I came here with my husband and some friends after a hike. We chose this place because they allow dogs on the patio which is nice and shaded and closed in too. We got the crab dip for appetizer which was super good. For drinks, I got the 10 oz. bold rock IPA. For lunch, I kind of created my own burger which was delicious - hamburger, bacon, fried egg, lettuce, and tomato. The fries were good too. Our server was nice and they brought our water bowls for the dogs which was sweet. It wasn't busy really which was nice since we were a bigger group with dogs so we pretty much had the whole patio to ourselves. Would def come back!

This place is so average it hurts. Food is good but unspectacular. Beer has got a wide variety of choices. But the prices are absurd for what they're selling. $30 for a burger and beer in this economy??? Whatever Somehow I keep getting dragged back here. To the point I'll only eat the southwest chicken wrap and won't touch a damn beer. If there is one shining star on this menu it's the fries. So damn good I may just order those from now on. But of course they offer other "hand cut fries" for those who dare to be different (aka wrong).

A mixed review. Matt was a great server and he was always openly communicated, letting us know the kitchen was behind and the food would take a little while. But really the other reviews, it seems like this is an everyday problem. The runners kept bringing items to our table that we didn't order. The crab soup is a 3/5. I ordered the steak salad medium well and it came out almost rare looking. I didn't send it back because of the wait, but cmon. I will add that the nachos are good and is enough to fill you up though!

Timberwood Grill is great place for lunch or dinner with indoor and outdoor seating. There is plenty parking around the restaurant just proceed with caution. The decor reminds of a sports pub. All the items we ever ordered have been fantastic.. I recommend the Sante Fe burger it's yummy!! The service is always quick and friendly!!

Dependable restaurant with lots of seating and a good amount of TVs for watching games. The cauliflower tacos are AMAZING, the cauliflowers are fried to perfection without being too greasy or having a bad texture.

Stopped in after fishing to sit at the bar for a few beers and check the place out. Decent draft list for the pedestrian beer fan, nothing great for the enthusiast. Nice bar. Friendly bar staff, albeit inattentive at times but ultimately I was taken care of before. I likely wouldn't stop back in for anything in the future.

We arrived around 4:30 on a Friday before the rush started so we received our food promptly and service was good. Very friendly staff who came by regularly to check on us. We ordered wings as an appetizer, the garlic ancho chili wings are the best on the menu if you're considering. Unfortunately that's where the good food stopped. For our entrees we got the Philly and the steak frites. The Philly lacked flavor and the best thing about the dish was the fries. The steak frites I ordered medium rare and came out, well very rare. They were also sliced phenomenally thick, had little to no seasoning and the same can be said for the vegetables. I'm not sure who wants half of a pepper as a side, but it's not me. The mushroom sauce was okay but tasted like it came from a packet and barely was heated from there. For the drinks, don't bother. Beer, cocktails, just not worth the calories. I was really hoping the cocktails would save it but they were watery and just tasted bad. Overall for a $90 dinner, I just expect better. If you're looking for appetizers to watch a game or just want a coke and fries, this is the right place, but for dinner or a full meal, I would pass.

Great wings and homemade ranch. Salads are always fresh too. Kids option are fairly varied and alcohol selections are good.

Service is good but the tables are tacky and sticky and the food was bland and not very good. I had the steak salad.

A great experience. We sat at the bar and service was great. Choice of sliders, what a deal.

My husband and I came here with our 2 dogs a few weeks ago while in town to go hiking. We saw…read moreonline that they had a very large, pet-friendly beer garden, so we came here after a long day of hiking to relax with some beers. When we arrived, the parking lot was very full and we quickly realized that they had trivia going on inside. While working our way through the taproom to go outside, we had to walk past a table that is right next to the patio door. It had a big trivia group around it and they had a very reactive dog that lunged and tried to bite both of our dogs. Not a great start to our time there. Once we got outside, we realized we could sit anywhere because not one other person was outside. I stayed by a fire pit area with the dogs while my husband went inside to grab beers. He came back with our first round and we planned out some more places we wanted to go to in Charlottesville during our stay. Not once while we were there (for 2 hours or so) did a single staff member come out to check on us or offer to turn on the gas fire pit. My husband said that the woman at the bar the couple of times he went up there was friendly enough, but there were several other people on staff that didn't acknowledge him/us our whole visit. As it got closer to closing time, we noticed people leaving, but the parking lot seemed to stay full with the same amount of cars. I'm not sure if there is a car repair place nearby and they share parking or if 90% of the people inside decided to ride share home, but it made us think for a long time that a lot of people were still inside for trivia night. My husband went inside to close out and saw that only one other table was still there, so we packed up our stuff we brought for the dogs and went to head inside to leave after finishing the last of our beers. We took our empty glasses up to the bar and the last table inside had just left, so we were the last customers. The woman standing at the end of the bar completely ignored us, didn't thank us for coming in, and stayed on her phone the whole time. It was just super rude and only enhanced the overall unpleasant experience we had during our time there. The beers were good and they seemed like a popular spot for a trivia night, so maybe it's better to visit and stay inside, but we didn't have a good time and wouldn't come back if we are ever in town again. I did really like that they had a community area for fresh food for people in need.

Kardinal Hall hits that perfect Charlottesville sweet spot: great food, great beer, great people,…read moreand a space that feels both fun and thoughtfully designed. My Wahoo daughter brought me here during Family Weekend, and now I totally get why this place is a UVA favorite. The building itself is part of a beautifully restored historic industrial complex off Preston Avenue. It's an adaptive-reuse space (formerly part of the old Coca-Cola bottling works), and the design keeps that industrial character alive: tall ceilings, exposed materials, and a layout that feels open, social, and easygoing. The outdoor area is especially smartly done. They've got roll-down fabric walls and overhead heat lamps that keep the patio comfortable even when the temperature dips. It's basically an all-weather beer-garden vibe, and it works. Here's how our meal went down: * Shared starter: the Jumbo Bavarian Pretzel. Warm, soft, perfectly salted, and killer with both the mustard and the cheese sauce. * My entrée: the Local Steak Salad -- gorgeous presentation, tender grass-fed beef, and those pickled turnips, radish slices, and greens in herb buttermilk dressing absolutely tied it together. * My daughter's entrée: Bratwurst, which disappeared quickly, so that tells you what you need to know. Service setup is counter-service for food with table drop-off, and drinks are ordered directly at the bar. It's efficient, friendly, and gives the whole place an easygoing "European beer hall meets Charlottesville neighborhood spot" feel. Kardinal Hall is one of those places where good food, good architecture, and good energy all line up. If you're in town -- especially visiting UVA -- this is a must-stop.
