Fantastic place to watch a movie. The popcorn was excellent and we through the chairs were so comfortable.

I came to this cinema with two other family members to see a movie and had an enjoyable experience here, we were coming to see part two to a previous movie seen. This cinema has people who will pick up and food or drink (you can order from your seat) and then bring it to you. The service was great and the theater is clean and large. You can do reserve seating here but the seats do not fully incline like others I have been to. I liked the movie posters seen hanging in the hallways to the entrances to your preferred movies and a good sized lobby to purchase your tickets (if you want). read more

Worst theater in charlottesville and in general. Power went out half way through the movie, so then we had to wait 20 fucking minutes for it to turn back on, forgetting what happened previously and starting in the wrong spot we left off like wtf?? Food and drinks took forever, and everything was overpriced, the reclining seats are so loud it's ridiculous; every-time anyone uses it the entire theater can hear. I purposely closed out my check with a zero percent tip because the experience was so bad, and yet they charged me an 18 percent tip which put an overdraft fee in my checking account. Fucking insane when you should have offered the entire theater a refund. I will never return and will tell everyone I know about how horrible my experience was and that this place isn't worth going to. read more

Me and my boyfriend come here from time to time. I've enjoyed their pizza a lot. My boyfriend always gets a burger and enjoys it. They always forget his sauce requests on the side though which kinda bummer but nothing crazy. This most recent time I tried their chicken goat cheese wrap. It was absolutely horrible. I'm very open and love almost everything honestly. The chicken had absolutely no flavor. The wrap itself wasn't warmed so it completely broke apart and the inside stuff just came out and was a disaster. Was extremely disappointed. But we will be back and I will just get pizza again haha read more

Nice experience. Our food was okay, though I wasn't blown away. We tried the burger and fries. The fries were pretty good, and so was the burger although a bit small for the pricing. Our server was great; very helpful with questions. We made the mistake of sitting in the 5th row which meant employees were walking back and forth through the walkway in front of us the entire movie-- some did crouch down which I appreciated but many did not. This Theater had my phone number saw I posted a negative review about there bartender so they banned me. They couldn't except the criticism at the time and also couldn't offer an explanation on why I'm banned. The management here just doesn't give an F about what the customers complaints are. In my case the bartender was rude I made a yelp review about it and got called the next day by Alamo Manager saying I'm not allowed back. I paid for membership there for 3 years before this happened. I'm really torn because the theatres themselves, and the reclining chairs in the front section are really awesome. I just can't get over the food prices. I've never seen someone think so highly of themselves they would sell a HOT DOG for $17.50. A HOT DOG. And the food isn't even good, it's clearly frozen and reheated. With heavy heart I have to write this review. While we were watching the movie the staff was constantly surveying us outside of the door. We could see them watching on a screen outside which made an extremely uncomfortable environment to enjoy the movie in. I suffer from anxiety and going to the movie theater was a favorite passtime of mine. For my first experience within Alamo...it was anything but peaceful. The movie theater was extremely strict, with a three strike rule that they could kick you out without a refund if you violate any of them. I saw them confiscated the surrounding movie watcher's outside food (which was fair) but seem to not return it to them. I find this behavior extremely rude as well as opaque?? Several movie watchers experience was ruined by staff constantly coming back and forth whispering people to turn their phone off. For a company that prizes in perserving a positive moviegoing experience, it seems that the enforcement used by the staff was more than negative. Never coming back here again. Me and my friend were in the back enjoying the movie but some people in the front who were on their phone for a couple of seconds were caught and given a warning. I found this extremely strict cause from the back I could barely noticed anything until a staffer came to talk to them about it. If you are thinking of going to Alamo for the movie theater I warn that, staffers monitors the room constantly, and create such a tense atmosphere that distracted me from watching the film I paid for on screen. Overall, my experience came out as stale, just like their popcorn. read more

The theatre itself is pretty good, but food/drink service is mediocre at best. Particularly for the high prices you'll be paying. Even if you're on the same tab as the person directly next to you, drinks/food will come out at wildly different times. I have been trying out all the local movie theaters in Charlottesville to see which one I prefer. One of my visits was to Alamo Drafthouse. It was a decent looking place. The movie seats were comfortable but the food and service could have been better. The food was cold and it took forever to get someone to come back to fix that. After the movie, I decided to check out the bar. Well it seems bad service followed me because the service was subpar and the staff even worse to the point of being rude. I asked to speak with someone in charge and when that person came, I was met with more rudeness from that supervisor. I should have listened to the locals who warned me it's not a good place to go to. So I'm sorry to say I guess Alamo will not be one of my preferred theaters unless management fixes their problems. read more

