We have two Shih Tzus who are my babies. We had a recommendation to board them at Happy Campers sometime last year. We have boarded them several times now. One of my dogs is fearful of everything and doesn't like to leave home. He happily goes to Happy Campers. I think he enjoys the free time he gets and the friends he meets at camp. I'm sure my other dog runs around like he owns the place. The young ladies who run the office have always been friendly and accommodating. I always apologize because I know my dogs are high maintenance but they just laugh it off and say our dogs are good. They have also gone above and beyond to try to get my dogs to eat. We appreciate being able to go on vacation and not have to worry about our dogs at all. read more

We had our 13, soon to be 14 year old loveable lab stay here for a week. They took outstanding care of her. When we picked her up we could see how much she had bonded with the girls in the office. They were very accommodating of her diet at no extra charge. We were out of the country (China) and they were good about returning our phone call when we called to check on her. Your pets will be well cared for here. Our dog has been here 3 times, the last time for over 2 weeks. The staff made it clear we could email or call anytime to check on him. I emailed a couple times and both responses were warm and detailed with how he was doing and praising his personality. They post pictures of the pets on Facebook so you can see them. They get to know the pets and genuinely care about them. Every staff member I've talked with is friendly and helpful. The prices are reasonable and this kennel has a safe, pleasant atmosphere. I am so glad I found Happy Campers! I recently moved to Fairfield from southern CA and was in need of a kennel for my 2 1/2 year old sheltie named Dexter. I dislike taking my baby to a kennel but sometimes you don't have a choice. I called to schedule his stay as well as a kennel tour. The representatives who helped me (both on the phone and in person) were extremely kind and helpful. I appreciated that I was able to take a tour of the grounds to see how Dexter would be cared for while at Happy Campers (i'm not sure why the other review stated she was unable to your the grounds - maybe she didn't make an appointment before hand?) The kennel has two rooms for boarding - one for smaller dogs and the other for larger dogs. Both areas were EXTREMELY clean and cool (it was close to 90 degrees when I toured the grounds). I felt so at ease knowing my dog would be in an area that was climate controlled. There are also white boards posted in each kennel area where employees write down info needed, such as how much to feed your dog, any special needs as well as a record if your dog became i'll or wouldn't eat. Next I went outside to see their outdoor area for kennels - these kennels are huge! Plenty of room for running around and playing. They are also covered to protect from the sun (another bonus so your dog isn't out in the direct heat during the hot months). There is also a washer and dryer on the premises so if your dog were to become i'll, his or her bedding would be washed so the dog wouldn't be stuck with soiled bedding. (I ended up bringing a large blanket and a pillow instead of Dexter's bed). I completely fell at ease after my tour. All of my questions were answered and I knew Dexter would be well taken care of and would enjoy his stay. While I was away, I was able to call to check on Dexter. The representative told me that my boy was enjoying his time and was making new friends. I loved this! It kept me at ease while I was away knowing my boy wasn't sad or depressed that he wasn't at home. When I picked up Dexter he was happy to see me but sad to leave. He really did enjoy his stay and made lots of friends! I will DEFINITELY be back anytime I go out of town. Happy Campers is truly one of a kind! First of all it saddening me to write this review but it is necessary to protect others from my experience. I used Happy Campers last year when I travelled to Riverside for my sons engagement party and it was a very good experience. Fast forward to last week - it was my birthday week and I didn't want to leave my 2.5 year old English Bulldog in the home all day alone while my son was at work and my husband and I went on a mini vacation. I booked him at Happy Campers for a 3.5 day stay. Actually he is booked for 2 other times later in the year at Happy Campers. My husband dropped Myles off on Wednesday morning while I was getting beautified before my birthday mini vacation began. I called to check on Myles on Thursday without a returned call. Saturday morning I got up super early to get my baby - I was happy when I arrived at the kennel because I missed my furry son. I was greeted and told by the employee she would retrieve Myles after I paid the bill. I paid $82 for boarding and the employee went to get Myles - as she returned before handing Myles over to me to mention he had developed a small rash on his neck for his collar. To which I immediately asked why would you leave a collar - a spiked collar at that on an English Bulldog in 80 plus degree weather. The young lady said we always do. By now I am upset because my baby looks like he is sick and he looked very skinny - like he had missed some meals. I immediately notice in his bag - the carefully measured food I sent with him was not half way gone. So he either wasn't eating or he was feed- I don't want to think about that too much or I will get mad again. On my way home I gathered my emotions after a brief crying spell and called the Happy Campers manager Erica and explained my complaint and concerns. When I spoke with Erica she said she checked Myles in and my husband told her we leave his collar on - of course my husband denies that conversation ever happened. Erica also said once Myles developed the hot spot he was bathed by the staff. I guess I should be grateful (sarcasm). After we arrived home - I gave Myles a closer inspection and found the hot spot covered most of his chest and he has something like a rash on his scrotum. I immediately started Myles on medicine but it is safe to say Myles will NEVER go back there again. I dropped off a healthy bulldog and got back a very sick one. Erica offered to refund my $82 dollars and I accepted it but it doesn't change my experience or the fact that - They have lost a customer forever- I wouldn't leave Myles there again if they were the last dog boarding business in California. read more

