Got us checked in quickly . Room is nice and comfortable. Ate dinner at the Mexican restaurant inside the casino. Played the slot machines for several hours. Floor staff were also very nice. By contrast.... Roberto at the bar closest to the service and front desk was horrible. Couldn't get my player card to work while trying to play a poker machine and he continued to harass us after we ordered a beer. We had played several hours and had no problems on the floor with the 2 beers we had. He continued to hover and continually asks" are you gonna play , buddy?" Over and over. We were playing but had a glitch with the card not reading my loaded $ on the player card. Asked what the deal was.... we're trying to get the card to work. He said" they are watching" you need to be playing to have a beer. True and also we were playing. Just having a card issue. Finally just told him to take the beer back and went to the front desk to get a new card. Didn't come to be harassed and treated rudely by the bartender. We are paying for a room, ate dinner at the restaurant, playing the slots all day and he was very out of line. Don't go to the bar where Roberto works!

I'm out here traveling east on the 80 with my crew blasting along the freeway at 80 mph (that's the speed limit here!) and the crew is grumbling about getting some food. They didn't wanna wait till even Wendover, cause there might not be any good food way out there. OK, so, I pull into the Gold Dust West. I've stopped here before and I do like the food they have at the Grill coffee shop inside the casino. We get seated and drink orders taken. You know I do notice a sandwich on the menu I never had before. It's the Grilled Cheese Sandwich. Usually I'd think grilled cheese was a boring sandwich you order for kids or something. But I saw it had bacon and tomato in it. You do have you choice of cheese (besides American) and choice of bread. I got it on sourdough and cheddar cheese along with onion rings ($2.00 extra). I couple of my crew got the same but with fries. The other girl on the crew got the Cali Omelet. Our food arrives and I'm surprised at the heft of the grilled cheese on sourdough. I bite in and wow, this is pretty damn tasty! It's not what I expected at all, better! The other guys liked it too and said they'd get this sandwich again. OK, I was impressed with this new grilled cheese and I think they have it at all the other Gold Dust west locations in Reno and Carson City. When we walked in all she said "where's ur mask" and she was helping someone at the counter.. We had our masks on and she never came to ask if we wanted anything thing or welcome or anything..very rude! She was cleaning machines and ignoring us completely. When I cashed out an older gentleman asked About the quality of my drink and I explained it was disgusting but my issue was with the service. I'm received no response from him and on way out I saw 3 people now wearing masks(requirement per NV orders) and drinking . However, if we didn't have discounted rooms, I'm not sure I would've stayed here. The biggest reason is because they don't have a continental breakfast. I understand that with a coffee shop and a diner in the building they feel like they don't need to maybe? Yet I've stayed at other hotel casinos before and usually if you stay at the hotel they give you a ticket for free breakfast at the casino diners. Maverick does not do that... so be prepared to pay for breakfast in the morning. The other disappointing thing is the outdoor pool. I will forever be partial to hotels that have indoor pools that are open year round. Give me a hot tub, please. Otherwise the rooms are super nice and clean. The showers are hot. The WiFi is free. And our room at least had a working AC and heater unit. I also think it's kind of cool that the rooms have a little balcony that actually opens. The rooms also have a mini fridge and a microwave and a Kcup coffee machine, which are all very nice to have. At the end of the day, we took these rooms because they were so cheap... but the no breakfast really is the biggest bummer.

That particular GM wasn't there, but I called to see if they were still honor a comp room for a night, and despite there being a couple years in between my last visit, they still honored that promise. That spoke volumes. My room, was perfect, exactly what I'm used to with this place. Didn't eat at Aspen this time, just some gambling and cocktails. We started off in the back bar, and I can't remember the nice lady's name, but she was on point. WE gambled and drank a bit, then went and gambled a little bit more, and actually won all of our money back, so we decided to sit in the front bar and just pay for drinks so I didn't give the house back the money hahaha Char (pronounced like 'Cher', not Char-Broil hahaha) was our bartender in the front bar. She actually helped us on the floor also before we sat to drink. It was the day after christmas, and their staff was run wire thin, they were covering the floor and bartending, busting their butts. I've never had an issue with service here, ever. It was cold outside, even snowed overnight. Not a single issue with the AC, despite others complaints. Thank you guys again, for honoring your promise from years past. I'm completely satisfied once again, and now I know the calibers back on point, this once again, will be my go-to, and with my new fancy updated players club card! Well today I refused service for a beverage because I guess there is a new policy. Must have $20 and betting 50 cents. I sat down and place a easy $60 but since I was down on the machine I was not allowed a drink. I just think it's crazy because these new policies are no where to be seen in the facility. I'm kind of upset but just think it's over the top to not serve someone a beverage. I clearly am a regular so don't know what the big deal was.

Another girl at the desk inserted herself into the situation and was rude and raised her voice at us. Both rooms my family stayed in had air conditioners that were incredulous when they kicked on. Thank goodness I never have to return to Wendover again.
