TLDR: Doctor is nice but the office admin is a complete mess. Not confident I could trust an ongoing care with this office. Details: First time patient and discovered Dr Olivia Butt through the insurance plan. Appointment Making Experience I made an appointment online but had to call when I didn't receive any confirmation. I was then told that their online booking doesn't work so they can schedule the appointment over the phone. We scheduled the time only to be contacted the day before the appointment that the original time won't work and so I had to rearrange my schedule to accommodate. On the day of the appointment, I showed up and the entire clinic was dark with no one at the front desk. I looked around and then saw one of the girls came back from lunch. The girls then asked me to fill out the intake forms that looked so archaic. The actual appointment with Dr Butt was very pleasant. She took the time to explain and performed the annual exam. However, the follow ups were atrocious. I was told to get a mammogram and ultrasound but they didn't send the order to the lab. I had to call to ask them to send the order but several times I called, it went to voicemail. They had me do a urine test and said based on the urine test, they said they may prescribe something to me. When I called to inquire about the test result, they said I needed to make a follow up appointment to review the results which I had but it was a month out. I was then told that I would get a call back with a prescription. And guess what, I didn't get a call back or a prescription. read more

Without hesitation I recommend Dr. Olivia Butt and her stellar office staff. The young ladies at the front desk are so sweet, kind, organized and efficient. I know that if I call and ask them for help with something, it will 100% get done quickly. Dr. Butt is extremely professional, kind and knowledgable. I feel safe, heard and taken care of in her office. She is also lightening fast getting in prescriptions. Dr. Butt worked with me instead of at me and made me feel part of the process in the decision making of my care. I changed insurance and Dr Olivia Butt was the OBGYN that accepted the insurance I now have. I called to schedule an appointment not only to establish care, but to also address pre-existing conditions that were uncovered by a different doctor. One of the issues I had concerns about was fertility. My interaction with Dr. Butt as a first time patient felt rushed. It took 45 min after checking in to finally be seen and I understand that she may have been behind schedule, but that is no excuse to rush through an appt. She didn't make me feel at ease at all and when it came to discussing fertility, she flat out said "You need to do it more...do you understand?" I was appalled by that comment and the delivery of it. Never have I been more disrespected. This is someone who I should feel comfortable disclosing this level of information with, and it was the complete opposite. I don't know if it's because English may be her second language, but bed side manners could use improvement. If you're looking for an OBGYN, look elsewhere. read more

This was so nice, because when I started the request, I didn't have access to EPIC nor did Quest have a copy of my records on their website. Terrible experience, predatory practices. I chose to visit Dr. Butt as I was in search of a new OB/GYN moving across the Bay. I saw decent reviews and she was in network so I decided to go. Getting into the office is kinda confusing as it shares space with other clinics. The office is very outdated. It's feels old & you feel suffocated. The office, tools, and decorations are all from the 90s, if not older - and not in a cool, vintage way. Dr. Butt was fine. Not extraordinary, hence I only came once. I didn't feel like it was a welcoming experience and I wouldn't come back. My biggest qualm was the paperwork and billing experience. Lot of manual paperwork. And the billing is confusing. Seems like their vendor is not efficient. I got billed 3 years later my one and ONLY appt from collections. I didn't receive any phone, emails, or mail saying their was issue with my confirmed in-network PPO. They decided to retract my insurance payment, instead using an insurance that is no longer valid. Healthcare is already so shit in the US. I have great health insurance that the visit should mostly be paid for. But they chose to not contact me and just sent my payment 3 years later to collection instead of resolving the issue. Most office teams are helpful, caring, and available. This team is none of the above. So unprofessional and inconvenient. The collections they use (American Revenue Management) is very difficult to get a hold of as well. By the looks of it, they take more time to response to reviews - which have the same concerns from years back aka they are not fixing it. Evidently, they are not willing to change it. Dr. Butt is an amazing Ob/Gyn. I feel safe every time I come for my appointments, she is easy to talk to. Her office is very cozy and I love the vibes I get when I come in. Not only does she understand my