Well... today didn't go as planned. We learned that the owner and sole operator of the driving service we had booked from Seward to Anchorage had unexpectedly passed away. Our hearts go out to his family and loved ones. That left us scrambling this morning to find another way to Anchorage. A huge thank you to AJ and Katrina at Alaska Cruise Transportation (ACT)⁠ for going above and beyond to make room for our family at the very last minute. What could have been an incredibly stressful situation turned into a smooth ride thanks to his kindness and willingness to help. Fantastic shuttle service from Whittier to Anchorage. Clear signage right when we got off the ship and it was easy to follow instructions to find the bus. Once onboard, Andrea provided an informative narrated ride along the beautiful highway. We were spending the night in Anchorage and they took us directly to our hotel. Other services would have required getting a rideshare from the airport. Clean bus, affordable option. read more

After disembarking our cruise in Seward, we boarded the Alaska Cruise Transportation tour bus with driver Allen. Allen drove us around Seward, narrating the sights. First stop was Exit Glacier in Kenai Fjords National Park. We had enough time there to hike the Glacier Overlook Trail, get some photos and go to the visitors center. Then we headed up scenic Turnagain Arm to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center. There we were able to see bears, Bison and other rescued wildlife in natural settings. Continuing on our journey, we had lunch at the Alyeska ski resort and took the tram to the top of the mountain. Back on the road Allan continued his humorous storytelling all the way to Anchorage. We made a couple more quick photo stops before getting dropped off at our hotel. read more

Service 5/5 - Commentary on board 1/5 ACT was awesome... for the most part. Staff were friendly, the booking process easy, communication was top notch. It always sucks leaving the ship, so it was nice having friendly faces and quippy jokes when we arrived. And then we were on our way... our narrator got off to a good start and gave us a lot of info... then someone announced "Oh look, a glacier!" Which is where things got a little weird. "Man, you guys aren't sick of those by now?" No... no sir, we're all enjoying the beauty of nature, don't be condescending. For some people, this is their first time encountering this kind of beautiful landscape. It went downhill from there... when he was on point and giving good info out to the passengers, it was great and funny. However, with kids on board, it might be best to limit the amount of F-bombs dropped to zero. Also keep the political commentary to zero. Also... don't tell a bunch of people coming from a cruise ship about the horrors of consumerism and how the ships are designed to make people fight in order to sell more over-priced diamonds. You can be entertaining without being a dick and yucking all over someone else's yum. When he was providing actual information, it was great. But there were a lot of personal undertones coming through that really made it very, very awkward. Basically it really comes down to reading the room... this isn't open mic night at the bar. As a person, he was very nice. As a host... honestly, if it was my company, this wouldn't be the professional image I'd want projected out to the paying public. That said, they kept us all on time and the drive itself was beautiful, and when the narrator was giving out actual useful information, it was very nice. read more

I booked a departure transfer from the Whittier cruise terminal to Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport well in advance. ACT was great with communication and we found our bus immediately after departing our cruise ship. Since everyone on our bus was early, our driver took us on an impromptu tour of Whittier while we waited for the tunnel to open. The tunnel opens every hour so you need to be in line in the correct lane before being allowed through. It's a one lane tunnel so each direction gets to go through at different times. Our drive was about 2 hours and our driver Hal was really informative. We asked to be dropped off at the airport but they also drop off at some of the major hotels in Anchorage as well. You just need to coordinate with ACT in advance. Great service and I definitely recommend ACT. read more

The Alaska Cruise Transportation (ACT) shuttle service with non-stop as well as wildlife viewing add-ons is a stress free way to get from Anchorage to either Whittier or Seward cruise ship terminal. We booked the Anchorage to Whittier Bus Tour w/ Wildlife Park ($58) -- price includes the $16 admission to Wildlife Center. The journey took approximately 3.5 - 4 hours since it includes pickup at multiple hotels in downtown Anchorage as well as final pickup at the airport. ACT was great with communication. I had initially booked the afternoon time slot and called back to see if they could change my reservation to the morning slot. They made the modification quickly and resent the email confirmation. Although we were located closest to the airport, we were the first to be picked up at our hotel by a small shuttle which went to almost 6-8 downtown hotels to pick up other passengers. Since we had not done too much in terms of exploring downtown Anchorage, it was a nice way to see a bit more of downtown. The small shuttle ended at the airport where we boarded the coach and met with the other passengers that had opted to meet at the airport. Our driver narrated the full length of the journey as we dove along Turnagain arm with the following stops / attractions: -- Beluga Point: stopped for a quick photo-op -- Wildlife Conservation Center: 1 hour stop -- Portage Glacier Lake: stopped for a quick photo-op -- Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel: passed through tunnel to get to Whittier We got to Whittier dock shortly after 1:30 pm and were dropped off right after all the luggage had been unloaded. We simple handed over our tagged luggage to the cruise porters and went in line to go through security & check-in to board the cruise. Overall ACT was a very convenient way to get from Anchorage to Whittier cruise terminal -- the additional stops was a great way to see more of Anchorage/Girdwood en route to the final destination. read more

