My mother passed away rather quickly and in the middle of grieving, I found myself with her apartment full of treasured antiques and a tight timeline to move out. The amount of stuff was overwhelming! Every day the apartment wasn't vacant was costing $250. I had to get out asap. I had been to Rick's Estate store in Orinda (fantastic deals, btw,) and felt like some items may be of interest to him. I sent a few photos off and Rick said he could come have a look and write up an offer. He was able to come the next day! He wrote up an offer and quickly arranged movers. I felt such relief that some of the nicer items would go to people who would appreciate them and having someone else manage the logistics was a huge load off my shoulders. As it happens, Rick also was a huge advocate for me when scheduling the move in the building hit a SNAFU. I was barely holding it together and he swooped in and arranged everything with the move coordinator. The movers he works with (FirstHand Movers) are great, efficient, and respectful. After the selected items were removed, everything left seemed manageable and I was able to quickly clear out the rest using a junk removal service. I'm so grateful to Rick, his son, and his movers for helping me get everything out in just a few days. Rick is the best! Seriously. We purchased a beautiful German buffet and sideboard this past weekend at his Rick Hudson Estate Liquidation Event. The items were varied, interesting and in good condition. The prices were reasonable - he does not price gouge, and many places do! He is clearly providing a great service to his Estate Liquidation clients and providing a fantastic opportunity for those of us looking for furniture, jewelry, collectibles and household items with character and charm. Rick and his staff also provide local delivery for a reasonable fee. We live in SF so it didn't makes sense for us. But what Rick did do was above and beyond. He met Lugg movers in the middle of the work day, vetted them (I was a bit concerned) and made sure that the items were wrapped up, packed and moved properly. he also followed up with me to make sure everything arrived in tip top shape. Rick provides old school customer service, you don't see it much these days, but how refreshing it is! Rude Rick!!! I'm writing this review because Rick Hudson embarrassed me in front of a line of customers yesterday at an estate sale in the Glenview area. When I arrived to the estate sale I went upstairs first. I found a cute little table with stains all over the top of it without a price. Since there was so much in the home not everything got priced. The nice older woman up there said to bring it downstairs to Rick or Bear for a price. So I did. Rick took a look at the table and said $35 plus the 30% off so $24.50. Not a bad price but I didn't get to look around the whole house for another one so I was going to hold on to it until I finished searching. When I went into another room another worker came up to me and asked if I wanted him to hold it behind the counter for me until I was done looking around. I said sure and have him my name and number. Now, not being a frequent estate sale goer I didn't know that holding things behind the counter meant you're buying it. He must have thought that was my intention. Understandable. So I continued to go through the house and found another comparable, larger table and just as nice but still stained. It was $20. So by that time (it had been about 40 mins) I truly forgot the price he told me. I went back to him after waiting in a long line of people cashing out. I told him I'd found another table possibly outside and wanted to be reminded of the price. He told me the price again and made sure to include, "well when you hold something behind the counter you've pretty much bought it!" He said this extremely condescendingly in front of a full line of people and workers. I was in shock from embarrassment. I turned around and went to the lady behind the counter who had the table. Her face was also stunned looking. At that point I asked her if she just heard the way he spoke to me. She said yes and I asked her if it was just me or was that totally uncalled for. She agreed shyly. And later I found out why.... I went outside with my table in hand and told the worker who originally took the table from me what had happened. I asked him who the coordinator was and that's when I found out, it was Rick! How can you talk to people like that? I was told by my original very nice helper that some people hold things until the price goes down. Well that wasn't the case and he clearly was making excuses for his boss. Rick really dropped the ball. I'm a girl in my mid twenties. I can't help but think if I was older he would have never spoke to me like that. He didn't realize that I was never told the unspoken rule of " you hold it, you buy it." I would have carried it around the damn house with me if I would have known. I ended up bringing that table right back upstairs with a pillow, glass art, and book ends I planned on purchasing. So he lost my $50 sale. Never be rude to a customer!! That's the most basic service rule there is. I wish I would have spoke up at the time but I didn't want to fight in front of a line of customers. This estate company always gets the best houses so I can't say I'll never be back but I wanted to share my experience. Beware of Rude Rick Hudson. read more

