I rented a car from Alamo through Costco, but the manager on duty (Morgan) refused to rent me a car because she had never seen my Arizona drivers license before and it did not have a bar code. Costco confirmed that Alamo has the ability to manually enter the drivers license information, but Morgan refused to do so. Fortunately Hertz was more than willing to rent me a car. read more

The worst experience of my entire life with Alamo at the Clearwater airport. We arrived on the evening of December 19th at 9pm and there was no-one either at the company counter or in the car collection parking lot, even though it was indicated at the counter that someone would be at the parking lot. Despite several trips back and forth between the two and over an hour and twenty minutes of waiting and calling to the Alamo support service, no one was there. The staff at the Avis/Budget counter next door, as well as the policeman on duty that evening, told us that the Alamo staff had already been gone for hours. The policeman even told us that it wasn't the first time that staff hadn't been there and that customers had gone home empty-handed. We decided to come back the next morning at 9am. And there we had to deal with an employee, and then above all with the manager, Madame Gaby. Apart from being unpleasant, she was particularly dishonest. Far from apologizing for the inconvenience caused (postponement of our departure, 2 trips to the airport, etc.) she didn't see the problem, claimed that the staff had been present the day before, wanted us to pay for the lost day, and indicated that it was up to the broker company to sort it out (which we disagree). In the end, she decided not to give us the car when she realized that it had already been paid for via the broker company. After looking for many excuses (name of our car insurance on our home country, type of driving license...), she finally claimed that there was a problem with our 3 credit cards for the deposit of one dollar without ever asking us to enter our PIN codes, show us the screen with the refusal, or give us a refusal batch, despite our requests. We then withdrew some money right next to their counter to show that the cards were working. However, she refused to try again, as it would be the Alamo policy not to try twice. From the moment we complained about the absence of staff, she did everything to avoid having to acknowledge this and not give us the vehicle, openly mocking us. What kind of sensible person would do that to a family with 2 small children? - She kept lying to us, changing her story or inventing new pretexts or rules not to give us the car. - She refused to give us any proof or stamped document indicating that we had come and that she hadn't given us the car because the card didn't pass. - She ordered her employee not to try our credit cards and to rent us the car. The employee then admitted that she was in a position to do so, but that she couldn't go against an order from her manager, who just didn't want to give us a car. She did indeed ask her again, but again she refused. So we rented and paid for a car at the Avis/budget counter next door in 5 minutes, right in front of them (947 dollars). This person should never be in contact with customers except for the purpose of ruining her company's reputation. It was a deeply shocking experience, I never met somebody intentionally willing not to to help or find a solution but to the contrary trying to take some kind of pay back while she was the one not present at the counter in due time. read more

My husband rented a car in November. While parked in the condo garage, oil spilled out all over the pavement. The car was not drivable. Because it was parked in a low garage, he had to push it to a parking place on the street for Alamo to tow it. He then had to take an Uber to the golf match he was in town for. While the car was parked on the street, it got a ticket. It was 2 hour parking. Alamo refused to pay the $70 ticket and charged his card on file. He had to take 3 Ubers that weekend and was only reimbursed partially for one. Terrible customer service read more

I would have rated this higher but I feel like I was lied too about the rental car I got through Allegiant and this is the only way I can convey what happened. The company that supplied it was Alamo. When I showed up at the check in they wanted another $44 in taxes. Which I was NEVER told about. I ended up spending waaay more then I ever would have had I rented it privately. I was told at the rental counter that in tiny writing there was a notice on it that taxes were not included. It was 11Pm at night and I had no other option but to pay the $44. It was very much so done to trick me into thinking I was getting a reasonable deal. I have posted this review on multiple boards and intend to continue to do so to warn others about this. Its frustrating and deceiving. The service lady was nice but considering that I felt trapped into a ridiculous rate for a tiny car, I will never use them again. read more

Quick, easy, smooth in and out. The car we had was nice but wasn't cleaned very well when we got it. Is this new standard practice with car rental companies?! If it smells like people and has any indication that someone else spent a week in it, I want that sanitized and perfumed before I drive it. I had a good experience. Short queue (someone managing it as well), nice car, nice check in/agent. Yes, they were upselling pre payed gas - but I declined. From check in to walking away with the keys was quick. Short walk to the actual car. Only recommendation is they should explain the toll/pass situation at the counter, we were trying to figure it out as we approach a toll (high level I think is you pay $3.95 for a toll by plate set-up). Upgraded car, for $20 and was good value - ended up with a very nice Infinity SUV. read more

