There are a lot of bad reviews of this place on Yelp. A LOT. And I can see why people would be upset: the only people who come here are sick or otherwise need medical care. They are likely tired, sore, bleeding, or suffering from other physical issues. They are then told to fill out three forms (who loves medical paperwork?) and then sit in a chair until called. The people at the reception desk can appear unfriendly. There is a fee ($25) involved too. This ain't a day at the beach. I have been here before right when they open during cold season and had to wait in line, only to finally be told that since I had only been sick for 10 days they wouldn't give me antibiotics but I could come back after 14 days. That sucks, and I probably would have left a 1-star review after that experience if I had remembered to. Anyway, I came back recently after work and had a much different experience. Yes, I still had three forms to fill out, and yes I still had to wait in a chair to be called. But they confirmed that they didn't bill additionally for "after hours" visits anymore. I only had to sit about 20 minutes until I saw someone (I had brought magazines to read so I was prepared). And the medical person was friendly and offered several different options to deal with my issue. I had several pleasant interactions with the people at the desk. I can imagine how bored they must get having to repeat the same instructions dozens of times each day. It can come across as unprofessional or apathetic. But I took the time to be friendly to them, and they returned the gesture. They also said mornings are much busier than evenings (though in an emergency... you go when you have to go). I've seen both ends of the spectrum but my recent experience was great and I learned a few tips for the future (be kind, go in the evening, bring something to read, etc.). Hopefully I won't have to be back, but if I do I will be prepared. read more

Tried to get into a Dermatologist prior to this but was told they were booking into June. That's the only reason I went there. NP Susaye Smith prescribed a topical Rx when I asked for oral. What she prescribed was not even covered by my insurance. When I called the office to speak to her she would not let me get a word in edgewise and rudely continued with raising her voice, admonishing me even though I asked her if I could please speak. Nope-- she just kept on going. Receptionist very curt & abrupt answering the phone also, kept putting me on hold & also kept talking over me. What has happened to healthcare for the elderly in this country? Encountering this type of treatment is like a slap in the face! Paid co-pay of $40.00 for nothing! I'm kind of surprised at all the negative reviews. This is my family's go to urgent care. It's close and so far we have not had any issues at all. The front desk has always been pleasant and the Drs although I do believe they don't take a ton of time with you, then again they figure out what's wrong and get you moving. I have never had anything other than good care here. In fact I feel awful and I'm headed there as soon as they open. read more

Avoid at all costs. I was "treated" here - meaning they took my vitals after I waited almost an hour when I was there for choking - and then was told that they could not treat me as they didn't have the equipment necessary to do an exam or treatment and sent me to the Emergency Room. The front desk should have known their capabilities and that this was not within scope of their services able to provide and sent me immediately to the Emergency Room. The reason I went there is that it is located 3 minutes from my home instead of 20 mins to the Emergency Room. NOt only was I charged a co-pay, I am being charged an additional $67 for "after hours" charge since I went in after 6pm. This charge was never disclosed to me as I have always only had a $25 co-pay. I tried for months to reach a decision maker as they do not empower the employees actually answering calls to make any decisions. The one employee I would reach kept forwarding emails to have someone reach out to me and it never happened. The last bill I received was sending me to collections despite not hearing back from billing. I phoned again and the woman said she would reach out again. She called me back today saying that they had reviewed the charge and I would have to pay this fee (without giving me the chance to speak with anyone that actually makes the decisions). Horrible customer service and it doesn't seem like the clinics are equipped to respond to basic medical issues. read more

Absolutely unacceptable!! The lady's at the front desk are so unprofessional and rude. They should both be let go. I was refused medical treatment due to an issue they created because they billed my secondary instead of my primary on a previous visit. Don't understand how that's my fault but I was refused medical treatment with TWO insurances and the issue being their own. Also I tried calling and leaving messages on multiple occasions with no phone call back. I had to call my insurance directly to handle the issue because the lady's at the front desk are too incompetent to do their jobs correctly. Oh and don't forget there's never a supervisor available because they make up their own hours so once they're gone it's whatever the untrained front desk workers say. read more

