We did the Sled Dog Adventure in Skagway and had a great time. The dogs and puppies were super cute. The dogs seemed to be in good condition, but there was some concern about their well-being in our group. Our guide was a bit avoidant with some of her answers about the dogs, such as how many puppies they have a year, what the owners do with the puppies that don't make it as sled dogs, and what happens to the sled dogs when they retire. If we had received solid answers to some of these questions, we would've felt a little better. We also drove past the living quarters of the dogs and they appeared to be chained up to individual dog houses. I know these dogs aren't "sleep on the couch at home" type of dogs, but it still made me a little curious. Some of the dogs also seemed pretty skinny. I could easily see the ribs and hip bones of some of the dogs. They did seem genuinely excited to run, so I'm hoping that they are well taken care of and I am just being extremely cautious. We also didn't have to wash our hands before handling the puppies after touching all of the other sled dogs. We weren't allowed to set the puppies on the ground because they weren't up to date on their shots (makes sense), but we were able to handle them without washing our hands first? Seemed odd. They also gave no guidance on how to hold the puppies and I saw some other guests handling them in less-than-desired ways. Our puppy was also shaking violently and crying after we held her for a few min. I understand wanting to socialize the puppies, but the younger puppies we interacted with (pictured) seemed like they were too young. read more

I have so much to say about this tour. First, the facility, the little store, bathrooms, refreshments, amazingly cute dog houses...and of course, the zip lines, were top notch. The vibe was perfect. But, 6 stars for PARKER and LEE, our guides on our adventure. The whole thing would have been cool either way, but dang, those two made every little thing so fun. Their dynamic with each other was so genuine and hilarious. But the way the interacted with us was even better - it was a blast from the first minute. And they were efficient, professional, made plus feel safe...everything. The other person that stood out was MATT our driver. He was freakin brilliant and told us the most interesting stuff about the town, geology, ecology, and everything in between. We went on the mushers camp and s'mores excursion and it was fantastic!!! It was perfect for all ages. Our tour guide, Linda, was so friendly and knowledgeable, we loved her!! At mushers camp we were able to hold two different sets of puppies; they were three weeks and one month I believe. They were totally adorable and so soft! The s'mores setting was so beautiful- right next to a river and so yummy! I would absolutely recommend this excursion!! read more

