Sugar Toof - Hercules, CA A sweet stop that never disappoints. Stopped by Sugar Toof for my usual cream puff and somehow ended up leaving with more than I planned -- which seems to happen every time I visit. While I was there, I got distracted by their merchandise corner and found the cutest neighborhood market-inspired tote bag that I had to grab for The Kid. For treats, I picked up the Choco Caramel Cupcake, a rich chocolate cupcake filled with chocolate ganache and topped with decadent caramel buttercream. If you're a chocolate lover, this one is definitely worth trying. I also got my favorite cream puff, topped with a crunchy brûléed sugar crust. The choux pastry is light and airy, the custard filling is rich and creamy, and the contrast in textures makes it one of my favorite desserts in the area. I couldn't leave without trying the Bombolino, which was described as a doughnut filled with a crème brûlée-style custard. One bite and I understood why people love it. The pastries here are consistently delicious, and the service is always warm and welcoming. So happy to have Sugar Toof back. Definitely one of my favorite spots when I'm craving something sweet.

Okay, an update is needed because their menu got more options!! They got new flavors of lattes, halo halo, and new food items! Staff are always friendly and energetic no matter the time of day. The longanisa sandwich was like a bahn mi. Their halo halo is yummy and you can pick up to 2 flavors of ice cream. Can't wait to try their new flavor lattes one of these days.

Halo Halo kind of day but every day is a Halo Halo Day & it didn't disappoint. It took maybe 5 minutes for them to make. And it was filled with all the goods from Mango Ice Cream to ube halaya

Cute modern cafe and coffee shop featuring Filipino desserts and pastries, upscale coffee options and some intrigung savory dishes as well. The staff was welconing and the interiot and a warm modern vibe with good seating options. We tried the Ube Tres Leches Cupcake, Ube Pandan Cupcake and Pandan Panna Cotta. Everything was deliciously crafted and exquisitely presented. We are sure to be back for their other treats as well as savory options - in particular the empanadas and Crab "Aligue" Pasta!

Okay seriously?! The chicken and beef empanadas are absolutely incredible. They're almost like a croissant - buttery, flaky, and perfectly layered, yet somehow sturdy enough to hold all of the amazing filling inside! Every bite is packed with flavor and the fillings are seriously out of this world. Let's just say they're not your tita's ordinary empanadas. And can we talk about the garlic sauce? They should honestly sell it by the gallon because it's THAT good. I found myself wanting to put it on everything. Thanks for changing the empanada game, Joe & Kate!

Arrived just as they opened. They are located in a shopping plaza in a shared parking lot. Place is clean, with great music, and plenty of indoor seating. The employees were friendly, nice and patient with me as I browsed, took photos and looked at merch. I ordered several items including an iced matcha nana, beef and veggie empanadas, a corned beef bun, a Nutella turnover, a banana pudding and a tomato feta pastry. Everything was presented beautifully. I didn't have to wait long for my items. Service was quick! The iced matcha nana was very light. Barely tasted the matcha or the banana. It looked pretty but the flavor wasn't there. The beef empanadas were delicious! They were perfectly flaky and the beef was seasoned well. It paired nicely with their green sauce which was bright and provided some acidity- worked great together! I would totally come back for this. I haven't tried the other items yet, but overall, i think it's worth checking out and I would come back to try their other drinks.

    Pandan coconut panna cotta

Kiddo loves pandan and wanted to check out this Filipino bakery. Quite a few sweets to choose from, but decided on the pandan coconut panna cotta and ube pandan cupcake. Couldn't really taste the pandan or coconut in the panna cotta - mostly just tasted eggy. As for the cupcake, kiddo liked the ube cupcake but didn't really care for the pandan topping. What we did like was the ube tiramisu latte. Ordered a hot one and an iced one - maybe a tad sweet but good caffeine fix.

Recently came back shortly after opening. Service was meh and I was watching them be not so helpful to a door dasher because of a language barrier. That just got kind of put me off. I got some empanadas and cupcakes again this time. I tried the longsilog and I was low key disappointed. The food did not taste fresh, rice was hard like day old, longanisa was decent. For the price and portion you are better off making it at home or buying elsewhere. It was $16 and an abomination. It was trying to be all fancy and dressed up but fell flat. I've had this on my list to go to since it first opened. When you walk inside it's actually bigger than you think on the outside. They have plenty of seating. I was overwhelmed with all the items on the display case. Strawberry danish: Looks scary but is delicious. Soft, tart pastry. It kind of falls apart, dough soggy in the middle. I warmed it up in the toaster oven a little and it gave it nice crunchy edges Coconut tart: Loved the nice thick crust like a pie crust. The coconut on top was perfect. Honestly, I couldn't stop eating it Caramel cupcake: Delicious it reminded me of a cake that we used to get for my grandma on birthdays.. Bae's coff: Chocolate cupcake dry, buttercream good but hard Ube oreo cream cheese: Soft and delicious. Easily 2 bite cupcake. Mango caramel cupcake: Mango is typically my go to and the lady who was helping me said it was her favorite. Sadly this was a let down the cupcake was soft but I didn't really taste the mango. Dubai chocolate cupcake: I enjoyed the filling throughout the cupcake. It made the chocolate cupcake less dry. Buttercream a little hard. Ube caramel cupcake: Deliciously soft and flavorful. Cream on top was soft with the sweet caramel. Beef empanada: Meaty and flaky pastry. One of the first empanadas in a long time that wasn't mostly potatoes, peas, carrots, and raisins. It was nothing but beef. Chicken empanada: Meaty and flaky pastry. Ube tiramisu latte: This was more coffee than ube. Even after stirring I mostly tasted coffee with a hint of coconut. I'm not sure where the tiramisu flavor is. The picture made it look cool but what I got didn't look like the picture. This place is a hidden gem. I came here on a Sunday right before closing. The ladies were nice that helped me. Everything was so good I can't wait to come back. Upon looking at the website more after visiting, I believe they either worked or owned Sunflower Bakery. That's why the caramel cupcakes were so amazing. It's the one I used to go with my grandma. I highly recommend this place and can't wait to come back soon.

