Review your paperwork before you sign! The rep at the counter mixed up our receipt and prepaid agreement with our daughter that was renting a car too that has the same last name. We had to wait for the cars to be ready and our daughter's car was dented and scratched and the brakes didn't work properly- had to take it back for another car because it was unsafe. We have been disputing additional charges that was charged to our card for a month now- Our receipt went to our daughters email and vice versa- she was charged $200 more on her bill too. The prepaid amounts are mixed up on our receipts. What a mess. All because of a counter rep that took forever to process even though we have an avis account and license in the system. The counter rep was incompetent. I am disputing with my credit card now because email dispute through Avis is a waste- they keep sending my dispute info to our daughters email! I DO NOT recommend this company- we travel several times a year and now, will rent from another rental car company. unfortunately, budget and Avis are one but I'll be looking elsewhere. This had been ridiculous. Reviews that I've read are bad for this location. Clearwater Tampa airport. Just rent from Alamo there and skip the counter. No fraudulent additional charges added to your card from Alamo like this AVIS Location did. read more

I rented a SUV from Avis in April of 2025 from the Clearwater/ St.Petersburg airport to drive to Ft. Lauderdale cruise port. When I picked up the car the facility was very busy, I guess due to spring break time. I was pointed to the car and shown where the exit was. The car was terribly stained with hardwater marks and I had strain to see while driving into the afternoon sun. When arriving home I noticed that the interior was dirty and had not been vacuumed. Food debris was all over the mats and seats. Furthermore, I found an empty food container of tuna fish salad along with eating implements stuffed in the door side panel. Not having time to go back to the Avis facility I washed the windows since I would be leaving in morning darkness and concerned about being able to see well in the dark. When I turned the car in at Ft. Lauderdale I advised the check in person of my experience and was told someone would contact me and make things right. Well of course that never happened. Even after calling Avis customer service a couple weeks later and promised an escalated callback, nothing! So, since I rented through Costco Travel I gave them a call. They were very nice and over many weeks of checking back finally Avis sent me a coupon for a free one day rental, cool huh. When I booked my next rental from Avis, guess what, the only car the coupon was good for was a limited distance electric car. Wow was I pissed! I travel to Ft.Lauderdale from Clearwater often. Would you want to trust a limited distance electric car for the trip, not me! So now it's nearly October and nothing from Avis or CostcoTravel. Avis really sucks so I would wholeheartedly not recommend using them. read more

My rental experience started terribly when I received a vehicle at your 4037 66th St North location. I received a vehicle that smelled so strongly like cigarette smoke that I requested to exchange it. Not only was the agent at this location dressed like she was going to do laundry, but she had a horrible attitude, talking about her personal life and issues with her ex-partner to the customers before us in line taking her sweet time. She informed me they had no more vehicles available and that I would have to drive to the St. Petersburg airport or Tampa airport to exchange the vehicle, which I did causing me to miss my dinner reservation and delay the errands I still had to complete before my weekend getaway for my boyfriend's surprise birthday. I had to go through two more exchanges before I finally received a third car that was in working order. The second car given to me at PIE had a flat tire and I had to turn around and exchange it for the third car. I finally ended up with a third car after 10 PM that night when my rental journey started at 5:30 PM that same day it took me almost 6 hours to get an acceptable vehicle. But here's why I have PIE a "10." Even though my rental experience was not perfect, once I arrived at PIE Chris, another female representative (I forgot her name), and Ronnie were EXTREMELY professional in calming my frustrations and remained courteous making the situation right to the best of their abilities. Chris and Ronnie are both awesome, as well as the female agent. "Great customer service isn't displayed when everything is going right, great customer service is displayed when things do not go as planned, but are made right in the face of difficulty," which Chris and Ronnie both did. They are both assets to AVIS's Rent-A-Car at PIE, and because of their professionalism, I will continue to be a customer in the future. read more