A nice theater and I'm a frequent customer but your able young make staff should not be using the disabled/family toilets simply because it's closer to their work station. I attended the 2:00 matinee of Nobody2 on Saturday, Aug 23. I am disabled. I walked from my theater to the disabled bathroom behind a male worker who rushed ahead of me to try the disabled room door handle. Someone was already in it (another worker) so he shot down the hall to use the regular men's bathrooms. I stood and waited for the other employee to exit the disabled bathroom. Not cool read more

Not so great experience last night. Went to see Beetlejuice. The food is pretty good. During the previews and first 10 min of the movie, servers kept hitting my feet as they passed by. Our row was very busy with food service and it became distracting. I "put up a card" to alert them of the problem. The manager asked to walk out in the hallway to discuss my problem, while missing more of the movie. Manager seemed more interested in stroking his beard than listening to me. For about 3 min during the movie there was someone in another theater talking on a mic and it was louder than our screen. Several people reported the noise but were met with frustrated staff and not a lot of friendly answers. Gonna give them a break for a while. read more

Ok. My wife and I followed all the COVID rules. We behaved, didn't go out, wore masks for the very few things we did in the almost 2 years of total confinement. Our first putting was here and we were so happy about their COVID policies on the website for not just staff but for visitors. We appreciated being able to order our food ahead of time (though $80 bucks for movie date night was rough). It was smooth sailing! I took a star off because after the pandemic they took the ability to order your food online away and it is slow service. The ppl attending to you really don't pay attention after your food and beverage is delivered and let's be honest if you are going to pay $80 bucks for dinner and a movie someone better refill my damn water or soda. I mean i can go to a nicer restaurant before or after and get better food and better service for the same price so Alamo as a whole needs to step that up. You can't hire minimum wage movie attendants to be waiters to an entire theater of patrons. read more

My husband and I are movie fanatics and we are so glad a place like Alamo is fairly close by to our home. The uniqueness of being able to have dinner and a movie in one setting is so GREAT. I also enjoy the fact that you can get a beer or cocktail while watching your movie. The themed menus are always a extra little treat that I enjoy. We always get the recliner seats, which is amazing, you feel at home while at the Alamo. I love they sell merchandise too. I suggest buying tickets on their app and skipping the line completely :) read more

This was the first for my wife and I to ever try one of these places. We honestly didn't know how it works. Having done it once (seeing Top Gun II), this is our new way of seeing movies. I mean, why would you do it any other way ! Beer, Food, and a flick! I mean, come on. The tickets were 10.25 and the food prices are actually decent compared to what else is around you. Alamo Drafthouse might be a bit befuddling to newbies such as ourselves, but we figured it out by talking to our seasoned Alamo experts and by reading Yelp reviews beforehand. Our waiter even thought we did well for our first visit!  The two of us showed up early so we had plenty of time to review the menu and get situated. We ordered the bottomless popcorn ($8) to share. The popcorn could've been warmer, but at least it had appropriate amount of butter and salt to soothe me. Ordering was easy enough though I forced my friend to handle it, haha. A little dim to read the menu but there were lamps under the tables. I liked how you were able to reserve specific seats when purchasing tickets online; my friend had secured our matinee tickets ($10.75 each) a few days in advance. Chairs in the front half of the auditorium recline. I'd read that Alamo has strict rules about not talking and texting during movies. Thankfully the other moviegoers were well-behaved but we were attending a showing that was sparsely populated to begin with. The furniture was comfy and the theater was clean. I enjoyed watching the humorous Alamo-made short video before our feature, and there were some other regular trailers too. No qualms with sound or screen. read more

The Alamo is an excellent place to grab popcorn and a movie, but is a pricey full meal. I have come here many times for new films, and I also love the periodic events for older movies -- I recently got to see Harry Potter in the theater here! So much fun. I also LOVE the $8 bottomless popcorn. It is so buttery and delicious and the servers come by very quickly when you put up your little marker. The food here is just okay and is it a bit pricey so I'd prioritize that buttered popcorn and their great drinks. The draft list always has good local options and they have excellent cocktails including spiked milkshakes! This is a cool movie spot in town, I love having it here. read more

Alamo Drafthouse in the 5th Street Station complex represents my favorite place to catch a movie in town. My wife and I prefer viewing movies here despite living 5 minutes away from the Regal in Stonefield. For us, the service model and food/drink offerings at Alamo separate it from the competition. Unlike most theaters, Alamo operates more like a sit down restaurant in that you have a designated waiter who checks you in, takes food/drink orders, and delivers them to your table. Even in the middle of your movie, you can discreetly order extra items and your waiter will unobtrusively drop off your order. While we haven't tried any of the heartier options on the menu (e.g. sandwiches, pizzas), my wife and I have enjoyed the decent selection of local beers, bottomless popcorn with real butter (which costs the same as a small at a normal theater), and the decadent milkshakes. Ticket and concession prices are comparable to similar caliber theaters. You pick your seats in advance, and I find the chairs themselves quite comfortable. Alamo definitely offers the best way to experience a movie for my money, and nothing beats bottomless popcorn and good beer being delivered to you. read more

