I'm done. Went for an evaluation for my neck. Dr. Levine is nice but their cost and follow up are awful. They charge $3000 for an MRI. My out of pocket after insurance was $1300. Ouch. Wanted to get trigger point injections so I wouldn't have to take pain meds. They were supposed to get the cost for me. I also need a refill. That was August 1. It's August 12. I've left messages and emailed. Nobody has ever called me back. Dr. Levine wanted to see me back in a month but he's gone for 6 weeks and getting in with someone else was near impossible. My daughter complained of back pain this summer, family history of spinal stenosis and degenerative disk disease so we did not just blow it off. Set up an appointment with Shawna who was excellent! Took the time to explain things and set up an MRI for her. We had an ice storm and had to reschedule the MRI and the imagining dept was able to get her in later that day. Found 2 herniated disks from the MRI, unfortunately, but at least we have a plan of care now. Highly recommend Shawna. read more

In My experiance - These guys acted like frauds. When their 'remedy' did not work they became unprofesional and refused to acknowledge that they did not know how to fix the problem. They became accusatory and refused to take phone calls and treated my husband and I like we were sub-human. Thankfully I found a new doctor who was able to fix the problem with an emergency surgery. read more

I really wish I would have read the reviews before I came here. I have been in serious pain for almost a year. I came here with my hopes high that they would find out what's causing it after months of physical therapy and other treatment. After being shuffled through multiple empty rooms, weighed, and dressed down into gowns, I was questioned. Then he tested my reflexes and gave me a walking test and basically said nothing is wrong with me. He looked at some discs of tests I've done and gave me contrary information aside from what I've already been told from multiple doctors. I had my hopes so high that I was crushed by the end of the appointment. He barely touched me. I had a good long cry the whole way home and didn't get out of bed the rest of that day. He didn't even attempt to treat the symptoms. I would do anything to get off of all of these medications. This is not the place to do it. I understand why they had so few patient files. Why the place was a ghost town. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy. read more

The staff is incompetent. showed up at my appointment time, waited in the lobby while filling out more paperwork and and they told me I would have to reschedule for jot showing up 30 to 45 minutes early. Really? My appointment was 8:15 am. I am supposed to just wait in the parking lot since they dont open up until 8am. Pluse they never said I needed to show up early for more paperwork, which is ridiculous because they have you fill out a 10 page packet before you come in. I was sent here through the va to be seen based of a list of providers to choose from. However, I will not be rescheduling with them and in fact I will be contacting veteran affairs to give them my experience and recommend delisting them from treating other veterans. The staff was absolutely rude from the moment I arrived to telling me I was the reason I am not being seen today. I wish I had seen all their bad reviews before attempting to be seen by Dr. Johnston and by Alaska spine Institute. Dont wast you time and energy on this place. read more

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME-go somewhere else. We waited weeks for a follow up 15 min appointment. Once we arrived we waited in line for 10 min while the front desk lady helped someone else. When she finally saw us, we were told that becuase we were late, we had to reschedule. I highly recommend going somewhere else. They are inflexible and rude. read more

