We have been taking our labradoodle, Kittle, to a different place for a couple years to board when we go on trips. That place closed for construction, so I was in a panic trying to find a new place to trust with our fur baby while we were gone for about a week. After some researching and reading review after review, I found Alan's Canine! Of course, nervous about sending Kittle to a new place, I had a lot of questions. I spoke to Karen on the phone, and she reassured me that Kittle would be in good hands, after all, they have been doing this for 20+ years! I figured, 20+ years along with nothing but positive reviews, why not!? I booked with her on the phone...so easy! We dropped Kittle off, and I was so impressed with their property; it was gated and clean! Karen greeted us outside and off Kittle went. While on our trip, I texted Karen to check on Kittle, and she responded timely...Kittle was doing great! At pick up, Kittle looked so happy and clearly was loved and well taken care of during his stay. Karen and her team even seemed to enjoy having him there. I knew about another trip I had coming up, and before I left with Kittle that day, I booked another stay! When we dropped Kittle off for his second stay, Kittle was so happy to see Karen again. I've never seen him so happy to get dropped off anywhere else before...the groomers or his previous boarding. So, if Kittle is happy, then so are we! I also scheduled Kittle a grooming session, since I was not able to get him in with his regular groomer before drop off. When we picked him up, he was so clean and smelled so good! ***Highly recommended especially when you have Big Dogs*** Alan's Canine Training was the second trainer we went with after our first one was more suited for littler dogs. After our first lesson with Alan, we noticed our German Shepherd, Ryan, more responsive and obedient at home. Now Ryan has graduated to going to Alan's Daycare. Ryan now looks forward to going to his training and daycare. When Alan was out of commission, it seem like Ryan was depressed he wasn't going. Even Karen makes setting up appointments very easy and is very flexible with Daycare. The staff is very friendly and great. Ryan loves greeting them upon arrival. I would highly recommend Alan's Canine Training especially if you have larger breeds of dogs. I'm sure he's great with little ones too. I'm just disappointed that we didn't used him earlier when Ryan was a puppy. read more

Having a fur baby is fun and challenging and before the challenging turned to unmanageable, I thought I'd get a head start to getting my dog into training. I looked through yelp to look for dog training classes. I chose this business based on their reviews and because of their experience with German Shepherds (since they are breeders). Although I love dogs, had a few pets throughout my childhood, and took care of my fur nephews and nieces, I never was in charge of the rearing and training. I usually was the enabler, the one that would sneak in some extra scraps of treats and extra play time. I spoke to Karen and Alan over the phone and expressed my concern about nipping, biting, and aggression and made my appointment. To be honest, I wasn't sure if it was puppy play or if he was going to be a gangsta shitzky. During the first day my pup approached Alan and took to him like an old friend. He was excited and peed on him. To my relief, Alan told me Bubba was just being a puppy. Throughout the weeks, I learned a lot from Alan and still continue to learn. As Bubba spent time with Alan training, and I got to know how well the business takes care of the dogs they board, I had my pup stay at their kennel for a few hours at a time. Bubba loves being around Karen, Alan and the other employees. I'm thankful for their care of my big pup and would recommend them to other dog owners who need boarding and/or training. read more

They are accommodating, and their prices are reasonable, especially for the type of service you get. We have taken our Cane Corso/GSD mix, Taz to Karen & Alan twice. The first was a trial run to make sure that our pup would work well with the handlers and being around other dogs, mainly because he is a larger breed dog. Fortunately, he did great and Karen speaks highly of him. We just boarded him over Labor Day weekend and he was so excited to be back with Karen, Alan, and their handlers when we dropped him off. Karen checked in with us to make sure he had everything he needed for the weekend and was also nice to let us bring a few items we forgot later in the day before closing. We're two sessions in with our Yellow Lab Nellie. We really thought she was untrainable but Alan has made drastic changes with her! We're able to walk her and she's not pulling which doesn't seem like a lot but it really is! We had people over and with what he showed us it is night and day without her jumping on people! Trust them with your pets! We brought our two adult German Shepard's to be kept here for 4 days while my husband and I were on vacation. My boys were well taken care of and exercised properly, picked them up relaxed and happy to see me. The staff was very kind and helpful, even gave me their personal phone number in case I wanted to check up on them. The kennels were a couple various sizes, but because I boarded them together they stayed in one of the larger sized ones. Very clean and organized kennels as well, no weird or bad smells coming from the shack they have off the house for the pets. And they have a few different play areas for the dogs, plus they walk them everyday. The price was exactly what I was willing to pay, very reasonable for two big dogs that require A LOT of exercise. About $240 for four days. You will be happy with their service! We shall return. read more