Chicken empanadas & beef empanadas (pastry crust reminds me of Porto's!!)
    Gillian A.

Place is poppin' during late afternoon merienda time. :p The empanadas are *amazingly* flaky! Dare I say the pastry crust is on par with the one used for the meat pies at Porto's Bakery (IYKYK). I specifically tried the chicken and beef empanadas. No skimping on the meat filling but the fillings are kinda bland. Chimichurri and aioli sauces are served on the side, but I still wished the filling was traditional-Filipino-style with peas, carrots, potatoes, and the most controversial empanada ingredient addition, raisins (yeah I'm team raisin, sue me!). I also tried the ube tres leches cupcake; flavorless whipped cream frosting but the soaked cake part has a bold ube flavor to it. Overall nice little chilled treat especially on a summer day. Wanted to try out the silvanas but they were sold out at the time of my visit. Very friendly staff. Humble interior; good for a no-fuss catch-up date with a friend. Ample plaza parking.

    Halo halo

Came for the silvanas since closing of go-to-silvanas bakery. And happy to say it's quite comparable! Love the nuts and light /airy pastry. Halo Halo perfect especially since it's 93degrees outside. Nice energy from the staff and sitting area was comfortable and clean. Looking forward to trying more from their menu.

    Tiramisu Ube Iced Latte

There is something about the caramel cupcakes from Sugar Toof that hit every time. Now open in a new location in Hercules, Sugar Toof is back and I was so excited to stop in to try my first ever iced tiramisu ube flavored latte. Delicious and so pretty to look at! There are so many beautiful items to choose from, with a mix of Filipino x Italian fusion. So cool! I ordered a few empanadas to-go because I was on the run (love the different dipping sauces per filling type), but would love to come back and go ham with the array of desserts and Chicken Milanese sandwich. All in all, still so happy to see those caramel cupcakes behind the glass! There's plenty of seating inside and plenty of free shopping center parking. Service was great, you can tell everyone truly enjoys working here and has a love for what they're doing/selling/making. Loved the interior aesthetics and the good crowd of excited patrons that came in while I was there that knew about their old location. Forever fans! Looking forward to many future visits to come..

Heard about this new cafe from Nextdoor.com, and we decided to check it out when we were in the area. Sugar Toof is a very clean and cozy cafe, with many Ube specialty drinks and desserts. We ordered a halo halo, Ube tiramisu latte, matcha strawberry latte, bunko pandan panna cotta, Ube tres leches cupcake, and an empanada. I have tried other places with Ube drinks/desserts and sometimes I find the Ube flavor lacking or too weak, but not here. My Ube tiramisu latte had good Ube flavor and is just right amount of sweetness for me. The same for the other drinks and desserts. All were satisfying in flavor and sweetness. Even the savory empanada tasted good and fresh. The halo halo had a good mix of ice cream with the other ingredients like fruit jellies, sweetened beans, etc. It is certainly rich but not overwhelming. The only critic I have was that the pandan panna cotta was a little too firm for my liking. I prefer the Italian version which is softer. We will come back again when we have the craving for Philippines style drinks and desserts.

I have shopped here for many years being that it is my neighborhood grocery store. Never have I ever encountered a situation where I have been accused of stealing, especially with someone standing right in front of me. During my scanning of items, I decided not to bag certain things being that they do not need bag therefore, a young gentleman he did the check did the scan, and he went on about supporting another customer because the person that was supposed to stand at the registers, she walked away to ring up someone else on a different register Upon her return she asked me was I going to scan the items that were left in my cart and I informed her these items were very much so already taken care of. She told me she did not believe me and requested to see my receipt and being that I had nothing to hide. I showed her and she tells me the top three items on my receipt were not on my receipt as if I did not scan them. If I did not scan them how are they on my receipt? I'm not understanding I then made multiple calls to the store to file a complaint being that that was a horrible interaction. It was disrespectful. It was rude. It was unorthodox considering you're standing right there. I shop in the store almost every day spend hundreds of dollars each week. I am disappointed. I really hope that the manager takes things seriously regarding matters like this. People make hard earned money to go shopping for their families, and they are accused of stealing it baffles me to accuse someone of something when the evidence suggest otherwise and then you act as though you don't see those evidence. On this trip alone at self check out I spent $94.48 just for me to be humiliated and disrespected !