This is by far one of the best excursions we have ever been on. Everything was smooth; from pick up by Ozzy at the pier to his drop off in town at the end of the tour. (We opted to be dropped off in town, but we could have been dropped off back at the pier just as easily.). The pick up van was comfy, and Ozzy did an outstanding job of giving facts about Skagway, and at the same time involving the guests and making it humorous. We had about a 30 minute ride up to the mountain; the first half on our bus, and the second half on a large all-terrain Unimog up the steeper part of the mountain. After arriving at the actual camp we were divided into groups of 4-6 and taken on a 20 minute sled dog ride. (Since it was summer the sleds were similar to wheeled carts and the ground was a dirt path instead of snow.). The dogs were so cute & super-excited to get going. It was a fast, fun, comical, exhilarating adventure. The whole time the musher gave us more facts about mushing and his 16 unique dogs. After our ride we were allowed to take photos with the dogs, and pet the ones without yellow collars, (those were the least friendly/shy ones.) At the final stop we got to meet, pet & hold the musher puppies! They were just cute beyond words! There were multiple litters that were 5 weeks old to a couple of months old. They were cuter than words can describe....some were frisky & some were sleepy; but they were all 100% adorable! After puppy-time we went to the gift shop, where they had cute souvenirs, and also a small snack bar/adult bar. We had one beer to share since we had to finish it before the ride back down the mountain. The ride back down was just as entertaining & we were so happy that we booked this excursion! I cannot say enough good things about this company and the people who work for it. Of all the highlights on our tour (there were many), this was the top top top TOP one. My family came to Alaska on a Disney cruise in August 2018. Alaska Excursions worked with us directly to make sure my daughter (7 years old) could participate. (The cruise line required that she be several years older in order to participate, but the excursion company itself had a lower age minimum. More on that later.) I'm so glad they went out of their way to help us out because it was the most amazing thing we have ever done together as a family. First, the drive out to the zipline site was very pretty. It took about 30 minutes. The area is stunning. It had been pouring rain all day, but the weather cleared up just in time for our adventure. (The zipline folks had mentioned to me that even if the rain had continued throughout Skagway, it often doesn't hit that part of the mountains, so we probably would have been fine either way.) We then took a short ride up the mountain in this supercool open air Jeep thing. It was fun. When we got to the top, we piled on the gear and immediately started ziplining our way around and down the mountain. We flew over gorges and streams, criss-crossed through the forrest, and eventually down the hillside. It was intimidating at first, but the four of us (children included) had no trouble getting into it. The instructors were very helpful and reassuring. Plus, they taught us lots of fun tricks, like how to flip off the platform and how to turn upside down (my son's specialty). As for the age... both of my children are fairly adventurous, so besides a few beginner jitters, they had not problem with any of it. (My daughter was too light at one point and had to be taken across one of the flatter lines in tandem with the instructor.) I felt safe, secure, and cared for. I feel that our cruise line was overly cautious in that respect. The instructors were mostly college students who were spending their summers in Alaska. I hope my son or daughter is this adventurous someday and will come to Alaska for their own summertime ziplining adventure! Otherwise, I highly recommend this amazing excursion. The two young ladies were awesome guides and showed us some great tricks, not to mention they had a great sense of humor. This was a really great excursion! Honestly, I wasn't really looking that forward to it. It was more for my husband, since I have been zip lining over a dozen times. I am just starting to get bored with it. However, the experience here was amazing and I am so happy we went with this company!! It isn't the longest or highest ziplining, for sure, but the crew makes up for it. They encourage you to do flips and tricks and dance while you fly! It really made for a special experience. Went on a horseback tour and got some amazing views of the town of Dyea. The horses were well behaved and Thor was a great guide with a bunch of interesting stories. Our lead guide Amy showed a lot of mastery over the horses and showed a lot of confidence even when the horses got startled when they saw a bear. Russell was a zip line guide who joined our tour and he really made the tour giving us great information about the town of Skagway! Overall recommend the tour to everyone. read more

This excursion was so fun! We booked this very very last minute because all helicoptor tours were cancelled so that meant no dogs with sleds on the glacier. SUPER BUMMED. We figured the next best thing was this excursion. The tour started with a 30-35 mile bus ride to the entrance of the camp. After that, there's an additional 20-25 minute ride on this heavy duty jeep-like thing that drives SO slowly, but safely up the steep mountain. You'll know when you're about to stop when you hear all these dogs barking like crazy. They have over 250 dogs training at this camp. 16 dogs will pull 7 people (6 tourists plus 1 trainer) on a sled thing. These dogs are super strong and the trainer is also very knowledgable of the iditarod sport. You can ask him anything and he'll answer it because he knows the pack very very well. He'll explain why each dog is placed in a specific spot. He'll also stop and take pictures for you with the dogs. The dogs will pull you at about 30-40 mile per hour and it's so fun. Then they take you back down to where the camp and toilets are. You'll sit through a casual presentation of what it's like to complete in the iditarod race. He'll show you the gear that you they have to wear along with a map of the two races that happen in Alaska. It's so interesting because it's so different compared to any other sport. Then we held PUPPIES!!!!!! They were one week old and still sleepy. One pooed on my jacket and it fell on to the ground. Then a Chinese guy covered it in some dirt. I would highly recommend this to anyone. read more

