It's the season! Planting season! Plant world is located at El Pueblo and Edith in Albuquerque. While it may appear to be wholesale, if you pay the lifetime membership of $25, you have access. Staff is very knowledgeable and happy to help. Want to xeriscape your yard, they have it, need trees, plants, bushes, Perennials and annuals. Need veggies or strawberries, they have them. How about water features, pots, benches, ceramic dog, metal rooster, or if you need soil or any other garden needs, this is the place. read more

Horrible Experience I went here for the first time and purchased 6 spineless prickly pear. Upon getting them home, I saw one actually had quite a few spines. I returned the next day to exchange it, and was met by the same cashier from the day before. She said she remembered me and my plants and that I was trying to return a plant that wasn't theirs. She then called a manager over who told me the soil in the bucket wasn't theirs and implied that I was lying. Only after I demanded a refund of my $25 membership fee from the day prior did he relent and let me exchange it. While out selecting a new one, I found several more cacti in the "spineless" section that had spines, as well as the SAME soil he claimed wasn't theirs. So, bottom line, they immediately defaulted to accusing me of lying/theft without doing a single minute of investigation. I will never be back, and I encourage others to stay far away as well! read more

Plant World is the bomb. Pretty much anything you could need out here in the SW. Plus you join for a nominal fee and feel like you're part of everything. What a selection of plants and trees and cacti and rocks, plus fertilizer and soil treatments galore. My thing is urban forestry and Kyle is my Go To guy. Fertilizer depletion had compromised my blue gramma area and grubs and whatnot made for a grim situation where even the Robins stopped showing up. He got me going with Fertilome Chelated Iron EDDHA 6%, Bushdoctor Micro Brew, and Maxsea Acid Formula. I hit everything a couple of times with that, then we had to remove 3 inches of weeds and just nasty soil. I then tilled in Happy Frog Soil Restorer and topped it off with Omni Plant Cover. With these fertilizers and soil restoring agents, I planted my new blue gramma seeds and they're just starting to sprout. My little piece of heaven is on the verge of coming back. We came into Plant World today to purchase a Oklahoma Redbud tree... From the moment we walked in we were taken care of by Carrie (cashier) very knowledgeable and helpful! We were then set up with Sara, who took us to the Oklahoma's again great customer service. Once we found our tree way back by the receiving area, a very nice young man assisted us, (didn't get his name, hoping he will be identified as he was very helpful, he called Jessie to pick up the tree and bring it to the front, Jessie was awesome.... everyone that helped us were great...customer service second to none. read more

This place is HUGE. They have a vast selection of plants at pretty good prices. Their peeps seem to be fairly knowledgeable. BUT unless you know about the plants you are buying--like you're a pro or something--I'd shop elsewhere. Last spring, on sort of a whim I bought a very cool plant called a "Blazing Saddles Mangrave" for my backyard. Putting it in a prominent area of my garden, everything was fine and I enjoyed it for the rest of the year. Until winter, the first frost hit and it promptly died like a flopping fish out of water. Mind you, this plant cost me $48 in a 2-gallon container. No warnings about this problem, though every year Albuquerque goes through several frosts. Yes, down at the bottom of my receipt it reads, "No guarantees on plant life." However, nowhere in the tag info and no one on the staff warned me that frost was a problem for this plant. When I called in the off-chance they might help me out with this (I'd be willing to take store credit.) the manager informed me of their policy. I guess I should have asked, but it would have been great if they could have warned me or at least included frost info on the labeling. UPDATE: I was ready to modify this review when Sara, one of the managers here, contacted me with the promise of some help finding a more suitable replacement plant. Last week I drove across town at a time when she said she'd be there. She wasn't. Today I called ahead to make sure she would be available. The staff assured me she was there. The staff uses walkie-talkies to communicate with each other and golf carts to transport plants and people, which is very efficient, even if you might wait a few minutes. Use to love Plant World until stated to look at ornamentals that would be 10 feet tall by 10 feet wide, non fruiting and no suckers. Stated to look at ornamentals. Bought 3 total (1weeping Crabapple and 2 Snowfall weeping cherries). After purchase when raised concerns on different visits they stated they will never get taller than when purchased, don't live where they will reach 10 feet tall, and finally they don't have enough staff to know all their products. wont allow returns. Crabapple fruits like crazy and is horribly ugly as about 4 feet spreading out to 10 feet with copious amounts of suckers. Both cherries sprout suckers and 1has lots of fruit. These were $200 each tree. Would not recommend anymore if you want factual info. I feel ripped off. read more

