The game had just started when we arrived. It was a playoff game, so it was packed. We got tickets at the gate for $15 each for left field, the only option available. There isn't a great way to get around the stadium. We walked in front of everyone in the stands and happened to run into Rawhide, their mascot! After a quick selfie, we found ourselves in the grass/dirt to get to our seats. I regretted my flat sandals. We sat in the bleachers out in left field. We could see and hear everything. The game was low scoring but entertaining. The announcer had events between innings for the kids etc and plenty of fun songs and sound effects. Players were hitting foul balls into the stands and parking lot. No one got hurt but I bet some cars were dented. They had chosen the designated beer hitter - a player on the opposite team. When he was up to bat, if he struck out, beers were half off for the rest of the inning! It happened at least twice. Food looked pretty good. They had a local restaurant set up under an easy up, cooking. It was called Jacob's and they have a restaurant one mile south of the stadium (Jacob's Restaurant). We left after the kids raced the players through the field which was about the 7/8th inning. I think the stompers lost as they were trailing for awhile. Bathrooms were in an elevated trailer, clean, air conditioned, separate men/women. I can see why the locals enjoy the games. It was fun. I just wish they had a better sidewalk around the field. And Rawhide's costume needs a good cleaning. Poor guy smells like several summers. Overall great value and a good time.

Brilliant views, awesome members, fun, chill zone. Expensive to join ... NO. Glamorous and opulent? NO. Its well designed, clean, spacious, great members, and a fun place to hang. And NO ... there is no shooting range here as it is in the city limits of San Rafael. But with a pier that goes a few hundred yards into the bay, it's hard to beat for fishing or just a picnic over the bay. The website says about its history: Founded in 1926, the Marin Rod and Gun Club is one of California's premier outdoor sporting clubs. The club was formed for the purposes of conservation, preservation and propagation of fish and game in Marin County, the State of California and the United States. We have grown from our original membership of 35 to over 1200 active members. We are still tops for conservation. The single home developments are new while the other buildings are from renovated base structures. They still have some original buildings boarded up and awaiting that special renovation touch of love. The base was designed with an eclectic Spanish design theme. The base was opened in 1935 and was decommissioned in 1974. The tarmac and air runways was built over wetlands that neighbor San Pablo Bay. The wetlands are back, the Hamilton Field Bay walking trail is built between the wetlands and the community. Public access to the trail is in the back parking lot of the Landing Office Complex. The Landing Office Complex are hangars have been converted to private high tech office buildings. The facade of the hangars were kept. One of the air towers was kept and renovated as well. It serves as a glass architectural piece to the building. There is no public access. But viewable from the outside. Hamilton Field History Museum is located in the prior base fire station. The museum is free but has limited hours. The Marin Museum of Contemporary Art (MMOCA) is located in the prior base headquarter 500 building. There is an admission fee. The Community Center is also located in the base headquarters building next to the MMOCA. If you are in the area, visiting the museums or exploring the wetland trail may interest you.

It doesn't really look like it's maintained (as of May 2024) but the junkyard look actually gives it some character, and it has a sort of messy organization to it. And of course the oversized picnic table off toward the side near the highway can pique the curiosity of those driving by. The museum is actually the old base fire station! When you first walk in, they turn on a video that explains the history of the field. This video is very informative, but it's in the main lobby, so if their other patrons come it's difficult to hear. The main display is downstairs, which is accessible via wheelchair for handicapped patrons. The downstairs exhibits are a giant treasure trove of information explaining more about this wonderful Airfield. Also, the volunteers who work here are incredibly friendly and helpful when suggesting things to do on to watch. In fact, one of the docents actually grew up here! For researchers who want to study more about the history of the air base, there is a very nice library downstairs, which has all kinds of historical documents and books. They have all kinds of memorabilia, such as hats, shirts, post cards, videos, books Etc. I liked the polo shirts but I did not like the color.

This is a great location in the Town of Fairfax to provide a meeting space. Street parking can be tricky but the setting is under the big pine trees, next to the children's playground and river bed. On warmer summer days, the smell of pine wafts through the building. I believe the Town Council meeting are held here as well.