We love Happy Campers! Our dogs love Happy Campers! In fact, we love them so much that when we moved from the Fairfield/Vacaville area to Mountain View, we'll still make the long drive out to Vacaville to board our dogs during vacations, even though there are plenty of boarding kennels in our area. Why do we love Happy Campers so much? 1) They are reliable. We've boarded our 2 dogs with them repeatedly over the last 4 years and had never had a bad experience with them. 2) Great value. For our 2 large dogs, it costs us ~$30/night, $1/dog/night more if they provide the food, and $20/dog for a bath. The runs are roomy and clean, and are temperature-controlled. They also have extra playtimes for reasonable rates. 3) Wonderful and friendly staff. They are prompt about returning your calls and emails. 4) Our dogs actually enjoy and look forward to boarding with Happy Campers! How do we know this? Because after the initial excitement of seeing us when we pick the pooches up, they get kinda mopey about going home! I can't believe I'm just now writing this review. I am in need of a boarding facility right now for my Boxer and Morkie and was reminded of the horrible experience I had with Happy Campers last year. They have been banned from our list and here's why: Last year April my husband and I planned a 5 day vacation and choose Happy Campers for dog boarding. I admit we were new to the area and a little spoiled from our previous dog boarding facility in Rapid City, SD. Our dogs were always happy and clean when we picked them up. I wasn't expecting that superior level of service from Happy Campers but I also wasn't expecting what we got. The Happy Campers experience was the complete opposite. My dogs had poop all over them, their bed & their toys when we picked them up. They were filthy, and smelled like death. I feel they were kenneled together, was not taken out to use the restroom and ended up with poop in the kennel. They or the kennel must've been sprayed with a water hose or sometime before we got there because they and their beds were wet. We had to throw away their toys and beds. Their food was not eaten. I don't know if they weren't fed or if my dogs were so depressed that they didn't eat. Needless to say I was disgusted and will never, ever use this boarding facility again. I feel like I subjected my dogs to maltreatment. It took over 1 week before my 2 dogs were acting normal again. They were traumatized! Do not use this facility! read more

My 9yr old dog-Barry had an emergency health issue this week during his stay at the kennel that required immediate surgery. I was out of town in Florida and they helped me figure out my best options to resolve Barry's condition. They transported Barry to & from 2 Vet hospitals, cared for him overnight before the surgery yesterday afternoon. Barry is home and recovering now. I have used happy campers for over 4 yrs on multiple occasions for multiple animals. The staff is always very friendly and extremely accommodating. You can tell everyone there is a pet lover and that it isn't "just a job". We had a stray cat that was hit and we to get its leg amputated. It needed a safe place to rehabilitate for a few weeks and our house wasn't good since we have 3 rambunctious dogs. They worked with us to board her and worked a deal on the price since they knew how much we already spent on an animal that wasn't even ours. I couldn't recommend them enough! read more

I had reservations for a kennel in Pittsburg that left me in the lurch the day I was to leave on vacation. I called around to several kennels. They had a cancellation and were able to take Jasmine. The girl I spoke to was so very nice. Everyone I dealt with was very nice. And said I could call anytime if I had questions. My pooch was a happy girl when I picked her up. I've boarded my two doxies here quite a few times and every time I have been extremely satisfied with their service. I have tried other kennels in the area and Happy Campers is definitely my favorite and first choice. I have changed reservation dates and drop off/pickup dates quite a few times and they are always flexible and willing to work with me. The staff is also very friendly and professional. Additionally, when I pick up my dogs they are always happy and healthy. I understand that boarding can be stressful and hard on the pups but I am comfortable leaving them with Happy Campers because I feel that they are really taken care of. read more