We came here to see a movie for the first time since the pandemic, and it was a blast!! We watched Black Widow (which is amazing and I highly recommend it but that's another story). It was such a fun night. This was our first time at an Alamo Drafthouse, but the employees were super nice and helpful. The food was decent- nothing too special but it was tasty. By far my favorite movie theater here. I love coming here to watch movies because the prices are good, theater is clean, staff is all really nice, various food and drink choices (I feel like they are usually out of a few kinds of beers every time we go though), their overall food is good for movie theater food (I personally love their baked pretzel and cookies), the seats are really comfortable, and commercials before the film are always entertaining to watch. I didn't know this at the start but the seat section in the front has the recliners and the ones in the back are just your standard seats. Definitely come here and watch a movie if you haven't yet. read more

The Alamo is my go to spot to watch movies recently. I find the concept of ordering and being served at your seats to be pretty cool and convenient and the servers really try their best to be quick and out of your way during the movie. Their shakes are mouth watering and they have a pretty broad range of menu items for a cinema. Both the fish and chips and the fried chicken sandwich were quite tasty; however, would say that the portions are on the smaller side for the price. Honestly I was very disappointed tonight. We ordered food when we got to the movie. It was me, my boyfriend, and daughter. My daughter's food got to us 15 mins later. When her food came I eventually asked where ours would be and was told that my order was out and someone didn't tell me. So I reordered. My food didn't come out until an hour into the movie..... my boyfriend on the other hand never got his food. I pressed the red light two different times. An hour and a half into the movie still his food never arrived. On top of all of this someone in the theatre was smoking a weed pen and it smelled like weed for half the movie. Keeping in mind my daughter is 8 and we're watching a children's movie. Insane and really negative experience for so much money spent. read more

I thought this place was pretty legit. It was definitely better than expected. Everyone kept calling it Alamo Drafthouse, so I was a little confused like, "why do all these dumbasses keep telling me to watch a movie at the bar?" Guess who turned out to be the dumbass ‍. I'm from California, this place is like our Cinepolis. If you've never been to a luxury theater I'd recommended this place. If you are a popcorn enthusiast like myself, I'd recommend this place. We had all you can eat popcorn. I'm not sure if that is a normal thing or we got a deal, but I enjoyed myself. I saw Blackkklansman there. I was the only black guy in the theater which was kind of strange being that I'm from California. What was stranger than that is at the end of the movie when they showed the Charlottesville part all these older white people were crying started hugging me. So now I'm convinced that the people of Charlottesville like to hug. So go to the Alamo Drafthouse, for endless popcorn and hugs. read more

I tried to be fair, but I've had too many negative experiences at this theater. It's a nice theater, and they hold some creative special events, but every time it's something different. When my friends and I have ordered food, it hasn't come until the end of the movie. A few months ago I had a Halloween size snack bag of skittles, and I was told to put it away because I couldn't bring in my own food. The most recent experience really bothered me! I bought tickets for my 16 year old and his six friends to see a movie for his birthday. Dropped him off and when I got back home I got a call from him saying that they wouldn't let them see the movie because they didn't have an adult with them. At 16 I think that is ridiculous, but more importantly, this isn't made obvious on their website. I had to cancel my own plans to see a show in which I spent $40 for my tickets, to drive back to the theater and buy a ticket to sit through a movie with my son and his friends. They insisted I sit next to them also. I will never go to this theater again. There's plenty of other theaters in Charlottesville. Even on the seven dollar nights I choose to go to Violet Crown and pay full price. read more

Not gonna lie: not a big "going to the movies" person. Now that that's out there, let's begin: Before I had a child, I would go to the movies a few times a year for the movies that really looked/sounded good to me. Since having a child I have been to the movie theater three times(once while wearing him as a 2monther that slept through the whole movie and two more times when we got a sitter) So basically, when I DO go out to the movie, I want it to be worth it, I want the theater to be clean and comfortable, and I want good service to make it feel like my sitter and my ticket are worth the money! Alamo fits the bill. Maybe I'm just a newb, but the serious recliners are pretty novel to me, and they are dope! Also, I totally thought ordering while eating would be distracting and mean that my view is being impeded constantly by servers' heads, but that's not the case! The three times I've been to Alamo I have barely noticed the servers at all during movie time and even when they've delivered my food it is quick and seamless and they're good. (I don't envy them their backaches from professional crouching though) The snacks are overpriced, but what do you expect from a movie theater! And what I've tried has been good, so it feels worth it. Their beer selection is good with lots of local drafts, and not much different than the prices of most bars in town. I love having a movie theater on the south side of town, too, so we don't have to go all the way to stonefield or park downtown. I'll continue to go to Alamo, when the rare movie moments strike! read more
