Rating = 0 Our neighbors contracted Alamo Tree Service to trim the tops of our 4-5" diameter border trees for their view. We were gone at the time ATS came so were deeply saddened upon our return to see that the ATS crew had climbed up our small trees with spikes, shredding the trunks and breaking the branches. They used chainsaws. It felt like an assault rather than a trim. This work could have been done from the ground with an extension saw and lopping shears, as other tree services have done in the past. read more

A few months ago, due to high winds, a large Pine tree (easily 100+ feet), in our backyard, fell over. We discovered it after work and it was already dark. Looked up internet for tree removal in Danville area and found "Alamo Tree & Stump Service." We called Pete, the owner of the tree service. He showed up soon thereafter @ about 10:00pm. He assessed the project and quoted the price. Thereafter, his quote was compared to others and we found him very reasonable. Followed up with him, he faxed the contract that we signed and faxed back. He showed up with his team fully equipped in the morning on the appointment date. The crew went to work right away. By evening the whole tree was gone with no leftovers and the yard was clean. Based upon his simple and clean business practice, we hired him to remove two more adjacent large Pine trees as well because their roots had been weakened by the previously fallen tree and a large Redwood whose roots were encroaching on neighbor's property. Same thing all over, reasonable quote by Pete (as compared to two others), contract by fax, a larger crew arrived on the stated date (as it was a bigger project) promptly on time with all the equipment at hand. They went to work and the whole project was completed in 2 days with no mess left behind. To our surprise, even the flowers beds under the removed trees were untouched. Literally as if the trees disappeared into thin air. Pete also went the extra-mile for surface grinding of all the previous tree stumps as well, all within the original quoted price. We periodically checked on the progress. We found a dedicated crew that clearly respected and trusted Pete. Frequently Pete would appear with refreshments and food for his crew, which showed a mutual respect of everyone on the team. We have found Pete to be personable, trustworthy and straight which kept the unnecessary negotiations to the minimum. He never tried to up sell any of his services and kept the discussions to within the scope of the problem at hand. He delivered on his projects with a performance that was predictable, reliable and repeatable. If you have trees on your property it will cost you to remove them when the time comes. Pete is that go to person. We highly recommend him for tree services based upon the above experiences. read more

Never been so furious that I felt I need to write a bad review. Got several bids from several licensed tree trimmers/stump removers. The owner Pete kept coming by the house to sale his services while I am getting estimates from other guys, which I didn't mind much. After discussing a few things like: 1. Why is your contractor license expired? A: I forgot to pay. (A bad business practice sign considering this is solely what you do for a living.) 2. Why don't you have workers compensation insurance? A: It's too expensive. All my workers have kaiser insurance. We are experts! Notice he has no workers employed when you look up his license. Pretty much a way to pay less taxes. (Well workers comp insurance is not the same as having medical insurance. If a worker gets hurt on your property most likely you will be getting a call from a lawyer with litigation in mind. Your home insurance might not even cover) I had a slew of medium sized trees in the backyard that either needed to be taken out with stumps or trimmed which Pete gave me a package deal price which was acceptable. I had a larger 4-5 story high approximately deorder cedar (pine tree) that he kept saying he could finish and de-stump for a specific price which I agreed. He shows up with his crew after price was agreed couple days after in the morning and ONLY then he informs me they can't do the larder deorder cedar. Q: I asked you gave me a set price for just to do this tree alone so what is the problem? A: My crew says they can't finish it in 1 day and I would be losing money. I followed up with, but you gave me a set price that took care of this tree in particular regardless how many days it took. He just said he couldn't do it. Well I guess the tree wasn't as "easy" as he kept saying it was. He offered just to do the backyard which I at that point just wanted everyone off the property. Summary 1. Would not recommend at all. 2. Use at your own risk. 3. Expired Contractors License 4. No workers Compensation 5. Waste of time to get a quote that will not be honored. 6. Owner can not judge the scope of the job to what his "crew" can accomplish which will increase the chance of an up sell. read more

If we could give negative stars we would. Stay far, far away from this slimy, lying snake, Pete, and his lies and bad service. Suffice it to say he came out and told us, "Oh we will do this and this and this and take care of that and that." We ignored a previous negative review and went ahead and are we ever sorry we did. This man is nothing short of a dishonest business person. The lies were abundant and the work not done. Attempts after the work was not completed to call him were received with no return calls. He even answered the phone once and when we asked for him by name, he pretended he was someone else. THIS BUSINESS IS BAD NEWS!!! The owner Pete not only has poor communication skills but also a credibility issue. He said he'd have a crew by my house in the afternoon after I sent him a picture of the job and a price was quoted. He even said he'd have to charge overtime for the trip. I agreed. No show. No call. I called him and he said he'd take care of it in the morning. No show again no call again. I called him and he said he was too busy to provide the service and never "promised" the service. Are you kidding me? Look for other options folks. read more