concerns, but her front desk staff does as well and I appreciate her best interest. Her job is an extremely demanding one and she deserves nothing but compassion and understanding, just as she would show to us. My regular PCP office called to schedule an appointment for me as a first time patient, gave them all of my information (insurance member id number) and said that the receptionist that she spoke with said that I did not need a referral to be seen and that they had all my information in their system. Dr. Oliva Butt's office called to confirm my appointment and at no time during that confirmation call did they say that they needed a referral from me or any other type of documents. I also got a text confirming my appointment my 11:45am appointment, never did it say to arrive any earlier than that. I show up at 11:42am just for them to say they can't see me, because they don't have a referral or insurance information for me. I tried calling my PCP's office so they could sent the information over and they said YOU CAN CALL THEM BUT WE STILL HAVE TO RESCHEDULE YOU BECAUSE IT IS CUTTING IT TOO CLOSE TO 11:45 (what office schedules a new patient 15 prior to their lunch time) I had to miss a very important morning of my day just to come to this office so I could just be turned away. I can't say anything about the Doctor, because obviously I didn't get to meet her, but the front office staff lacks communication and accountability for what they do. I trusted my PCP to go with them, but obviously I should've just followed my gut instinct and went to my regular Gynecologist. read more

After reading so many negative experiences that other patients have had not only with Dr. Butt, but also with Dr. Gerdes due to improper billing by MPS, I felt it was necessary. I encourage others who have been improperly billed to do the same. Just to show you how rude and condescending Jeff is, I'm posting a picture of how he signed off his letter in response to the AG. Not sure why the rating is so low for Dr. Olivia Butt's clinic, nor why there are duplicate reviews for the same person, but I will give my own testimony to Dr. Butt's service here. I personally have had a great experience with Dr. Butt and her team, and they also serve as the clinic for my mom. I come in usually for annual paps and can attest that while very personable and friendly, Dr. Butt is extremely professional and knowledgeable. I've had less fun experiences at other gyn clinics, but Dr. Butt is very attentive during the time she has with each patient and is gentle with the paps. No issues there whatsoever. My mom came in during the pandemic due to a breast cancer scare and Dr. Butt was extremely quick to refer her out to a breast surgeon-- and my family is extremely grateful for the quick action, as it ended up being stage 1 lymphoma in the breast. Overall, I am happy with the service of her clinic! Her team/staff that handles the phones is quick to respond and communicative. They were able to solve an insurance question and request in less than a day over the phone and using email. Two years ago there was a slight issue with taking my insurance, as they had dropped my insurance carrier due to fee negotiations but I don't hold that against her clinic because I know full well how frustrating insurance can be and their crazy fee structures for clinics. But I digress. The real review is that Dr. Butt's clinic has stellar service, is in a great location with lots of parking, and ultimately, she's great at her job. I had the worst experience with Doctor Olivia Butt. The only reason I chose this doctor was she did not require a referral. I had the worst experience ever with this doctor. This doctor's office is extremely outdated. The waiting room is so dark and doesn't have proper waiting room set up. Actually it's not a room, it is just by the lobby located in front of the receptionist window which feels like a prison cell. worst customer service I ever experienced at a doctor's office, manual paper work manually, no professional communication skills, the office phone hardly picked up, credit card service charge for the copay. etc. The tools in the exam room are outdated. It doesn't look an OBGYN office at all. I felt like I was in one of a rural area in the developing countries where health care services are hard to find. The doctor is so unprofessional. She told me from the get go she doesn't send the result to my PCP because her office is not in the network. She told me the result will be mailed/ or emailed. Didn't receive the test result via email or mail for seven weeks. During the seven week period, I made several attempts to reach out the office via phone call to check on the status of my test with no success. I decided to drive to the office and I was told the doctor was busy and didn't send out the result. I was also told the office doesn't send out the result via mail (which is conflicting with info I was told during my first visit) and I need to schedule a zoom meeting with the doctor to go over the results. I did schedule a zoom meeting and left the office, however, right after I left the office I