We seen this place hundreds of time as we drove down the highway. Today was the day we stopped. We had seen some tree roses earlier and liked them because we can keep the dogs away from thorns. They had a wider selection and additionally there were quite a few hybrid trees. So we bought a couple and added some stuff to help with our soil. Since this is a wholesale business - we became members for a one time fee of $25. Our total for roses, soil amendments and the membership was less than the cost for 2 plants at the last place. We have been in the throes of a large backyard project and this was the only place that had the plants (and quantity) we needed during the fall (rather than the summer). After seeing the poor reviews, I was really reluctant to even try here but out of desperation we gave it a shot. Our experience was decent though. The plants we purchased were all very healthy and their pricing was about average for this particular variety. However, their mandatory "membership fee" so you can access wholesale prices is kinda BS. Glancing at some of the other prices of items while we were there, they are hardly what I would expect for wholesale, especially when you're having to pay to even have the privilege of shopping there. They don't negotiate even if you're buying a large quantity either because they're already "wholesale." That being said, they have a ton of variety but the "maps" they have of the facility aren't very helpful so it took us wandering around forever to find the plants that were in stock and there wasn't really anyone around to ask for help. Only after we were in the checkout line with part of our order did they tell us that they could've had all the plants ready for us to just pick up after we wasted about 45 minutes finding them and loading them into the little carts then trekking to the opposite side of the place. Would've been nice to avoid this hassle had we known but ya know...no one around. All in all, it was an ok experience for us- we got what we needed and they were really the only ones to have it because of the time/season but I would recommend calling around to some other nurseries on pricing if you know there is something specific. This nursery caters primarily to wholesale. Retail customers who pay a $25 membership fee are allowed to shop there but don't expect any kind of assistance like you might find in most nurseries. I was looking for a specific type of tree that was listed on their website as having 37 in stock. Unfortunately, I couldn't find the tree. I went to the customer service desk twice asking where I might find it. I was directed to two different locations where I scoured all the trees looking for the one I wanted but it wasn't there. On my third trip to the customer service desk an employee started raising hell with me for skipping the line. He said I had to get in the checkout line with all the people and their carts. Then, once I got to the front of the checkout line, I could go over and wait for a customer service rep to acknowledge me and allow me to ask my question. I saw no signs or directions to indicate that that was the way to get customer service. So I left empty handed. Needless to say, this was a pretty exasperating experience for me. While they have a lot of plants and they look to be in pretty good shape, it seemed that retail customers were an inconvenience to them. My guess is that if you know what you're looking for and distinguish it from hundreds of other plants placed in the same general location, then maybe you'll be okay with this place. For me, I've already paid my $25 fee so I'm going to try it a second time later or see if I can order online for pickup. Wish me luck! read more

I just revamped my entire back yard, and it is gorgeous! I have been wanting to do this for 7 years, but I felt lost in what plants to pick, what was drought tolerant, and what did well in shade or NM's full sun. John Stumpf, the plant concierge at Plant World, was amazingly helpful. He listened, looked at photos, and assisted me in selecting the plants I love. I will even have fruit in the right season, fall color, and flowers in spring and summer. I can safely say I would still be going around in circles without my plant consultation with John. This place is the Walmart of gardening. They do have a large variety of trees and plants, and a lot of rocks and yard ornaments to choose from. Also, just like at Walmart, there is almost no one to help you. They have a lot of attendants, but no one came to ask me if I needed help, or to answer questions. Products are expensive and not labeled well. Most of the fruit trees I looked at were at minimum $100+. The same ones, such as various pears or plums, were closer to $60 at stores such as Rehms. At one point I went into the store to ask about some prices and there was one gentleman at the counter and he was tied up on the phone. Ug. I decided to move on and wont return here. read more

I visited Plant World with a friend and received the best assistance in retail that I have ever experienced. A gentleman, and I don't know if this is his real name ot if this is what they call him around there but his name is Gem and wow, he just that, a real Gem! He had great plant knowledge, knew where everything was located at Plant World which is huge, he even helped to load my friend's purchase which potentially would have been much less if it weren't for Gem and his expertise and enthusiasm for the things they have there. From the product to the employees, I say this is the place to go for plant, landscaping and other needs to really make a yard or outdoor environment look great! You can't buy anything from here unless you pay for a membership. Their prices are crazy expensive already and then they make you pay for a membership. All of the plant prices are "member prices" so they'll charge you double to do a "one time purchase" if you don't have a membership. They even tried comparing the membership purchase to Costco, but Costco actually sells necessities. They also don't have any indoor house plants. Worst nursery in Albuquerque. read more