I live near this urgent care. I went there because I had nausea and dry heaves for a few days. I was seen by a large male PA who took my vitals and then tried to push a Covid test on me. I had no Covid symptoms, but he argued that sometimes Covid first presents itself with stomach symptoms (???). I said he would take a test only if they use the small swabs. He argued that my insurance would only cover the long swabs. But they used the small swabs on me last winter when I actually had Covid! I refused the test. He said that he could not diagnose my nausea issues because they do not have a lab there and could not take x-rays. But I have had x-rays taken there before. He said that my only option would be to go to the Emergency Room. For nausea. He then outrageously offered to call an ambulance to take me to the ER. For nausea. I refused that. They made me sign a statement acknowledging that refusal to go to the ER...for nausea...could result in death. They did waive my co-pay, but I just noticed that they billed my insurance company for $271. He did absolutely nothing for me. He didn't even suggest anything I could take for the nausea! I called my doctor's office the next day and his PA told me that there was a nasty viral stomach bug circulating that causes nausea and dry heaves and lasts 5 to 7 days. She told me to hang in there and it would pass. She also said that she had heard a lot of complaints about this urgent care always trying to send people to the ER unnecessarily. This place needs to be investigated. They charge when providing no care and attempt to take unnecessary tests. I would never go to this place again. read more

"Not very impressed. First visit to Rotterdam location. Had pressure in my ear. Reception staff were not particularly welcoming and were mostly concerned that I know that they didn't bill insurance and I had to pay upfront. In the end, I called my insurance the next week and insurance said they do bill insurance. I ended up paying $147 for what should have been a $20 or $30 copay. I see today that my insurance company has reimbursed them, so I will probably get a credit but I can't spend a credit in the grocery store. Turns out I had a middle ear infection which should have been an in and out deal. For some reason, they take your blood pressure. Mine was a little higher than normal and they made a big deal out of it. They prescribed amoxicillin which cleared it up in a week. If I have problems again, I will try another urgent care place or at least another location." read more

Quick and $$$ referral Hopefully a warning to others to consider other options - ask up front about copay and other costs. Hoped for shorter wait than St Peter's Urgent Care which can be hours. Short wait - X-ray and referral to Bone and Joint, wrapped hand, charged $672.50. Paid $273 to wrap daughter's hand to be removed half hour later. Somehow typical urgent care copay (25-50) ended up costing 341.71. read more

I got there at 9:02. Two minutes after they opened. Oh no! There were at least 7 people ahead of me. Oh man it's gonna take forever. Nope. I was mistaken. They checked me in, I filled out some paperwork. Within ten minutes I was seen by a nurse and had vitals taken. Go to another room. Waited for a whole five minutes! The doctor was so nice and very thorough. I was out of there within 45 minutes and off to work. The place is super clean too! I'm feeling better already! read more

Awful. I went there and was told that to be seen i would have to pay the entire amount out of pocket. I have active insurance that they participate with! They were literally looking at my active insurance but because I have an HSA in addition to my normal insurance coverage, they said they wanted me to pay the entire amount out of pocket, and later they would submit the claim to my insurance, and if i overpaid i could call to get a reimbursement for the difference. What?! When I said I was leaving the receptionist shrugged her shoulders and said "ok!" Go elsewhere. I went to St Peter's UC in Patroon Creek and was seen within 10 minutes and the receptionist thought I was crazy when I asked if I would have to pay up front since I have insurance. read more

