Never again. I'll start off by saying that I can't ding them on their plants because they do have good selection of healthy plants, but I am completely shut with this place and will not be spending my money there anymore because of the assholes that work there. Let me just start off by saying: if you don't have anything nice to say, shatta la beak. It's that easy. I came in today around 25 mins before their closing time. I walked immediately to the veggie section to look for specific plants to complement each other in my raised beds. I was browsing for about 5 mins before the song "closing time" gets turned on loudly over the intercom. Yeah... cool... I get it. Clever you! Thanks for the reminder! Anyhow, this little asshole employee, mid-aged girl comes in acting like the white rabbit from Alice in wonderland singing along to the song and rushing down each aisle letting everyone know they're closing and also trying to speed up her employee by asking if she needs help and if she thinks she can finish it up before closing. I was not bothered at this point. I only needed to locate a few specific plants but unfortunately, the geniuses that run this place, don't have large labels over each section to help you locate items faster. Instead, you have to look at the plant's small individual tag that is stuck in the dirt of each plant. So as the White Rabbit is on her BS in a haste, she goes to the row of plants right behind me and starts singing in the same notes as the song but saying, "I really wish you'd hurry up and make your final selection because we're closing." I looked back at her and she smiled like she is being cute. Pissed me off. We proceed to the front to pay. While I paid, my SO was just browsing in the aisles close by killing time when another jerk employee starts being a smart ass telling her rudely that they are now closed. From reading others reviews, this seems to be the norm here. Rude customer service is their forte. I will not be spending another dime here. I know of many other places in town that would love to take my money while treating me right. I wish I would have read the reviews sooner. read more

Read Julian G's review. This place is horrible. I was told to bring back my purchase for a refund of green lacewings that they recommend for aphids. They never hatched. I get there and they would only provide a 50% refund. Said it was their policy. Never told me that at the purchase. There is no policy posted. Besides, who does provide a full refund on a defective product. The so-called manager was rude and kept pushing the purchase at me saying "have a nice day sir", three times. Avoid this nursery. There's a great selection. Prices are reasonable. Some staff are really helpful. Aisles seemed pretty narrow in some areas. That's really only a problem if you have a wagon with plants and/or trees. This is one of my "go to" nurseries. read more

The owner Sara is unstable, rude and delusional. The manager, Veronica, is excellent, kind and great customer service. Sara thinks she is doing folks a favor instead of servicing them kindly. A local greenhouse. My first time visiting! A calm place to just enjoy the beauty of all the variety plants. The employees here are very thoughtful. Some of the succulents aren't ready to be purchased. I love that they don't let customers buy them just so they can make their money....There will be a sign that says "not for sale yet", it's nice that we can see the process. They really take good care of their plants. The place is nice and organized. Even the customers here were very helpful. I was told by an employee to join their mailing list for a free plant coupon. Can't wait to visit when the succulents are ready to be purchased! read more

There is one elderly lady in particular who earned this rating for the Greenhouse. We called and had questions about the plants we ordered. She was rude and didn't have the time for us. My husband and I decided to go in and receive guidance. Unfortunately, we were met with the same rude women who proceeded to embarrass us in front of the other customers and announced on her walkie-talkie that someone needed to come help us because she didn't have the patience. I get that showing up on Memorial Day at 2pm knocks out a lot of assortment that I was looking for, but ALAMEDA GREENHOUSE knocked it out of the park on Customer Service and kindness on 5/29/23. The employees were enthusiastic and cheerful and helpful. And I found what I needed! Very opposite of my experience 20min prior at OSUNA NURSERY. Those employees were unhelpful to the max. I usually don't have that experience there, but I will make ALAMEDA greenhouse my "go to" in the future. read more

Everyone I encountered was pleasant, cheerful, and Kat was a downright font of information! While nothing is cheap these days prices here are a bit less than some close by other places. I called Alameda Greenhouse to see if they had ladybugs since my garden had aphids. A lady answered and I was put on hold indefinitely... I finally hung up after 12 minutes. I am designing and remodeling my backyard and courtyard with a $4000 budget allotted for trees and plants. Guess who won't be getting my business? Alameda Greenhouse has been serving my family for years. On the positive side, you'll likely find everything you need here. If you don't find it here, they'll either order it for you or tell you where to get it. You'll find a vast selection to choose from here and usually, there is plenty of each plant to chose from. I'm not kidding about that part. Great varieties of trees, vines, flower and everything else. They really are different from every other big store. Plus, just browsing around here is a relaxing experience. Good music is pumped in over old speakers and ducks wander the lush surroundings. You can visit the goats, rabbits and chickens out back or just the birds near the register. Try doing that at a major chain! Also, you are not hassled by pushy staff here. You can browse at your leisure. On the negative side, you'll hear them say it's been around for 40 years and it really looks it. Not a great deal of effort has been put into the upkeep of the actual buildings. Also, I can't bring my Grandmother here anymore because there is no way she can get through the rows of plants. Rows are too narrow and the ground is uneven everywhere. It is not wheelchair or walker friendly and there is often mud or other hazards on the grounds, so wear old sneakers. Emphasis is on plants so call first if you're looking for a chemical or the like. The selection is good but it's not the main thing here. If you do need help, you'll need to find someone and you may have to wait. It's often pretty busy and staff can be stretched. They are pretty helpful people. Finally, the bathroom is also a storage closet and was tiny to begin with, but it's clean. Overall, I love the animals on premise. Including the Koi. I really appreciate the variety they bring and how many new ideas they can put into your yard and planters. You'll come and leave with a good feeling you bought here. I'm a fan. read more