received an email from the doctor's office stated that in-person appointment would be best. So I went in person to see Doctor Butt., and I was asked to do the test all over again because the sample she took at my 1st visit was not satisfactory. It was such a frustrating experience. When I asked Dr Butt she should have contacted me if the test failed in the 1st place. She stated thatshe doesn't know what went wrong but the front desk people were supposed to contact me. She was not even apologetic. She acted as if nothing went wrong. All in all, Dr Butt is unprofessional. She puts her profit first than her patients. She has no empathy at all. POC, please don't choose this doctor. Please don't waste your time. As a black woman, my health concerns were completely ignored. This doctor office is extremely outdated and ran poorly. You will receive a bill even if you have insurance. All the equipment is old, and the doctor still uses paper charts and fax . It's impossible to view any of your records on Epic. I don't recommend Dr. Butt for following reasons: 1: Dr. Butt office will incorrectly bill you for wrong procedures and not take responsibility to get it resolved. 2: Dr. Butt instead telling you directly results of your visit has instead has front desk representative call. If you have outstanding questions, need more detailed information, or need recommendation on what to do next you will be left frustrated. 3: If you try to contact Dr. Butt due to billing issues or questions about your visit results including next steps, Dr. Butt is extremely hard to get a hold of. Even my Insurance Company has issues getting hold of Dr. Butt and Dr. Butt is in network preferred provider. In conclusion, I don't recommend Dr. Butt. read more

WARNING seems advisable after reading these reviews. I called my insurance advocacy team and they couldn't get through either. Dr Butt seems to be a competent doctor but the frustration with returning calls and billing is obviously shared by others after reading these reviews and long trail of the same concerns and issues. There are other good doctors that don't leave you feeling like your billing and efforts to reach out to talk to them are intentionally being ignored. I've been calling and have even stopped by the office for the past 6 months and no reply to any calls. I just spoke with my insurance again and they confirmed there is no co-pay required for well checks. I read a lot of complaints resonating the same issue and thus I have decided to look for another doctor. And in the meanwhile my general doctors office said they can provide the same well check needs I require. I have never in over 40 years been charged a copay and had the office repeatedly find reasons to charge and or keep the co-pay. It seems opportunistic. And requiring you to come in and pay another $50 co-pay to discuss the results is out of character for a doctors office. I have doctors in my family and have visited many different doctors for myself and for family members. It is right to take these comments into consideration when choosing your doctor. I am 10 weeks pregnant and had quite an unpleasant experience with the office of Dr. Olivia Butt.  Summary: 1. Making an appointment is not easy 2. Communication is poor and rushed  3. They do not do prenatal care but don't communicate this to a pregnant woman until she has taken the time to come in for an appointment, filled out all paperwork, and done an ultrasound.  Details:  Making an appointment was difficult. There is one woman in charge of answering the phones, registering patients, and doing all intake forms, vitals etc. Getting someone on the line takes forever, and making an appointment involved several calls back and forth, changes of times, and confusion.  Once I was finally able to get in, I filled out all the paperwork, which basically looks like it's been photocopied since1990 with handwritten additions, lines missing, and holes in places where you are supposed to write your name. The woman hands me a urine sample cup and then closes the window. I am thinking she will call me back to do the sample. Minutes later she asks me for the sample and I look at her, confused. Apparently there was a bathroom outside the office that I was supposed to go and pee in, but she never told me that.  But this is where I really got upset: When I go in to see Dr. Butt, she quickly goes over my health record, which includes cancer, and is curt and almost robotic. Most doctors are like, "wow, I'm sorry to hear you went through that at such a young age" or something to at least acknowledge it. Then she tells me we're going to do a transvaginal ultrasound to confirm the pregnancy. No explanation as to why transvaginal versus normal ultrasound, and no choice even though I asked about the other. Then she quickly does the ultrasound, I Facetime with my husband and son so they can see, and she's done. No reassurance that everything is OK, no confirmation of gestational age, just tells me the heartbeat and shows me the head and body.  