I had an appointment today with Dr Olson. A Doxy me video conference. I logged on and after 33 minutes I called his assistant Megan and she explained that she tried to call me but my phone was busy. Remember that I was already on hold with Doxy me. She said that she didn't have my wife's phone # or our e-mail. We are asked to and fill that information out every time we visit. It seems to me that empathy for the patient is entirely missing. The medical facility has become some kind of autonomous money mill. My wife has some major spine and back issues. We moved up here looking for a good clinic so that we could get her some help. We expected to be able to get in to see a Dr. . After a month of waiting they just refused to care for her at all. I didnt even know that was an option. Disgusting of them not to care for a hurt individual. All because I have a different issue which I am seeing my regular doctor for. My regular doctor prescribed something for it and AK Spine didn't like it, I guess. What a racket. -Bruised ego over patient care & well-being - I have been a patient of ASI for around 8 years after being diagnosed with Cervical Stenosis and lower back disk inflammation. My case was recently transferred Mr. Levine and my 1st appt was scheduled in Feb 2020. My appt went well and thought he was very professional and thorough. I checked out and paid by bill, all out of pocket. My 2nd appt in April 2020 didn't go so well. I had questioned him regarding my previous bill and why the charges were so high. Almost immediately, Mr. Levine advised me that he was having a very, very bad day. He continued to complain to me, that due to the COVID19 that non-essential businesses are being required to shut down & how many employees he had to lay-off and close several other svcs ASI provided. I continued to ask about my billing charges, where he immediately got very defensive with a passive aggressive attitude, while mumbling rude comments. He never explained the reasoning for my high charges, but chose to storm out of the room instead. I was shocked and very upset at what had happened & found myself in tears. I sp/w one of the staff members about what just happened to me. They were understanding of me & advised that he has brought other staff members to tears also. My 3rd & final appt was scheduled in June 2020. I called ASI & asked if I could change providers within, but was told that since I've already been seeing him, that they wouldn't be able to make that change. I went ahead & kept my appt & figured that he would realize how unprofessional & rude he was at my previous appt & would apologize for his unacceptable behavior. He came prancing in the room & said "wow, I thought I would never see you again" & I said "why would you think that" & he said "well our last appointment didn't go so well", & I said, "You're right, I did try to change providers, but the staff member said, since you were already working with me that I should remain in your care", "Oh, you should have told me that before", he said. "You're right, you should see someone else". I said, "Yes, that would be great". He said, "Oh no, not here. You are no longer a patient of mine & will no longer be treating you, so you can go find another specialist somewhere else". I have never experienced a so called professional who appeared to express narcissistic, egotistical & self-centered behaviors. I honestly believe that some medical professionals do not adhere to their sworn oath of - "First, do no harm". Shame on You! read more

I've been seeing Dr Levine and Shawna Wilson for 10 years. They are very good at what they do. They always try to get to the bottom of a problem and have controlled my pain successfully for years. Their staff is always friendly and professional. I highly recommend them for chronic pain issues. read more

I have been with Alaska Spine Institute for 10 years. It is increasingly difficult to make an appointment, especially when I am in severe back pain. This has been going on for the last 2 years with me. It is as if I am being punished, ignored because I am a patient in pain and just want to make an appointment. Shawna Wilson and Dr. Levine are great but only if you can make an appointment with them. I don't understand why their office is the most difficult office to make a simple appointment with. Been going here for many years and the staff was great, till this morning. Had a 7am Appointment, show up, and told I was not scheduled. They had no information and said the doctor must not have sent the information. The problem with that was that I was standing right there in the doctor's office when the receptionist made my appointment with them. They even told the receptionist that they would have to do a pre-auth on my insurance. Well, the receptionist said there was nothing she could do with out the doctor's order and pretty much would not help. So I went back home, got my copy of the doctor's order, returned with it and talked to the manager. She told me they could "try" to fit me in that day if I wanted to wait. Unfortunately, I have to work, so I couldn't. Besides, if they didn't have me scheduled, how were they going to get me in if they never did the pre-auth with my insurance. I got some lame excuse about their computer system crashing this week and I never got an apology about the mix up until after I told them I would never step foot in there again. The doctors and technicians that work here are great. It's a shame that the reception staff left such a bad taste in my mouth that I won't be going back. If they would have just apologized from the start and admitted that they screwed up rather than giving me excuses, this bad experience wouldn't have been made worse. read more

I came to the Spine Institute with back pain. They required a very expensive MRI which my personal physician later told me was over kill. The MRI showed nothing. They did three Facet Joint Injections which did not even bring short-term relief. Eventually the doctor released me from his care still unsure of what my problem was or how to fix it. The whole thing cost me a lot of money and time, and cost my insurance company a WHOLE lot more more. read more

Terrible office! Came here with a friend who needed surgery. Called us in early because "they were ahead of schedule". Waited four hours before my friend was taken back to start the anesthesia. Waiting room is cold, uncomfortable chairs, no tv, no music, nothing to drink. I know they make plenty of money. I told receptionist a person in the waiting room was rocking back and forth and looked like she was going to pass out. She looked at me like "who cares"! read more

I went in to see Dr. Levine but he was unavailable and I was given Brandy Atkins. She seemed to know what she was doing but has no follow through on results of MRI. I have called her for the past week and she ignores my calls. I live in a bush village so unable to return just to get results. I am VERY dissatisfied with Brandy!!! read more