Alameda Greenhouse used to be my favorite place to go for plants and trees. I have been going there for almost 30 years and have bought probably a hundred trees and plants. The last 2 years, it has not been good. I've bought 2 trees and they both most of have been dead when i bought them in March because they didn't grow. In fact this year, the tree didn't even have any roots! So, now, I just can't take the chance any more - it costs too much money to keep buying plants there and they not live. Was just in today may 2, 2021. one of the employees was astonishingly rude to my friend. She took exception to the fact that he was making his way through a busy area to escape the heat while she was helping someone else through. She made a smart comment about how it's "usually ladies first but I guess not today." A month ago my friend was in the hospital for three days due to a serious heart issue. So she may think it's cute to be a smart ass about what she thinks is proper gender behavior, but she should watch what she says to whom, because sometimes a person's story is not externally apparent. Never buy anything here that you can't visually correlate with the tag. I bought 2 dozen bell pepper plants, which would later reveal themselves as cherry peppers. Having wasted a month of growing time, I ended up going to Home Depot to buy a new crop of bell pepper plants (organic, no less!) This is the perfect place to find quality starts and gardening tools. Every plant I have bought from them has survived and thrived in my garden. The greenhouse is laid out with little aisles rambling through it where you're sure to find at least one or two plants you never knew existed. The whole place really does lend itself to slow browsing and the staff is very helpful and pleasant. On the weekends it does tend to get busy, so do everyone a favor and don't be in a rush. read more

Love the herbs and tomatoe starts here! One of my favorite Greenhouses to visit. We started our garden 2 years ago and our tomato starts and flower plants have always come from Alameda Nursery. I find the people are friendly and knowledgeable and the way they organized the plants are incredibly easy to navigate. They also have friendly pets that roam around the greenhouses which harvest a welcoming atmosphere. We enjoy getting our plants from here and will continue to get our plants from here. read more

My mother and I were close with owner Steve Skinner and lived with him back in 1981,when we found out just recently that he had passed we went here to buy a tree and planted it in his honor. They were rude, I think he would be sad to know the way they just brush off the customers the way they do,he was a great guy,very kind. read more

We have been going to Alameda Greenhouse for years as they are close to our house. They usually have very good seedlings for vegetable and flower gardens and they have beautiful poinsettias at Christmas. They also have very good prices. Last year we bought 5 Merlot Redbud trees. Four of them did not live. It turns out the greenhouse had the same problem, so they gave us a store credit. This year we returned to buy 4 Redbuds. These are Oklahoma and Texas Redbuds and were cheaper than the ones we bought last year. These trees look very healthy and vigorous. Also, they gave us a gift card for our remaining balance! We feel the greenhouse really worked with us and it was a very good shopping experience. Thank you Alameda Greenhouse! We love that you are so helpful! read more

I love this Nursery! Everyone is helpful and they are experts in local gardening. When I have a problem they have always been able to solve it with their knowledge or with some of their products. Every plant I have purchased has done well in my garden and my freezer is full of the vegetables I raised. It is well worth the trouble to have a vegetable garden with their plants. read more

This used to be my go-to, but I moved away and then back, and have heard that while I was gone, it changed owners. I have a true green thumb, a house full of gorgeous plants. I spent nearly $100 on plants here last spring, and other than the basil, every one of them died. Planted in fresh, good potting soil, filtered light - perfect conditions. They just hung on for a couple months and then died - even the rosemary! I've asked around since and others have said they had similar luck. read more

I just bought a few trees from Alameda Greenhouse, the cashier was so friendly and considerate. I was also looking for sod, and while they did not sell any, she was able to point me in the right direction for Sod. The cost of their items was far less than the other greenhouses. I was also impressed that the cashier informed me to keep a copy of my receipt and tag from the trees so that if I needed to return within a year I would be able to do so. I felt good to be able to support a local business. If you are looking to do some landscaping, this place deserves a visit. read more
