Don't go if you're over 21. The bouncers are rude and unprofessional. One inappropriately grabbed me out of nowhere and began to push me. I asked why and he said I had too much to drink. I only had two drinks and my friend only had one. The way he touched me was unacceptable. They'll let in underaged people but throw out of age people or don't even let them in for no reason. read more

More of a bar than a restaurant, I choose to talk about the later. I came in for an early dinner trying to take advantage of one of their specials. The food was actually really good. It was not standard bar food at all. It was a lot more fancier. The flank steak was tender and had a great sauce on it. The potatoes that came on the side were so creamy. I do love the crackers they serve at this restaurant, better than peanuts any day. I think it's a diamond in the rough. The place doesn't get enough appreciation for it's food. read more

More affectionately known as Coupe's, this bar was named one of the best college bar by Playboy or Rolling Stone (I can't remember which) while I was in college. I never understood that. I guess the beer was cheap, the cheap beer, that is. There is a bunch of seating on the patio out back, which is nice in the summer, with a stage, but the only band I saw there wasn't old enough to be up past 10pm, let alone drink. But that seems to be par for the course. The crowd always seemed very young. I only ate dinner there once to celebrate a friend completing her thesis. The waitress forgot to take our order until we flagged her down half an hour later. Then our food was delayed in the kitchen past the end of the waitress's shift. She left, and no one adopted our table. It was past 10pm before we found someone to track down our order. I suppose that it worked out in the end because I was underage at the time and they started checking IDs at the door before our food ever arrived, thus furthering the problem of the infestation of the young'uns. read more

A fine establishment with an intimate atmosphere and a local vibe. Great outside bar for when things are really jumping and also a inside bar to pull up a stool and get to know one of the premier tenders serving up your choice of tasty beverages. If you are in, ask for Gracie. She will customize a beverage just for your liking; if by some freak stroke of luck the drink doesn't bring a smile to your face her demeanor will. read more

Low lights- *Served three drinks on tap - PBR (which should only come in a can), hard cider (not usually a fan) and Shocktop (the lesser of three evils). *Gets crazy crowded inside with long lines for the one-stall bathrooms. Best college bar in Charlottesville hands down. Coupes always has great live bands and people there are always enjoying themselves. Because it's off the main road, it doesn't have the longest lines. Once you get there, make sure to ask for Peter Sterling, one of the best bartenders and conversationalists in Cville. The food isn't amazing, but the atmosphere and the bar is worth the trip 10/10. There isn't a better bar on the corner. With live music every night, a warm, friendly and unpretentious atmosphere, and the friendliest bartenders in town, why go anywhere else? They provide a strong and varied menu of mixed drinks and shooters, and they always have a nice, healthy pour. I feel like this is a hidden gem, literally. No one really knows where this is since it's sort of hidden on the side and the only way to see is this tall obscure sign that leads you down a stairwell. But I find the inside seating area and outside bar super fun to chill at. The first time I came here I wasn't super impressed with their food, but they've redone their menu since then. Their sliders are very very good, highly suggest trying. They do host some fun events, for example a 15$ all you can eat snow crableg fest- I'm from the beach so having crab legs in Cville was epic. I was introduced to the special drink the "fuckity-fuck" which is like the Fresh Zen of Coupes, or the Wahoo, you know each restaurant's special drink. I like it! It's sweet and potent, very impressed by that. Yo, treat the bartenders nicely, and they'll be good to you, that's how service works. I'd give it a 5 if you're a student looking to get shitfaced. But really, I got sick of Coupe's by the end of my 3rd year. It's known as the bar for first years. It's usually overcrowded and there's a line for the bathroom. If you stick your hand in the kitchen door by the lady's room, you'll find baskets of crackers - they're good : ) read more

Coupes has never been known for their food or as a cool bar. It was popular because because anyone and everyone could get in; even high school students. It is a really small bar, the bartenders are mostly college students and don't know how to make most of the drinks. Sometimes, they have live bands, but they are young bands that are a pain to listen to. I think it is a great trick they play, the drunker you are the less you care about the awful band. read more

If you are in to dive bars then you will absolutely love this place. They have CD's on the wall they play from and you can through one in there an odds are it will eventually get played. Whats really awesome is, they have freakin 2 beers on tap! Bud Heavy and Bud Light. I like a good selection of beer, but I really respect a bad selection. A fully stocked bar and a good selection of bottles is available as well. I seriously recommend checking it out for something different. The cig smoke is intense but in the summer they have an outside patio. I have not tried the food, but if it is half as good as the atmosphere then its worth it. read more

Our family visits Charlottesville periodically and our FAVORITE restaurant is Coupe's. The salads are great and the pulled chicken sandwiches were a favorite for our family. On any given Friday night, I find myself wishing to be at Coupe's for my favorite salad (not to mention that fantastic walnut pie!)Their staff has ALWAYS been very pleasant and helpful and looking after everything we needed! We also love the music on the back patio - nice atmosphere. read more