Once she's done, she quickly tells me she's going to refer me to a doctor who can do prenatal care. "You'll love him, he's great," she says. I am flabbergasted. THIS is the moment she decides to tell me she won't be able to do prenatal care, won't be able to refer me to get any blood work or tests, and won't be able to be my doctor for anything more than confirming I am pregnant. She says she doesn't do that anymore. This is coming from a woman whose contact photo on her website is her standing in front of a wall of dozens of babies she has delivered. That wall is what you see upon first walking into her office.  I am left so confused, and upon checking out, I ask the woman at the front to please help me better understand why, if Dr. Butt doesn't do prenatal care, is there a wall of photos of babies? "Oh, she did that a long time ago," she explains. "So you can't get prenatal care here?" I ask. Then she explains there is a cut off. So I ask what the cut off is. She says 11-14 weeks. I remind her I am 10 weeks pregnant so I would make the cut off. Then she gives me some vague reply saying "Yeah but you are really close to the cut off and we don't really know if you're ten weeks." Literally after an ultrasound just confirmed I am 10 weeks.  So more confusion. I ask what specifically I need to ask for when making an appointment with a doctor. She tells me I need to ask for a doctor who can do prenatal care. So I'm like, "When I called last week and said, I am 9 weeks pregnant and would like to come in to do an ultrasound, establish care, and get a referral for the NIPT test, that wasn't clear enough that I was looking for a prenatal care doctor?  Doesn't that seem like the appropriate time to tell me that Dr. Butt can't do any of this besides confirm the pregnancy with an ultrasound?  This just seemed like a way to make quick and easy money, and it resulted in me wasting a lot of time and effort for essentially nothing. I went to Dr Butt in March of 2023, and had a great experience with her. But when it comes to billing its terrible, She shows in Network as Dr Olivia Butt, But she seems to bill under Dr Olivia Butt medical corp. Its very sleezy of her or her billing department to bill their patients inaccurately. I been trying to resolve it since August and have not received any call backs or email response. My insurance has been trying to contact her and the billing company and no response at all, but yet they have the audacity to send me a second reminder with a stupid red stamp saying its pre collections. How about bill your patients accurately, When I called for appointment, your admin staff said I am covered in Network and just have a co pay. So is your staff not trained well or you just want to squeeze the last dime even if patients have insurance. My doctor had a baby, y 'all! And guess what? She came right back to work like two months later; Yup, she's dedicated! That's what you call a woman that loves her patients...Whoa! My doctor, Olivia Butt, is the BEST OB-GYN I have experienced since I left Kaiser. I feel so comfortable when I visit with her. Talking about lady complaints is not easy. Ladies, its already hard enough being a lady, but things like birth control, having a baby and other lady concerns are always so difficult for me to discuss. I love that Dr. Butt listens, understands and provides great feedback and advice. Being referred to her truly changed my life for the best! I was referred by a lovely Yelp friend, Sierra R. Sierra is right, ladies need to get checked frequently. It's important since our body does so much and let's be honestly, we run the world! We need to make sure our machines are working properly and if not, get it check out, quickly! I go for my yearly check-ups & pap smears and I love that Dr. Butt never says no when I ask for certain test to be done. Health is important, right? Let's not forget her wonderful assistant, Susan! She is always so pleasant on the phone. Customer service is so important to me, and I never have to worry about it when I am here. Susan is always so pleasant and genuinely friendly. Now, the office is small but you just can't help but look and get all googly eyed when you see all the baby photos in the waiting area. I love being able to go in and see all the wonderful work that my doctor has done. You can definitely tell that she is committed to doing her job, and doing it well! I would strongly encourage you to reach out to her and request a one-on-one meeting. She is great! My first visit with her was dry, I admit. But now I feel so comfortable talking to her. When I came to Dr.Butt and described my past medical history of how my acne began, I was offered an array of options and knowledge that could potentially help calm my acne. I was able to get a prescription on the same day and have been diligently using it for my acne. I had the worst experience of my life with "Dr." Olivia Butt and her office. I wanted to schedule an appointment to get an IUD insertion 2 months post parten and this is how it went: To begin with, It took forever to schedule an appointment. Once appointment was scheduled, She postponed it multiple times, once literally 2 hours before I was supposed to come in, AFTER I had already taken the medications I was suppose to before going in. I asked to see the doctor again and she refused to make another appointment to see me even though it was just a video call. Ended up not going in on the day I finally had an appointment because the doctor wouldn't see me prior to that and I wasn't going to make a whole trip just to be told that the procedure I needed wouldn't be done that day. read more

