We were looking for someplace close to our hotel that had a good selection of beer and a good food menu. Timberwood Tap House had both. It was walking distance from our hotel, but given the major road between the hotel and the Tap House, we decided to drive. The food and beer were good. The interior is comfortable. I came here with my husband and some friends after a hike. We chose this place because they allow dogs on the patio which is nice and shaded and closed in too. We got the crab dip for appetizer which was super good. For drinks, I got the 10 oz. bold rock IPA. For lunch, I kind of created my own burger which was delicious - hamburger, bacon, fried egg, lettuce, and tomato. The fries were good too. Our server was nice and they brought our water bowls for the dogs which was sweet. It wasn't busy really which was nice since we were a bigger group with dogs so we pretty much had the whole patio to ourselves. Would def come back! read more

This place is so average it hurts. Food is good but unspectacular. Beer has got a wide variety of choices. But the prices are absurd for what they're selling. $30 for a burger and beer in this economy??? Whatever Somehow I keep getting dragged back here. To the point I'll only eat the southwest chicken wrap and won't touch a damn beer. If there is one shining star on this menu it's the fries. So damn good I may just order those from now on. Food was great! My wife had a Clint Eastwood burger that she said was amazing! My son had some chicken fingers which weren't anything special but they were cooked good. I had the pastrami Reuben. I've been all of over the world and had many different styles. Rating it would be a 4/10 in my opinion but it was still good, just need more dressing. Overall, this would be better a 5 star if our waitress wasn't so dull. She looked like she was having a bad day so I still gave her a good tip. But really the other reviews, it seems like this is an everyday problem. The runners kept bringing items to our table that we didn't order. The crab soup is a 3/5. Family and I came up to visit our grandson for dinner. The hostess was very accommodating placing is in a quieter part of the dining room. Cory was our waiter - working on his 2nd shift. He was knowledgeable about the food choices, steered my to a new dish, was very personable and focused on ensuring we had good service, and good food. He succeeded on all counts from the filet, to the wild mushroom ravioli with shrimp topping, to the honey fire steak tips. Flavors were good, service was excellent and the price reasonable. We were not disappointed! Our server Ben was a treasure. He gave us great recommendations for beer and food, all of which resulted in a delicious dining experience. He even advised us to get a mix of fries, since Timberwood has both house and fresh cut fries--both were good, but their house fries were better. For our entrees, we ordered different burgers off their menu, all amazing. Their burgers might be the best part of their menu because of the variety of toppings on each. Waitress faked being happy, wasn't genuine at all, though previously I tipped her well, and had intentions of tipping well again, until I realized ahe was faking being nice. The salmon was dry. We had a good experience and received great service. On a fairly busy Sunday afternoon, we had to wait about 25-30 minutes as they correctly estimated upon our arrival. The appetizers that we tried (nachos, crap dip, and calamari) were all delicious. The calamari could've used a little bit more seasoning but it was cooked well. The side of fries with my sandwich were crispy and well seasoned. The eastern shore grilled cheese was amazing and basically perfect: incredibly cheesy, crispy bread, and filled with crab meat (they didn't scrimp at all). We arrived around 4:30 on a Friday before the rush started so we received our food promptly and service was good. Very friendly staff who came by regularly to check on us. We ordered wings as an appetizer, the garlic ancho chili wings are the best on the menu if you're considering. Unfortunately that's where the good food stopped. For our entrees we got the Philly and the steak frites. The Philly lacked flavor and the best thing about the dish was the fries. The steak frites I ordered medium rare and came out, well very rare. They were also sliced phenomenally thick, had little to no seasoning and the same can be said for the vegetables. I'm not sure who wants half of a pepper as a side, but it's not me. The mushroom sauce was okay but tasted like it came from a packet and barely was heated from there. For the drinks, don't bother. Beer, cocktails, just not worth the calories. I was really hoping the cocktails would save it but they were watery and just tasted bad. Overall for a $90 dinner, I just expect better. If you're looking for appetizers to watch a game or just want a coke and fries, this is the right place, but for dinner or a full meal, I would pass. read more

