After 2 days, Spilotras clearly breached our contract by NOT performing in accordance to "spackling, sanding, priming...". They just wanted to slap paint on as quickly as possible without any prep work, then stopped the work altogether when we requested corrections. In an effort to salvage the project, we asked for a different crew, but they refused and demanded another $7,750! They had no intention to work with us to resolve the issues because they had our money. Adding more damage to us when we requested a refund, they claimed expenses of over $5,000 for 2 days of poor quality work. We asked for detailed accounting multiple times but were ignored because they likely cannot document them. If the total project was $15,500 for 2 weeks, how can the expenses be over $5,000 for 2 days? They realized these numbers were ridiculous, so they came back with another refund offer of $4,200 out of the $7,750 paid, which means they still want to keep $3,550 for 2 days ($1,750 per day!) of horrible work, from which we received no value but problems that we are paying another contractor to correct. We also incurred substantial expenses resulting from moving-in delays. Spilotras appears to feel that since they got our $7,750, they can be arrogant and not accept any responsibility for their failures. Instead, they chose to blame the customer and to extract profit from their failed performance.

This started with cleaning all roof gutters and ensuring that all leaders and downspouts were not clogged by thoroughly flushing them. They then applied their chemical agent via spray method to kill any and all mold, mildew, algae and moss that was present on the cedar shingles. After a short period of time they used a wide spray power washing to rinse and flush all of the dead remains of that organic growth, as well as any tree sap from the roof. They also performed spot cleaning of selected areas of our stucco facades, masonry chimney and flagstone terrace where stubborn dirt had collected on the surface. They completed their work to my complete satisfaction in one day and cleaned up after themselves. All in all, once again, I can and do highly recommend TruCLEAN Wash for this type of roof cleaning, for cedar shingles, as well as slate and/or terra cotta roof tiles that become stained from mildew, mold, moss, sap and other tree droppings, as well as general air pollution. After doing some research, I knew I wanted to use BJ Moore Regal Select paint which was consistently ranked as the best quality interior paint and we had our colors & finishes already selected. I reached out to 5 different painters to learn about their services, get estimates and I scheduled in-person walkthroughs for my top 2 choices. The walkthrough meeting and followup Q&A really sold me on Century Painting, we hired them and were not disappointed. Jorge (the owner) was responsive, very professional, timely and offered helpful advice about care / maintenance. I requested an initial estimate and covered the majority of questions thru Yelp, shared photos and a floor plan over text, and covered followup questions with Jorge over text and a brief walkthrough meeting I requested so I could get better acquainted with them and be completely transparent about the project scope for our specific space so there wouldn't be any surprises down the road (we have high ceilings and structural beams that might be tricky). Jorge was quick to meet and he provided a firm estimate in writing to me over email. Jorge provided a very competitive quote for the job and he required no advance deposit (most required 10-50% down). He also accepted credit card payment as an option, with full payment expected only when they completed the project (note: they were the only painter of the 5 that accepted credit cards). Jorge and Carlos showed up on time every morning, was able to provide a COI to meet my bldg's requirements, and they came ready to work with all the necessary paint and supplies. They took good care to move / cover our furniture and hardwood floors so they were protected and made sure to return everything clean and put back in place. Jorge encouraged us to identify any holes we may need patched or painting misses that needed correction - tbh, most of these things were proactively detected by them first. They really paid meticulous attention to ensure the quality of their work - and invited us to call them if we had any issues after the project (since we have furniture being delivered following the project). We fortunately had a little paint leftover so we're keeping it just in case we scuff any of the new paint in the process. They were done with the project in 2 days (others quoted me for 3-5 days with 2-4 painters). They were truly a pleasure to work with. We chose 2 dark colors and 1 light color - everything got at least 2 coats of paint but the dark colors required at least 4 coats. It came out beautifully (see pictures). We hired them to install tiles in our home, and it turned into a months-long nightmare. They botched the job so badly the first time that everything had to be ripped out and redone. While they came back to do it again, the problems reappeared immediately -- grout is already coming out, and tiles are cracking. Clearly, they don't know how to do proper tile work. They also painted our kitchen cabinets, and now multiple cabinet doors won't even close properly. They had to come back several times to fix issues, and every visit created more problems -- more dust, more scratches to the walls (which they had just painted), and more frustration. We spent thousands out of pocket replacing the tiles ourselves and months cleaning up their mess, chasing them for fixes, and trying to get basic workmanship -- which never came. Avoid this company at all costs. They are unprofessional, careless, and simply not qualified for this kind of work.
