We called Alex Llamas of Savant Arborists to help us with an infestation of shot hole borer (an ambrosia beetle) that was killing one of our live oaks and threatening the rest of our small oak grove. The infestation was spotted by our regular tree service, but they did not have the expertise to mitigate the threat. Alex has demonstrated his expertise by treating all of our oaks for the shot hole borer and the symbiotic fungus that also poses a threat to the tree. Alex took samples for nutrient analysis, supplemented the soil around our oaks to address deficiencies and provided us with a detailed arborist report that we used to get a permit from the city to remove the dying oak. He is providing us with an ongoing maintenance program to ensure the health of our remaining trees. One unexpected aspect of Alex's work was the genuine enthusiasm he shows for the cause of protecting trees from pests. Alex did a full walkthrough and gave us an estimate - with honest feedback about which trees we shouldn't even spend more money on at this point - immediately after I reached out. He also did an estimate review to go over each line item before we confirmed the work. The crew was very friendly and made sure they asked our opinions. Unfortunately, I am clueless with landscaping and design, and don't know what to ask for. It turned out the work wasn't quite what I expected, and a lot of the assumed mitigation effort for our bigger tree out front was not needed or done. It's unfortunate that Sexy Trees canceled a scheduled appointment just 15 minutes prior to our meeting because a previous request for service "didn't work out". Your shameless reason for canceling an appointment at the last minute had nothing to do with professional tree care. You canceled because your records showed that we did not award you a project that occurred years ago. Your company should be transparent then and advertise that you will not come out if you've lost out on a previous project. Losing a project is always a possibility. but apparently Sexy Trees doesn't feel that way. Wasting my time is ok with you apparently. Since we're being transactional, then I'll use my time to encourage folks to STAY AWAY from Sexy Trees. If the only criteria for getting their service is to just accept their prices, then feel free to use them.
