My next step was going to be replacing the compressor control valve. Finally pulled the trigger on a proper diagnosis and confirmed what I had, long feared, to be the problem--a failing compressor. Even though this wasn't the news I wanted to hear, I was glad to finally have a definitive diagnosis. Hayes had it repaired in less than three hours. They were even willing to negotiate on the price of the part. These guys are friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. Downright class acts! My car has many other small issues that, if I can't diagnose on my own, will be placed confidently in the capable hands of these automotive magicians :)