The food here is excellent. The staff are so friendly and the place itself is welcoming. Got here at 10:15 PM and no one said anything about "we close in 45 minutes". They just jumped to taking care of business. Craig Shoaf and Kaleen Yoder were tending bar and made us feel like we had been forgot years. Craig made me a few Bloody Mary's and I must say, top notch. Stopped off to grab a quick bite and a beer for 20 minutes before our kid's soccer game. No worries, right?!? We thought we were on candid camera. Walked in and sat down at a bar top table. The waitress walked by and served the bar top to our left. Then walked by again without acknowledging us. Then walked by three other times with not so much as a glance. I went to the bar to get a menu. There were three bartenders all moseying around not acknowledging us not getting service. The next time she came by and didn't notice us sitting there with a folded up menu at the end of the table notifying we were ready to order, she was about to pass by, and my wife asked her if anyone was serving the table. The zombie waitress muttered "I'll get it." And walked away. Get it?!? The server or another menu?!? We didn't know. So we pulled up to the bar and sat down to hopefully get better service. The bartender immediately greeted us and washed off the bar top in front of us. Took our order, Guinness, an IPA, and fish and chips (specifically we said 2 Tartar sauces). He then proceeded to first put in the food order, second pour the IPA, third, serve it, then put the glass down for the Guinness and start the pour. Anyone who knows Guinness takes the longest to pour because you have to pour half of it and let it sit and settle before pouring the rest. (Sigh) The fish and chips were okay, the fries were pretty good, only got one Tartar sauce, and the fish were two identically shaped triangles (like you get kids at Walmart) that was dripping with grease. The bill for fish and chips, plus two beers was $36. $16.50 for the fish and chips, $8.50 for a draught of Guinness, and $8 for the IPA. Wow. The place was clean but that was probably the worst service I've ever experienced. They had around 15-20 workers, and around 15-20 customers when we came in. We arrived on a Thursday in November around 1:00pm. They were very busy. We sat in the bar area at one of the tables. Service was pretty good considering how busy they were. We were able to try a couple IPA beers before choosing the Maine Beer Co Lunch. They have lots of beer on tap. They have some very creative names on their menu! We ordered the Durango chicken salad and Effkatt's Unaffected Beauty turkey croissant sandwich. We asked for Cilantro lime and Mexicali ranch dressings for the salad. We preferred the Cilantro lime. The salad was full of fresh lettuce, fresh salsa, cucumbers, cheese and 4 slices of grilled chicken. Quite tasty. The turkey croissant with the original fries was also very good. We had a great experience at Timberwood Tap House the other night! The food is good, the wait was super quick and the patio was a great place to sit at night. I had the crab bisque which was delicious and the fish and chips entree. The fish was really well flavored and the batter was good. Our server Tessa was fantastic! The prices are all reasonable in the 10-15 range which is normal for the area. Overall, it's a decent spot for a burger but there's plenty of other things on the menu as well. I'm a big fan of timberwood grill up on 29 and am glad the service and food are just as good as the OG restaurant. read more

We were tourists for the weekend and looking for a place to grab drinks. Downtown Charlotteville was very slow due to Covid and bars only being outside for the most part, so we ventured to a more "chain" type. Stricter Covid policies that I have probably seen anywhere, but they were very clear before you were seated so no problem there. You will be wearing a mask even seated at your table when the wait staff is at your table if you choose to sit inside. We ate three apps and had several beers. Beer pricing was fine. About $6/glass for craft. Only complaint was the beers were served in glasses that were warm the first two rounds (I asked for a chilled glass after that and they obliged). Decent burger, my fries were amazing. Crispy, flavorful, mushy on the inside. My parter got a sandwich and his fries were different, more like steak fries, so I would ask for the fries that come with the burgers. Our server, Holly, was wonderful, attentive but not intrusive. We are no strangers to Timberwood Tap House at 5th Street Station. We have noticed a downward trend in the food and service, but that happens sometimes. Hubby had his back adjusted this afternoon and we decided to have lunch at Timberwood, since it was right across the street. First thing we noticed was that some of our favorites are gone from the menu - OK, we'll choose something else. He had a cup of chili and a chicken wrap with side salad. I ordered the crab bisque (cup) and the giro with side salad. We both ordered ciders. It took a while to get our ciders, even though the restaurant wasn't very busy. After we got our ciders, they brought my crab bisque and hubby's entire order. I finished my soup and waited. And waited. And waited. Started to fume a bit. Just as I was about to get up and get someone, they finally brought my giro. The server apologized and said he'd discount our bill for the food. Yeah. We were given a 20% discount for the giro. Service sucked. Now, as to the food. The crab bisque was OK - it was hot! The salads were fresh. The rest of the food? Flavorless. Seriously. The giro? I couldn't swear the 'giro meat' WAS meat. I certainly couldn't taste any meat! What I tasted was fillers. The sauce in the giro was 'off' - had a flavor as though left out of the fridge too long. Hubby's cup of chili was so bland he said he couldn't pick out ANY individual flavors for the ingredients. "Blah" is what he called it. His chicken wrap? He said he'd take their word for it being chicken meat, that it had very little flavor. All in all, the only GOOD part of the meal was the cider. I think it will be our LAST visit to Timberwood. There are many MORE restaurants that actually take care of their customers and serve FOOD at a reasonable price. read more

Burnt Burger, No Spirit, Long Wait I despise giving 1 star reviews. I have eaten at the Timberwood Taphouse/Grille restaurants since 2013. I've had my share of great food, mediocre food, and passable food at both locations. This is the first time I have had bad food, bad service, and bad vibes at the restaurants. Look at the attached photos. The burger that I ordered medium came overcooked and burnt. Everyone else at my table who ordered a burger (5 other people) ALL HAD OVERCOOKED BURGERS. Had we not been on a tight schedule (we were going to a movie afterwards), we would have most certainly sent the burgers back. Everything else we ate was mediocre, lacking both flavor and color. Speaking of lacking flavor and color, what restaurant or bar doesn't decorate for the holidays? I might not have noticed that there weren't any decorations had the wait not been over an hour long! Just avoid this place. It's been going downhill for awhile now. Take your money to Al Carbon, Mochiko, or even BurgerFi! This place just isn't what it used to be. read more

Stopped here for lunch while traveling through Charlottesville. Initially, the service was good, but once the trainee moved on, our waitress was not as attentive. Food was average, nothing to write home about. In spite of that, our waitress tacked on a $7.30 tip to our $29.80 bill, and the receipt read VISA Debit card (chip) when we paid cash. I'm not from Charlottesville VA and asked the hotel receptionist to recommend a good restaurant during my stay and she recommended this restaurant. I asked her what's good. She replied everything. I'm from Orlando and have been all over the Orlando area to both good and bad restaurants. This little restaurant tucked away in a shopping center tops many of Orlando's restaurants. Atmosphere is good much like an ale house or sports bar but the handmade drinks and food is out of this world. Prices were well within reason.