RANT TIME: Do not. I repeat DO NOT USE @avis for your rental car needs. I booked a car on Saturday at the St. Pete beach location and planned to pick it up at 1pm. I get a call 30 minutes before 1 telling me they don't have any cars and that I would have to change my location pick up to another Avis. I switched locations to St. Pete and was told they had a car for me but it would be another $40 at this location (SCAM ALERT!) and I hesitantly agreed because I needed a vehicle. I Uber to this location and they tell me they don't have any cars. So I'm stranded at this new location and they tell me to try the airport. Mind you, NONE of these locations answer the phone when you call them, so I had no choice but to Uber to the airport and pray for a car. Once at the airport they tell me they don't have the vehicle I reserved but they can give me "an upgrade" for free. Oh and that because I was picking up from the airport it was going to be another $100! I agreed, go out to the "upgrade" they gave me to get into a filthy dirty Toyota Corolla. There are stains on the seat and carpet, nothings been wiped down (the steering wheel was black when I hit it with a wet wipe) and the wind shield wipers barely work and it was pouring rain at the time! I go back inside and now there's a line of about 50 people. I flag down the guy at the counter that just gave me the keys and he says he has to get the other cars out to the people who just arrived and if anything's left then he can probably switch my vehicle out with a new one. I told him not to worry about, I didn't want to wait an hour and hope there was something left for me or give the car up and not get a replacement. I went to the car wash and cleaned the car out myself. Long story short, avoid using Avis if you need a rental car. Their customer service is the worst I have ever dealt with. The fact that they are selling a service they don't have and allowing people to book vehicles at specific properties where no vehicles exist should be against the law. I saw multiple people in the same situation as me, promised a car and then stranded and forced to pay more money just to get the same vehicle they prepaid for at a promised rate. This company is running a huge scam and should be avoided at all costs! read more

He kicked a dent in my car, punched my drive side window twice, and kicked me in the leg above my knee. All because I didn't see him about to cross the street. The date March 9 2024 a family trip with 9 people had servers issues with spirit airlines . Honest that as usual Enterprise member and who we had car booked with was closed . this location was open only for another hour . The associates Eduardo and Jose mother whom I don't remember her name but remember her service that initially took our call and her kindness her knowledge and their speed to have a vehicle available quickly as we needed . our flight although got the best of the time cutting into their closing time . Although didn't rent the vehicle it was by no means to the service of this location and because of it it's gained new customers and I wanted to make sure these individuals was recognized for their passion to doing customer service that can make or break business as it should because they cared . so I care to give recognition read more

In the digital world customer satisfaction seems to have taken a backseat to shareholder satisfaction, as indicated by corporate profits over happy customers. The vast majority of difficult situations can only be relieved to the limits of corporate algorithms. We have all been subjected to the unpleasant outcomes given by company representatives who cannot, or more accurately, don't attempt to challenge the computer screen telling them what is possible. After rating the company's business practices and procedures as below terrible, I must, in all fairness, give an exemplary rating for the person I presented my concerns to when returning the vehicle. Sal at the Clearwater airport branch took a look at all the paperwork I was given and listened to a brief explanation of my confusion. His eyebrows knotted into question marks as he tried to figure out what had happened and why. He left the counter to speak with others in the adjacent office. He very quickly rectified the charges to reflect the original agreement, returning hundreds to my accounts. It is still people who make a difference. Hooray for Sal at PIE. I'd give Sal five stars, but unless he is promoted to a management position where his positive, helpful, friendly and caring attitude will guide all subordinates he supervises, he is unfortunately, an employee of the abhorrent guidelines directed by the corporate structure of Budget/Avis. read more

The service at this Avis location is awful! Walter Trey Henderson, the Territory Performance Manager is fine giving out discounts and throwing in extras for his friends, but is unwilling to help customers suffering from poor service provided by his company. (See attached photo) The employees at this branch could care less about customer satisfaction. Jared Amos, the manager, has zero problem resolution skills and absolutely no empathy for travelers visiting the airport. I used to use Avis once a week. After receiving the level of service provided at this location, I will NEVER use Avis again. I'd highly recommend a competitor. read more

Had a prepaid reservation through Priceline feel like when you use Priceline your treated as a second-class citizen. I was told they were gassing the car up and to have a seat and wait. I said any on car on the lot is okay - they insisted I took that one . It took 45 minutes for me to get the car making me late for my scheduled meeting. The only negative to using Priceline is that I can't be guaranteed national where I'm at Emerald member and never had an issue. read more
