If I could rate this facility higher than five stars I would. I have been working on cars for 50 years now and for the first 20 years I would not let anyone else even check my oil let alone work on my car. Due to a break down along the highway between Albuquerque and Alamogordo we made it into town with a bad wheel bearing. This was on April 27, 2017. The shop was very busy but Xavier gave us priority to get our car fixed since we were traveling through. His mechanic was very knowledgeable and did not try to sell us on anything that we did not actually need. As a contractor I have run my business very much the way Xavier runs his and I appreciate his service. If I were in that area ever again whether it was an emergency repair or not I would not take my car anywhere else. I wish I could get him to move his business to Salem Oregon so I could continue to use his services. read more

Needed front brakes, rear shocks and a coolant flush. Alamo Auto charged $151.15 each for KYB Excel-G shocks, part # 3430055. That was for the part only; labor was an additional $203.63. I could find these shocks online new for $50-60, so what, a 150% upcharge? C'mon, Alamo Auto. You can do better than overcharging on parts. read more

These guys were great! My family was moving and were going through Alamogordo. One of our cars broke down on a Saturday night. We had to be on the road Monday afternoon. I called first thing Monday and they were able to get me in and take care of my car. Danny and the rest of the staff were great. They were super friendly and really tried to work with me as best as they could. The price was absolutely reasonable and they had me on the road Monday afternoon. Unfortunately - the alternator in our 4 Runner failed on our cross country holiday trip. Fortunately - it happened in Alamogordo, and we were lucky to find Alamo Auto. Although clearly popular with the locals (they were really busy) they got us in on very short notice on Friday afternoon before the long holiday weekend, and got us on back the road in just a few hours- and all at a very reasonable price! I'll give them four stars. I knocked a star off because I had to take my truck back to them for something I thought they had addressed. This mechanic is more often than not the one I use to service my F100 pickup. Prices are pretty reasonable and the guys are knowledgeable enough on my old Ford to do a decent job. The other thing that I like is that they DO check their work as best as they can. I also give them a big kudos for squeezing a last-minute vehicle pre-inspection that prevented me from buying a Jeep that required some costly repairs. read more

This place is busy, so as a "tourist" I was grateful to be given a slot. When your car breaks down in a strange city, you likely feel pretty vulnerable. A friend of my friend recommended Alamo. Terrell was on the phone giving a potential customer a very detailed explanation of a repair. That was the second boost to my confidence in this place. Then I got a detailed explanation of what would be done to my car as well as the possible outcomes. The next day I got a call that the part had not been delivered and the repairs would be delayed. All that and it was still done in a timely manner. When I arrived for pick up, Terrell said he had taken it for a test run and was satisfied with the result. I drive an 85 Toyota pickup and I usually am able to do the jobs that come up on my own but whenever I need something that takes more time and knowledge then I recommend this place. Best thing to do is collaborate with your mechanic and plan the arrival of both your vehicle and the parts being ordered because that's usually what holds up the entire process. I'd go to drop off my truck but wait two weeks on a part and if it's the wrong part the process is even longer. Save yourself the headache and just buy the part with the mechanic and drop your vehicle off the same day that your parts arrive. But that's if you're vehicle maintenance can holdout. Don't get me wrong I haven't had any issues with any of the employees or their ability to fix my vehicles, our location is practically out of the way for most of our delivery systems so that's why it takes long. read more

My experience with this business was less than professional. I made an appointment to bring my vehicle in for a starter replacement on a 2014 Honda Accord. At the time of making my appointment I was asked to provide the vin number to ensure that the correct part would be on hand at the time of the appointment. I dropped my car off as agreed at 0800. Before I left I asked if this repair was gonna be a day job or did I need to rent a vehicle. I was informed it would not take more than a day and that I would receive a phone call when my vehicle was done. I didn't have a way back home so I walked 4 miles. I waited around all day till almost 2 pm when I received a phone call from the mechanic working on my car that my vehicle would not be ready that day because the wrong part was ordered and they would not be able to have my vehicle ready till the next day. The mechanic also gave me the option to pick up my car that day and bring it back the next day. He informed me he however that I would have to pay extra for labor if I picked it up that day and brought it back. I decided to pick up my care after a couple of phone calls to get clarification as to why my car would not be ready as promised, and why the wrong part was ordered after having my vin number to insure the correct part was ordered, and why it took so long for them to start working on my vehicle when I brought it in at 0800. His response to why it took so long to start working on my car, was that he had a lot of cars ahead of me in the parking lot. That in my opinion constitutes a scheduling problem, which again is not my fault. I needed my vehicle and chose to pick it up that day. However, I didn't feel like I should have to pay extra for labor when it was not my fault they ordered the wrong part. I arrived to pick up my vehicle I asked the mechanic if we could make a deal to compensate for the inconvenience. The mechanic refused to work with me and told me he had done everything he could do. I told him actually sir if you had done everything you could do I would be walking out with a fixed vehicle today as promised. He again said there was nothing he could do. I told him that's fine I will pay for the labor but I would be writing a review about the whole exchange. The mechanic blew up and told me "you know what, take your car I don't want your money, you are just like the rest of the world who wants something for nothing". As I am walking to my vehicle he is still irate and yelling at me from across the parking lot. I threw my hand to up to wave and told him to have a great day sir. Furthermore, he told me that if I wrote a review he would follow it up with his version of how this whole exchange went down. He never ever once offered an apology for my inconvenience or the bad experience I was having due to there lack of detail. read more