If there were a 6-star rating, I would give it to Rick in a heartbeat. I faced the daunting task of cleaning my father's house after he had lived there for 30 years. My brother and sister-in-law had recommended Hudsons after they used their services to liquidate our mother's estate and were really happy with the results. I am too. Rick came out to meet me at Dad's house and he walked through the property and we agreed to terms. Rick is very hospitable and easy to work with. His experience is evident and he is a true professional. The Hudson's team arrived on the scheduled day and they literally took care of everything. What had been a very emotional task was quickly and easily dealt with. A month later, a nice check arrived in the mail. Liquidating a family member's estate is very, very tough work. Not really my thing, but I've been to enough estate sales and antique places to know the drill. Most of their stuff isn't too bad, and it's priced to clear - they lower the prices over the weekend, ending up at 50% off, which is a pretty good deal if you know how to spot something worthwhile. It was pretty packed, and on a Sunday morning, it took 20 mins in line to get through check out. There was a kid at the exit who was supposed to check the receipt but clearly wasn't paying attention. Street parking is pretty tricky around here, but we found some eventually. read more

The sales can be compared to visiting and shopping in a museum, other times a toy store, and sometimes just what seems like a distant relatives home! Interesting, amusing, even educational. Great for sellers maybe but a total waste of time for buyers. SF resellers show up the day before and wait overnight, are first in the door, and sticker everything. A few interesting chotchkes are not worth hours of standing in line to find that everything you wanted in the photos are gone. New warehouse clearance space miniscule. read more

Rick and his team were professional and courteous and incredible to work with. Hudson's was the 3rd or 4th estate liquidators we interviewed and they were just head and shoulders above their competition. We reneged on a previous contract with another estate liquidator after meeting Rick. We actually PAID a penalty to the other liquidator to get out of their contract so we could use Rick and his team instead. That's how impressed we were by Hudson's! Don't waste your time and money like we did and just hire Hudson's. We were helping my mother in law clear out a huge property that has been her home for over 50 years. It was a very emotional and difficult decision for her to leave her home. So she kept hesitating and it took us almost a year to commit to have the estate sale. Rick has been so patient and made her feel comfortable with going forward with the sale. The job before them was almost insurmountable. The amount of things accumulated over 50 years in a large estate is mind boggling. My mother in law has "collected" an unusually large amount of stuff. We are not talking about the usual "cluttered" home. But Rick and his team took that all on and worked for 14 days sorting and pricing everything. (Our situation was very unusual, most estates take a fraction of the time to process, so don't be scared away.) We had a very successful estate sale over 3 days. Everything of value was sold! The only things left were junky and not worth much and Rick and his team took care of donating the items and leaving the house broom clean. They have a valuable list of buyers who come regularly to their sales so things really sell! Rick knows his stuff and his knowledge was invaluable in pricing everything. Rick Hudson of Hudson's Estate Liquidation did the best job I could have hoped for. I came from out of state with a short period of time to clear out my parents' home of 50 years after my mother had to go into assisted living. Rick gave a realistic bid and then followed through (starting the next day!) with everything he promised. He and his crew were professional, respectful and fast. Within 2 days the house was empty and broom clean, ready for contractors to come in and do their work. He culled the best pieces for sale and distributed the rest to donation (with receipts for me) and garbage. I didn't get everyone's name, but special thanks to Bear. I met and/or called other estate liquidators in the area who either didn't return my phone calls or e-mail at all or made bids and then disappeared. like one of the previous reviewers, i was at hudson's sale this weekend. they opened the doors nice and early at 730 am. there was a line around the block, and for good reason. nothing but great stuff and great deals. i had to wait in line as well, but as a regular to not only the hudson sales, but to sales all around the bay, that's part of going to a great estate sale. they can only let in so many people at a time. i had to wait in line for almost 30 minutes, but still found a lot of awesome deals. i returned sunday afternoon, and scored even more deals, at a great discount. get on their email list and don't miss the next sale. there's nothing better. i'll never miss one of their sales read more
