What a neat find on our way back from Talkeetna!!! I have heard of birch tree syrup, but I have never had the opportunity to try it. This is a relaxed family farm where they harvest and process birch tree syrup. They offer a tasting of their syrups, candies, mustard and jellies. They also offer tours of their operation. We purchased an amazing blueberry jelly and pure birch syrup. Make sure that the sample you try is the correct product you purchase. The syrups are marked with corresponding labels. A very helpful young lady pointed out that I was purchasing a late run harvested syrup instead of the early run harvested syrup that I had sampled. I am so grateful that she saw my error! This is a really neat place to spend time with your family while learning about the process of this art.

Super cute storefront for a family business that's been growing and and birch syrup as the Alaskan maple-syrup-but-better product. Gotta love their dedication to their product, as well as how down-to-earth this US small-business is at doing honest work. Set aside 30 min so you can watch a video presentation, hear the owner proudly talk about birch superiority, and sample some of the many birch yummies around the shop. We bought some sweets and a few bottles to gift to folks back home -- it's a perfect tourist trap. :)

Cool spot. Definitely worth a stop coming into or out of Talkeetna. The friendly staff invites you in for a quick 15 minute tour (split between about half video and half tour guide). Having grown up in upstate New York, I can't say birch syrup beats maple syrup, but this place makes a solid product. I ended up leaving with syrup, candies and some ice cream.

I really enjoyed the history behind Alaska Birch sap making, we did the tour & they answered all our questions and had tons of samples. I recommend this place!

Cute little place to visit for something to do in Talkeetna. It's basically a little store that had a back room where they show a video of the tapping process and then give you little samples of the syrup to taste along with one of their caramels. I wasn't a fan of the syrup but my friend was. I really enjoyed seeing the process behind it though and loved the caramels. I bought some and brought them home for souvenirs for friends/family.

Cute little touristy stop along Talkeetna Spur Road for some tasty birch syrup tastings and a little tour giving you a run down of the whole process from tree to jar. It's a neat concept, but the products end up being a little on the pricey side since there is very little production for it in the world. It also takes quite the process meaning 100 gallons of sap will make only 1 gallon of birch syrup through reverse osmosis, so it also quite rare. The little store is cute and the tastings were fun. Our favorite was their Kahiltna Gold Birch - Orange mustard. We were able to taste the mustard with salted pretzels and they were delicious! We came back with a handful of those for ourselves and also as gifts for friends and family.

Very nice shop with a specialty of harvesting and processing local Alaskan birch syrup. You get to take a tour of their processing system and view a video of the actual harvesting procedure, including a taste testing of their finished goods. Added bonus: they give you suggestions for uses of all four stages. They also have a website and offered to ship home. Great service, great products and a beautiful little birch campus!

I really wish I had gotten the lady's name that helped me. I had stopped in on a suggestion from a friend who had some birch syrup from Estonia and asked me to grab some while in Alaska. She was super patient with me texting to get his order and of course sample one of everything lol She gave me a quick tour and walkthrough right before a huge bus load of people stopped in last Monday, 8/8/18, and was really friendly and funny. I wish I could choose 6 stars and remember her name. If you read this thank you so much!

Unashamedly a tourist, I was browsing the brochures at the Anchorage Airport when I stumbled on one for Kahiltna Birchworks. Taking it without another thought, I recognized the sign for this place from the picture while we were driving to our Talkeetna Airbnb and turned into the lot on impulse. They offer a variety of items for sale that they produce themselves and from other local vendors, and they can show an informational video about their process of collecting birch syrup (you may have to ask for it). Best of all, there's free samples galore - I'd highly recommend the salmonberry or the lingonberry jams, as well as the chance to try birch syrup samples from first run all the way to the last of the season. Really the flavor you prefer is personal, but the early stuff is sweeter and lighter in color and better suited for a table syrup, while the later stuff has a darker color and a stronger flavor that's more suited to cooking. To be honest, birch syrup is much more expensive than the typical pricing for local maple syrup, and that's because of the limited supply. Personally I enjoy the taste even more than maple syrup, so I was willing to indulge for the unique flavor. If you're interested in trying the birch syrup in action, visit the Talkeetna Roadhouse in the center of town and order the sourdough hotcakes with a small upcharge for the birch table syrup. That was really what sold me! We ended up stocking up on birch syrup for ourselves and for gifts, and I was disappointed that we didn't have the luggage weight for any of the jams. But if you sign up for their newsletter, they do send out the occasional discount code that you can use towards an online order.