Grizzly Falls Zipling Expedition The Alaska Excursions Grizzly Falls experience is the best in Ziplining fun! We had many other choices in places to zipline in Alaska during our cruise and I can truly say I think we found the best based on talking to people on the ship that went with other ziplining excursions. Since Skagway was the last stop on our cruise before Anchorage/Whittier, we had plenty of time to hear from other people who had ziplined at previous stops during the cruise. We heard nightmare stories from people who had gone with other companies about people getting stuck on the line because they were breaking too soon. We heard about long waits and short zips. NOT US! We had an amazing, crazy, intensely fun time! If you think you can't go ziplining, think again! The two of us were put with another group so there were 6 of us with 2 guides. One of the ladies in the group was 63 years old and there with her husband of similar age. They had an incredible time too. Anyone can zipline, everyone should! It's a blast! When you arrive by shuttle/bus to the main area they have a few log cabin style outbuildings, a row of actual toilets for your use (not porta potties!), a store with merchandise and an area set up with complimentary beverages. There are a few kennel areas with sled dog puppies which are adorable. We then boarded a Unimog (medium truck, rugged terrain vehicle) which took us up the mountain, a short distance to the ziplining area. You are then given a short briefing on safety. After the briefing you are suited up with upper harness, lower harness, tether, gloves and a helmet. There are tons of well-trained guides there to help you get geared up properly and safely. You are then broken up into family/friend groups of around 6. The two of us were paired with a group of 4 and were assigned 2 guides (Bree and JT, you are awesome!). It was then time to Zip! Our guides went through proper procedure and what to expect. Unlike most ziplining outfits who make their participants worry about breaking/slowing down their zip when they reach the far platform - this outfit has their guides doing it. This enables you to just have fun, safely! No waiting around for people who applied the breaks too soon and had to hand over hand crawl to the next platform. I have to say this really sets Grizzly Falls Ziplining apart from its competitors. The guides are fun and funny. We had a ton of laughs and they really made the whole experience very comfortable and enjoyable. At no time in the experience did I feel unsafe or worried. I had a slight fear of the experience which I quickly got over after the first zip. (Bree and JT, you were fantastic but I think I said that already.) The area you're zipping in is an incredibly gorgeous forest with beautiful waterfalls and mossy ground and tall beautiful trees. You spend a solid 2 hours in the trees zipping from platform to platform with little wait time in between. Grizzly Falls Zipling provides a worry free, fun filled experience in gorgeous surroundings. If we went back to Skagway we would do it again! NOTE: There should be another entry for the ziplining under Grizzly Falls Zipling Expedition as that is what it is listed as on the cruiseline website and on Trip Advisor. "Zipline dot Yeah!" Nine of us went ziplining on our first trip to Skagway, our first trip to Alaska via the NCL Sun (whole other story). But what an awesome experience. Super professional, super safe and totally off the charts fun, scary (virgin zipper) and a great time- our zip guides were top shelf awesome - Fin and Sam. Fin is a transplant from Minnesota and a fricking nut- but a safe nut with a great way with newbies, just a good guy- every zip trip is explained and all safety is double checked and then checked again. Each ride is explained and each trip has a different "trick" that all perform. Although dancing like a salmon doesn't seem like a trick, but by Fin's flying example, I've seen people get lots of single dollar bills for less movements. Sam is a self proclaimed Oregonian nerd and super friendly- don't get thrown off by his 13 yr old appearance, he's as much a pro and talker as Fin, and maybe 15...haha. Each of the guys took great care of us with step by step instructions and one of them shows the way down the line first and becomes the "brakeman" for each of the guests as they fly down the line between the beautiful trees. Oh by the way, this is through the forest not above it, but across rivers and waterfalls- stunning. Ages ranged from 9 to 79 and our mom (79) had an insane time and was treated amazingly by both of the guys- my mom's not normal as she needed very little help after her first flight, she's up for anything and handles it beyond well- keep in mind she went white water rafting in Denali park a few days before and actually rowed the raft for a bit.....- I wasn't super comfortable with her salmon dance, but a few months of therapy will fix that. I can't say enough about all of the staff and my sincere Kudos to Fin and Sam- they made the experience well worth it- the fresh glacier water after the rides made for a great drink too. Again, super fun and safe- great group of instructor / guides! Fin and Sam - job well done guys! Thanks to Fin I was called Big Blue for the rest of the trip- Think 6 foot 2 220 in a light blue down jacket and Fin had his material for the day. Absolutely a blast! We did the zip line excursion on a cruise and absolutely loved the experience. The whole operation is well run and the guides seem to genuinely enjoy their job. We had Matt and Lucy and they were awesome! There was an elderly daredevil in our group (she was 85 and the group favorite) and the guides did an awesome job keeping her safe and us moving. The ride out to the site is scenic and the driver was very friendly. The Unimog ride up the hill was a lot of fun and gets your blood flowing in a good way! All of the equipment involved in the excursion was well-maintained and clean. This zip-line adventure was different from the only other time for me. You don't have to worry about slowing yourself down with this course - the guides have a system to do that for you. No holding your gloved hand on a wet wire and hoping you can slow enough. I liked it better. And this adventure allows you to do some tricks that the guides demonstrate. I would absolutely use this company again. I had a great time! read more

