My husband and I have never been to Europe and we wanted a good first experience. I had mixed feelings for both the hotel and the restaurant, so I'll split the review into two parts. Hotel rating: 2 stars The hotel itself is definitely dated--I'm talking like it has not been renovated since it was built (from my perspective, probably around the 70's). We've both stayed at pretty dingy hotels and at ritzy 5-star hotels around the world, so we tried to give this a fair rating. We told the receptionist Francesca (who we really liked) that it was our honeymoon, and we still got a hotel room that faced the mountains. The inside of the room had old flooring, old furniture, and our queen bed was just two twin beds pushed together (it also wasn't very comfortable to sleep on). The bathroom was super small and had very little amenities (two small soap bars, one-time use shampoo packets, and very old towels that had seams coming undone). We did have French doors that opened to a nice balcony, but then we found a hornet nest on the side of the roof. The walls were paper thin, so we heard every single conversation and footstep. There's also a huge church bell that rings every 15 minutes, which can be heard nice and loud across the town--say goodbye to sleep! There was an A/C unit in the room, but ours happened to be very loud. Additionally, wifi is only in the lobby. The stairways smelled a bit of mold, and the rest of the hotel shared areas seemed like the inside of someone's home. The only redeeming factor about the hotel was the service. Everyone from the receptionist to the housekeeper was all so wonderful and helpful. Oh, they have free parking. Restaurant rating: 4 stars The breakfast dining area was amazing! The food was delicious, so I'd highly recommend getting the room and board package if possible. We sat under a beautiful wisteria tree vine and enjoyed the views very much. We enjoyed fresh pastries (aside from the bread rolls), salami, cheese, cereal, yogurt, coffee, tea, and juice. They would change out the egg dish each day, so there was variety. Lunch at the bar was phenomenal! I'd highly recommend getting the pizza or homemade pasta. Best Italian food I've had in a long time! The bar overlooked the ocean and the pool. Dinner was good. They changed out their prix fix meal each night, and you can check the menu at the front desk, roughly 25 euros a person. We opted to eat a la cart so we ate veal, salad, and homemade pasta--all were fantastic.

However, both venues offer some of the best views of the coast that you'll see on your trek across the south of Italy. Make sure you take advantage of sitting out on their terrace. Imagine the most scenic and picturesque views of the mountain-side and the seemingly endless blue ocean. All of this with the crisp sea air breeze gently brushing by. All that said, I might just come back here for the view alone! The highlight is definitely the enchanting view and you should come here first for that but the food is a very close second! We ordered the mixed seafood spaghetti (18 euros) and it was more than advertised. You'll get a very large plate of spaghetti noodles topped with fresh prawns, lobster, shellfish and more. Sprinkle it with the lemon and mix it in the light broth and you'll be in seafood heaven! We also had the seafood salad (13 euros) which was light, refreshing, and crisp to bite. Plus it had healthy amounts of seafood as well including calamari. Mineral water was 2.50 euros. There is also a cover charge of 2.50 per person included in the bill. What really surprised me was the price of the meal. Easily one of the most reasonable deals for all the seafood you get. I had expected to fork over plenty of euros but in the end it was cheaper than seafood restaurants we had in Sorrento or elsewhere. Plus you get that amazing view. You can tell the tourists love Albergo Garden and many just lounge away soaking up the view. I had to take off one star just because the service was very slow and not as attentive and a bit brusque. We had to take a windy road up the hill to get there. All the staff spoke English and we sat in the room surrounding by windows and we could see the gorgeous scenery around us. My husband got the white fish dish with potatoes (I forgot the name of it) and I ordered the handmade pasta with tomato sauce. The fish was cooked perfectly. I have never had this kind of hand made pasta before and it was thicker. Wow, that was delicious. The thing that stood out the most was the LEMONS! They give you lemons with your water... but the lemons from Southern Italy are huge and so sweet. You could just eat the lemons by themselves as if they were oranges. Half of the people on the trip ordered the trip with lunch included. They made a MISTAKE. The couple that I met on the tour had the inclusive lunch an did not enjoy their vinegar drenched salad, and didn't finish more than half their entree. For people who didn't book the lunch it was a $16 lunch: water, wine, garlic bread, then "all you can eat pasta," fish or meat. I got the pasta, which was alright but was never offered another serving, so I can only assume "all you can eat" has a different meaning to them. My brother got the meat, which consisted of 3 slices of pork with brown gravy and a serving of French fries, it looked more like a US TV dinner. Finally I'd like comment as to how rude their entire staff was.