Picked up a car here on a recent trip. Booked online with an Allegiant air package, was surprised with a few more fees at pickup. Fees, fees, fees, surcharges for everything. Mercy. I'd expect nothing less from a rental car company really though. Line moved fast at the counter and the employees were very friendly and efficient. I had a choice of a couple cars in my price range and I opted for a Nissan Note, super cute, small, but perfect for what I needed. Great on gas! Zipped around in it for a week and returned at the airport. Super simple, they had car hops right outside taking the keys. I would most certainly rent from Alamo again :) read more

The car was in good shape. The staff was very helpful given the situation. I had to wait for 1 hour and 15 mins to get the car. The staff were overwhelmed and they said they did not have enough cars. When I visit Clearwater again, I may find another provider as Alamo seemed overwhelmed. read more

My First Car Rental Service in US and I am glad that I chose Alamo!!! Perfect in everything!!!

Renting the car and getting the keys was easy. The rep in the airport was kind and professional but honestly I think that is the experience where ever you rent. After all they got what they wanted the sale. What has got me livid is that this location has refused to pick up the phone or call me back. About 45 minutes after I turned in the vehicle I had rented, after making it through airport security I had realized that my phone was in the vehicle. I had no choice but to board the plane. I called and emailed immediately and have had countless attempts to reach them. I used the find my iphone feature and my phone was clearly in the parking lot where we returned the vehicle, at least for the first day. After that it made its way across the street to another parking lot and now all the way to Tampa International Airport Enterprise. Still no call just emails that say "Thank you for choosing Alamo for your car rental needs!". I just now got an email that stated they called and left a message to let me know they didn't find my phone. Well ALAMO I bet you called my phone number on file rather than the provided number. That phone that's in the car located in another city. It would have taken 20 minutes in total to help me and now it's too late. I have to buy a phone put of pocket, that's $1200 because you couldn't just look in the car for me. I can see it was in your possession. That is really sad that a company doesn't care about their customers. Not to mention you clearly didn't clean the vehicle if you didn't find it. GROSS and AWFUL service. First time renter will never return and I will make sure I tell everyone I know to never book with you crooks. read more

After reading a few reviews from others I was a little hesitant what my experience would be like, but I honestly will say it couldn't have been any better. I arrived at the airport and headed over to the Alamo counter, where there were a few people in line ahead of me, they had 3-4 staff members helping guests out so my wait was very minimal. Once waiting my turn the guy helping me was super friendly and ended up giving me a complimentary upgrade due to them not having any standard size vehicles left. I received a Nissan Altima- my car was clean and was a great ride for me while in Florida for the week. Overall, booking was great, price was great, as well as my vehicle and the customer service. I would recommend using them to any friends and family and I will definitely use them again in the future if I return to the same area in Florida. read more

Customer service is ok, but the air freshener they spray is nauseating. If someone smokes in a car, take it out of circulation until the odor is gone. Don't just dump Febreeze on the seats. The smell was so strong that I went back in the terminal and asked for a different car, but, lo and behold, all sold out! I had a migraine after 30 minutes. PLEASE charge the smokers more as a deterrent. The air freshener is not doing it for me. read more

Worst service ever from a car rental agency. Arrived at the airport a little late from a delayed flight. Then we spent a full 90 minutes standing in line. Not a chair or bench anywhere close. Alamo and Enterprise share a Kiosk. No cars were available after check in. They need to take a lesson or two from the Emerald Isle commercials. Take any car and go. Too many people standing, waiting and getting frustrated. read more

Reserved a premium large car online. Arrived late to the rental counter as our flight was delayed (I had called to inform Alamo that we would be late) and there was only one vehicle left. Everything else had been checked out. We ended up with a Town and Country Mini Van, which was fine. But, the "oil needs changed" light was on the whole week of the rental and the automatic transmission had some major shifting issues. There was only 38,000 miles on the car and I was also a bit surprised to see the original tires were not on the vehicle. They were some off brand replacements, which did affect the ride some. All in all, it was OK and we reported the issues when we turned the van in. Might want to consider maintaining your vehicles better. Lee C. read more