I have had a painful respiratory infection since last Thursday (FYI, today is Monday). Yesterday things became so bad that my wife urged me to go to urgent care. After I looked at all the reviews out there for seemingly all of them it seemed 45% have 5 stars and 45% gave 1 star. So I told my wife I'd rather wait to see my doctor today. As usual, I should have taken her advice! I was seen by my doctor's office via television and was sadly stunned at what a waste of time that was. What she was saying seemed to be way, way off. My wife and I were stunned. I won't get into that, but I will when I recite Community Cares physicians in North Greenbush. So, I decided to go to the Albany Med EmUrgent care on Wolf Road in Hannaford plaza. I called their general number to double check co-pays because I recently have Medicare coverage. That person was pleasant, funny and quite helpful. The EmUrgent care facility is a very short distance from my house. I drove over, walked in without an appointment, and was seen in 10-15 minutes. The two women at the front desk were both friendly and helpful. Really good. Next I saw a man in his 30's who didn't have much in the way of personality or bedside manner, but otherwise he was ok. Next I met with Alexis Martin. SHE was fantastic. She clearly was listening. I told her that I had a COVID CPR test last Friday, was taking at home tests every day since this started, and all were negative - thankfully. She was going to check me for an instant bacterial infection. I asked if she could also have the lab testing done just so I could be sure to rule it in or out. She said that made sense and then asked if I'd like another COVID lab test and I felt that was smart to do. After she came back she said my strep test was negative but that could change with the lab sample results. But, she did think that based on my symptoms and what she was seeing it looked like I probably had a secondary bacterial infection. So, she ordered that and another Med to address my cough so I could get better sleep through. She left for a moment and came back to say the two scripts cere called into the Hannaford pharmacy next door (which is also my pharmacy, and I gave them a five star review soon after I dumped CVS, also next door). Before she said goodbye she said something I've never been asked before but that I wish ALL doctors would ask: "Do you have any questions, AND --- " IS THERE ANYTHING WE'VE DISCUSSED THAT YOU DIDN'T UNDERSTAND OR NEED MORE INFO FOR". It always bugs me that most medical people fail to understand they are speaking Med-jargon, talk too fast, and usually fail to understand their patient isn't functioning at anything close to 100%. So over to Hannaford I went. I thought I'd have to wait but the order was already set - AND - Hannaford pharma found an $8 off coupon for one of the meds. I really feel I was truly "cared for" at Albany Med EmUrgent Care. If I could switch to have them be my primary, I'd do it in a flash. read more

I am not impressed with the urgent care on Wolf Road in Colonie New York. The staff need to be retrained and could care less if you need immediate healthcare that is not appropriate to visit the hospital but cannot wait to see your doctor after hours. My experience was one of the front desk had to keep checking on my insurance which I did have, but because my particular insurance was after hours and was not available, they refused care. They stated, "Well your only other option is to go to the hospital, which would've cost over $500 instead of a $40 co-pay. I believe Albany medical center needs to reevaluate this particular urgent visit and to reassess how to handle patients with insurance but cannot reach the insurance carrier in off hours. Given my experience, I would rather travel a few more miles to another urgent visit such as Saint peters partnership where their patients are more important than their policies. read more

I went to the urgent care on Wolf Road in Colonie New York because of fever for three days. The front desk staff was cold and indifferent but the waiting time was not too bad. (I realized later why not many people go there) . There I was told all AlbanyMed urgent care clinics do not have any facility for blood work,/urine test/X ray, etc. but they call themselves emergency/urgent care. We saw the PA-C Bridget Desmarais for literally 7 or 8 minutes. Obviously she tried to rush through and be done with me. I told her I had blood infection 2 years ago and was concerned this time. She did not seem to be interested in listening. She ended our conversation with her prescription --- Azithromcin and a nasal spray for congestion. When she came back and handed me the prescription, the nasal spray was not on and there was no explanation, totally forgotten. She then told me they had sent the prescription to a CVS which is found far away from where I live. There are at least 2 closer to me. What is the search standard for which CVS? Or any CVS? Why not a CVS in Alaska? The most ridiculous thing is there is CVS right across from this place in the same plaza. How difficult is it to find that one so it is convenience for the patients? I like to give this place a "no star at all" review if I could. But one thing I know for sure is I will never go there, even all AlbanyMed affiliated urgent cares, who do not actually care about their patients. read more