UPDATE. The response from Dr Butt's office below doesn't mention that the office called me and asked me to take my review down. So much for appreciating my feedback! Instead they just tried to make it disappear. They have my records, so it is disingenuous to respond that co-pays are required when there are services provided beyond the Pap. Neither of my appointments involved anything more than my annual wellcare exam and Pap. They know that, but still tried to spin this by introducing the possibility of additional service, which there were none. I love the remark "I am not sure if the above scenario applies to your case." Why not, you have all my records! Dr Butt is a nice doctor, but unfortunately her office uses a scam artist to do their billing. I responded to the call from her office by saying that if they switched to a legitimate billing firm, I'd be happy to take my bad review down. Clearly, they chose not to do that and instead, pretend that Jeff and Medical Paradigm Solutions aren't stealing people's money, then fighting them to not refund it. She knew I had a very important problem for which I even had a surgery and when she saw an abnormal paps smear all she did was let me know through the reception! On top of that was also: Billing issue.... Dr. Butt is amazing and so is her staff. I was hesitant when making my appt because I had been with the same Ob/Gyn for years but they no longer accepted my insurance. I called and they got me in immediately for my annual checkup. The girl answering the phones was super helpful and even nicer in person. Dr. Butt was extremely thorough in answering all of my questions and giving recommendations. She made me feel very comfortable and was very easy to talk to. I know this is long and I hope you read it to the end. Like many on this site I think Dr. Butt was a good doctor and her staff was very friendly. Trying to call her office and have questions answered was extremely difficult.. I once went for an appointment, which I had written on my calendar and was told I did not have one and would have to wait 4 months for another. Then one Friday I received a collection notice from an agency for a bill I had paid. She uses a medical billing agency called Medical Paridigm Solutions which is the company who referred my account for collection. I called them 4 times and the recording set I would receive a call in 2-4 days. The call never came. I also received a second collection letter for another visit-also paid-and called them again-but was never called back. I then received another collection letter for another doctor- Jeffrey Stern who uses Paradigm. I called Dr. Stern's office and they told me they had my check in their office, it had not been sent to Paradigm yet. Yes, iI did send a nasty email to Paradigm, and one of my points was that they never sent me a past due statement, they never called me, rather their first action was a colletion agency. Thank goodness for Joy Chan of American Revenue Management(the collection agency) who helped me settle the mess. The upshot, Dr. Butt fired me, with a letter, no apology, no explanation why. TL;DR version: great doctor, great office staff, really awful choice of biller. This review is actually quite difficult to write but I've been mulling over this for some time and decided I should make some comments... So the 2 star is both too harsh and not harsh enough. Dr. Butt herself, fantastic MD. Her staff has also been courteous in person. I would give them at least a 4 star rating. So... why the 2 star review? I went in for a routine checkup, not even the first with Dr. B. My insurance covered it minus the copay the previous 2 years. Since I haven't changed insurance, I went in for my annual in Nov 2018, happily paid my copay. And then the drama started. After getting back from Christmas break, I received a bill for $300 from the office for my routine checkup. After calling the office, I was informed that the biller "Jeff" takes care of the billing and none of the other staff is allowed to handle the billing side of the business. After trying for a whole month to reach Jeff, I finally got an email back stating that Anthem Blue Cross has denied all services during Nov/Dec 2018, therefore I was slapped with the bill. Alright, understandable. So I reached out to Anthem who said they had a system glitch and they have fixed it and the bill should have been corrected. Just to be safe, I escalated the situation to make sure the doctor's office gets paid. For those who are interested, this process takes about 10 weeks, I don't recommend it unless you absolutely have to. So fast forward to April 2019, I reached back to Jeff after receiving a "pre-collection final