The agent that I dealt with (Randy) asked me if I wanted insurance, I said NO. He did ask me if I wanted the basic rental I told him yes just the basic. Well...want he meant by basic rental was the insurance, he added on some kind of "basic" insurance (CWD?) that was $14.99/day more. He never showed me the receipt just stuck it in the folder and handed me the folder. After I looked at my receipt, fortunately before getting the car, I noticed the additional charge, which by the way was already charged to my card. I went back to him and reminded him that I said I wanted NO insurance coverage and that he never asked me if I wanted this CWD specifically. Then he wanted to argue with me and tried to say he asked me twice. My advice to renters at this facility, or all facilities for that matter, that you double check everything before they run your card. I feel that Randy tried to slip in the insurance charge because they DO get commission on insurance sales as well. I asked him for a free upgrade for the inconvenience of waiting in line again so he could correct the charge and for even having to go back to him. He never answered me, he was too busy updating the computer screen to answer me, not a good multi-tasker I suppose, or is it that he was ignoring me. I then said "are you going to answer me" and he got a bit snippy and said "you want a free upgrade?" and went to get the keys for my upgrade. I guess he was ignoring me... Not a very good experience, just be cautious. read more

Good car, excelent price trough Costco Travel Site but not a very friendly experience at check in time at PIE aitport. The lady at the Alamo counter was very friendly at the beginning until I declined the vehicle upgrade and all the types of insurances and extras that they try to sell to you. She also didn't like that I had a free extra driver as part of the Costco deal that I got, she didn't even mentioned that to me until I showed her the Costco receipt that showed the additional driver fee waiver. Other than that the experience was very good and the return process was very quick and easy. The car was like new and clean and the price was very reasonable. read more

Like others, I waited a little bit (15, 20 min max) for my car even though we reserved ahead of time. Edward was very professional though and kept us updated several times as to when the car would be arriving. He also comped the gas charge because we had to wait, so we could bring the car back empty, which was really nice! read more

The bad part was that the car had been smoked in and smelled terrible. They tried to cover it up with Febreeze but did little to hide the odor. The car was brought up to me and after waiting 10 minutes so I just jumped into the car and the delivery guy ran off. The air was blowing full blast so I did not notice immediately. If we had not been pressed for time we would have exchanged it but were already behind because of a bad storm. Very disappointed they would rent a car like this. read more

These people are thieves. I rented a car from them on 6/22/2012 and returned it on 6/29/2012. First they charged me 7 individual days instead of the weekly rate. As if that isn't enough, they are now stealing an additional $320 with full acknowledgement that I do not owe it. The account was paid in full as of 7/3/2012, but they keep putting an additional charge on my card in a pending state. When the charge would be posted or fall off they cancel it and place a new charge. When I asked them to remove the charge they said they would only remove it if I contest it through my bank. My bank wont contest it until it posts leaving me with no recourse. Purely a malicious act on their part. Only rent from these con-artists if you want to get robbed blind. read more

Tampa PIE June 11, 2016...arrive after 8, baby in tow with all the bagged things to mobilize said by yhis time, tired baby. Reservations made a week in advance, and we waited 30 minutes, rented a 35$ taxi transport for fussy baby, Mother, and Grandparent. 10 minutes more and husband/father was getting keys to the SUV vehicle. Snickering at us for taking the situation into our own hands? Maybe, but some of the people in the "crowd" of people surrounding the rental counter had been waiting there for an hour. We inquired!! The ford explorer was dipping and clean, rode well, and our gas tank could be returned empty. The clerk, a heavy set tall cheery guy was pushing his ceshere grin to the max.. a very stressful situation, and repeated info...this guy was tops, performed professionally. Alamo!!! 40+ minute waits are a sign of poor planning to meet expected reserved vehicle demand. A line for 'pre reserved' clients!!! read more

I made a reservation through Allegiant airlines with no issues and got a a good rate. Better than I could find anywhere else. I read the fine print, no word on if I would have to shell out anymore money, and reserved. When I was at the counter to pick up the car, thinking all I need to do is sign a paper and get the keys, the salesman said that I had to purchase insurance even if my personal car insurance covers damages if they were to occur. Reluctantly, I went ahead since I already purchased the rental through the airline and wasn't going to continue to argue with the salesman that didn't give a darn. So, needless to say, I ended up paying an additional $164 over the $190 I already paid to rent the car. I haven't called Alamo directly yet, but I plan to and hopefully will get the additional $164 credited. My advice would be to call car rental places (or airlines) to reserve and talk to someone to make sure there aren't any hidden charges that they don't even put in fine print. read more

Alamo asked me to review them, so here goes. Meh. The rental counter guy was super-aggressive in trying to up-sell to an SUV. After I insisted that I wasn't interested, he got weirdly passive-aggressive...refused to look at me, looked over and past me as he gave his memorized spiel, like he couldn't be bothered. I'm still their customer even if I don't want an up-sell. Car hadn't been cleaned properly, soda stains on console and fingerprints on inside of the windshield (wonder how THAT happened).