Pete's team recently removed approx. 30 trees on my property. Of those, 12 were redwoods located dangerously close to my home. They were sure to grind the stumps 18 inches below the ground level and even trimmed and pruned several trees and bushes on the property as a "freebie" to make the yard look great. The team is very responsible, timely and respectful. They did an excellent job cleaning up the jobsite each day and no damage was done to my property. In addition, I received bids from 4 tree companies...Alamo Tree & Stump was as competitive, if not more competitive on their pricing for my relatively large job (8 days of work). We'll be using Alamo Tree & Stump for future tree servicing needs. Lastly, at least three of my neighbors have come by to inspect the job and will be reaching out to Alamo Tree & Stump for a bid on their tree removal needs. read more

Pete and his crew did a great job in removing 2 large redwood trees next to my swimming pool. They also trimmed a large branch off a large oak. The crew was amazing in keeping the mess to a minimum during the removal. Then they were very thorough in cleaning after they completed the job. I was concerned that there would a ton of cuttings, bark, chips etc in my pool, but they went the extra mile to cover the pool, and to clean up and cuttings that fell in the pool. Also, my neighbor came over and hired them on the spot to do tree service. She saw how well they work on my side of the fence. read more

This guy is not honest. He came over and gave me an estimate. After the work was done he jacked up the price a hundred bucks. He said "That's what I said in the beginning." Not true. Get a written estimate. Did not appreciate this!!! read more

Get you quote in writing! Nice guy, very friendly, and did nice work. He quoted one price then shows up and asks for more. He says he would chip all the brush, but he left 75% of it for "firewood" because his truck was full. We agree on what needs to be cut and he cuts less, and says it looks better like this& you got a great deal...I can't cut all that for that price. We agreed he would leave the large limbs for firewood, but instead of cutting them "fireplace length", he just leaves the large limbs some over four feet long on top of other plants. Bottom line, I think he miss quoted the job, it was too late in the day (Friday after 4pm they showed up), his truck was full, and he took it out on his customer. I called him to complain and he came back to look at the job. He agreed to come back and chip the branches, but refused to cut the trees to what we had agreed on, or cut the logs on the ground. He just kept telling me what a great deal I got. I think it would have been a good fair deal if he had stuck with his price, and done the work as promised. read more

Be VERY careful when hiring Pete. For your own protection, be sure to READ the other 6 reviews "that are not currently recommended" (yelp isn't showing you all of the reviews of this company on the 1st page) ...you will see this exact wording at the bottom of the first page, click on the words and you will be taken to the reviews that reflect what you are risking when hiring Pete. Those 1and2 star ratings tell the real story of what using Pete can be like. I had a horrible experience with him in 2013. He completely misrepresented himself, dangled a great price in front of my nose, said he would do this, this and this, did half the agreed upon work and then wanted more money to finish! He even claimed to have not been paid at all! Thankfully I had the paperwork to back up my claims! He is very knowledgeable & might have even run a professional & honest business at some point in the past, but he is just a con man now who charms his way onto the property, hooks the customer with a great price and then proceeds to steal from the customer in one way or another. Pete pretends to be a good old-fashioned, do business on a hand-shake kind of guy and then puts the poor unsuspecting client through a nightmare trying to get Pete to do what he promised to do in the first place, for the amount of money he said he would do it for. It is so sad that people have to be like this. The only reason I put 2 stars instead of the lowest possible number is I was hoping to avoid my review being put on the hidden "not currently recommended" page. On Saturday my wife and I decided to go ahead with having all the mature trees on our property trimmed and thinned. After calling 10 different companies and leaving messages, I received a return call promptly that morning from Pete, and within another hour he was at our home (precisely when he said he would be there) and subsequently provided an estimate that seemed so reasonable I made a commitment with him there on the spot. (I should note that only one other outfit returned my call much later that day, and only 3 others returned a call on Monday - though I told each of them that we already made a commitment.) Pete and his crew went to work within days and our property was transformed over night. With over an acre, Pete's crew capably handled a wide and eclectic array of trees, that included a camper tree, several giant magnolias, a 'strawberry' tree, several white birch, about 8 giant sequoias (each well over 75 feet tall), a few different pines, a half dozen crape myrtle, a lemon tree and more. Pete's crew left the property in cleaner shape than they found it, and most importantly, my wife was very happy with the work done. I should note that Pete and his crew were very accommodating, cutting several trees more than once in order to suit our needs and at the same time ensure a natural looking cut.