Where to start? When I dropped my two Beagles off for a week's stay, the kennel personnel said that I could not see where my dogs would be staying...that it wasn't safe. Really? I spoke to the owner who said that I would disturb the other dogs, and that it wasn't safe. I should have high-tailed it out of that place, but I had a big vacation planned. I picked my dogs up a week later, only to discover that they are both very lethargic and sick. I will be taking both to the vet today. How could this even happen? I also noticed that they were not given all of the food I sent them, which should have been just the right amount for one week. Just a warning, stay away from this place. My grandmother left her two dogs here for a week. Like the others below said- cannot see where dog is kept, and a lot of food was returned, 1 dog came back sick. We immediately took him to the vet because he was having seizures (which may or may not have been related to his stay). He had lost a pound since his last visit to the vet which was 2 weeks prior- so he was not fed or refused to eat. When picking the dogs up they were both very lethargic and so stinky. Their bedding was returned soaking wet in paper sacks. We were also told they would be outside most of the day which was troubling because they are small dogs (12lbs and 5lbs) and its December and raining. We are just sick that we left him here at this kennel. We have used other kennels and never had this issue, but they came highly recommended to us ... Never again. read more

We have used Happy Campers since 2004, and can't say enough about them! We started using them in 2004 while stationed at Travis AFB. Our two dogs were our "babies" and we didn't want to kennel them without a tour of the facility. Tina (the owner) was great about providing us with a tour and giving us the information we needed. Fast forward to 2017, and they are still the only kennel we use! Tina and Erika are great at communicating with us when we call for updates, and we have never had an issue. Our dogs love to go there (even our dog that is anxious) and they get very excited as soon as we pull in. It is perplexing to me that a vet would recommend this place. I believe the vet in town may be friends with the family here, perhaps she/he is an older vet and doesn't know any better, or perhaps he hasn't visited this place since 2009 when it got 4 star reviews, or perhaps when the vet did come it was by appointment only when the kennel had enough time to give a glowing tour. At any rate, I called them, they were the only ones along our route who could take us. I was taking a risk coming to a place we hadn't been before. Upon arriving, I asked if I could see the faciilities. THEY SAID NO I CAN'T SEE THE FACILITY WITHOUT AN APPT. Well I pitched a fit because we have been at many dog boarding places -- IT IS A RED FLAG IF A DOG BOARDING FACILITY (OR PRESCHOOL OR SCHOOL OR DAY CARE FOR THAT MATTER REGARDING KIDS) WON'T LET YOU SEE WHAT'S GOING ON IN THE BACKGROUND UPON REQUEST AND AT ANY TIME. Well like I said I pitched a fit about it, and practically made them take me back there before we dropped off our dog. I said my kid had to go to the bathroom. The gal was quite annoyed with me, and was rude during our "tour" and completely unfriendly to us & telling me it isn't safe and they never let people back there without an appointment and I better have one next time *red flag!!*. BUT THE DOGS ARE ALL LOCKED UP IN CAGES AND YOU NEVER TAKE THEM OUT, SO WHY ISN'T IT SAFE FOR ME? *RED FLAG* And yes, there was poop there and it smelled of putrid urine. The dog facility I was used to going to washed their place 2-3x a day. This place was YUCK! Anyway, I had to keep my dog here for 3 days. Won't happen again. Why? Because there are WAY better facilities out there for the same price that will actually take your dog out to play, they won't have hidden costs (I showed up and found out that I had to pay for day AND night--sheesh!!! Tell me that up front!!), and they'll let you tour the facility. And JUST SO YOU KNOW, I AM MORE THAN HAPPY TO WRITE FAVORABLE REVIEWS FOR GOOD DOG BOARDING PLACES. This one isn't one of them. If you think this is a good place for your dog, you don't know any better about what a dog needs. Go read anything by REAL dog trainers at the library or anything by Ceasar Milan - the dog-whisperer. This place gets an F. DEAR LOCAL VETS: Please find a BETTER place to recommend than this. YOU CAN. This is the beast kennel in a 50 mil radius.. MY wife and i will never go to any other kennel are dogs come home smelling clean and there happy .. they offer play times where trained person play there favorit games with my 3 dogs.. . i also had my dogs trained the last time i was away.. my wife was so happy with the there behavior after the training. she payed to have my moms dogs trained to.. . so if u are looking to have your dogs be as happy as they are at home.. this is the spot.. read more

