    Amazing waterfall!

Best scenery! Alex was a great guide and we felt safe and informed about our equipment. Just amazing! It's what I picture when I think of Alaska! What fun!

February 2023 5 drivers, 1 passenger What a great experience - everything from getting our gear (thanks Alex) to visiting the glacier was awesome. Our guide, Jake, was great - he taught us how to ride, took us on a great tour, answered all our questions, helped a few of us conquer a scary hill and took some great pictures. Our only problem was that the scenery was so beautiful (you drive and stare at the scenery, too dangerous). #Recommended #VickieTravelz

My friends and I did the Jet Ski tour with David and let me tell you.... That was an experience we will never forget. This excursion was recommended to us by our Air Bnb host. He specifically said that he's lived in Alaska for 10 years and no other tours amazed him like this one. So of course we HAD to book it. They provided the dry suit for us, informed us of what to wear underneath and ensured that everyone was warm and that we all had the dry suit on correctly. We then had a quick briefing session to discuss basic jet ski functionality and safety measures. We're able to bring our phone throughout the experience. There is a dry compartment in the jet ski so we were able to take pictures. David also offered to take pictures and videos for us that he sent over after the experience! We then went out and practiced around the area for a bit before doing the whole tour. I would like to note that it was raining , foggy and very cold this day but it delivered a unique experience for our group. David was such an excellent guide, he's personable, clear with instructions and has a super fun personality which eased a lot of our concerns and anxiety about the excursion. The tour itself was breathtaking. I often got lost in the views of the mountains hugging the lake and the touch of waterfalls throughout. It was magnificent. The glaciers were awesome as well. It was cool to drive by little glaciers popping out of the water ( felt like an obstacle course lol) and we even got to witness a part of a glacier fall off into the lake which caused a loud thunder like echo. Super cool. Overall it was a memorable , unique and adventurous experience. Definitely the highlight of our Alaska trip.

The guides were definitely experienced and informative however they did not assist in helping people adequately prepare. I was referred by our hotel. They provided gear but didn't really check to see if it was on properly or if we were all covered. Coming from Arizona we really didn't know what to expect. I ended up with severe frostbite on my neck and upper neck to the point where medical attention was required. Other members of the group were permitted to go underdressed and couldn't feel their legs upon return. The guides were extremely friendly and attentive they do however need to address this because it's simply dangerous yet easy to fix. One of the snow mobiles of another person in the group fell over and the guides were professional and fast to react. Overall an excellent tour. Just need to work on safety.

Fun, Fun, Fun. We did the jet ski tour with Jake and he was great, everything was just amazing experience. Thank you for the great time and great tour.

Absolutely incredible tour to see the Spencer glacier on snow mobiles. A must see for sure. Had to be the most gorgeous ride I've ever seen. We saw wildlife, got to play on the snow mobiles, and the guides were so awesome. Highly recommend this company.

Amazing day out on the snowmobiles! We did the glacier day tour for $250. And drove out to Girdwood from Anchorage. They offer a shuttle from the city just in case you don't have wheels. The new location is right across from the Girdwood Brewing Co. Its just a trailer to check in and get all of your gear on - they provide snow pants, jackets, boots, helmets, gloves, and goggles to keep you warm on the trail. The owner is fantastic and happy to help to be sure you're comfortable. He then transports you out to Portage and the start of the trail. The guide does a quick walk through to get you associated with the snowmobile and then you're ready to hit the trail. I grew up in the snow so this was quick to pick up again. The other two riders were a bit slower since they had never been out on a machine before so we went a bit slower to start. It's 15 miles out to Spencer glacier where you can explore the ice caves and hang out for a bit. They keep a close eye on the ice for safety but you can enter the caves and climb around a bit. We also had lunch on the frozen lake. Lunch was meat, cheese, crackers, mixed nuts, fig bars, tea, coffee, hot chocolate and a few other random items. Certainly nobody was going to go hungry. If you have dietary restrictions I'm sure you can just call ahead and they'll accommodate. We went on a perfectly clear day and the trails were clear. From start to finish on the snowmobile we were probably out for nearly 3.5 or 4 hours. Going out into the wilderness in Alaska's winter is a bit intimidating, but well worth it. This small company takes great care of you and makes sure you have everything you need. The highlight of my trip and likely to be yours as well!

they'll fully outfit you! wasn't ever cold

Beautiful ride! It our first time snowmachining and we had a blast! Went out with Collin today and he even made us sandwiches and hot chocolate on the top of Spencer Glacier. I never leave reviews, but I highly recommend this!

