining her method or approach or what to expect, except that we would only need to expose our arms and lower legs. This surprised me. The first time I went in for chiropractic, the chiropractor took great pains to explain his approach and what to expect, even bringing out a skeleton to illustrate his points. Here, there was no discussion. The shared space was relaxing, and I had no issue with others being treated simultaneously. Everyone was quiet and respectful. I felt nothing during the process. I dozed for half an hour on a comfortable bed with dim lighting. My daughter said she could feel pressure in certain areas and as though she was light-headed afterward. When we finished, the practitioner asked if we wanted to make a follow-up appointment. Again, no discussion of our experience, how we would know if the treatment had its intended effect, the prognosis for the future, or an explanation of what she had just done. We'll try elsewhere. I need to feel like this isn't some magic black box treatment. read more

I've been coming to Alameda Community Acupuncture for almost 5 months now almost weekly and have absolutely noticed the difference in my health, which was not bad at all to begin with, but even the little issues or concerns I had are now gone. This place truly is a little gem because it is affordable (sliding scale pay) due to its communal nature (you will be sitting in a large room with multiple people getting treatment at the same time). This does not bother me at all because everyone is pretty much napping and not staring at you. I fall asleep every time for about an hour due to being ultimately relaxed and wake up replenished (and not grumpy like normally). I've never done acupuncture before so this has been my only experience with it, and to be honest I wasn't really expecting much, just maybe some extra relaxation. I met with Donna for my first initial appointment and mentioned few things I'd like to work on to balance my body and after our first session my 5+ year long elbow pain completely went away. I could not believe it! And now 5 months later it still hasn't come back. Same with hormonal breakouts around my chin area. No mas! I haven't changed anything with my diet or lifestyle in general so I like to believe it is because of acupuncture. Our main focus with Eun (lovely lady!) has been hormonal balance with my treatments since I am at that age where that could use support. read more

Wow, I can't even begin to explain how much I love this place. 2 months ago, I was diagnosed with Bells Palsy. The whole right side of my face was paralyzed. When I went to see my doctor, she recommended this place! I was surprised that a western doctor would recommend acupuncture so I had to try it. At this point, I would do anything to get better. I am so happy I did!!! It was my first time and Donna was my acupuncturist. She explained everything thoroughly and made me feel welcome. It actually doesn't hurt. There are some places that stings more but it goes away in a second. She recommended to come 3x a week until my Bell's palsy gets better and that's exactly what I did. Since then, 2 months later, I would say I am 90% recovered. As far as payment, it is a sliding scale. For first time costumers, it's $35-45. For returning customers, it's $25-35. It is CASH ONLY so be prepared. They do break bills if you need it. I wholeheartedly believe in acupuncture and I hope you try this place soon! read more

I came here as a first time patient and worked with Ana. She was knowledgeable about my particular health condition and asked me more questions to get a better understanding. On my first visit I got there 15 minutes early to fill out paperwork. When you enter the building it's a nice and quiet environment. You can help yourself to water or hot tea (nettle tea this time). Ana walked me through the payment process and gave me a tour of the space. We went into the community room and there were about 4/5 massage tables and 10-12 zero gravity chairs. Ana chose a chair for me and once I was there I saw regulars come in and choose their own chair. Once we got into a chair she had me lift my pants and remove my sweater. She started to put in the needles and told me that shouldn't feel any pain and to let her know if I did. Only one needle out of 13 needed to be readjusted. I stayed there for about 40 minutes and Ana kept checking in with me. During my session I felt at peace and time went by quickly. When Ana removed the needles I had some light bleeding from a point on my left ear. Ana said this was a good thing, I read more on the subject and saw that this indicates relief in an area that captures heat ( my ears are often hot and red) and that it means that the energy flow is being balanced. I'm due to come back 2-3 times a week for the next 4-6 weeks to address my health issue. I am looking forward to returning to Alameda Community Acupuncture. read more

I am so grateful to have a place where I can go any day of the week, often on short notice, when I am not feeling well. And that it's affordable! Every practitioner I have seen is kind, understanding, and thorough. And their needles/needling style is so gentle! I've been going there for over a year, and in my experience, the treatments have been very effective. This week I was having cold and flu symptoms and with two visits, plus herbs, I have come through the illness very quickly. No matter what complaint I am having addressed, I always go into a deep meditation or even fall asleep once the needles are in place. It's so relaxing. ACA is a gift! read more

This place is a little different than the other clinics that I have visited. I went in to get my blood pressure turned down and also reduce some neuropathy and probably gout on one toe. I was glad how easy this clinic makes getting treatment. The doctor was efficient and rapid. It was a communal setting with choices of tables and recliners. Patients remain clothed except socks and shoes. The doctor used ear, face, hand and feet points. I was very relaxed and noticed a nice tingling in my toes and feet. And I checked my blood pressure and it was lower than usual. My red hot toe feels about 50% better already and the neuropathy fades in and out, but not half as much. I will return a couple of times a week for awhile and see where this goes. read more