Tastings, tours and ice cream!! Tastings- you can taste almost all their food products here. From jams to syrup to brittle to candy to tea to... All products here are made in Alaska and most contain the birch syrup... Tour- see how birch syrup is made! Vacuum pump the syrup from the tree. High tech equipment to reduce the water. Then concentrate it. And then to final product finessing. They also show you the colors of the syrup from every run they did that season. First run-the reserve- is the lightest. It also has the most sugar tasting content. The last run is the darkest and most concentrated birch taste and less sugar taste. Of course you get to taste early mid and late run. Maybe even the reserve :) also the taste of the syrup varies from year to year depending on the winter conditions... Ice cream- many flavors of ice cream from birch to honey fireweed... All good, but had to go with birch. Very tasty!! I even came back again on my way down from Denali just for the ice cream. So unique in flavor. The creaminess was ok but in the middle of nowhere this was pretty good. The workers are knowledgeable and friendly. It was a nice side trip in Alaska.

During our visit to the Talkeetna area there were wildfires burning, we were unable to make it to the meeting area but Fred and his helper Rich came to the hotel and picked us up so we wouldn't miss out on the fun. He first took us to a secluded spot by a river where the salmon were literally swimming between our feet. We could have reached down and scooped them up, but we were there to learn how to fly fish, so learn we did! Fred was extremely patient with me and my husband....and our limited fishing abilities! He came supplied with everything you could need or want during the tour. The waders fit perfectly, and kept us warm in the glacier water. While driving to our second fishing spot he supplied yummy croissant sandwiches to snack on during the ride. The second fishing spot had just as many salmon and we were able to catch quite a few fish. I had a beautiful trout on my line but unfortunately I didn't snag him and he got off the hook. I was bummed, but Fred is so encouraging before I knew it I had a huge salmon on the line and brought it in successfully. While we enjoyed fishing Rich cooked up some salmon by the shore along with vodka tonic and rum and cokes. We took a break to enjoy a perfect meal of deliciously cooked salmon and a nice cocktail. It was seriously a perfect day, despite the wildfires in area. I just hope that Rich and Fred's property were not impacted. If I am ever back in the area, this would be the first tour I book. It was a great experience and a super fun day!! Thank you Fred and Rich for making this the highlight of our trip!

From the moment we arrived, it was clear we were in the hands of true professionals. Our mushers, Jaren and Dane, were incredibly experienced, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about what they do. They didn't just guide us - they educated us, patiently answering every single one of my (many!) questions with enthusiasm and depth. You can tell they truly love sharing this world with others. What stood out just as much as the scenery was the care and devotion shown to the dogs. Every single Alaskan Husky is clearly loved, respected, and exceptionally well cared for. It's obvious the entire team is deeply invested in the health, happiness, and wellbeing of these amazing animals, which made the experience feel even more special and authentic. And then there's the ride itself - absolutely breathtaking. The weather couldn't have been more perfect, and the trail felt like something out of a dream. We glided through endless stretches of pristine white snow, surrounded by pines trees, with the crisp Alaskan air filling our lungs. At one point, we were even treated to a clear view of Denali in the distance. This wasn't just a tour, it was a once-in-a-lifetime adventure that completely exceeded my expectations. I would recommend Alaskan Husky Adventures to anyone looking for something truly extraordinary.

The dogs were great and the trail was scenic, but my interaction with owner Matthew Failor detracted from the experience. At check-in, the waiver asked for my full address. When I hesitated and asked why, his response was essentially that I needed to fill it out or I wouldn't be allowed to go out on the sled. Only afterward did he vaguely mention insurance. Being given that kind of ultimatum in front of other guests felt coercive rather than respectful. After the run, he asked if I had fun and stayed warm. I answered simply and briefly. He then commented that I was "a woman of very few words," which came across as dismissive. He then asked where I live, despite my earlier hesitation about sharing personal information. As a woman traveling alone who had already shown discomfort about privacy, that felt intrusive and tone-deaf. The actual sled run was also noticeably shorter than expected, which made the overall experience feel less worth the cost. Liz later called, listened to my concerns, and processed a refund, which I appreciated. I'm sharing this so other women traveling alone can make an informed decision. While the dogs and trail were enjoyable, my interaction with Matthew made the overall experience uncomfortable and not worth repeating.