Mark and Kerrah ( I hope that's how you spell it) were awesome guiding our jet ski tour by Blackstone bay. We saw wildlife, swam next to a glacier, and Mark was great about taking pictures for people. When's the next time you get a chance to swim next to a glacier?

My wife and I did the 4 day / 3 night kayak and camping tour. Epic doesn't event begin to describe it! The great thing about the guides is that they can customize each days experience to suit the weather and the guests on the trip. The prepared meals, camping locations, provided gear, and expertise were top notch. I'm confident that ANY trip books with this company would be the same level of quality we experienced on the multi day kayak trip.

This was the hardest part of our trip; I was huffing afterwards from the freezing cold water and swimming as fast as I could to complete the task. Two people turned around after this and they weren't charged, which I think is nice. This was followed by the 3 canyons. The first canyon was the mildest, class III-IV, the second was moderately hard and more narrow, still class III-IV, and the third was mostly class V in rapid succession. The price was $129 for the first two and $200 total for all 3. About half of our group signed up for just 2 canyons, but by the end of those we decided to all do the third as well and settle the bill later. You can also duck out if you are overwhelmed by the first 2 and you aren't charged extra. Ara, our guide, did an amazing job safely navigating a bunch of rookies through these treacherous waters and not one person was lost from the boat at any point. We even went backwards down the "harder side" of the rapids sometimes and still came out unscathed. I was very impressed with the safety measures taken to ensure the passengers came out ok, as there were two cat boats near us ready to pick up passengers, ropes, and tour guides that constantly tell us what to do to stay safe. Not one boat overturned the afternoon we went (which was very high water as it rained all night) and not one person was separated from the boat. After we were done we were welcomed with hot tubs, warm showers, and hot chocolate/tea. You could also purchase photos afterwards. They also have a kitty named Allen who lives at the lodge who is very sweet and friendly. Huge shout out again to Ara for making this trip great!

This is the Tony Knowles Coastal trail of Portage. You start at Moose Flats, or Visitor's center, and walk/jog/bike/skate/meander 5 miles to the opposite end. I started at Moose Flats and it was a good time viewing natural and unnatural areas of interest. Scouted out camp spots, watched kayakers in a lake, and enjoyed walking over bridges during the jaunt. It was good, not great. So much so, that instead of walking all the way back I hitched to get the car and pick up walking companion. Then we jetted over to Byron's Glacier for a proper, albeit shorter, hike. Would come again if camping in area, but would pass for future hiking funsies due to lack of interest.

Despite being located a little over an hour from Anchorage, this area gets obscene amounts of snow and rain. As a consequence of all that H2O falling from the sky, the mountains in here are heavily glaciated, even though they are not very tall by Alaska standards. Alaska Coastal Wildlife and Brown Bears…read more I did this tour in August 2023. It is a photography-centric tour and it lived up to the hype. We had bears. Lots of bears. Bear cubs. Carl Donohue was our Expedition Leader and did a great job. It was great to have someone with tons of bear experience, as it was close sometimes! It was a boat-based tour so that we would have the freedom to move to where the bears are. Day one we had bears. Day two we had weather, lots of weather. We were in Alaska after all. From there on out we were in bear heaven. I shot literally thousands of images (shooting at 30 frames per second will do that) and I really struggled to delete down to the 400 or so that I'm at now. It's tough to delete amazing photos because you have some that are even more amazing and you just don't need them all. The boat (yacht?) at 98 feet was super comfortable for our small group of photographers. The crew was awesome and the food was very good, certainly more than you would expect for a boat-based trip. I can't imagine how good you have to be at planning to pull that off. Every day I took "shot of a lifetime" photos of bears.

The first was the Bald Eagles in Haines in November 2022. Recently, in April 2023, I went on the Hungry Whales trip in Sitka, photographing bubble-net feeding whales. If you are a dedicated photographer, seeking unique photos, stick with Carl. He does his best to connect you with the subjects and help you capture those stunning shots you seek. If other opportunities arise, such as eagles feeding on fish in the whale tour, you'll get those as well. I strongly recommend Expeditions Alaska for your photo needs in this beautiful state.
