The couple that owns the place are so friendly and always greet you as soon as you walk in (if there isn't a long line). They get busy in the mornings - meaning they're a good shop. First and foremost I wanted to explain something to the American people: IT IS ILLEGAL TO CHARGE CONSUMERS A FEE WHEN USING THEIR CREDIT CARD. Although most people are okay with paying the $.50 fee, I am not. Most of the time when I remind a business about the laws of credit surcharge fees, they waive it and I continue supporting them. This business is either uninformed when it comes to consumer laws OR they have no problem stealing from their business supporters. Anyway, the donuts are pretty good. An office colleague introduced me to Alamode when he brought some in for the office. There is something special about their doughnuts. They just seem both tastier and fresher than any other I have tried. Their doughnuts are more traditional, not the super sweet and light Krispy Kreme type. I was in the area and was really craving some donut so I stopped by this place. When I got here the empty lot was pretty empty. It's located across the street from Mod Pizza and in a little strip mall. There were some cars and parked but overall pretty empty. I walked in and there was a lady with a clear mask on that covered her face and another customer ordering. They seem to have all their covid procedures in place. I then ordered a dozen (it said $11 for the generic kind) I ended up getting all generic (2 of each: maple, chocolate, sugar, glaze) and one stuffed strawberry, lemon, maple with custard and chocolate with custard. My total was $15.50 for the 12 donuts. I still didn't know where the extra $4 came from, unless it's $2 each extra? They do charge a 50 cent transaction fee for card I think. Decided to stop by to pick up half a dozen which was just under $6. Opted for the standard donuts: glazed, chocolate, more chocolate, crumb, and maple. Doughy but not airy like Krispy Kreme, sweet but not too sweet where you need to down it with water. I also got their chocolate square looking donut which was more like a cake. Reminded me of King Pin in Berkeley but a little different. So good. These are the type of donuts you get a warm fuzzy feeling in your stomach. You can tell these were made with love and care. Though not often, I've recently started coming back here to satisfy my doughnut cravings when getting my morning coffee across the street at Peets. The place pretty much looks the same from over a decade ago. Why change a good thing, right? There's plenty of seating since most people seem to take their goodies to go. I've tried this place a couple times and it was pretty good. I'm very particular about my donuts- I like them light and without the taste of the fried batter. The French crullers were hard and tasted overcooked like they were left in the fryer too long. This was disappointing because they charge $1.50 for them. Paid $27 for 1 1/2 dozen donuts + 2 juices!! I got a dozen of the half n half custard and jelly filled donut holes for $3.50, the price isn't listed on the board, but i was willing to pay. They are both delicious!!! So worth it. So with that being said, donuts don't come very often to my life. But when it does, this is the place to go. It's the old school donut shop you would go to when you were young.