I boarded my pit bull here for three weeks. She came out in better condition than when I dropped her off. My pup was calm, happy and well-behaved. She was also shiny and clean after her bath. Tina is nothing short of amazing! We recently evacuated our home due to fire, and our pet sitter sent a Facebook message asking for somewhere we could bring our 4 sheep. Tina responded and welcomed them to come stay. I'd never met Tina, but I came blazing into her driveway with a Jeep full of sheep and she graciously invited them into her barn. 3 hours later, late at night, I found myself with 3 dogs (Great Dane, Lab and Bulldog) and a pig that I couldn't find a place to leave safely as we finished leaving. Desperate, I called Tina to see if there was any chance we could stash them with the sheep. She not only answered, and not only said yes, she made up a room for the dogs and a place for the pig. Then proceeded to get specific feeding instruction, take notes, etc, upon our arrival at 10pm. After a sleepless night in hotel, I found morning texts from Tina, with pictures, of every animal I threw at her the night before, happily eating the food and treats she gave them, along with reassuring messages. Tina kept our brood for 2+ days, taking wonderful care of them. When all was said and done, Tina wouldn't accept anything in return for her kindness and generosity. We have boarded our two dogs here for eight years and I cannot recommend them highly enough. They have always gotten great attention, even though one of them had aggression issues in the early years. The staff was always patient with her and went out of the way to make her feel comfortable. The reason I am reviewing now, finally, is that this past March the staff- and Erica specifically- went up and beyond to accommodate us. My Mom had been fighting cancer and when she took an unexpected turn for the worse and we had to get to So Cal, Erica met us at the kennel even though she was off duty and it was off hours. Erica took the dogs without any complaints and allowed us to take off not knowing when we would be back to pick them up. Her compassion and understanding helped to make a horrible situation a little more tolerable. My only complaint with Happy Campers is that they are so good, and so successful, that I haven't always been able to get our dogs in! Keep up the good work, you all are fantastic! read more

Im not sure where to start. We took our dog here a few weeks ago and im not sure he is going back. For starters i wanted to go take a look at the kennal my dog would be in and set up his bed for him but i was not allowed to go back there because its not safe? If its not safe for me how is it safe for my dog? Then they have dumb hours. We took just enough food for the time we were going to be gone and we also took an extra days worth of food. When we got home he had a half of bag of food? Ever since we have been home my dog as been very aggressive with his food he has never done this before. So we feel like they didnt feed him 2 times a day. Im also thinking that he shared a kennal and maybe that dog ate all his food? Im pretty sure he shared a kennal because when we got there to pick up our dog it sounded like we were at a dog pound and i said to the girl you have lots of dogs and she said yes we had over 50 dogs this weekend! 50 dogs! Are you kidding there was only 12 kennals when i got to "look through the door glass" Because i could not go set up my dogs bed and toys for him because it was not safe? Also He only got to use the bathroom 2 times a day? I was under the impression that it was an indoor/outdoor run. But no it was a dinky little kennal. So need less to say my dog has used inside the house to go to the bathroom now. We took our cat there in the past and had a good experience but were not going back. read more

I just returned home from a week vacation where I wasnt able to take my 2 large fur kids. I felt really comfortable leaving my babies with Tina and her crew after seeing how wonderful her kennels were. I was given updates while away and knew they were in good hands. I boarded my dogs (both under 15lbs.) there for the first time and they stayed for 1 week. I took a tour of the facility prior to boarding and I have no complaints. The kennels are exactly what you'd expect a kennel to look like, there are several dog runs, and there is a large grassy area intended for group playtime for social dogs. The setting is great; it's on a few acres with a small ranch/farm attached, it's very peaceful. The fees are reasonable compared to the "fancy" dog hotels in the area that didn't get great reviews. I've used Happy Campers for both of my dogs, Hercules and Lucy. They've always been well taken care of and even get bathed while there!! The facility is kept clean and when the dogs are moved out back, so the kennels can be cleaned, they ensure safety and do not let random people in the back.