Can't thank this place enough. Not only were they willing to accept my pup, who is of a breed many will find intimidating and aggressive, but were willing to accept her last minute. The owner was very pleasant to my dog and myself and reasonably priced for a beautiful and lovely operation. I picked my pup up and knew right away she was well taken care of because she smelled wonderful and tail wagging. I almost feel they had done too good a job because she seemed sad as we left. Alan's doggy daycare took my 7 month old puppy in on short notice after our prior plans with another kennel were suddenly cancelled. My pup had a great time there. He came back in the same good ol shape we left him in after 6 nights, and that tells me he was well taken care of. What I like is that the dogs are kept in separate spaces throughout their stay. They have designated times for pick up and drop off, and they get one on one attention with a handler, which is very nice. This will be my go-to spot whenever we need to leave our baby behind in the future. I was real pleased with the service and attitude of the staff. Would highly recommend. read more

Mission: Train 5 month old rescue dog (German Wired Hair Pointer mix) that goes full throttle all day. Trainer: Alan Method: Positive re-enforcement by treats and verbal praise. 8 weeks basic obedience training. One on one training with Alan handling the dog exclusively for the first few lessons. When you become handler, learn to mesh with dog. The dog will be ahead of you on the learning curve. Results: After 8 weeks, Alan advised an additional 8 lessons would help both man and dog. This was an honest evaluation and the decision to continue would be mine. I could tell that my dog needed the extra lessons. I also felt as the dog handler I needed more time to be effective with the dog. During the training period, it was determined that my dog had a problem with recall in the field. The remedy was to use an electric collar. I was glad I had Alan's guidance as an E-Collar can easily be misused. My dog is trained with positive re-enforcement so E-Collar use is strictly monitored. Now at 15 lessons I have almost 100 percent recall.Her off leash obedience is fantastic. Superstar: ALAN. Without a doubt, Alan has reached the highest level of Canine whisperers. We have a Labradoodle, 5 months old, a little terror because he is really smart and strong, within 5 minutes of letting Alan handle him, literally 5 minutes, our puppy was a different dog, he was attentive to Alan's every command, it was such a beautiful sight to witness this master at work with our most prized family member, our puppy. His facility is beautiful in the country just outside of town, so its super convenient, and our puppy can play in an environment that is natural that he loves. Really glad we found this place. I'm always weary of boarding my small dog because I have had bad experiences in the past butn I was going out of town and needed a place to take my dog. I called and spoke with one of the owners and even though it was the same day they had space and made me feel very comfortable. When I arrived the made sure to ask a lot of questions about my dogs likes and habits. When I came to pick him up the handler was giving him a nice brushing (so awesome because he is often matted when I have picked him up from a boarder) and he went to sleep as soon as we got in the car. I inherited a young willful German Shepherd, my first dog. The dog was nearly 3 year old when I got him. I tracked down Alan's Canine by the paperwork and took my dog up there for training. It's a trek from Berkeley but I figured it was worth the drive for the breeder to help me with this wild dog. And it was! I now have a happy trained dog and am learning all the time from Karen and Alan. I take him up for grooming and boarding even though it's over an hour's drive because Guido is happy there, he's excited when we get close by and is happy when we arrive. This is a dog who used to cry and moan and vomit when he gets groomed and has security issues from being not well taken care of his first years. These guys are great, I found them online about year and a half ago and they always exceed my expectations. My dog loves coming here and always comes home in great condition. We even had a moment where we left my dog there while we were on vacation and she got some kind of infection in her eye. They immediately got me on the phone and ran her to the vet to get her looked at and get medicine for her eye. Everything turned out OK, but being so far away I was very worried, but they actually sent me pictures via text to show me that her eye immediately started to improve. Recently had a death in the family and had to drop off last minute. With no reservations they took our dog and request with no problems. Upon picking our dog up we knew she was not distraught as we could not hear her barking with the other dogs. When she saw us she was excited as always and we could tell she had plenty of love and attention the 5 days she spent there. The wife also called later after we picked up to let us know how much their daughter loved our dog, make us more sure she had plenty of attention while she was there. I have been using Alan's Canine for the past eight years; my vet recommended them. Alan, Karen, and their staff are fantastic! You can tell they love dogs by how they work with them and talk about them (very educational). The kennel is situated on plenty of land and is well-organized and clean. Alan also provides obedience training. I rescued a female boxer eight years ago who is dog-aggressive and Alan helped me successfully work with her on obedience commands. When you board your dog, you can request play time/ walks and grooming for an additional fee (which I do). I highly recommend Alan's Canine. I have to tell you, I was very concerned leaving my little shih tzu with anyone. He is a rescue dog from a horrible situation and has had severe anxiety. I was going on vacation to the east coast and couldn't take him. I looked up kennels and then toured a few. Allen's was by far the most professional and clean. I loved that it was out in the country. The inside was cooled for the dogs which was a concern for me since its been 100+ degrees out recently! Karen was wonderful! She is truly interested in animals..she got me a quote and made arrangements for my dog. I even called her during the week to see how Marley was doing. She gave me good reports which gave me peace.