Offered the use of his own gloves and boots to the passengers who weren't well equipped for our adventure. He tried to find us a place to see the Northern lights. My cruise ended in Seward and I needed to go to Anchorage like many to fly home. I wanted to do the famous train ride but didn't want to sit on a train for so many hours. Saw ACT does a coach transfer from the cruise port to drop off at the airport or your hotel which was great. The price was reasonable at $65 which included a stop at an amazing wildlife refuge (value of that is $15 but included with your transfer). The stop was supposed to be an hour according to ads that ACT had for this trip. An hour=60 minutes. Our stop was 45 minutes and I didn't see as much or even was able to get to the bathroom due to them short changing us with the time. A few other passengers also were annoyed that the stop was supposed to be 60 minutes as it was advertised. I ended up going back to the refuge on my own so I spent extra $$$$ making up for ACT's dishonesty. I'm only giving it 3 stars instead of 2 because the coach was clean and the guide had interesting stories about Alaska. This would have been 4 stars if not for short changing the time. UPDATE- ACT looked into this and said that it was unauthorized by the driver/guide and actually gave me a partial refund which I didn't expect but was appreciated. I would recommend them again because they do get to things right away. I do feel a bit bad about complaining since the driver and guide were actually nice. read more

Used this service to get from Anchorage to Seward for a cruise. The bus picked us up at the end of the appointed hour. It would have been nice to know that we had more time to arrive at our departure hotel. The guide was very nice, the stop was wonderful, the price was amazing. We used this ACT big bus company to transport us from Whittier to Anchorage. Our flight was at 2pm so we couldn't afford being late to the airport. They stuck to the schedule and talked about Alaska the entire time we drove to the Conservation Center and airport. Great staff who show great interest in their job. We were happy with booking through the company rather than the cruise line. We booked them 6 months in advance. Being a very paranoid person, I was hoping they didn't lost our reservation. I've had it happen before and I was a little worried once our trip got closer. The company emailed another confirmation email 1 week before the bus transfer. They even emailed me again at 6:30am the day of the transfer and even texted me. I liked that a lot. They really gave me peace of mind. I didn't have to stress about how we would get to the airport. They did amazing. I would definitely book them again in the future. read more

Confused on how to get from Whittier to Anchorage once your cruise is over? Don't be. This shuttle service is the way to go! Booking online is easy and they have convenient times that match when the cruise ships dock. Once getting to the terminal area it was easy to see signs and be directed to the correct bus. It was a little bit of a wait though to get everyone off the ship. We chose the bus that had an integrated tour and stopped at the AK Wildlife Conservation Center. Tickets were $42 per person. We learned history about the tunnel and it was so great to do a quick stop and see all the animals at the conservation center. They had a huge variety of native animals to see. Our drop off point was the airport where we then rented a car. It also drops off at other hotels in the area. This experience was painless. And there is also a bathroom on board if nature calls. Booked the wildlife and nature transfer service - mainly because first time to Anchorage, other option only picked up from the airport. In retrospect, getting to the airport from downtown would have been pretty easy. In any case, the transfer was excellent. Though they picked up us on the later side of 12 pm to 1 pm (around 12:40) from the Marriott, there was no need to rush to get on board. The guide was very friendly, and seemed genuinely interested in the history and biology of the area. We had a 20 minute stop for pictures at a vista point, then a couple hours at a wildlife refuge, where we could see black and brown bears, moose, oxen. Then off to the tunnel, whereupon we fell asleep (I kind of wanted to be awake for that part, alas). When we arrived on the other side, there was a light rain; apparently Whittier is some kind of rain forest area in Alaska... fascinating! Anyway, I highly recommend this transfer service. read more