Horrible from the moment you walk in. Every single time I go in there, both girls at the front desk at imaging, and then the one up on the third floor are on their phones. The one on the third floor is the worst because i could hear her gossiping from the back room as i sat at the front waiting, and then when she finally seen me she went back to being on her phone. The care is fairly basic...not worth the money spent and they spend more time giving suggestions than investigating the problem. Oh, and if you complain, they literally just cease your care! Their assistants call you and say they no longer will accept your care...Frauds for sure, snooty and rude. For the money you pay you should be able to get a REAL doctor, not a rude nurse! read more

I was referred to Dr. Levine regarding my MVA a year ago, my first visit was not impressive and his patient rapport was rough. My MRI result justify my sympstoms but according to him the reading was not right. So he continues to run some lab and other test to find out what causing the problem , of course if they can't figure out, they will just tell you that your case is rare and complicated . He still trying to figure out what causing my complicated symptoms. Since my accident I've only seen him twice. I was surprised to see other doctor on my third visit w/o prior noticed, whose suggesting surgery right away, when I declined she called Dr. Levine and he suggested to do steroid shot. I suggested conservative treatment first before trying what they recommended. I am suffering from headache, neck pain and other complication from the accident. On my follow up schedule with him I was late maybe around 5 min, to my disappointment as soon as I got there they told me that I needed to reschedule because I'm late. They set up an appointment and called me 2-3 days prior to my schedule to change the time. So I did, On that day I went there an hour early so I won't be punish again for being late. I slept in the car and waited. When I got in the office I waited for another 30 mins , 5 minutes before my appointment they called me to tell me that I needed to reschedule due to some personal emergency. After that incident I made up my mind , instead of rescheduling another appointment, I signed a medical release to transfer to a provider that will treat me with respect and meet my expectations. I pay every services they provided so I desserve to be treated as customer that provide an income for them. I understand that doctors are busy but patients have their own situation too. read more

When i first started going there it seemed ok but when i showed up i wasnt in a lot of pain, i have a torn L5 Disc and doctor Erik Olsen said i have arthritis in my knees but once they did injections in my back everything went down hill from there the pain in my back got worse and now my knees are hurting more and more everyday and i told them that the 5mg wasnt helping and i was taking 2 (10mg) at a time 4 times a day and they said no you cant do that. They wont listen to anything i have to say they want to do more options instead of listening to me on what i would like to do, its getting harder to walk now. I got a call saying i was going to be discharged? why? cause they wont listen to me. Horrible Experience.. the doctor I saw acted very unprofessional and constantly cut me off as I was trying to explain my pain... the entire appointment felt so rushed as if I was on a drive through service...So he scheduled me for an MRI for which they called me a week later to tell me what the MRI had found. It took a few attempts and messages on their machine for them to call me back... and it wasn't the doctor who called it was a girl who couldn't even read the diagnosis so she just told me what the Physicians assistant had told her to say which she had written on a piece of paper. Anyways... I was waiting to see the doctor so we could discuss my diagnosis and go over my options so they scheduled me for a follow up 3 weeks after the MRI and 2 days before the appointment they called me and canceled it due to accidently scheduling me for a day when the doctor was out... so I canceled and rescheduled for the following week, when I arrived at the clinic the day of the appointment I was 2 minutes late which the receptionist didn't say anything about so she handed me papers to sign and I sat down (for a good 5 minutes she did not notify the doctor I was there). Then she called me and told me they can't take me in because I was late 2 minutes...the other 5 minutes were also my fault that she didn't notify the doctor. She told me they had taken another patient because I was TWO MINUTES LATE (while I was waiting for 5 minutes in the lobby I did not see another patient get called in). They clearly made a mistake in the schedule for the second time and tried to turn around and blame me for it. I would never go there again nor recommend anyone I love and care about. I felt ZERO care from them as a patient.. people go there because they are in pain and not to get their hair cut... but according to them I could have lived another 3 weeks with my pain until they figured out their scheduling... it was not a big deal for them. So I went to another clinic and found a better doctor who focuses on my pain and how to manage it rather then nit pick on how many minutes I was actually late. read more