notice" on the bill asking what had happened. I stayed on the line as one of the Anthem representatives tried to call Jeff (something I've tried no less than 15 times during business hour with no answer) and big surprise, no answer. I emailed him stating that both I and Anthem tried to reach him. He replied that "unfortunately, phone representatives at insurance companies are limited by knowledge and intelligence. I suggest you make payment to settle the account, while you handle this issue with your insurance". I was disturbed by his level of unprofessional comments, so I reached back to Dr. B's office, where her staff again told me there was nothing they could do. So a whole 5 months after the service date, I paid the $300 bill out of pocket and Ronalyn from Dr. B's office promised that if the Anthem's payment gets back to them, they will reimburse me. Anthem reached me in May 2019 saying that the bill has been processed and Dr. B's office has cashed the check for the bill that I paid for. So I called the office asking about this... and was told that Jeff handles the billing and I should reach out to him about all billing related issues. After 6 months and countless hours on the phone with various parties, I've learned more than I ever wanted to about the medical billing system. So I decided, nope, not wasting anymore time on Jeff. I loved Dr. B for her service and the fact that she cares about her patients' well-being. However, an employer is responsible for the employees he/she has. Using a third party biller is hard, I get it. The fact that one of your patients has to pretty much walk through the entire billing process because your biller can't be bothered to reprocess a bill is just sad. After all this, he is somehow still the only one biller you have employed... I hope it's just a combination of bad luck that I had to go through this, and I really hope none of the other patients has to deal with Jeff (still no last name given, I'm so used to addressing strangers as Mr. so-and-so this is weird). Who knows, maybe he doesn't give everyone the attitude he's given me. Either way, to him, I will award a negative 3 stars. I hope he will do better in the future, or not. Ladies, let's be real for a second. Your life depends on it. And quite frankly, I'd like to see us live long, healthy lives. Get yourself checked out like you're supposed to. And if this is an uncomfortable thing for you, then I recommend seeing Olivia Butt. I'm not getting any younger and know the importance of having a well trained, courteous professional. Olivia and her staff are just that. Located in Alameda's South Shore Center, there's plenty of parking for you. It's also accessible via AC Transit's 20. Her assistant greeted me and gave the forms to fill out. After, I paid my co-pay and waited. There's a small tv that plays a bit of medical tips while you wait. I went back and did the regular stuff such as blood pressure, weight, and then went to my room. The room and waiting area were both clean and organized. Yay. Olivia came in and did a quick check in based on the information I provided. We then moved through the assessment with ease. She was friendly and matter of fact when presenting me with options. She also left the decisions up to me without trying to sway me one way or another unlike my last doctor. Five stars for her and her staff. read more

Saw Dr Butt for roughly 8 months, my endometriosis went undiagnosed (which i understand happens), however i kept coming back in, never getting better and in immense pain. The condition never even came up. I developed an abdominal infection which led to a full hysterectomy. Dr. Butt's answer to all of my symptons: pain pills and birth control. read more

The office is a joke. I called and they said my insurance was accepted. Upon visit and "verification" they shared that I only had a small copay, later hitting me with a bill to pay out of pocket stating that my insurance considered this out of network. What is the purpose of you front desk if they are not verifying insurance? Their 3rd party biller is no use. He offered me 25% off the bill but it's still outrageous. I'm still trying to get a response because that's not even remotely fair. These charges should've been disclosed up front prior to being seen. Not blindsiding the patient later. Ronalyn, the front desk, doesn't know how to properly screen patients and verify insurance. This office has poor practice. 6/5/2019 I will continue to update my review during my interaction with this medical facility. A little over 12 hours after I posted this review, the billing office revoked the 25% discount that was offered at 10:30pm this evening. I never got a call. the onboarding process for a new patient is very confusing. The paperwork was scanned pdf and not legit. The appointment process is confusing. The receptionist is rude. I was asked to pay first before proceeding to anything. There is no explanation of what the process is. I basically need to pay to get a zoom link to connect to the doctor. Worst experience I have ever had with an OBGYN doctor. Never come back again. read more