My wife and I did the GRIZZLY FALLS ZIPLINE adventure thing. Good: 1. The bus driver was funny and gave us a quick tour of the town of Skagway. 2. Our zipline guides were "Ducky" & "Cassy?" (I think that was her name). Ducky was funny, and told us stories/jokes the whole time. Cassy just let Ducky tell jokes and stories the whole time. Overall, we had a great time with them and they did a good job entertaining the group. 3. There were 10 ziplines and 2 suspension bridges. 4. When you are on the suspension bridges, be sure to jump up and down so the whole bridge shakes. If you can get someone to fall down, even better. Don't worry, you are attached to a harness. read more

My son and I did the Grizzly Falls Zip line in Skagway, Alaska first week in July . First, Ozzy gave us a whole new insight to Skagway on the ride out to the zip line excursion spot. Skagway was the smallest of the ports with less to do than the others, and because of all the information Ozzy shared about the history of the town, the historical buildings and landmarks in Skagway, and the current happenings as well, it turned out to be one of my favorite port stops! He made a small town pop off the map! Thanks Ozzy, we really enjoyed all the info you shared with us. The Zip Line adventure was amazing. Winding the mountain in the truck was so fun to see how high we were among the trees, very cool! When we got up to our destination we were met by two young ladies, friendly and fun! They did a great job gearing us up, I felt super safe with them and they checked our equipment and all of our latches on our gear every time we set off on a new line! They made it a lot of fun and doing the tricks on the line popped it up a notch. I am not a fan of heights, at least I wasn't until this zip line excursion, but the girls were a lot of fun, made us feel safe, and if we do Alaska again, we'll be back!! Thank you!! read more

Very reasonably priced. Book this off the cruise ship for added value. We did the dog sledding on gravel in a converted buggy of some sort. A friendly driver picked us up from town in downtown Skagway (about 1 block by 1 block!) and drove us to another crazy looking vehicle that was loud and slow. There were some crazy steep tracks but it felt totally safe. Once arriving at the camp, there are "huskies" everywhere from puppy to lean running machines. This excursion was the highlight for my wife. She would have been happy just to play with the pups! Our musher was very knowledgeable (in fact all the team we were in contact with) and friendly. I had no idea you could be whizzed around so quickly round the track by so few dogs (15; as 1 was big and didn't play well with others!) He stopped to take pictures for us and had to contend with some unruly dogs! It was really so much fun that we didn't want to leave. The driver of our 4x4 truck contraption had adopted a puppy which he let my wife hold on the way back down. The key to a happy life is a happy wife!! read more

We did the glacier canoe tour and it was awe inspiring, magical and I give it a ten out of ten. Zack and Captain Steve brought us over on the ferry, supplying us with info on the area. Then Scott and Max geared us up and we canoe'd to the glacier. Scott was informative and knowledgable and made sure everyone was comfortable, answering questions & providing info on the glacier, birds and plants. On the ferry ride back we stopped at a waterfall for pics and saw a colony of sea lions. Great guides, great experience. These people love what they do and it shows. read more