I am forever grateful for the wonderful acupuncture treatments I receive here. Donna has addressed my chronic neck, upper and lower back pain so well, that I can't stop referring friends here. I appreciate the sliding scale, which allows me to go as needed, but once a week is ideal. The community style setting is fine, it's quiet, you might hear some mild snoring, but as soon as your needles are in you get to create your own music as well. I only wish I could get cupping here...that would make it ideal! I'll be going back this Saturday and taking a family member with me to address his TMJ and my teeth clenching. When I go to get acupuncture it is because I am in pain, I expect everyone who works in the field to know that. I certainly don't expect to be questioned rudely why I am there and that they don't have time for me when the sign says "walk-ins welcome". But I was sent away AFTER I already paid!! I was told by Donna, there was no time to see me, that I should go take a walk for about an hour or just wait. There were more empty chairs than not.!!! My usual visit takes them 5 minutes to put the needles in me, then they walk away for 30-60 minutes, then come back and take 3 minutes to remove needles. They basically spend 8 minutes tops with me total. The rest of the time you occupy a lounging chair. I suppose this review is really of review of Donna, because I have been treated with respect by the other clinicians. I can't say if I feel comfortable going there anymore. If I do I will check the schedule and make sure it is not Donna. read more

Very affordable treatment. Sliding scale makes this truly a community gem and gives access to people who otherwise may not be able to afford it. Skilled and knowledgable acupuncturists administer the sessions in a quiet, peaceful and respectful community setting. Basically, you sign up online for an appointment or register via walk-in (with an avg wait of 5-15 minutes), fill out paperwork and do an intro consultation in the reception area before treatment begins in the community room. Dress comfortably in loose clothing, take off your shoes and pick a reclining chair to sit in for your treatment (there are about 8 or so chairs lining the walls with 3 tables (reserved for cases where the acupuncturist thinks you need to lie down). The acupuncturist will come over to you and administer treatment shortly thereafter and you sit or recline per your preference until you feel you've had enough time under the needles (average about 30 minutes or more), and then you make eye contact with the acupuncturist to remove your needles. It is a very clean and spa-like environment: No talking nor cellphones or disturbing others. I went regularly to cure and alleviate pain from an injury I sustained about a year ago. The treatment really helped speed up my recovery and had other good side effects on my overall health and well-being. They also have a donation-based meditation and quigong exercise class about 2 times a week and other sponsored events from time to time. This place was founded by Donna and her husband as a sincere service for the community. Their website has more info on them and a mini background on all acupuncturists. It is also easy to navigate and I recommend making appointments online, since it is the only place where you can make a credit card payment, otherwise it is cash onsite. If I could give this place six stars, I would. Because it's a community style acupuncture place, they are able to see more people at once, and charge less. There is one large room with multiple reclining chairs and soft blankets. Once you pick a chair and get comfortable, your acupuncturist will come by and talk to you and place your needles.There is ambient, relaxing music, and after they place your needles, you can drift off into a deep slumber. It's extremely comfortable. They have a sliding scale, which starts at $17. The initial visit is $10 on top of that, for paperwork. I finally decided to try acupuncture to help with a shoulder issue that I'd be having that, for some reason, was not responding to my chiro's efforts. I found an acupuncturist a town over with an introductory offer and found that, while it did take quite a few sessions, my shoulder issue did finally resolve. I loved my acupuncturist, and while I wanted to continue seeing her for maintenance, it was simply too expensive, plus it was a little bit of a drive and I had to pay for street parking. Thankfully, I found ACA on yelp and transitioned my care there. They offer services on a sliding scale basis, so you don't have to break the bank every time you go for a treatment, and long-term maintenance, should you choose to continue with it, is actually affordable. For what I paid my prior acupuncturist for one treatment, I can now get four at ACA. They only take cash or check, and since their prices are sliding scale, if you want to bill your insurance, you'll have to do the leg work. Their hours might seem a little limited for some people, but if you work a 9-5, you can probably squeek on in afterward for a treatment, plus they're open on the weekends. As other reviews (and their name) state, they provide acupuncture in a community setting: seven treatment chairs and two treatment tables in one big room. For some reason, I can never seem to nap here, but other people do just fine. I usually just listen to music on my phone and close my eyes. Appointments are encouraged and easy to book online but walk-ins are accepted. Easy street parking. Quiet setting. My husband and I had appointments on Sunday. He was skeptical, having had acupuncture treatments years ago and stating they "didn't really do anything" (he only had 2 sessions for stress). I could never afford individual acupuncture sessions, nor did I know where to start looking. My first appointment with Mandy was incredibly relaxing, and I slept better that night than I had in months. They are open 7 days a week, and there are several practitioners, so it's easy to find a time to go on a regular basis. I've only seen Ana and Mandy, both of whom are extremely friendly, professional, intuitive, gentle, and caring. The room itself is very clean and peaceful. Donna is some kind of miracle worker. I first went to her when I could barely raise my arm above my head due to shoulder pain. It took some work because the pain was so severe, but after awhile it began to get better. Then it got a lot better, to the point where I barely remember it ever hurting, and have full range of motion restored. More recently I strained a calf muscle and in trying to compensate caused corresponding pain in my knee. Once again Donna was able to hone in on the problem and provide me with a large measure of relief, this time in a shorter timeframe. It's not completely healed yet, but I know that it is on its way. The atmosphere there is totally relaxing(I almost always fall asleep), the prices are very affordable, and the results are amazing. I couldn't recommend an acupuncturist more highly. read more