I'm new here in Alamogordo and needed to find a good auto repair shop. These guys are hands down the best! And very knowledgeable and super kind and welcoming. They'll tell you if you need a specific maintenance work done or not. I have a 2010 Honda Civic and took it to a Honda dealership auto shop...and they listed all these maintenance that needs to be done and it was $$$$$. So I took it to this place and Xavier "the owner" said I did not need to have any of those maintenance done not for another 30,000-50,000 miles. Overall 5/5 stars and all I needed was a transmission drain and fill. read more

Could not be happier with the service that Alamo Auto Center provided me with today. The whole staff was friendly, knowledgeable and honest. I'm here from out of town and went to the shop with no appointment, but in just an hour they replaced my serpentine belt on the spot for a great price. And they had a very nice waiting area. I asked about my timing belt and they told me it could wait for now, I really appreciated their honesty. My splash guard cracked less then an hour into my roadtrip from Texas, and by the time I got to Alamogordo, my duct tape solution wasnt holding up. I found these guys on yelp, and they took the rest of the splash guard off immediately so that I could get back on my way. Great service and very friendly. I just took my car to get a tune up. Over half of the services that come with the tune-up package and price were not done and they still charged me full price. I was told this $200 tune-up would take an hour and a half. Two hours later I get a call saying there was a problem and they need to change my valve gasket cover and they could have it done in 2 additional hours. 4 hours later I had to call to find out what was going and they said my car was ready to go. I asked the tech how the engine was, he said he didn't hook up to the machine, which is clearly listed on their website as part of the tune-up. Then I ask if he checked my fluids, he said they looked pretty good that I should be fine. Really? $277 and 6 hours later and only a fuel filter, spark plugs, and gasket cover where done. I really can't believe, If I wasn't going to be late for work I would have demanded the bill be dropped, but because it took 6 hours to do 3 things I had no time. This is the most un-professional place I have ever been to, if you do go I would recommend making them say what they are going to do and checking behind them. I'm taking my car tomorrow to another shop, if they say any of those three things were not changed out, I'm getting a full refund, which at this point they should at least stand behind their word and do a full tune-up, since I did pay for it, and waited 6 hours for a 2 hour job! read more

When I arrived, Xavier noted that the priced quoted (by another worker) wasn't inclusive of labor. I informed him I came here because of the lower quote, so he honored the phone quote, politely, not grudgingly. I also needed a mirror (I had the replacement mirror assembly with me) installed, and he quoted a reasonable rate for that. The waiting room was clean and comfortable. Xavier also had his guys check out a problem with a tire and referred me to another excellent tire place in town, Alamo tire. I am an out of towner and feel like I was treated very well and not given a shinedown on prices for services. I have been going here for years. Recently my car was having issues. I took it in for them to diagnose the problem. They weren't sure of the problem, but eventually solved it and fixed it. I went in to pay them, and took it home. The bill seemed high, well Xavier called and told me they had over charged me. I went back and they refunded me the money owed. I was already satisfied with the work. But having someone that's honest is rare these days. If your looking for a honest quality mechanic, bring your car here, you won't be disappointed. read more

This place is fantastic. I have taken it here for oil changes and basic stuff starting out. Once I needed some work on my car, Xavier and his mechanics have been very good about telling me there is a problem and taking pictures of the problems so that I know for sure that I actually have a problem and that they aren't pulling your leg. I have never felt ripped off here before. They even looked over my car before I went on a long car drive for free to make sure all was good. Wow, what a great place!!! Can't believe I've been driving my car all the way down to the dealership in El Paso for the past five years! What do you want in a mechanic? 1) expertise 2) honesty -- and truly, this place is top-notch in both! I also throw in 3) kindness because it's my time and my money and I won't stand for being ill-treated. And these guys are experts, honest, and KIND. I just needed a hose and wiper fluid reservoir replaced but becuz my car is specialized, the parts had to be special-ordered. Well the wrong hose came in and so the mechanic wasn't able to use it, but he said once they got to the problem, it was just a standard hose, so that actually saved me some money. Then it took less time to replace the wiper fluid reservoir, so that saved me more money from the estimate. I can't say enough good things about Xavier, Steve, and Mario and the rest of the staff!