Been meaning to come for my garden plants and always just ended up at Lowe's or Home Depot. This year I figured I'd give them a try. No one is around to help you chose plants. Their herb selection was bleak to say the least. And honestly their prices aren't any less expensive than other garden centers I paid the $25.00 lifetime membership and $70.00 later walked out with one tomato plant, oregano, basil, jalapeño and zucchini. I completed my garden with Lowe's plants later that day. I really was hoping I would love the experience but I just wasn't impressed. As a kid I would always go to Rowland's and I have these memories of amazing plants and super nice people telling us what would grow well together and what to keep separate. Unfortunately, they didn't wow me and they certainly didn't earn my future business. read more

Letting us know they are a wholesale place and that we needed to get a membership. They were all knowledgeable about what would work in New Mexico and helped us find things. We want to shout out to Sarah, Mike and a young woman (we didn't catch her name) and the field nurserymen who were helpful loading our purchases. we had a lot of questions about what would work in our zone, fit what we wanted, etc. they were so kind and patient while they were slammed with a big sale. A fantastic variety and condition of plants in general. Centrally located and seem to have nice selection of related products. The down side for me is trying to find what I'm looking for. I have spent over an hour trying to find a given plant then had to cart it back over somewhat poorly developed paths. The layout is such that it is a bit of a maze trying to get from one place to another even if I'm sure where I want to go. No staff seems willing to do more than give vague general direction to find my way over a very large facility. Last trip I never did find the mulberry tree and after 45 minutes it started to rain and it wasnt worth it to double back to get the wisteria. The place has great potential but is far from realised. read more

Second time in a row for terrible customer service. This time I asked where the 7 gallon afghan pines were that I had just called about and the young woman not doing much said to look behind the pottery. There must have been 1000 pine trees. I asked for a bit more clarity and got the same response. A male employee observed the interaction and tried to help me locate them. I bought the trees and was able to fit two but had to make a second trip for the others. Upon returning the cashier in the black sunglasses was upset with me that I asked her to call in to have them bring the trees up to me rather than wait in line. She said she didn't know why I came because they were supposed to be closed. Then another female worker who apparently is the person with some plant knowledge at least that just helped me the first time gave me the old stink eye as she walked by. Sunglasses muttered something behind my back as I walked out. I used to be angry at miserable people who are nasty but now I feel sorry for them. As we walked in we were pointed in the direction we requested but were not informed of the $25 membership fee to be able to shop there even after we mentioned we had never been there before. After spending half an hour with no other help, we found a cherry tree we decided to purchase. We hauled it to the front ourselves and got to the counter to pay and at that time we were informed that since we didn't have an account we would have to pay the $25 membership fee if we wanted to buy anything because they are a wholesale store. Their prices for anything there is actually close to 20-25% higher than any of the other nurseries we have been to, so their claim of being wholesale was bulls@&t... We did not purchase anything from Plant World and ended up going to Alameda Greenhouse and buying two fruits tree for less than it would've cost for one tree at Plant World! The cashiers were also rude and rolled her eyes when we decided not to purchase from Plant World because of the membership fee. read more

Got VERY lucky in that only one of the four large pine trees died within 30 days and half a dozen small plants. Shame on me for not reading the sign that faces the counter, in other words, at the customer's back literally..."no refunds". This is a great nursery. It is wholesale, so if you are a private party you will need to purchase a "membership" that allows you to purchase at wholesale prices. Very large selection of plants and trees, lots of xeric plants, natives, as well as standard ornamentals, flowers, vegetables. They also have fountains, rocks, and other landscaping stuff. You generally get larger containers or flats of smaller containers. If you just want a couple of 3" pots, then this isn't the place for it. The staff is nice. They are very busy so you may want to come at less-busy hours. read more

A worker at our house actually stole some plants from our neighbor! We searched everywhere in Santa Fe and ABQ for replacements, and Plant World was the only nursery that had them. They hadn't even been brought to the nursery for sale yet. The staff there went totally out of their way to make the plants available to us on the day we were driving down to ABQ. Amazing and compassionate customer service! Our neighbor planted them yesterday and the little plants have helped. read more
