We did the Exclusive Photography tour in Haines with Nicholas. We were picked up at our RV park in Skagway and brought to the ferry terminal for the trip to Haines. While the tour could accommodate up to 10, we had the good luck to be the only two! This allowed us flexibility to see many areas of Haines we might otherwise not get to. Nicholas was a fantastic guide. He started by asking questions about what we might like to photograph and see. I always learn something new and this time was no exception. I took well over 100 photos and the time flew by; before we knew it, we were headed back to the ferry. The only hitch was the return to our RV park. We were given vouchers for the city bus but it only took us left than halfway back. Not a problem, it just would have been nice to know (we would have walked the entire way and not waited 15 minutes for the bus) read more

Our large family did the Yukon suspension bridge tour with Joe. He was great! Very insightful, friendly and entertaining. We accidentally left a back back on the bus and quickly and easily got it back later in the day. Would definitely recommend him and the tour company. read more

She was amazingly knowledgeable and passionate about the area and even went off "scripted agenda" when she thought there was something we would be interested in seeing. Did the Chilkoot Wildlife Tour on the outskirts of Haines. Karla was an excellent tour guide for our group of 12. She was well versed in the area and shared a lot of that knowledge. A beautiful raft trip down the Chilkoot River was absolutely beautiful and educational. NOT a thriller white water raft race, but better - a much more manageable raft ride navigating the Chilkoot's glacier-melt water ways. Highest recommendation! SAVE YOUR MONEY!!! We did the Nature & Wildlife Photography Experience through Princess cruise line. The description of the tour was nothing like the actual tour. The tour took us to a few places where we stopped and look at beaches that seem to be the party location on the weekends with a burned out fire pit. We did see a bald eagle flying over into the trees. We stopped, and only time he got his spotting scope was to look at two swans. They were about 25 to 30 feet off the road in a pond. Saw briefly another bald eagle in a tree but he drove past and we had to walk back. It flew away before we got there. Granted he said there are no bears in late June and early July. Not aware of any state park we visited. I did learn that the tour operators are not allowed to bathe every day and can only take a bath every so often due to water supply. I've been I've been many excursions and this by far was the biggest joke of spending $180 of my hardhard-earned money. SAVE YOU MONEY!! read more

We went on the wildlife tour. It was absolutely incredible! The guide picked us up from the ferry on a minibus. She drove us around and gave us information about the native wildlife. I appreciated that she took the time to give us a bear safety talk too. We saw bald eagles, mama bear and cubs, spawning salmon, and mountain goats. Lunch was included. We got local made sandwiches, with fruit, a cookie, and water. The only reason I gave four stars instead of five is because I knew some of the information the guide provided was incorrect. For one, she talked about gill nets and how they work. Then she said California ban them because Californians felt gill nets were inhumane. In reality, Californian waters have more than just the few species of fish that Haines has; gill net use in California resulted in a substantial amount of bycatch. Limiting the use of gill nets and using technology to keep bycatch away from the gill nets has helped reduce gill net bycatch in California. As far as I can tell, the guide's information about local species was accurate. It's unfortunate that she was putting out misinformation too. read more

I've had 2 amazing experiences with Rainbow Glacier Adventures. The first was rafting this summer and just last weekend I went back to Haines for the Eagles who come to the Eagle Preserve because the geography of the land keeps the river flowing and the salmon swimming. Joe wrote the beautiful photography book "where eagles gather" and he taught me how to actually use my digital camera! Ten minutes after we met he was teaching me what I needed to know! And, since he's a fabulous photographer, he taught me about composition and showed me the difference between a mediocre shot and a great shot - a few inches one way or another makes all the difference. If that's not enough his gut about where to go to see and photograph eagles led us to exactly where we saw beautiful eagles of all ages. I stayed in his cabin on a lake facing north. I woke up all through the night hoping to see Northern Lights...but they didn't display the night I was there. Someone else will get that thrill. I can't say enough about how much I enjoyed both experiences with this wonderful company and Joe. If you have the pleasure of visiting Haines, call him, you will be very happy. read more

We took the Segway Chilkoot Lake Wildlife Viewing Tour to Haines- it was a fiasco meeting on the pier in regards to the time and where to meet - once that got squared away we boarded a ferry for Haines - when we arrived we meet Bruce our guide - a resident of Haines for 40 years - her was very knowledgeable- the van was comfortable with the 14 people in the tour - our trip was to drive down what appeared to be the Main road in the town which we stopped at two turn ours on the road - Bruce set up a spotting scope and we saw an eagles nest - we then drove to a state park - to the lake which was beautiful - we had a good lunch which was provide by a local restaurant of a turkey sandwich- apple- cookie and water-we ate at picnic tables at the park- we took a very short walk in the forest- back in the van and back to the ferry - it was a disappointment for the money. read more

Outstanding . Byrne was our driver and was so much fun the way he teased us. Dave was our river guide from North Carolina. What an outstanding experience and I felt so safe with him. Dave has wilderness first aid training, carried a radio and the guide on the float raft behind us had a satellite phone so they were well prepared to handle emergencies. When I look back on the many excursions I have taken this one will be in the top 10. The way Dave talked about the river and was able to find the eagles was amazing and magical. He conveyed his love of nature and that to him this was more than a job. Someday, I want to come back in November when thousands of eagles converge on the Chiloot River & have Dave as my guide. he is so conscientious and kind. read more

Our experience with this company was top notch. Everyone was very friendly and professional. They all made you feel like family. The ferry ride to Haines was extraordinarily beautiful. The captain of the ferry was very knowledgeable in the history and was very nice. Dena, from the company, was waiting for us at the dock. Short walk to the office and had us change into boots and in the van in a matter of minutes. Her tour on the way to our destination was very interesting. Really enjoyed it. A few miles out, one of the guides, Justin, joined us on the van. He was very friendly and explained everything about the trip that we needed to know (safety protocol) He was very experienced and fun. When we arrived at the drop off, we all got to meet the owner of the company, Joe. He is very warm and hospitable. Justin and Joe went over safety protocol and then we were split into 2 groups. We liked the feel of smaller groups. It made it all very intimate. Our guide was Justin. Overall he was fantastic. A lot of fun, very experienced, treated us with respect and you could tell he very much enjoyed what he was doing. After we got on land, there was a delicious lunch waiting for us in the van. My husband and I were very impressed with the quality and professionalism. They are a very small business and hope that word of mouth from past clients, will help them grow. We were the last kayakers of the 2014 cruise season (September), according to Robert Chadwell, who met us at the dock in Haines and drove my wife and me, along with 2 of his pleasant friends to the Chilkoot Lake. The trip was flawless... the Fast Ferry from Skagway was beautiful and calm! He met us on arrival in Haines, instructed us and guided us on the kayak trip, and had us on the fast ferry about 20 minutes before the 1 pm (and final) departure. Robert is heartfelt and seems to be genuinely appreciative of tourists' patronage and seems to take nothing for granted. He even packed us a lunch and water. On the way to the lake, we stopped for a bear crossing the road, and then parked by the river to view/photograph bald eagles. The eagles seemed to be everywhere. Robert handled the kayaks by himself, even loading them from the lake onto the racks. We found him to be courteous, respectful, safe, knowledgeable and kind. The weather was unbelievable ... a little chilly at first, then warmed up, but perfectly clear, and gorgeous on all counts. Almost no wind - until we were packing up, and a gale blew in! We got some great photos of the trip. His buddy, Tom Ganner, a pro photographer, even took pictures of me and my wife kayaking and made them available to us online.
